Let’s keep learning. Part 2 of 7 Deadly Sins of Prospecting.

Sin #3: Expecting your upline to close all your prospects.

Though this sounds good, it is not. This helps to instill no confidence in yourself. Makes you too dependent on your sponsor/upline. Your sponsor/upline is there to coach you, but not to work your business for you. You have to work the business yourself.

Sin #4: Overloading the prospect with too much information.

Don’t give your prospect links to all of your websites, DVD’s, YouTube and Facebook pages. They will feel overwhelmed and you will lose them as a prospect.

Let’s Keep Learning.

Sin #5: Getting stuck in show and tell mode.

This happens all the time. People are so excited about their new business, they want to tell everyone about it. They start talking about how great the products and comp plan is and how much money you can make in six months. They forget one thing: the prospect doesn’t care about any of that. The prospect wants to know how the business is going to benefit him/her. The prospect is thinking only about themselves. You have to think about the prospect. What are their wants and needs? Is your new business a “fit” for them. Remember the prospect comes first.

I was listening again to another Leader’s Club audio program called “The 7 deadly sins of prospecting.” This was enlightening. I did not realize I was committing some of these sins as I prospect. I want to share with you what the sins are and avoid doing them. Since there are seven of them I will share them two at a time over the course of a week. Let’s keep learning.

Sin #1: Relying exclusively on a single marketing medium.

How is your marketing strategy? Is it expanding, stuck in place, or shrinking? You can not rely on only one method to generate leads. Yet you have to use your power of reason not to try different methods all at one. Neither go into debt using the different methods. Be balanced in your marketing efforts.

Sin #2: Expecting the tools to do all the work for you.

Auto responders and websites are good tools to use. Yet when they begin to replace the human being, we end up confused and wonder why our marketing is not working. Network Marketing is a people business. You must talk and connect with people in order for your business to grow. In order to build a business.

I was listening to a Leaders Club network marketing training course the other day called, “How To Communicate The Benefits of Your Offer” and the host Andre Vatke, made a great point as to why people fail in network marketing.

He said there are basically 3 categories that 97% of people fall into. That’s kind of a sad statistic but one that Leaders Club has been helping people beat for a really long time.

The 3 reason why people fail are…

1) Apathy.

When you think about it this really makes sense. As much as we want to build a business if go into it with a lottery mindset we won’t have much to get us to move us to do the things a business needs to survive. Unless you are set and committed to making a change in your life you will eventually go back to whatever you are used to doing – which probably isn’t building a network marketing business.

2) Fear.

For a lot of people it can be scary talking to prospects. And there is a lot to be afraid of in business too. You have to risk your hard earned money on marketing, ads, leads, materials, websites and all kinds of stuff that you just don’t know for sure will pay of. It’s understandable – yet necessary – to freeze up in this situation and do nothing.

3) Not knowing what you are doing. aka knowledge

Andre said that there is an even more dangerous cousin to this one called “Not knowing what you are doing yet believing that you do know what you are doing!” If you can’t explain the features of your product or service and if you can’t communicate the benefits of your offer your marketing will fail. There’s no chance of attraction in fact it will be like to same poles of a magnet repulsing each other.

This audio training program was a real eye opener. Understanding ‘benefits’ and knowing how to communicate them will help me in all my marketing, from talking with prospects to lead generation to even this blog.

If you find yourself frustrated with your own marketing or paralyzed by fear stop by and check out the network marketing training program over at Leaders Club. You can’t go wrong there.

You answer an ad for a home-based business. The person on the other end of the line begins to tell you all about the business. How great the product are. How much it will cost to get started, etc, etc. You’re offended. You hang up the phone. Why?

Because the person did not get to know you. He/she did not ask you why you wanted a home-based business. What you were looking for in such a business. Did not ask about your need and wants pertaining to the business. Bottom line he/she did not connect with you. Did not build rapport with you. No relationship was established.

In order to build a network marketing business you need people. People want to know you are interested in them. Not treat them as another dollar in the check. Learn about the person first. Listen and understand them first. Remember offer solutions to their wants and needs. Focus on them. Talk about the business second.
