dear pastor wayne, I returned home yesterday from wakemed in raleigh nc where i had a stent implant. (i was out of town visiting my son ethan who is finishing his masters at southeastern and works as an intern with jd greer at summit church). it was very successful. in the er all i could do was weep. it reminded me of your talk “dead man running” at the 2006 leadership summit. back then it changed my life and probly helped spare it as well. i left off being the good student and went back to some of my depleating ways. i am thankful God has spared my life that i may continue to speak of his goodness and grace. irronically i was about half way thur your book “divine mentor.” what a blessing it has been. please pray for my sheep at parkway. mike welch

Hello pastor,
Just wondering if the surgery helped your atrial fribulation. I know I ask you once if you had AF(because you mentioned the symptoms in one of your books) and you respond yes. I hope this has resolved many of your heart condition. I battle with AF and asking God to heal me.

Pastor Wayne, We want to let ou know you’re in our prayers… I imagine you may be overwhelmed because you’ve been dealing with so much lately, and maybe you’re wondering (as we’ve wondered at times in our life) how things are ever going to work out. And I just wanted to remind you that although life brings many changes, God’s love for us remains consant. He’s always there, guiding us through decisions and help us do the hard things …always restoring in us a sense of hope and peace no matter what we’re facing. And the most beautiful thing about God is that the more we need Him the closer He is…That’s how I know He is especially close to you now. !

Dear Pastor Wayne and Anna:

Hope you both are doing well. I know that heaven has been swamped with prayers for your healing, Pastor Wayne. Your O’hana at New Hope continue those prayers knowing that God and His angels have their arms wrapped around you and your family.

I loved the picture of Katie in the apple orchard. Grandchildren are just the best that God has given. I now have three and am presently in Cincinnati, Ohio with my daughter and son-in-law and their 3 month old twins, Lukas and Lilian. While they have some health problems since they were premmies, they are just the cutest.

Can’t wait to get home and welcome you back in person.

I know that God will continue to shower you with His mighty blessings.

My husband was in a very bad car accident in mid July. We are both New Hope Farrington members and I had written his secretary to ask if Pastor Wayne could stop up to Tripler and meet him. I understood if he could not, as I know he is/was a very busy man. Not only did he show up at Tripler to my husbands room, he said a prayer for his recovery and stayed for pictures. Now my blessings and deepest prayers are with Pastor Wayne. What an extraordinary man. Get well soon. Sincerely, Luis and Lisa Martinez

Great Observation!

I would define a leader as a “servant who takes the initiative to serve and to serve well.” One man said that you never diminish the flame of your own candle by lighting the flame of someone else. As leaders, we live to make others in our teams successful, not vice versa. The challenge is to follow Christ’s example and move towards the fourth level.

As you said, the first three aren’t really “leadership”. However, often we will have those in “leadership” that will take on these characteristics, yet they aren’t necessarily leading - rather they are dictating to those under them what they should do.

Leadership occurs when those under a leader will do anything to help that leader because of a common trust that is shared. It is also important to note that as much as we would like to, a leader won’t always operate in the fourth level. There will be times, when a leader might shift to character based leadership or corporate leadership.
