Missouri State University won eight awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VI during the annual conference in St. Louis.

Dr. James Parsons, professor of music history, documents the true story of two writers, Hanns Eisler and Theodor Adorno, in his article "TheExile's Intellectual Mission: Adorno and Eisler's 'Composing for the Films.'" The article was published in the winter 2009 issue of "Telos."

Musical compositions bring Prescott recognition

Dr. John Prescott, professor of music theory and composition, was selected as an award recipient by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers in the concert music division. Recipients are selected based upon the unique value of each writer's catalog of original compositions, as well as recent performances.

Each semester, students at Missouri State University who attain academic excellence are named to the dean’s list. For undergraduate students, criteria include enrollment in at least 6 credit hours during the summer semester and at least a 3.50 grade point average (on a 4.00 scale).

Professor finds funding to produce ‘Seven Deadly Sins’

Darryl Clark, assistanat professor of dance, received a grant from the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music to produce "The Seven Deadly Sins." The award is in the amount of $1,000.

Professor looks for homes for Indiana bats

Dr. Lynn Robbins, professor of biology, received a $4,500 grant for his project entitled “Determination of Habitat Suitability for Indiana Bats.” The funding is provided by the Sho-Me Power Electric Cooperative.

Education grant to improve hearing services to newborns

Missouri State University received a $148,937 grant from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for the “Universal Newborn Hearing Screening-Reducing Lost to Follow-Up” project. This project will provide hearing screening services, follow-up services and education for families of newborns who do not pass a hearing screening at birth or that are diagnosed with hearing loss shortly after birth.

Free income tax service to benefit local low income, non-native English speakers, seniors

Dr. Sandra Byrd, Missouri State University professor of accounting and director of the Low Income Tax Clinic, received a $16,680 grant from the Community Partnership of the Ozarks for the Missouri State Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Across the Life Span (ATLS) program. The grant will allow Missouri State University to provide additional sites to assist low income, English as a second language and seniors with free tax preparation and e-filing.

Professor receives renewal for math academies
