If you are just starting out in internet marketing and are struggling to entice subscribers to join your mailing list, then you should give serious consideration to using JV Giveaways. In this guest post by David Walker, you will find out how to build your subscriber list starting from scratch using JV giveaways.

Today’s post is written by UK-based blogger and internet marketer David Walker who wants to discuss using JV Giveaways as a method of building your list from zero. David has also hosted his own giveaways and his previous one, themed around his 30th Birthday, added 3,000 new subscribers to his list in just over a week.

Introducing JV Giveaways

If you are just starting out in internet marketing and are struggling to entice subscribers to join your mailing list, then you should give serious consideration to using JV Giveaways.

Giveaways, in simple terms, are time-limited free membership websites where marketers submit their free products and allow members to download them in return for joining their mailing list.

There are numerous giveaways taking place every month and better still, they are free to join. Therefore, you have nothing to lose by submitting your product and taking advantage of the surge of traffic that hits these sites on almost a daily basis on any given month.

Your Free Gift

As long as your free product fits in with the overall theme of the giveaway then almost anything is acceptable. Most events are themed around internet marketing products and will accept PDF reports, videos, audio files, templates, graphics, scripts, memberships and products with Master Resell Rights (MRR) and Private Label Rights (PLR).

However, make sure your gift is relevant because some events may be specific to a sub-niche, such as “Graphics Only” or “PLR Only” while others may not even be in the internet marketing niche – they could be health or self-improvement related.

I would advise everyone who wants to get involved in giveaways to create your own unique gift rather than submitting an old product you have resell rights to. This is because several people could try to submit the same gift and have them declined and even if yours does get accepted, the chances are the members looking for gifts may already have that product and will ignore you.

If the thought of creating your own product from scratch terrifies you then you could always use a PLR product but make sure you rewrite it thoroughly to add your own personality and experiences. You can also add in a few affiliate links of your own which will help you make money online during these tricky early days. Remember to invest a few dollars in getting some new graphics created for it too as the default most PLR products come with are usually awful.

Separating the Wheat from the Chaff

An important point to remember when participating in giveaways is they are not all the same in terms of quality and popularity but they will all try to sell you an upgraded membership.

An upgraded account usually allows you to submit more than one free gift, a low-price paid product and depending on what script the host is using, some banner or text adverts.

In the early days I’d recommend you enter every giveaway you come across but as a free member only. This way you will get an education in how these events work and also learn about the people who run them.

As you become more experienced, you will notice the same host names appear over and over. Some people run crappy events which don’t get many contributors or members while others run great events which have a real buzz about them and attract a tidal wave of traffic.

With this experience under your belt you will be able to make an informed decision whether or not to upgrade your membership upon signing up.

Even if the event is crappy, it’s still worth registering as a free member and submitting your gift. For a few minutes work you can still add a few subscribers to your list and appearing in as many events as possible is good exposure for your own personal brand.

Promoting Giveaways Without a List

While giveaways are a great way to increase your subscriber base, there is one unfortunate downside.

As a contributor, you are expected to promote the list and get members and even further contributors to register under your unique referral ID.

This is what drives the traffic to the events as well as the hosts themselves promoting it.

However, if you don’t manage to refer anyone to the event, the majority of giveaways will downgrade your account to that of a member and remove your gift.

This is a short-sighted approach because for marketers just starting out it is not they don’t want to promote a giveaway, it’s just they find it difficult to do so without a list already in place.

Some giveaways, like those I host, do not downgrade contributors for “non promotion”, making them extra-friendly for newbies but for the others, you will need to promote any way you can.

If you have Twitter and Facebook accounts, promote your referral links on them. Add your links to the signature files of any forums you post in frequently and for the more popular events, write a blog post about them.

As a marketer you should be making new contacts daily so round-up a few like-minded folk on Skype and register for the giveaways under each others referral links.

By using all of these methods you will be able to get a few referrals under your belt to avoid your account being downgraded and take advantage of the free traffic winging it’s way to your opt-in list!

Wordpress Authority by Andrew Endres just launched, but I actually got a chance to review it before the official launch and I am going to tell you exactly what I think of it.
Andrew Endres is one of those “Underground Marketers” who claims that he “Blows the Whistle and Reveals the Most Guarded Secret of the Guru’s Millionaire Club that Could Turn the Online Marketing World On It’s Head”.
You can check his claims on the sales page at http://www.wp-authority.com
But is this program any good and does he deliver on that claim?
Before I give you my Wordpress Authority Review, I want to tell you exactly what this program is. I was pretty surprised when I got early access to the program because based on the price I thought I would be getting a pdf or two and some videos…but this program is a whole lot more than that. Basically, Wordpress Authority is a membership site that clearly lays out what you need to do, step-by-step to create a profitable online affiliate business using – Wordpress of course.

Andrew Endres is one of those “Underground Marketers” who claims that he “Blows the Whistle and Reveals the Most Guarded Secret of the Guru’s Millionaire Club that Could Turn the Online Marketing World On It’s Head”.

The membership website’s layout is pretty cool and easy to navigate – you can basically use the navigation bar to walk through the processes from beginning to end. The information is clearly laid out and easy to follow. What sets this program apart from a lot of other programs I have reviewed is that Andrew is not just giving you an expanation of what to do but also how to do it which is what you really need if you want to make money online. I mean anyone can just say build a site, add content, add affiliate links, and drive traffic and you will make a ton of money – that’s the what that you get with most courses, but Andrew tells you how to do it which is that critical key component that is missing from most make money online programs out there – especially from anything as reasonably priced as Wordpress Authority.

This program isn’t full of fluff either – Andrew gets down to the nuts and bolts of what it takes to make money online. The other thing that I find sets Wordpress Authority apart from most programs is that it is all inclusive – you get what you need to go from scratch to making money. So many programs are just pieces to the puzzle. Not only do you get all the puzzle pieces, but the map that show you how to put them together.

One of the most valuable things that he discloses is how to pick your niche and why it could make or break you. That is just one of the things he is talking about when he talks about revealing the most guarded secret of the gurus. You think you know what it is? Andrew tells you exactly how to become an “authority” just like the gurus so you can make a ton of money.

It has taken me the better part of a week to go through all of the information that is covered in the course – a case of someone totally over-delivering on a product. He really should be charging more for it – seriously.

I am an experienced internet marketer and I learned some things that I am going to implement that I am sure are going to make a positive difference in my business. If you are experienced, this is for you, but if you are new, this program is an absolute must! This is one of those rare programs that if put into practice will deliver on its promises.

So how much does Wordpress Authority cost? You can try it for 7 days for just $7 – seven bucks! If you want to keep it, just a one-time charge of $50 after that – not monthly – just once. Totally worth it in my book.

So again, is it any good and does he deliver on that claim? In a word – Yes.

I hope you found this Wordpress Authority review useful because I really believe it’s a great product. If you buy through my affiliate link, I am going to give you a bonus you can’t get anywhere else – I’m coming out with my own ClickBank product this August and I will give you exclusive free access to it it two weeks before launch – but only if you buy through my link and send me a copy of your ClickBank receipt to admin [at] mmoneyonline.com. This is your chance to get in before a launch – who knows – maybe I’ll even use your testimonials on my sales page!

A while back when I was still fairly new to the “make money online” game, I wrote a post about what to blog about to make money. It was an okay post with some decent advice, but now that I have some authority under my belt, I want to give those that are new the business of how to make money online.
First off…you should stay away from making blogs like this one. I am serious. The “make money online” arena is stacked with people who have been doing this for a while and you are not likely to find a ton of success – especially if you don’t have a track record. I know, I know – you really are interested in how to make money online and now that you know how to set up a blog, you can teach others how to do it too and then talk about content and SEO.
But everyone and their brother is doing it – including me. I don’t make most of my money from this blog – this is just kind of a hitching post for me. Most of my money is made from other niches – man I hate that word. [...]

I used to think of a niche as something really specific, but it has gotten so diluted that a category is now called a niche. But alas, I will sucumb to the IM industry and refer to categories as niches.

Okay, off on a tanget, let’s get back to what to blog about to make money. Now that we have come to the realization that you shouldn’t blog about how to make money online (right?), what should you blog about? Well, if you’ve already picked a “niche” – then you should have an idea and should be blogging on a consistent basis.

If you aren’t – why not? My bet is that you picked a niche that you’ve got no real interest in – you’re not personally invested in the subject matter pertaining to your niche. So how are you supposed to write convincing commentary on the products or services related to that niche?

I have been there and done that and I tell you it is nothing but work! It is laborious work and that isn’t what I got into internet marketing to do. Don’t get me wrong – I work, but I try to work as smart as I can and for me, that means writing about things that I am interested in.

I’ve got a ton of websites about things that I don’t have interest in too and do well with them – but that’s because I outsource the work to have someone do the drudgery for me. Unfortunately for many people though, outsourcing isn’t in the budget. A lot of people find themselves looking to make money online because they are already on a tight budget and need extra money. Does this ring true for you?

If it does, I suggest you start your internet marketing career based around a “niche” that you enjoy – something you already or really want to participate in. When you do this, your writing is genuine and your words ring true with the readers. You will gain respect and authority within your niche and when it comes time to recommend a product to your readers, they will be happy to buy because they trust you.

Build upon that and try to be the best you can in your niche and you will go far.

Thank for reading, even I could have summed up what to blog about to make money in one sentence:

Write about something you love, and you can make money online.

And you can take that to the bank!

I have come across quite a few rants on various forums about WordPress with the poster asking why there is such a love affair with WordPress. Well, I am going to lay down the reasons why WordPress is so good and why you, especially if you are an internet marketer should be using WordPress too.

This site, like most of mine is based on the WordPress platform. A few years ago I ran across WordPress while looking for another way to get a website online. I had been using FrontPage, but since I had chucked my PC and opted for a Mac, FrontPage was no longer a viable option. Luckily I found WordPress and although I have tip-toed into the waters of other platforms, I keep running back to WordPress. I am not going to disparage any other platform, but instead simply why I like WordPress.

Quick Installation – WordPress was never that difficult to install (going back to the “Famous 5 Minute Install” days), but it has become more than a breeze. Someone with no experience installing a website (assuming they can simply log into their cpanel and click on Fantastico De Luxe) can have a WordPress site up in not time flat. I don’t know about you, but I like simple, especially when it comes to what is generally considered “technical stuff.” No need to be a techy to use WordPress.

Easy Design Options – Themes, themes, themes. Sure regular html sites have tons of templates available, but the integration of themes with the WordPress back-end allows for such quick changes and easy editing. Want to switch from a single column to a no column – two column- three column – right column – left column – pink theme – silver theme – blue theme – no problem, just pick your theme, click activate and your theme is changed. With all of the free and paid themes out there, your design options are vast.

Easy Editing and Publishing – With a simple visual and html editor, WordPress is so easy to use when creating and publishing content. No need to ftp it – just click publish and you are done. Easily change your page or post without having to open up additional software. This might be a minor point to many, but once again – I like easy. People who are not computer savvy like easy too, and this is why WordPress is ideal for many people.

Pictures and Video – Wordpress makes it easy to a picture to a post and place it within the text, adjust the size, tag it, hyperlink it – all just very simple. Adding videos is a snap too. These functions do have their issues, but I notice a progression in usability as upgrades occur. Sooner or later, they will have all the options you need to fully customize images and videos from directly within your WordPress panel.

Plugins! – Plugins are probably the single biggest reason why WordPress is so popular. The sheer number of plugins that give your website additional functionality is staggering. From super simple things like tag clouds to complex functions like pulling content from around the web there are plugins for just about every need. Can these things be accomplished with an html site? Sure, but they can’t be done from a single point platform. I can add plugins from within WordPress and not have to worry about uploading anything and wondering if I am going to have to create a new folder, or put it in an existing one – easy. (Yes, some plugins require you to add files to the root directory, but most don’t)

SEO – You hear all the time that Google loves WordPress – I can’t say that is the case one way or another, but WordPress is easy to optimize for the search engines. There are plugins, and even some themes have functions to help you easily optimize your site for the search engines.

The WordPress Community – The WordPress community is huge. If you need help with a WordPress problem, you will be able to find an answer. From the WordPress.org forum to a simple Google search, you will find people out there that can help you with your WordPress issues. While you might be able to find your answer for other platforms, you are likely to find your answer faster and find more up to date information when it is a WordPress issue.

Future Development – The fine folks at WordPress seem to be committed to the long-term success of the WordPress platform. I don’t think it will be going away any time soon and if you want some corroboration, check out this video of Matt Mullenweg at WordCamp San Francisco earlier this month here.

I like WordPress and will continue to recommend to anyone interested in blogging. Is it perfect? No, but it is perfectly simple to use, looks good, functions good, and if you ever have a problem, there are people who can help you to fix it.

‘Nuff said.

Have you seen this: TrafficRockstars.com ? I don’t check out everything that lands in my inbox, but it came from a trusted source so I decided to take a look. While I don’t know what the total end product will result in, I have to say that the premise of this product is intriguing and has tremendous promise in many different internet marketing niches.
TrafficRockstars.com is going to be putting on a virtual internet marketing convention with more than 20 internet marketing superstars (gurus). Here is a rundown of the participants:

Ryan Deiss, Mike Hill, Ryan Ringold, Amit Mehta, Jeff Walker, Mike Filsaime, Brad Fallon,Jeff Johnson, Jonathan Mizel, Yanik Silver, Kevin Wilke, Leslie Rohde, Dan Thies, Dr. Mike, Howie Schwartz, Donna Fox, Charlie Page, Tom Antion, Jon Benson, Dustin Struckman, Jimmy Sweeney, AM Khan
That’s quite a line-up, but what I really found interesting is the method in which this virtual internet marketing convention will utilize. You’ve no doubt seen those virtual sales people on sales pages – you know, the animated one that tell you about the product? This has something very much akin to that…but much cooler! It appears that you will be able to virtually walk the halls of the convention and interact with the participants – able to ask the gurus questions and review information at the expo. I hope you have done your homework, because this is the part where we are going to bring it all together and get you making money.
Insert Advertising
Hopefully by now you’ve gotten your site up, loaded up some content and gotten approved for a few affiliate networks. If you’ve done that – awesome job! Next you are going to insert the advertising. There really are a ton of ways to do this, but I am going to offer up a few easy ways to have professional looking ads included in your site. Remember that the style we are going for with this method is that you and your site are portrayed as an authority on a given topic. As the authority, you’ve discussed products that you use in your given area of expertise. You are going to recommend individual products and either supply a text link, or a picture link. As mentioned before, you should test this out and see which gives you the best results – it really will depend on what you are promoting.

Let’s say I was interested in watches and wanted to talk about a specific brand – Oris. I would definitely use a picture ad as I am talking about something that is very visual as higher-end watches definitely have a strong aesthetic component, so showing the product makes a lot of sense. Here are two different ad formats that I might use:

AMAZON.COM AFFILIATE AD EXAMPLE

null
If you signed up for the Amazon.com affiliate program, you have immediate access to the widgets section where you can create an ad widget like the one above and customize it to suit your needs.

POPSHOPS AFFILIATE AD EXAMPLE The above is an add from Buy.com through the Commission Junction affiliate program. I used PopShops.com to create the ad box. You can open up a PopShops account for free! They do have paid options if you need more than one store, but you can simply start out with one and see how it goes from there. Both of the above options allow you to create stores which would be multiple items on a single page, but I need to caution you against just throwing up a storefront to make money as that usually is not a winning proposition unless you’ve got a ton of traffic and built some brand recognition – that is why you start out here and grow! However, this doesn’t mean you can’t integrate a store within your website as a separate page (don’t make it your homepage) with lots of products. After I recommend the above Oris watch, I could write something like:

“I love this watch, but Oris makes a lot of cool watches to fit just about any taste. Take a look at this Oris watch page I created and look at all of the different options they have to choose from.”

That isn’t really a hyperlink, but if it were it would link to my page that looked like this:

GOLDENCAN AFFILIATE STORE EXAMPLE

The above store is from the site GoldenCan.com and you can make dozens of stores like that – all free. They do take every fourth click for most of the merchants, but it is a small price to pay for the great service that they provide.

As you can see, you have great free options that look good and can be extremely effective if used properly. There a quite a few paid options as well, but I am trying to get you going with as little out-of-pocket cost as possible. If your business takes off and you need a more robust application with more options, then I would recommend you check out Datafeedr – it is a great program.

Driving Traffic

This is of course the biggest issue for everyone starting out a new website. First of all, I want to say that you need to stay away from those services that send xxxx amount of traffic for a set amount of money. That traffic is known in the industry as junk traffic for a reason. Junk traffic can have its uses, but mostly for gray/blackhat purposes. If you are going to pay for traffic, you should do it through Adsense. Be careful though, Adsense is a money-sucking hole if you don’t know what you are doing.

So what about free traffic? This is where I think you should start and if you are diligent, you will see visitors and you will start making sales without paying a dime. So how do you get this free traffic? You again need to think like a buyer – or maybe let me stretch this out – more like a participant in the area of which your website is based upon. What do I mean? If you are interested in coin collecting – what kind of sites might you visit? Well, Ebay for sure to check out coins for sale. But what if you wanted to interact with other coin collectors to talk about coins? There is a not so secret source of traffic that savvy marketers use to make a very good living from – and that is forums. Forums are a great source if income – I have made a lot of money from forums and definitely feel it is one of the best places for a new marketer to start. If you want to find a good forum, you can visit Big-Boards.com and find a lot of different forums. Of course you can simply do a Google search with your website subject and the word “forum” next to it and you will be easily able to find a lot of great forums.

So what do you do if you find these forums – how do you make money. Opportunities will come in several forms, but one of the easiest ones is to utilize a signature with a link to your site. Not all forums allow signatures, so make sure you find some that do. People in theses forums are interested in the subject, so the traffic is targeted. Targeted traffic is what you need. One million non-buying visitors is not worth one buying visitor – that’s the simple truth. Get your link in front of people interested in your subject, and you will get traffic. If your information is of good quality, you will find your site having repeat visitors – more opportunities for them to click on your links and buy a product.

I guarantee that somebody is going to read this and say that the forum method doesn’t work. I guarantee that they don’t know what they are talking about. The fact is this is not that easy, because you need to be active in order to get your site in front of a lot eyeballs by doing a lot of good quality posts that add value to the forum. But continue to do it and you will see results.

Another thing that people do when promoting in forums is to PM people when they say they are looking for something. Make sure this is not against the TOS of the forum though. An example would be that you are on a Hummel figurine collecting forum and someone is looking for a particular figurine. You could PM them and tell them how much you like that figurine too. Let them know you have a Hummel figurine site and that you sometimes run into hard to come by items and that you’d keep an eye out for the item. Ask them if they wouldn’t mind stopping by your site and letting you know what they think of it. This will of course get a visitor, but if they find items that they like, they will be very likely to click on the pictures and maybe buy through your affiliate link.

Forums are just one part of your overall traffic strategy – but an important part – don’t skip it. More traffic can be obtained from other interactive sites such as blogs related to your topic, yahoo groups, Twitter, and Facebook groups. There are tons of ways to get targeted traffic. The trick is to get in front of people and interact – don’t act like a big ad for your site. Interact as someone who is interested in the topic, and “oh yeah, I love xyz topic so much I started my own site”…..you get the picture?

Do the above things and you will get traffic. Most people won’t – that is why they will fail. There is no real secret to traffic – it takes focus and action. Focus on the above methods and take action and you will drive traffic to your site – 100% guaranteed.

Ongoing Maintenance

Ongoing maintenance is important, but very simple. You need to check your site from other computers and browsers to make sure it looks okay, keep your WordPress plugins up to date, continue to post to related blogs-forums-Twitter-Facebook, and most importantly you need to continue to add new content to make your site interesting and continue to climb in the search engine rankings.

New content is the most important thing that you need do in terms of maintenance and you should add new content on a weekly basis. The search engines love new, unique content and this will help you to get higher rankings in the search engines which will result in more “organic” traffic which is traffic that will come without having to do any direct promotion. This is what you want to work towards, but it does not come overnight. Keep it up though – the benefits are incredible.

Summing It Up

That is it in a rather long nutshell. I left out a ton of stuff.

Build Site

Create content

Join affiliate networks

You should assume that any link within this post might be an affiliate link for which I might receive compensation.

Building Your Site

Have you completed the steps in part 1 yet? If not – go and do them, then come back here Alright, the next thing you are going to do is build your site. If you are technically challenged, this may seem like a really difficult thing to do – but it’s not. As I mentioned before, you will be using WordPress to build your site. What you need to do first is install WordPress using Fantastico – here is a video from HostingTutorials.com on how to use Fantastico. Once you watch that, you will see how incredibly easy it is to get your site up and running. If you are still too nervous to do it yourself, I might be able to give you some-one-on one help – go here for more information.

Wordpress is a blog platform that can be configured in many different ways. The primary reason that we will be using it is that there are so many great options out there to customize WordPress – and man of them are absolutely free! Free is good - right?

So what you are going to do is start familiarizing yourself with your new Wordpress back-end. There are tons of free tutorials out there to help you get started. You will need to know how to change your theme, put up a post, and add plugins. There are a lot of other things to learn, but with those basics, we can get started.

So once you’ve played around a bit in the WordPress dashboard, you are now ready to pick a theme. Don’t take up too much time because many of you will end up changing the theme anyway. A quick guideline for you is that you should pick a theme with a single side-bar and is somewhat wide – 840-1100 pixels in total width (you aren’t likely to find those exact sizes – they are simply parameters). The reason that you want a decent width is that you want enough width to make sure that when your site is displaying products, they won’t be/look squished.

Don’t buy a theme – at least not until you have started to make money with your initial site. There are too many great free themes out there that are fully customizable that there is no need to buy a theme if you are just starting out. Just look through the themes under “Add New Themes” in “Appearance” in your WordPress dashboard. If you want to look at a few themes that I like to use on sites, you can look at the free themes found at http://wpthemes.info, http://themehybrid.com, http://themes.bavotasan.com, and http://heatmaptheme.com – most of these have paid themes as well, but the free ones are top-notch. Some of these also have paid support forums – this is well worth the money if you want to stick with a theme and get help from the creator and community.

Okay, once you have put up a theme that you like, we can move on to the next step. Oh, and by the way, you are almost guaranteed going to change your theme – so this was an exercise to show you how easy it is to change themes and to have something in the back of you mind as the rest of the site comes together and you decide on the final design.

Creating Content

I mentioned before that for now, all you have to really know how to do is change the theme (hope you just did that), utilize plugins, and put up a post. The plugins will come later – right now you need to tackle adding a post.

Your posts are actually the very most important part of you site as it will constitute what is referred to as the “content.” Your content is what is going to separate your site from others and will be of vital importance in gaining traffic to your site. Your content needs to to be unique – meaning there are not exact duplicates of what you are posting on your site already existing on other sites. The best way to accomplish this is to write the content yourself. This is why it is so vitally important that you picked a subject you are interested in. If you are wondering why I said write the content yourself, it is because many people will use PLR – or private label content. Basically they are just existing articles that on particular subjects that are resold over and over again. People buy these article because writing is time consuming. Don’t fall for the trap of PLR – write it yourself. If you take a look back at this sites posts over the last year – they are essentially PLR and my site suffered a loss of “authority” in the search engines. Why? Because what I was allowing to be published on my site was available at lots of different sites all over the web – I didn’t have anything special. Let me be as clear as possible – if you cannot take the time to write the content yourself – you will not be successful at this.

You will put new content up on your site by creating a post. Creating a post is exactly what I am doing right now – typing in the post editor in the back-end of WordPress. When you are in there, you will notice a lot of options. Over time, familiarize yourself with all of it, but for now all you want to do is start putting in your content under “Posts” → ”Add New” in your WordPress dashboard, proof-read your content, and then publish.

So what does your content need to consist of? It is an extremely simple thing, but so many people miss it. I know I did for so long even though it is common sense. You need to provide information that solves a problem – or at least attempts to provide solutions to a given problem. Let me go back to to my previous example of dog collars. If I know quite a bit about choke collars and their proper use in dog training, a could write an article (or series like this 3 part one) on how to properly use choke chains. Inserted throughout or at the end of the article would be statements such as “I only recommend insert product name here choke chains” and either provide a link to a site that sells dog chains that you are an affiliate of, or insert pictures ads that are linked to a site that sell dog collars. Something like this:

If you are going to train your dog using a choke chain, I only recommend TopDawg Pet Supply’s C Titan choke chains. I think they provide the best control while not hurting your dog. The best place I have found to get these chains at the best price is Buy.com – here’s a direct link to the collar I recommend:

Don’t concern yourself with how I created that little ad box – it is super simple and we will cover that next time around.

Now, you will want to put your own spin on this and use your own wording. The better you can make your sales copy sound, and the more that you have come across as an authority on the subject, the more likely your readers are to click on the link and potentially buy your recommended product.

Does this make sense though? You need to provide solutions to a need – not just write about a product – that really is lame and the internet is full of people doing that. Provide people with information they can use, position yourself as an authority, and people will buy through your links. Can’t you just put up a site full of links without all the written content and make money? The answer is yes, but let me ask you – how good are you at driving traffic to a website? You want to start out with just a storefront type site? You better be able to generate a ton of traffic or be able to rank above Amazon. Wouldn’t it be easier to bring people to your site and then as their “friend” refer them to Amazon and make a commission when they buy something?

Start off with the authority type of site – if you can provide people with a solution to their wants/needs – you will be able to generate income.

I am going to repeat myself in another way here, but this is so that you understand how important your content is and why it will make or break your money making abilities online.

You could simply start writing about your subject, but a more intelligent way to approach it would be to do a little bit of research and find out about what subjects people are looking for so that you can provide solutions to their problems. Use resources like the top Amazon listings in a category, eBay Pulse, or even better – visit forums on your subject. You will be using forums later in this series, so join a couple of subject related forums now.

People always have questions, leaving aside pornography and Facebook, obtaining information is what people use the Internet for. They are looking for solutions to make their life easier. While that may seem simplistic – it is – so don’t make it complicated. Provide solutions and you will make money.

Let’s say for example, your site is about car care. Lot’s of people out there want to know how to best take care of their car and they are confused by all the different car wax formulas available. You could write about car waxing and its importance to the longevity of your car’s paint or just how it makes it look good (this could be one, or several articles), you can write articles on all of the detailing aspects of car care, fuel additives, etc. - giving a thorough rundown in each article explaining the processes you go through in the care of your car and in some or all of the articles you could talk about how you’ve tried products x,y, and z – and how product x gave you the best results – of course you’d have a courteous little link to make it easy for the reader to find more information and perhaps make a purchase. Unlike the example above, I would just include my affiliate link in the text of the article like this:

I have used a lot of different car wax formulas and I have found that Zymol Z503 works the best – you can check it out here.

You can make your links any number of ways including ads (like the first example), clickable pictures, hyperlinks like the one above or a combination. The way you do it will have to depend on your style and what “looks” appropriate. Don’t be afraid to ask friends or family to take a look and see which they feel is more user friendly. You should also try switching it up on your site and see which way gets more clicks. This is testing, and as an internet marketer, you need to get in the habit of testing your sites because a small change on your site could make a huge change in your income.

To re-cap what you need to do as far as providing content – it is quite simple. Provide reviews or solutions to people and mention associated products for which you will have affiliate links inserted in your content.

What’s that? You don’t have affiliate links? No problem – we will cover that next.

Joining Affiliate Networks

In order to have affiliate links, you need to be an affiliate. For the purposes of this type of website, I am going to recommend that you join on the following affiliate networks: Amazon.com, Linkshare, Commission Junction, ShareASale, Pepperjam Network, and Ebay Partner Network. These “networks” as they are referred to are going to give you access (combined) to millions of products – no kidding – millions of which you can choose to promote. Below are links to each of the sites – I will caution you though, that you should actually put up a site with some content before applying to these companies. I think the easiest ones to get into will be Amazon, LinksShare, Commission Junction, and ShareASale. If you need to get accepted right away, you might want to indicate on your application that you are going to do e-mail marketing – but I recommend you just get your site going as soon as possible. Think about it this way, if you have a blank site – no one is going to go to it – even if you do have ads – nobody is there to click on them anyway. Get some content on your site – then you apply.

Links to recommended affiliate programs:

Click here to become an Amazon.com Affiliate Residents of certain states are not eligible

Click here to become a Commission Junction Affiliate

Click here to become a ShareASale Affiliate

Click here to become a Pepperjam Network Publisher Page takes a little bit to load

Click here to become an eBay Partner Network Affiliate

Next week, we will cover part 3. For now you have homework – very important homework. Get your site up and get content on there. Turn it into a resource that someone could gain some valuable knowledge from. Even if you only have one article – make sure it is a good one….then work on another and another.

Even thought this is a long post, there is a lot that I have left out – so ask if you don’t understand something and I will do my best to get you a clear answer.

Part 1

Determine Product/Category

**Read entire step before taking any action**

Your product or category is often referred to as the “niche.” I gave you homework (if you read the last post) which was to figure out 3-5 things that you are interested in that does not involve sitting in front of the computer. Basically – your hobbies that are not internet related. Why not internet related? Because I do not want you to start by trying to make a site around digital products – I want your site to be based upon physical products for two reasons:

The perceived value of digital products is much less than that of a physical product – one less hurdle to overcome when you are just starting.

The return rate of digital products can be quite high – much less in the physically delivered product world. You don’t need added discouragement when starting out.

So if you haven’t figure out 3-5 areas of interest yet – do it now before continuing.

You need some ideas?

Golf, knitting, cooking, reading, pets, toys, boating, exercising, collectibles, electronics, guitar, kites, shoes, handbags, electronics, hand tools, gardening – you get the idea. I want you to pick a hobby or area of interest that has associated items that you could go to the store or find on Amazon.com and buy right now.

Once you have picked out 3-5 areas of interest, I want you to seriously think about which one you have the most knowledge in, and are most interested in. Unlike a lot of other marketers who will tell you that you just need to pick a hot market and you don’t need to know anything about it, I will tell you from personal experience that when you are starting out – pick something you are interested in and something that you know a whole lot of other people are interested in. Your entrance in the world of internet marketing will be a lot more fun if you choose a topic you are actually interested in. Pick something you have no interest in and this will become work – trust me.

Now that you have picked your top item, I want you to go to Amazon.com and type in your broad search term (the hobby you are interested in) – and see what kind of items it returns. Are there a wide variety of items? Did it show you items that you as someone interested in that hobby might want to buy? If not, you will need to figure that one out. Why aren’t there many items listed related to your chosen hobby? Maybe you chose “cockroach racing” as your hobby – if so, this is where you are going to have to put your thinking cap on and figure if that is something a whole lot of other people are interested in. If you think your market will be very limited, drop that one and go onto the next “best” one on your list and repeat the process till you find a good one – make a bigger list if necessary.

Once you have chosen your topic (we will use dogs for our example) you will then need to start your keyword research – this is where you are going to dig down deep and find the niche you are going after.

Keyword Research

This is often overlooked – or just plain skipped by many new to internet marketing, but it is absolutely essential that you do it. I am going to give you a brief tutorial on how to do it for the purposes of this method. This is not keyword research for your content, but for the overall “tone” of your site. Do this right from the beginning and things will go a lot better for you. I recommend you browse through (and use) the free tools that I link to in my article on keyword research for more in-depth information on keyword research.

So I said I am interested in dogs, but just thinking about consumer habits, do people just go and pick up a dog at the store on a regular basis? No, that is usually a big decision for a person to make – and I don’t think you can buy a dog on Amazon.com – at least I hope not. Besides, when I look at Google’s keyword tool, I notice that there are 37,200,000 monthly searches that include the word “dogs” – that means that there are also a whole lot of websites out there with the word “dogs” in it – much too broad a category for me. However, I know from doing a little research into my niche that pet owners spend a lot of money on their pets – an estimated $45.5 Billion according to the American Pet Products Association – that looks like a big market that I might just be able to get a little slice of the pie from. So I think about dogs and the products associated with them, and I am absolutely fascinated with dog collars – not really – but I am very interested in dogs and dog behavior. The collar chosen can make a big impact and I know something about dog collars – so I am choosing this as my “niche.” So I go back to the Google keyword tool and put in the search term “dog collars” – which returns a list of search terms – those would be all the ones listed under:

BREAKAWAYCOLLARS.COM CHAINDOGCOLLARS.COM CHOKEDOGCOLLARS.COM CUTEDOGCOLLAR.COM DAISYDOGCOLLAR.COM DESIGNERLEATHERDOGCOLLARS.COM DOGCHAINCOLLARS.COM DOGHARNESSESLEATHER.COM DOGLEADSCOLLARS.COM DOGLEASHLEATHER.COM DOGMARTINGALECOLLARS.COM HOLIDAYDOGCOLLAR.COM LEATHERSTUDDEDDOGCOLLARS.COM LUPINEDOGCOLLAR.COM NYLONDOGLEASH.COM PERSONALIZEDLEATHERDOGCOLLAR.COM PINKLEATHERDOGCOLLARS.COM PREPPYDOGCOLLARS.COM ROLLEDLEATHERCOLLARS.COM SHOWDOGCOLLARS.COM

Then I copy and paste keyword domains into the Google keyword tool once again – removing the .com and making spaces between the words and I get even more results which I run through GoDaddy’s bulk register tool and these are the best ones it returned:

ADJUSTABLENYLONDOGCOLLAR.COM DOGBLINGCOLLARS.COM DOGCOLLARGOLD.COM DOGLEASHESCOLLARS.COM DOGNAMECOLLAR.COM DOGNYLONCOLLARS.COM ROLLEDDOGCOLLAR.COM SPIKEDPINKDOGCOLLAR.COM

I first thought of going with DogLeashLeather.com from the first group which which has a broad keyword match of 18,100 searches per month, but after reviewing the second group, I found DogLeashesCollars.com which has 60,500 searches a month – that is a good domain. Now just a note, some will say that an exact match is what matters most for the domain and this may be true, but it is increasingly difficult to find these – broad matches do work!

So quickly, what was all that work for? You want a domain name that is as close as possible to a popular search term for your particular niche. If you do this from the beginning, it will be a lot easier to rank higher in Google for that search term.

Acquire Domain and Hosting

This is a very simple process – many of you will have already done this, but for those that haven’t – this is all you have to do:

Follow the above steps to find the domain name that you want and you can purchase it with your hosting package or if you want to grab the domain by itself if you aren’t ready for hosting, then purchase your domain from www.GoDaddy.com or www.NameCheap.com.

If you are ready for hosting, just go to www.HostGator.com (trust me on HostGator) and get your hosting. If you are nervous about this and want someone to walk you through it via skype of Yahoo Messenger, I might be able to help (click here) – but you’d have to contact me before you purchase your hosting. All you need is the “Baby Plan” which you can pay the full year upfront, or pay monthly.

Now you have your domain and hosting – it will take a day or so for your domain to propagate – which just means even if you put your site up, you wouldn’t see it on the internet right away.

While you are waiting for step 2, familiarize yourself with your c-panel – it may like difficult, but it really isn’t. You will not use many of the features, but some of them will make your life so much more simple – especially when it comes time to put up your site which will be a Wordpress blog – if you don’t know about that – you can read up on it at WordPress.org – don’t download it though – there will be no need for that.

That’s it for now. You may have a lot of questions – please feel free to ask below and I will do my best to answer your questions.

People are constantly looking for easy ways to make money online – looking for that silver bullet, err, button that they can push and have their computer start spewing out cash. If you are one of those people – let me ask you a very simple question:

If you had a way to make money, where you just pressed a button and you made $X,XXX per day – would you sell that method to others?

Of course not, unless you aren’t very bright (or maybe you’re just an overly generous person). What you would do instead is make more of those buttons and press away keeping all that money to yourself – wouldn’t you? After all if you sold that button to others, it might not work as well and your money might start to disappear. Yet there are so many claims out there about push-button this, and autopilot that – what a load of BS!

The sad fact is that there are lots of people out there selling snake oil and they are all too ready and willing to take your money by selling you the “dream” of how to make money online. Usually most of those “programs” are garbage, but even then, they typically contain some tiny tidbits of information that if put to use could result in you making money online. Don’t get me wrong, there are some fantastic programs out there – however, they are far an few between. Sadly, even when people do find the good e-books or the good e-courses they simply put them on their virtual shelf like a lot do with physical books – sitting there looking pretty – never to be read. Or maybe they do read it, but no action is taken. Pity.

I used to be a browser – someone who was always looking through my e-mails from the gurus for that special program that might be my magic bullet. Always lurking in the forums – waiting to see if someone was going to share some magical piece of information or method that was going to change my financial life. The sad thing when I look back is that I realize how much further ahead of the game I could have been if I had implemented that one magical thing that I did hear about in books and forums every once in a while – but ignored. That one incredible thing that would make all the difference, and I am about to share that one thing with you. That one simple thing is action. You may be disappointed that this magical thing is a single word buried in long paragraph, but that single word will determine whether you will be a success or a failure in internet marketing. Don’t believe me? Think there is something else that you just might discover if you buy the next great e-product that comes out? Sorry, but I am right – you now have the key.

But what exactly are you supposed to act on? Don’t I need to give you a road-map? Well, no, but I am going to do just that. The map will basic, but will provide you with all the direction that you need to start to make money online – but only if you act on it. Most people will not. They will simply read it (if they go that far) and not do anything and then cry about how it doesn’t work – NO! – they don’t work and that is why they will never get anywhere in internet marketing. You on the other hand are different, you’ve made a decision to be a doer and you are going to act on what I tell you to do and you will make money.

A Method To Make Money Online

I am going to break this up into three parts starting with my next post. I am going to give you actionable steps that you can take. This method is not going to make you rich – but if you aren’t making any money online right now, it will start you off in the right direction. This method is not hard, but it does require time, effort, and dedication – just like all internet marketing. The others who say internet marketing doesn’t take work are liars or scammers – period! This method does not require a lot of money – about $20 to start and $10 a month for hosting (you don’t need to give any of it to me either). The method is scalable – which simply means that you can do it over and over again to make more money – adding onto your initial efforts.

If this sounds like something you want to do, just follow along during the next three posts and make sure to take action. If you do, you will make money.

For now, I am going to give you some simple homework. I want you to think about three to five things that you are interested in – hobbies, etc. and it cannot include “making money online” or any derivation of that. Write these things down on a notepad next to your computer. Make changes if necessary. I don’t know what you are interested in, but here are some examples of things you might write down: Photography, wine, coin collecting, memorabilia (many types), action figures, porcelain dolls, stereo equipment, big screen televisions, gardening, guitars, drums, handbags, shoes, power tools – you get the idea – things that you are interested in that involve more than just sitting in front of your computer.

The first part of the “method” will be up by Friday.

Find out how easy it is to get paid more for click from your Adsense ads. Increase your Adsense earnings and learn to find the keywords that pay the most.

I don’t run Adsense on this site, but I have a bunch in which I do and ever since I started optimizing them, my Adsense income has skyrocketed. Here is a method I have used with great success to improve the amount of earnings I received from sites that I run Adsense on. For some people, optimizing for Adsense is quite obvious, but for others who might be new to the world of IM, optimizing your content to improve the amount you are getting paid for your Adsense clicks might not be that obvious. Most people just slap an Adsense ad block up and pray someone clicks on it. On top of that, many people think that 5 cents a click is normal and are happy when they get an 80 cent click – “Awesome!” Many don’t know that you can consistently target higher paying clicks. I regularly target my content to receive clicks of more than $2 – if you are going to run Adsense – why not go for bigger numbers eh?

Okay, we are going to assume that you have a site that you are getting traffic to – if you don’t – stop reading this and start working on improving your site and driving traffic to it (you can sign up for my free course to learn how to do this). But back to optimization. This is by no means the “ultimate” method and it will not always receive high paying clicks – but most of your clicks will be high paying and your Adsense income will increase tremendously over what you were previously getting if you weren’t optimizing.

Let’s start with content. Adsense is contextual advertising which means it will show ads relevant to what content you have on your site/article. Let me give an insurance site as an example because the large numbers will drive home the point. Specifically, you are going to write an article on “car insurance.” You are going to have an ad block imbeded in the content – probably 250×250 upper-left like seen in the picture to the left.

Side Note: This is just a sample layout that works well for me, but you should try different ad blocks over time to see what works best for you. Change the size and the font colors to see if click through rates improve or decrease – because the changes do make a difference – this is all part of optimization.

Now “car insurance” is already a pretty good paying keyword. How much does it pay? I can’t tell you exactly, but I can tell you what Google says people will pay for ads that target the keyword phrase “car insurance” – at the time of this writing, people/companies are paying on average – $14.82 for the keyword phrase “car insurance” to be in Google’s Adwords listings. Of course you ain’t gonna get anywhere near that for people clicking on ads on your page, but you will likely receive more than $1 per click and sometimes you get lucky and will get a couple of bucks for a single click. That is pretty darn good and most people would love to have that kind of pay per click…but why not take it to the next level? How about targeting a higher paying keyword phrase? A closely related phrase to “car insurance” is “find car insurance” – a keyword phrase which commands $38.70 per click on average – yikes – I’d hate to be competing for clicks on that keyword. However, I’d love to have my Adsense ads based on that keyword as the amount I receive per click is likely to be higher than “car insurance.”

So what I do is write my article targeting “find car insurance” while being sure not to “stuff” my content with my keyword. If you stuff it, Google may just ignore your content as it is seen as spam content. Write good content and use a simple rule like 5 paragraphs to the article and 4 instances of the keyword. So long as your article is somewhere around 500 words give or take 100 either way you should be fine. However, if you want to take it to the next level, you can use a keyword density optimization tool to test your content which you can find right here: keyword density tool . You also might want to read up on latent semantic indexing (LSI) which is a fancy way of saying put other words in your content that support your keywords. This hasn’t made a big difference in my experience, but some people swear by it.

edit: This is important, I went back to review the article and left out a key point – I even changed the title – and that is the key point – the title. Make sure your title includes the keyword phrase for maximum benefit – preferably as the first part of the title. For instance, if I were targeting the keyword phrase “buy dog collar online” I might do a title like “Buy Dog Collar Online – What You Need To Know To Get The Best Deal” – wordy and gramatically incorrect, but if you’ve been paying attention, there are more things on the internet that are gramatically incorrect than correct – so no biggy. While I am editing this too, if you are using Wordpress, you can use the “All In One SEO” plugin and use a different title targeting another keyword along with a description that targets other keywords – this simply gives your article more targeted keywords.

I guess I still haven’t told you how to find these keywords yet though. Simple, just go to Google’s keyword tool:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Type in your base keyword (what your article is going to be based on, or what your site is based on) and do a basic search. You will receive a bunch of keywords returned and now you need choose to display the column that show CPC (cost per click) as seen in this picture:

The results will then display what is being paid per click for the top spots for specific keywords. Click “Estimated Avg. CPC” twice to arrange the results highest to lowest and you will see something like this:

Then all you need to do is pick your keywords accordingly.

Do this search on a number of different keywords and you will notice a huge disparity in what keywords command – you’ll notice many are only .05 – what do you think you’ll be paid on that? You need to target keywords if you want to get more than pennies a month from Adsense.

As stated before, this is not necessarily the optimal way to do this, but it is an effective and easy way to find the higher paying keywords without having to buy expensive tools.

If you have another way, or any tweaks to this method, or if you have any questions, please share your thoughts with the group
