Google is a very creative and forward thinking company, why should they be punished for providing something for free anyway? I really doubt that google is really trying to position themselves to become the next (AT&T) telecom company of choice. Besides, most revenue for telecom carriers in generated from private data services and Internet bandwidth and of course mobile phones. This is just not what google is in the business of doing. How AT&T and all telecom companies should be looking at this is that calling revenue is and has been going away, so, figure out new creative ways of creating value for your customers.

Being in the telecom business, it has been understood for many years now that calling revenue, such as, toll-free, long-distance, and international calling dollars have been shrinking to the point of no return.

Broadview Networks, the company I work for as an example includes for free 150k minutes just for hooking up to our VoIP platform officesuite. This is a state of the Hosted IP-PBX platform that delivers almost any telephony feature you could think of. Broadview realizes that our value is derived from the applications and network we deliver to our customers.

Does this old phone booth remind you of the aging phone system running your business?

Businesses are constantly searching for ways to enhance to their competitiveness by reducing costs, improving their value proposition for their overall customer experience all while allowing employees to work more efficiently.

Today, in the telecommunications industry, an innovative technology called VoIP – Voice over Internet Protocol (IP-delivered phone service) technology has matured, and makes all of the above and more, practical for SMBs (small and medium-sized enterprises). VoIP technology compresses voice (audio) data into packets that can be sent over private data networks and the Internet, and converted into traditional voice at the receiving end. This is the basis for some of the significant cost savings as the voice is actually just another type of data, allowing for integration with Web-based applications and developing new features it would be impossible with traditional networks.

SMBs require more performance from lower cost

Traditional telephone networks were designed to run exclusively on low-fidelity audio signals with a high degree of reliability. Even though these types of networks are extremely dependable for voice communication, they aren't suitable for today’s explosive growth of digital communications applications programs, because they are: costly to build, has the capacity from day one, the growth potential of address, have increased costs and the creation of an underutilized investment; transmit data at very low rates and resolutions, so that it's bad for the provision of high-fidelity audio, entertainment-quality video or other multimedia content, appropriate use of circuits for each call to allocate the fixed bandwidth dedicated to the entire call, regardless of whether or not voice is actually transferred, can not be used to provide new or differentiated services or functions such as video communication, that the network was not originally designed to accommodate.

Advantages of VoIP technology

VoIP uses packet switched networks to perform non-real time data with much less bandwidth on. The advantages of such networks are flexibility, efficiency and scalability. Flexibility: networks are often built in a range of designs that correspond to the number of users, client / server application requirements and also the desired bandwidth available.

Efficiency: Bandwidth is consumed only when needed, carrier's networks can converge their traditionally separate voice and data networks, and run voice, video, and data application traffic over the same network, many terminals can share the same connection to the network and as a result is more efficient traffic being transmitted over a packet switched network than over a circuit-switched telephony network.

Scalability: Extensions can easily be added to the network, as growth needs are required. In addition, in a mult-location business all telephone communication can be delivered to any location i.e., it's like having one phone system for all of you locations providing you seemless communication to all the employees. The end result is your customers experience when the call into your company.

These advantages help to create cost savings that can be passed on to business in the form of lower telecommunication bills. Around the world, could be more than 25 million small and medium enterprises to realize significant benefits through the use of VoIP as a telephone service.

A Hosted PBX

A Hosted IP PBX system with an integrated VoIP infrastructure for businesses. This system offers many advantages for SMEs than traditional telcom offer. Companies that opt for non-hosted VoIP phone systems, you must first spend in a scalable and very expensive to invest platform, as well as resources to set up, configure and maintain it – a significant overhead costs.

In a hosted PBX service, configuration and maintenance handled by the service and the monthly service price. connected in any comparison, an SMB must look at all these costs and consider the overall total cost of ownership over on-premise-based system to a hosted solution.

In a hosted IP PBX environment, a subscriber to their broadband IP network uses for a small business phone system and data service. Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) for VoIP service requires only IP phones or analog-digital converter for analog telephones. This reduces the start-up costs. Usually, all applications will also host the elimination of different providers and contact information.

Hosted PBX cut costs 30-70 percent

This technology has literally changed the landscape of business communications, now is the time to review what you have and what options exist for your business. In case of traditional business phone systems, each company must pay for expensive equipment, telephones, applications, installation, and maintenance and then the cost of the lines or trunks. On top of this must be a company in expensive monthly charges for local and Long Distance Calling, a service contract and the annual cost of upgrades to add.

Payback period for a PBX phone system can never occur and prevent smaller companies from considering a traditional business phone system and forces them to basic, multi-line service and phones that are usually really expensive to replace. Even after the very substantial investment customers could get a busy signal when the traffic exceeds the number of available lines. This is not the case for a Voice Over IP service as the calls will always be routed somewhere that is pre-determined by the customer.

Why invest in old technology, the only alternative is the regular, basic phone service, so that all users must be in the same physical location, use a restricted set of functions and pay a great cost front. Hosted PBX services nearly eliminate the investment costs and meet local and long distance calls cost for a small monthly fee, and include all functions.

Most VoIP Voice over IP carriers deliver and offer thier services slightly different. For most companys with the monthly fee, a company enjoys unlimited long distance and local calls in the U.S. and Canada, and can use all the advanced applications including auto-attendant, ring groups and extensions. These features would cost much more if they made with traditional solutions. Also, because each user can have two non-blocking lines, up to 20 calls can be handled by a single extension, which give busy signals and customer rates.

Hosted PBX Features

Most hosted PBX include unlimited calling in the U.S. and Canada; E911 emergency calls, a business class phone with one-touch controls, DND, park, conference and much more, auto attendant that your calls are to the corresponding extensions, fully equipped conference bridge, and much more!
Very good article and worth reading if you are interested in knowing were things are heading in airline ticket purchasing. Google in now getting closer to the money in the airline ticketing space. Google purchased ITA Software, a Massachussets-based flight-information software company, for $700 million in cash. ITA's search and pricing system is used by Google rival Microsoft, in addition to online travel agencies Kayak, Orbitz and many airline sites.

A few months ago, I wrote about a game plan for Google in online real estate, suggesting how and why they may actively enter the real estate market and use acquisitions to get there. On July 1st, Google announced that it was acquiring ITA Software, an airfare search and pricing provider, signaling an entry into the airfare search vertical.

For the major search engines, there are many analogies between airfare search and real estate listings, and the move to go deep on airfare search seems a clear indication that they are likely to do the same with real estate.

Consumers searching for airfare often enter queries directly into Google or Bing for things like “flights from Seattle to San Francisco.” Google returns a set of the standard blue links, which all immediately take the user out of the search engine and into a travel provider’s website.

When the carrier delivers an MPLS circuit this allows you to eliminate or reduce any jitter or latency back to the carrier switch. Preferably, you want to have MPLS on both ends, meaning your business and were your VoIP servers reside. This is really the only way to ensure real business class phone service.
