OK fight fans here we go !!!! Live from the Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario, Canada on April 30 2011 at 10:00 pm ET/7:00 pm PT, it’s UFC 129 ST. Pierre vs Jake Shields. This could turn out to be the fight card of the year. Can Jake Shields take down St. Pierre? Jose Also first fight in the UFC, can he still be as dominating as he was in the WEC? Possibly the last time we see Randy “The Natural” Couture in the Octagon. Mark Bocek takes on Ben Hendersons to start off the main card. If that’s not enough, we get Nate Diaz vs Rory MacDonald and Brian Foster vs Sean Pierson on the Spike TV pre lims. I don’t know about you fight fans but this fight card gets me fired up. I can’t wait to see what goes down on Arpil 30 at the Rogers Centre, Toronto, Canada.

Ok fight fans another awesome fight card is getting set for action. Rashad Evans was injured and a shot at the title was given to the new young gun Jon”Bones” Jones. Could we see yet another light heavy weight champion or will Shogun be the one to shut down Jones and his run at the Lightheavyweight Championship.

The co-main event will feature the California Kid, who will be trying hard to make a good impression in his first time in the UFC. His opponent Eddie Wineland would love to welcome him to the UFC with a highlight reel KO . This fight has all the ingredients to be the best fight of the night. I hope both of the fighters are ready to bring it and bring it hard! I know this, come March 19 there are a lot of beat downs that are going to take place in Newark, Jersey and the UFC fight card should be awesome too!  Also, remember to look at my UFC 128 fight predictions and the possibility of a UFC 128 $100 fight prediction contest.

Ok fight fans here we go! The punk is back, so lets get things started with some UFC 127 fight predictions. The  UFC invades the land down under on February 27, 2011 at Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia and brings with them a huge fight card for the fans. This fight card is packed with potential nonstop action and some highlight reel knockouts in the making.

Chris Camozzi vs Kyle Noke will get things started on the main card with Carlos Condit vs Chris Lytle turning up the heat. Chris will be looking to shut down Carlos’ run for a shot at the title. George Sotiropoulos vs Dennis Silver will fuel the fire with Siver looking to shut down Stiropoulos’ 8 fight win streak. Then, to put a little spice into the mix, the co-main event with Jorge Rivera, who will be looking to take down the British Sensation Michael Bisping, and add another win to his record. I’m sure the Count will have much to say about that, but he always does. Then, if you can’t take anymore, the Main event with Jon Fitch vs BJ Penn will be something you will not want to miss. BJ just destroyed Matt Hughes at UFC 123 and will be looking to add another win to his record. First he will have to shutdown Jon Fitch, which will not be an easy task. Fitch is looking to stop BJ so he can get back to his run at the title. If your not excited about this fight card then you should be. Ok fight fans lets take a closer look at the fight and how they match up. We have a lot to do so lets get to it.

Main Bouts:

-Jon Fitch (23-3-0)vs. B.J. “The Prodigy”Penn (16-7-1)

Jon Fitch (33) fights out of American top team Fort Wayne, Indiana. He has 23 wins by way of 5 (t)ko, 5 submissions, 13 decisions.  losses, 1 (t)ko, 1 submission and 1 decision. Jon Fitch was on a 16 fight win streak until he was beaten by GSP at UFC 87. Since then he has not been beaten and is on a five fight win streak all by unanimous decision.

Bj Penn(33) fights out BJ Penn’s MMA in Hilo Hawaii. He has 16 wins by way of 7 (t)ko, 6 submissions and 3 decisions,losses 2 (t)ko and 5 decisions. As you know if you have ever been on MMApunk you know there is no love loss between me and BJ penn. He always makes it on my list of  most hated MMA fighters. BJ lost his title to Frankie Edgar at UFC 112 and  he also lost the rematch at UFC 118. BJ’s last fight was against Matt Hughes; and BJ made short work of the former champ by an impressive knockout in 21 seconds in the first round.

The Fight:This could turn into a war down under. Bj did look good in his last fight with Hughes, but I do not think he can handle stepping in the Octagon with Fitch. Penn had better come in shape and be ready to go and go hard for all three rounds. There is no doubt Fitch will be ready for a war all three rounds. I do not care for Penn but I do respect the fact that he can fight. Fitch will have to out work Penn standing using his reach to his advantage. Fitch can not let Penn gain the advantage on the ground. If Fitch can gain control early I believe he can mantain it through the whole fight.

My prediction: Jon Fitch

-Michael”The Count” Bisping (20-3-0) vs. Jorge “El Conquistador”Rivera (19-7)

Michael Bisping (33) fights out of the Wolfslair Liverpool, England. He has 20 wins 12 by way of (t)ko , 4  submissions, 4 decisions, losses, 1 (t)ko, 2 decisions.The Count was on his way to the title untill Dan Henderson shut him down at UFC 100 with a amazing knock out. The Count is on a 2 fight win streak, his last fight was with Yoshihio Akiyama and won by decision.The Count is looking to climb the latter back to the top and a shot at the title.

Jorge Rivera (38) fights out of Peter Welch’s gym/Tim Burrill Jiu Jitsu Miflord, Massachusetts. He has 19 wins by way of 13 (t)ko 2 submissions.4 decisons, losses 4(t)ko, 3submissions. Jorge is on a 3 fight win streak with very impressive TKO wins over Rob Kimmons and Nate Quarry Just like Bisping, Jorge is looking to improve his record and a shot at the title.

The Fight:This should be another great war in the Octagon with both fighters looking to improve their record. I will give  the advantage in the stand up game to Bisping. The only reason I give Bisping the advantage in the stand-up game is because I know the Wolfslair boys are working hard on the Counts striking. I’m not saying Jorge can’t stand and bang with Bisping because he has those kinda tools in the tool box. Jorge can’t let The Count get off first and use his reach and speed to his advantage and keep the Count guessing. If Jorge can bring some awesome take down defense he should have a chance of taking it to the Count. This is a hard one to call  but I’m going with my gut.

MY prediction: Micheal Bisping

-George Sotiropoulos (14-2-0) vs. Dennis Siver (17-7-0)

George Sotiropoulos(34)fights out of Fisticuffs Gym Geelong Victoria,Australia he has 14 win by way  of 1 (t)ko,8 submission, 5 decisions. losses 1 decision and I other? George is on a 8 fight win streak and his last fight was against Joe lauzon where he snuck in an amazing kimura for a submission win in the 2nd round.

Dennis Siver(32)fights out of Kiboju Mannheim Germany. He has 17 win 5 by way of (t)ko 9 submission,3 decision losses 1 (t)ko, 4 submission, 2 decision. He is on a two fight win streak with huge victories over Spencer Fisher and nasty rear naked choke submission win over Andre winner in the first round at UFC 122.

The Fight: I would expect a lot of the action in this fight to take place on the ground. I will give the the advantage in the stand up to Dennis. He has some heavy hands  and is not scared to throw down in the center of the Octagon. He will have to stuff George takedowns attempts and keep the fight standing. I just do not see George going toe to toe with Dennis. George needs to wear down Dennis and get the figh to the gorund. Then George can use his submission skill to bring the fight to the end.

-Carlos”Natural Born Killer” Condit (26-5-0)vs. Chris”Lights Out” Lytle (30-17-5)

Carlos”Natural Born Killer” Condit(27) fights out of  Jackson’s Mixed Matrial Arts Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has 26 wins 12 by way of (t)ko,13 submissions,1 decision, losses 3 submissions,1 decision. Carlos was on a 8 fight win streak until Martin Kampmann put a stop to that. Since then Carlos has got back to his winning way with 3 straight wins. His last fight was against notorious striker Dan Hardy where he drop Hardy in the first round with a brutel over hand right at UFC 120.

Chris “Lights Out”Lytle(37) fights out of Integrated Fighting Academy Indianapolis, Indiana. He has 30 wins 3 by way of (t)ko,21 submissions,6 decisions,losses 2(t)ko,15 decisions.Chris is on a 4 fight win streak, his last fight was against Matt Serra where he won by unanimous decision at UFC 119.

The Fight:Fight of the night in the making right here, youth vs experience. These two fighter both throw very heavy hands and can get it down on the ground. This fight  could go all three rounds or it could be over in the first 2 minutes of the first round. Chris is a great fighter with a ton of experience. He has fought some of the best in the business but with that experance comes the question of his age being a factor. Carlos has the advantage of youth on his side not to mention the fact that he has been trained by Greg Jackson. I would really like to pick Lytle here but I’m going with Carlos for the win.

(UPDATE): Carlos had to withdraw from the fight due to a knee injury. It is unknow at this time if there will be a replacement or if the fight will be dropped form ther card.

Chris Camozzi(25) fights out of  Gumm Mixed Martial Arts Lakewood, Colorado. He has  14 wins 4 by way of (t)ko, 5 submissions,5 decisions, losses 2 submissions, 1 decision. Chris is on a 4 fight win streak,his last fight was against Dongi Yang where he won by split decision at UFC 121.

Kyle”KO”Noke(31) fights out of Integrated MMA Dubbo, New South Wales,Australia. he has 18 wins by ways of 6 (t)ko,7 submissions,5 decision losses1(t)ko,1 submission,2 decisions.Kyle is on a 4 fight win streak and his last fight was against Rob Kimmons where he won by awesome  rear naked choke submission in the second round at UFC 122.

The Fight: Once again a great match up with both fighters strong in the stand up and ground game. I can’t wait to see where this fight goes.

Dana White announced on “Jim Rome is burning” that Anderson Silva will be mixing it up with Chael Sonnen at UFC 117 in Utah. First of all Utah isn’t exactly going to be friendly confines for the Spider but I won’t even go there.

So it looks like Sonnen did enough talking to get his shot at Silva after all. I say talking because his record’s not exactly great is it. He’s 3-1 in his second go around with the UFC which includes a submission loss to Damian Maia via triangle choke. In Chael’s defense though he did reel off 3 wins since, albeit decision wins, but wins none the less. He defeated Dan Miller, Yuhin Okami and the once sure thing for a title shot Nate Marquardt. I don’t know if a guy that was handled so easilly by Maia can even compete with the likes of the spider.

Sonnen went as far to say that some guys deserve to be beat up and Anderson is one of them. That tells me he plans on banging with Silva. Can that really be a good thing for Sonnen to do! I’m sorry but this doesn’t seem like much of a punishment for the champ , instead it looks like an attempt to bring all the Silva fans out of hiding and make Anderson look like a KO machine once again. Remember only 2 of Silvas fights have gone the distance and theres no way that Sonnen can out strike Silva so this fight only has one possible outcome, a KO followed by Buffer announcing AND STLL.

By late August I see Anderson Silva being everyones hero again. Damn I was just getting comfortable with this guy being the guy everyone LOVES to HATE. Something like Lesnar. Oh well, I guess there wont be “A Bad Guy” holding the middleweight title but a everybody’s favorite KO machine. Anderson “The Spider” Silva.

At UFC 112 many fans witnessed what is considered to be one of, if not the, most disrespectful fights in mma history, Anderson Silva vs. Damien Maia. Silva had stated “Maia disrespected me as a fighter” and said “This is my job and I take it seriously.” Being and mma fighter would be one hell of a job, a job in entertainment where the fans play a massive toll. But mma is a sport, and in sports respect is earned with skills and sportsmanship. Anderson clearly has the skills of a champion, and at one time showed a great deal of sportsmanship.

On Saturday April 10th Silva completely disrespected Maia, and even his own fans. Silva clearly came into this fight incredibly angry and had a game plan of embarrassing Maia like he did Griffin. Silva’s fight with Griffin was the beginning of the new side we see of him, basically a humble fighter that has been eaten alive by confidence. Yet us as fans praised the Silva vs. Griffin fight calling it “the most embarrassing KO” and “one of the most impressive display of stand up skills”. Silva earned knockout of the night AND fight of the night. In a career clearly you would be wanting to earn the most possible in the situation you are given.

Anderson wanted a bonus for this fight, and to earn it he needed to get the crowd excited and out of their seats, they loved it last time so why not this time? Silva came out with the same game plan, except this time to our surprise went for 3 rounds straight. After having the first three were in the books, Silva pulled out the dirty card and ran away for the next 2 rounds. This was a low shot at the fans. Silva as we all know is a counter puncher, and almost needs you to come at him. But Maia wasn’t willing to play his game. But put yourself in Silva’s shoes for one minute…. You’re considered one of the best on the entire planet, you’ve completely demolished a weight class in the best league in the world, won your last 12 fights in a row, which consisted you stealing the belt and defending it a record breaking 6 times. You’re the man… and there’s nothing to it, or so you would think so. The confidence is will beat u down, a true champion is someone who can stay humble through all of this. Which Silva seems to have lost.

As annoying as this can be, Silva is the MW champ, and he’ll be in the UFC the entire time he is the champ, and he knows this. Silva seems to look at the competition as amateurs, almost as if their just sparing partners. We are all clearly disappointed with him right now, but there’s nothing we can do… he can screw with everyone he fights and he can pull it off every time, he can do what he wants. Love him or Hate him, he has the belt, MW division is his house and if you want that house you gotta beat him. I do feel for Maia, but as for him saying that “the last 2 rounds I tried a lot harder but he just wouldn’t fight me”… he danced around the last 2 rounds and barely threw shots, you want the belt? Then get it…. You’re not in the woods, or on the streets, your in a locked up cage… he’s got no where to go. You can’t stand around and expect a counter puncher to attack you..

As for Silva being on an undercard, forget it guys. Even if 100% of UFC fans hated him, his pay per views will still sell out every time because one day he will lose the belt and everyone wants to see it. Maybe this will really spice up the UFC even more, a hated disrespectful champ. A clown who could become a UFC villain, Something like the Joker. Who wouldn’t wanna see him lose. It WILL happen when he faces someone who isn’t intimidated, nervous, and makes a lot of mistakes. In other words we need a Batman (A.K.A GSP)

Prediction– GSP by unam decision, 5 rounds of being pinned on his ass, getting tea bagged, and ground & pounded till his face looks like chewed up bubble gum.

As the french would say, “I tink e would lose te fight!”

Maia vs. Silva

With the upcoming UFC 112 “invincible” just around the corner the big debate is can Demian Maia beat Anderson Silva?

We all know Anderson Silva (25-4-0) is a superb striker and is deadly to say the least in the clinch but has shown some holes in his ground game and take down defense (exposed by Travis Lutter) Anderson has a black belt in BJJ and has shown his skill in the art by tapping out Lutter and Henderson .BUT all 4 of his losses have come via submission .

Maia (12-1-0) is arguably the best BJJ artist in the world today the 5 time BJJ champion has taken the fight with 8 weeks to train, Maia has finished 8 of his 12 wins via submission with 5 of those in the UFC  4 of which have awarded him submission of the night bonuses. Maia has been improving on his striking and is training with wand fight team  for his upcoming bout .

As long as Maia can stay away from Silva’s hands and survive any clinch situations long enough to take the champ down the difference in BJJ superiority will become apparent and Maia COULD walk away with the belt!.

BAM makes a great point about this fight. Maia could be the one to take down the spider. What do you think?

Could UFC 112 be known as anything else but INVINCIBLE?  The namesake for 112 is very interesting considering both Anderson Silva and BJ Penn will making yet another title defense, but how does Matt Hughes fit it to the picture?

Anderson “The Spider” Silva (25-4) will be back in the Octagon defending the Middleweight title Sat. Night versus Damian Maia (12-1).  Silva who is undefeated in the UFC will be making his 6th title defense and so far has looked comfortable in them all.  If Maia can’t impose his will and out wrestle/grapple Anderson during this fight it will be hard for him to back up his bold words. (“If I get his arm or his neck, he’s going to be in trouble.  As soon as I get the chance, I WILL put him down”).  The Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion can ill afford to only rely on the possibility of a submission as he will surely be behind on the score cards in the striking department.  Maia will have to do enough to win rounds as well as look for the Submission, if he’s up to the task of taking the championship from The Spider.  If Anderson can defeat the BJJ ace Maia on the ground he will surely be  considered “INVINCIBLE” in the Middle Weight division.

On the same card another dominant force BJ “The Prodigy” Penn (15-5-1) will be defending his title against Frankie “The Answer” Edgar (11-1).  Penn who has the most Lightweight title fights 6, the most Lightweight title fight wins 4, and the most Lightweight title defenses 3 will be looking to build on all of those UFC records Sat. night.  Edgar will have a huge mountain to climb trying to de-throne Penn.  Frankie is currently on a 3 fight win streak after his Unanimous decision loss to Gray Maynard.  Edgar looked good in his last fight a submission victory over Matt Veach in December 09.  Will Edgar have “THE ANSWER” Sat. night and be able to end the dominant run of BJ Penn at Lightweight?  NO WAY!!!  Edgar will get his free ride through the wood-chipper at UFC 112 and The Prodigy just like The Spider will remain “INVINCIBLE” in the Lightweight division.

Last and probably the least of the 3 big fights at 112 it’s Matt Hughes (44-7) taking on Renzo Gracie (13-6-1) 1 N.C..  A much anticipated fight at UFC 60 pitted Hughes against Royce Gracie.  At one point in history the Gracie family seemed “INVINCIBLE” but at  UFC 60 they were anything but as Matt Hughes defeated the legendary Roce Gracie in the very first round via TKO.  This time around at 112 Renzo will try to avenge that loss and defeat Hughes proving that Gracie family jiu-jitsu can reign supreme once again.  Although I feel Renzo will put up a decent fight at 112 Matt Hughes will prove “INVINCIBLE” when it comes to the Gracie family after a 1st round TKO of Renzo as well.

So, Silva, Penn and Hughes “INVINCIBLE at 112″ ? I say yes… you???

Geoff did predictions for Ultimate Fight Night Live 21 and did a awesome job, so let give props for the great work.

ULTIMATE FIGHT NIGHT 21 OVERVIEW/PREDICTIONS

UFN 21 AKA Florian vs. Gomi is on for Mar 31st in Charlotte North Carolina.  The main card which will be televised is no joke.  In the main event Kenny Florian (14-4) -300 will be welcoming Takanori Gomi (31-5) +220 to the UFC.  Gomi has 36 pro fights to date and will prove to be a worthy opponent for the on again off again contender Florian.  This will be an exciting fight with enough action and maybe blood to even keep the most casual fight fan interested. When asked about the difference between fighting the UFC and Pride Gomi answered elbows, and we all know Ken Flo has some devastating elbows.  It will be fun to see how Gomi copes in the Octagon with different striking rules and the pool of young talented light weights the UFC provides.  I’m leaning towards Florian winning an exciting fight that goes the distance via UD.

In the Co main event Roy Nelson (15-4) -300 will be taking on the 22yr old Skyskraper Stefan Struve (23-3) +220.  Roy Nelson has gone on the record to have nothing bad to say about Struve but believes he will control Struve on Route to a stoppage in this fight.  He believes his experience, weight, and superior skill in all areas will be enough to get past Struve and even Brock Lesnar for that matter.  Struve on the other hand is not coming into this fight scared.  He has excellent Subm’s for a man his height and will use his long limbs to try to catch Big Country.  On his feet Struve is also going in confident after training with K-1 kickboxers to tune up his always improving stand up game.  I see Nelson landed a big shot at some point in the fight and eventually ground and pounding out a T/KO victory as long as he can avoid the Submission skill of Struve on the mat.

Nate Quarry (18-3) -300 will be looking to climb the ranks of the middleweight division when he takes on Jorge Rivera (17-7) +220. Nate has an impressive 7-2 record in the UFC with his only losses coming to top fighters Rich Franklin and Demian Maia.  Since his loss to Maia the Rock has realed off two impressive victories in the Octagon.  Rivera on the other hand is 6-5 in the UFC and a very up and down fighter, he’s currently on his longest winning streak in the UFC with two straight victories.  He’s been stopped by Kampmann, Martin, Leban and Rich Franklin which shows hes prone to collapse when on the rec. end of a heavy hitter. I feel like El Conquistadors night will end via T/KO in the late first or early second round.

Finally, Ross Pearson (12-3) -210 will get Denis Siver (15-6) +165 in a light weight match up. Pearson has had a great start to his UFC career with a win over countrymen Andre Winner (fighting on the undercard) at TUF Team USA vs. Team U.K. finale and a TKO victory vs. Aaron Riley at UFC 105.  Pearson has a strong stand up very good knees with a solid wrestling base to inflict his ground and pound.  Denis Siver is a tough competitor in his own right amassing a 4-3 record in the Octagon.  After two straight losses to Maynard and Guillard hes realed off three straight stoppages vs. Mohr, Hartt and Kelly.  A good puncher with great take downs you cant count him out of this fight. That being said I think he’ll be more a gate keeper in the division as Ross The Real Deal continues his climb up the light weight ranks towards some more danerous apponents. Pearson will win a closely contended fight via three round sweep, UD.

Ok fight fans what an incredible night of fights. First off, I would like to thank everyone for entering the UFC 111 fight prediction contest. This has been the biggest contest we have had so far. The contest was awesome and we had a total of 51 entries this time. I had to drop the Thiago Alves vs. Jon Fitch and Jake Ellenberger vs. Ben Saunders because they changed at the last minute. The only fights that counts is the Georges St-Pierre vs. Dan Hardy, Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir and Mark Bocek vs. Jim Miller. The total number of points was reduced to 12.

Some of you did not read the rules and I was forced not to award points for prediction. You must pick submission, TKO, KO, split decision or unanimous decision. Just putting decision does not cut it and you received no points for the pick.

We didn’t get a ‘Are you Kiddin me’ out of Mike Goldberg so no bonus were given, however there was a three way tie because 3 people had a perfect prediction on the 3 remaining fights. Here are their picks.
