Art auction proceeds donated to Joplin tornado relief

A silent auction, “Art and Design for Joplin” was held in December to benefit Joplin tornado relief, which featured 24 works of art donated by nine faculty from the Missouri State University department of art and design. Hosted by Paw Prints Bookstore and co-sponsored by the English Society, the event raised $1,129, which was donated to the Southern Missouri Region of the American Red Cross.

Patrick Grayshaw, assistant director for volunteer programs in the office of student engagement at Missouri State University, recently had a book review published on the website of the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs (NCLP).

Graduate student awarded wildlife conservation fellowship continuation

Ashley Whaley, graduate student in the biology department at Missouri State University, was awarded a $11,200 fellowship continuation by the Rob and Bessie Welder Wildlife Foundation.

Funding continued for Springfield water quality research

Dr. Robert Pavlowsky, professor of geography and director of the Ozarks Environmental and Water Resources Institute (OEWRI) at Missouri State University, was awarded $28,033 for continuation of the “Springfield MS4/TMDL Monitoring Project” by the Storm Water Services Division of the Springfield Public Works Department.

Professor co-edits, contributes chapter to new book on Taiwan

Dr. Dennis Hickey, professor of political science and director of the global studies graduate program, just published "New Thinking About the Taiwan Issue: Theoretical Insights Into its Origins, Dynamics and Prospects." He co-edited the book and contributed the lead chapter along with Jean-Marc Blanchard.

Technology, construction management faculty present laser scanning research

Dr. Kerry Slattery, assistant professor of technology and construction management, presented "Evaluation of 3D Laser Scanning for Construction Applications" in the State Department of Transportation's High-Value Research Projects poster session at the 91st Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 23. The research was funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation through the Illinois Center for Transportation. The research project, completed with co-investigator Dr. Dianne Slattery, associate professor of technology and construction management, was one of only 19 selected nationally for this session.

New book focuses on service-learning in information sciences

Student musicians to compete in national competition
