ryan and i spent saturday at the bojangles 500 nascar race in darlington, south carolina. it was my first race EVER and let me tell you - i loved the experience. did you know at nascar races you can bring in your cooler filled with BEER? why don't more sports let you do this? its a genius idea.

after getting over the excitement of BYOB, we settled into our seats. being that it was my first race, i wanted to sit close to the track. bad idea. we were so close, rubber from the tires was literally in my hair. next time we go (because there will be a next), we'll sit higher. then you can see more of the track and don't have tire hair. but we were right in front of pit row which was cool and we had front row seats to the fight at the end of the race! (and i may or may not have been yelling, FIGHT FIGHT and egging the drivers on.)

while it might seem obvious that the cars are traveling at speeds of 150+mph, tv doesn't do it justice. the cars were driving by us so fast, that you couldn't even read the number on the car. i had no idea. i mean, i knew they went fast, but they were really FAST. i have a whole new respect for the drivers. it really is a dangerous sport. here's a quick video i took to really show you what i'm talking about.

ryan was especially happy because his favorite driver, jimmie johnoson #48, won the race. this photo was taken before the race....don't you like my new shades too? target.

we had such a good time. i'm already thinking about attending another race this year.

i'm so excited to share this photo. so excited, because this was a first.

my first yarn monogram order : D&L. they were married in april and knowing that i contributed a "small detail" to their big day makes me so excited. this is what i love! helping add those "small details" on big days...from weddings, to baby showers, to anniversary parties. details...details...details. its all in the details.

and guess what? i already have another letter in the works. all it takes is one to start an etsy frenzy.

mantle envy.

i immediately felt pangs of jealousy.

why? i spotted this mantle from tatertots & jello the other day in my google reader.

there's so much about this mantle decor that i love. first, the color of door. can you believe someone tried to paint over this beauty! second, the pops of color: the yellow wreath, the cut out frames and chevron canvases. thirdly, the moss letter. i really think i need one of those. shannanigans posted a great tutorial for one as part of her always crafty workshop. finally, how awesome is the stone fireplace? i NEED that in my house. its huge - hello there's a door on top of it!

perhaps this weekend, i'll give my mantle a spring cleaning...with temperatures expected to reach close to 80 next week, its practically already summer in augusta!

etsy in the morning. etsy in the evening. when etsy listings are up, i'm working on etsy all the time.

my shop has been open (and by open i mean, active with listings) for 2 months today! and i'm happy to report, i've made 68 sales!!

its been such a rewarding experience. from stir sticks, to straws to two yarn monograms, i'm working on a little bit of everything. and when i come up for air, i'll share some of the "small details" i've made.

yes, you read that correctly. i'm putting myself on a candy detox. i have been on a serious candy terror. milk duds. jelly bellys. sweet tarts (especially the chewy kind). nerds. chocolate. its BAD.

effective today, NO MORE CANDY!

my hope is that i can kick my sweet tooth in a few days. and make healthier decisions moving forward, like fruit. isn't fruit nature's candy?

while that might not be exciting for you, i am SO excited about my new purchases. i'm logging some serious airline miles this year (san diego, las vegas, san diego, st. louis, new orleans, anaheim, baltimore) and some serious car miles (charleston, DC, richmond, somewhere for masters weekend, and DC a few more times) and all this is before july! in order to take a little pain out of traveling, i'd mentioned to ryan i thought it was high time for me to get a "spinner" - those fancy dancy suitcases that spin 360. and walk WITH you, not BEHIND you. ground breaking technology here, i tell you.

well my awesome hubby was out and about {SHOPPING} and sent me a picture. and then brought home the little one. and then i went out and bought momma. and now i'm traveling in style.

remember my new years resolution to take more pictures? well i heard about the photo-a-day challenge from house of smiths and decided to join in. except i didn't really follow the challenge. while everyone else was following along and snapping a daily photo of a particular topic, i was merely trying to take a photo. in the end, i ended up with 31 days of photos. yippee!

it was revealed yesterday. and i couldn't be more excited.

amy atlas, my inspiration, revealed her book cover! its now available for pre-order on amazon. the book officially comes out april 24th. i can't wait to get my copy. its 352 pages of awesome-ness - from diy projects, dessert recipes and styling tips! in fact, it might be the first book i've read cover-to-cover in awhile.

if you don't know amy - you've probably still seen her influence. she's credited with starting the dessert table trend. and what a trend its been! and continues to be!

i took inspiration from her for our own wedding candy buffet. and our guests LOVED it.

{at the end of the night all the candy was gone except for the banana-grams and 2 vases were broken. i think a fight must have broke out over the last lemon slice.}

i'll be posting more details on our candy bar soon. in the meantime, enjoy some sweets virtually!

balloon wall.

my hubby turned 28 this past wednesday. i surprised him with a wall of balloons from the garage into the kitchen. i think he felt like a kid again!

the process was simple. i've been really stressed with work this week so i had A LOT of hot air in me. i used that to blow up the 15 balloons. then i braved new heights and hung the balloons at varying heights from the ceiling with yarn while standing on our kitchen chairs. you might not know this about me, but i get a little dizzy with heights.

i did a couple checks from the perspective of the garage to make sure it looked full, and then patiently waited for him to come home so i could video tape his entrance. have you ever noticed that when you're waiting for something, time creeps by? watch this video for instance, i started filming from the time his car pulled into the garage. i should also note, its incredibly awkward. but who doesn't love awkward? its charming.

see, i wasn't lying about awkward. ryan thought i was taking a photo so he's posing. and my voice! ahhhh, i hope i don't really sound like that! and the whispering...kinda creepy.

picnik is closing!

have you heard? picnik is closing! what a bummer. i first discovered this program in 2010 and loved it for its FREE photo editing software. the good news? its still available until april 19, 2012. and the premium features are FREE! my favorite tool from picnik? the stickers - i used them here, here, here and here.

looks like they are pushing creative kit from google+ as the replacement. i'm not familiar with it yet, but if its from the developers of picnik, i'm sure it'll be awesome.

before + after: wrapping paper organizer

yesterday, i previewed a project i was working on. today i'm here to share the before & after! i inherited this wrapping paper organizer from my grandfather. he built in in 1997. he made three - one for my grandma, one for my mom and one for my aunt. i'd always loved my moms so when my grandpa said i could have his, i jumped at the chance! i knew a little coat of paint and some TLC and it'd be brand new.

the before was a nice shade of yellowish white. i guess after 15 years of use, a little discoloring is to be expected. i had some teal paint leftover from the wedding (its valspar nautical if anyone wants to know) so i gave it a fresh coat. i used some wrapping paper to line the insides and voila - a fresh look!

what do you think? looks pretty good, right?!

i love it. and it fits perfectly in my craft closet. because of course, i didn't measure it before i had ryan move it from the kitchen into my office...fully loaded and all. it might be pretty but it is HEAVY. especially when you have 20 rolls of wrapping paper.

and 5 of them are the same. did anyone else see the cute wrapping paper target had this year at christmas time? i mean, teal birdies? yes please.

seriously, how pretty is this cake?! its my favorite color. its got a heart {and we all know i love a heart after our wedding} and...wait for it...

the inside is PINK. my SECOND favorite color. i die.
