Eddie Alvarez vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri: Wow, what an amazing fight. These guys just went out and banged, and put on one hell of a fight. Each Fighter landed big shots that droped the other, but Alvarez was able to land the more powerful and cleaner shots that eventually stopped Kawajiri.

Shinya Aoki vs. Caol Uno: This fight just shows how good Aoki truly is on the ground. Aoki dominated Uno for the better part of fifteen minutes on the ground, almost ending the fight with a tight triangle choke. Uno proved himself game by managing to escape the submissions of Aoki, but when it came time to decide the winer Aoki had left no doubt for the judges.

Alistair Overeem: Overeem only need 1:11 to submit Mark Hunt. Overeem called out Mirko “Cro Cop” after his victory over Tae Hyun Lee at Dream 4, so I really hope this fight gets made.

Dream 5 Misses

Eddie Alvarez not being able to continue: When Eddie came out to tell the crowd that he would not be able to compete in the final match due to his eye injury I just felt incredibly bad for him. He busted his ass and banged it out in two of the best fights in the tournament only not to be able to fight for the title due to the nature of the tournament finals rules. Speaking of the rules it is incredibly stupid in the modern MMA world to still have fighters fighting more than one fight a night. It does nothing but set up the possibility of a fight not being able to continue and missing out on the opportunity that is rightful his. How many more times will something like this have to happen before we let the ideal of a one day tournament die.

Katsuyori Shibata: Dream why do you feel the need to continue putting this man in huge mismatch fights on your shows. I have no desire to see this man get completely destroyed, and made to look like a fool like his fight with Jason "Mayhem" Miller.

Hideo Tokoro vs. Takeshi Yamazaki: What can I really say other than wow this fight really sucked. Its never good when Yamazaki getting kicked in the junk a few times was some of the more exciting action.

Thiago Alves (17-4) couldn’t make weight for the biggest fight of his mixed marital arts career. The big news coming out of today UFC 85 weigh-ins was that the main event will now be contested at the catch weight of 174 pounds due to Alves showing up 4 pounds heavy. His opponent former 2 time UFC welterweight champion, and possibly the greatest welterweight of all time, Matt Hughes (42-6) came in right at the 170 pound mark.

As you know I verbally destroyed Elite XC female mixed martial artist Gina Carano for showing up 4 pounds heavy for her fight with Kaitlin Young. I can only echo that same venom for Thiago Alves. Showing up overweight for a fight is despicable, disrespectful, and downright insulting to the sport of mixed martial arts. I hope Thiago has enjoyed his time in the UFC, because I can very well see him being blacklisted in the same manner as Travis Lutter. Unlike Carano, Alves is just another fighter in the UFC and won’t be giving any special treatment by UFC President Dana White.
