FOR GLOBE USERS

For a list of compatible MMS & GPRS handsets, send NOKIA, ERICSSON or SAMSUNG (depending on your handset model) to 2365.

Note: Regular text messaging charges will apply.

To get your phone's settings, text GO (handset model) to 2951. Example, GO N3650. (For a list of compatible handsets, do as instructed above)

Note: For Nokia 6220, 6600, and 6820, text GO (handset model),,1234 and send to 2951. Make sure to type in the two commas before the 1234 PIN.

Enter 1234 when asked for PIN to save settings.

Send an MMS message for only P5.00 to activate the service.

FOR SMART USERS

Setting up of MMS and GPRS handsets:
To download 3G/MMS/GPRS settings, key in SET <phone model> to 211. to get supported brands, key in SET LIST and send to 211

Activating SMART MMS and GPRS:

Hmm... opo. Pero may maliit na pagkakaiba lang pagdating sa Jailbreak at Hack.
Sa android kasi, hindi mo na kailangan pang mag root para makapag install ng games at applications na hindi galing sa Android Market (Jailbreak) at hindi mo na rin kailangang mag root para makapag install ng games at applications na hindi signed ng sarili mong certificate / digital signature (Hack).
Pumunta sa settings -> applications -> at lagyan ng check ang Unknown Sources.

Mawawala ba ang warranty ko pag nag root?

Technically, yes. Kung babasahin mo kasi yung warranty statement / letter, nakasaad doon na hindi covered ng warranty ang pagkasira ng iyong unit ng dahil sa "unauthorized modification" o "improper installation of applications".

Eh 'di ibig sabihin, madaling malaman ng technician kung naka-root ka?

Normal lang po na umiinit ang battery habang naka-charge o habang ginagamit. Kapag ginamit mo habang naka-charge, mas lalong iinit yung phone.

Pero maiba tayo. Ok lang ba na gumamit ng Task Killer?

Para sa akin, hindi na kailangan ng Task Killer. Gaya ng Windows, may sariling pamamaraan ang Android sa pag manage ng RAM.
Mas maigi na lang na i-freeze or alisin yung mga apps na hindi natin kailangan / ginagamit.
Ingat lang po sa pagtanggal ng system apps at baka magloko ang iyong phone.

Eh Anti-Virus?

Kung maingat ka naman sa paglipat ng files mo, hindi mo na siguro kailangan nito. Pero kung marami namang RAM ang iyong phone at kung sigurista ka, wala akong nakikitang problema kung maglalagay ka ng AV.

Cabir
Founded: June 2004
Target: Symbian cell phones type 60
Spreading via: Bluetooth
The damage: slowing down the cell phone

Cabir is the first and the most popular Symbian virus today. Cabir is a worm that spread via BlueTooth connection and entering the message inbox with interesting names. If you open those sys file and install it, Cabir will start to search another target cell phone that has open-access Bluetooth connection to spread.

Cabir also known as SymbOS/Cabir.A, EPOC/Cabir.A, Worm.Symbian.Cabir.a, or Caribe virus. The variant spreads with additional characters behind it name, like Cabir.Z, a variant from Cabir B and it spreads using velasco.sis system.

The Cabir will activate the BlueTooth periodically, around 15-20 minutes once, to get another phone targets. No dangerous damage, but if your cell phone infected, the battery will spent faster because it’s used to search another BlueTooth connection.

To prevent it, disable your BlueTooth feature. Activate only if you want to use it. Don’t install Symbian application with name caribe.sis or another strange name.

Spreading via: Internet
The damage: the cell phones can’t be used anymore except to calling and receiving calls only.

Another dangerous virus is SymbOS.skulls. Firstly, this Trojan named as Extenhded theme.sis, but today skulls.sis is more famous name used for this virus. This Trojan type damaging the system and causing the menu icons changed become skull icons.

Skull C, H, and S variant will change almost all icons in your cell phones menu. When installed, Skull H opened a notification message: “Install beta_092_free-sms-RM8” and Skull S displaying message “Install BlueNum Stealer”, and some other strange message.

Commonly when the infected application clicked then an error message will displayed. Not only could change the icons, Skull can damage all application that its icon has been changed.

How to Unlock or Reset Micro SD Password

Some times it happens that you forgot the password of your memory card and you have lots of your important data in your phone.

So there are two types of methods for recovering the password of your memory card with the help of nokia phone.

For Nokia s60 1st and 2nd edition phones.

1. First Install FExplorer in your phone memory.
2. Got to drive C: , you will find a file called mmcstore
3. Send it to your PC directly and open it in notepad or rename the file.
4. At the end of the file you will find your password.

For Nokia S60 3rd Phones, Nokia N-Series and Nokia E-Series

There is almost no way yet known to hack the memory card password in case of these types of phone but there is a way to do it some of the s60 3rd edition phones and almost all the E-series phones.
The remote lock option in E-Series phone allws you to unlock your phone by sending a sms.
The only thing you have to do is to activate this feature by going to Tools | Settings | Security | Phone and SIM | Allow remote lock menu. The password of your memory card will be your remote lock message.
So you have to just send a sms containing your remote lock message that will automatically change your memory card password.

What Is Rooting?

Getting root or rooting your phone is the process of modifying the operating system on your device to grant you complete control over it.
This means you can overcome limitations that the carriers and manufacturers put on your phone, extend system functionality, and even upgrade it to a custom flavor of Android.
The name root comes from the Linux operating system world, where the most privileged user on the system (otherwise known as Administrator on Windows) is called root.
Installing a ROM may require rooting first, but just rooting can be done in only a few minutes, keeping your stock OS otherwise completely intact.

Warning: rooting your phone does run the risk of potentially bricking it (i.e. your phone could become nonfunctional) – so do your homework before attempting anything.

A2SD+

A2SD+ is an extension of Android 2.2 Froyo’s native support for installing apps on the SD card, but it virtually installs every app to the external storage. You can more or less expand your internal storage with the size of the partition you create on your memory card — because you need to partition your SD card to use A2SD+. It’s great if your Android phone has a limited amount of internal storage space. Most Android ROMs have built-in support for A2SD+.

ADB

AOSP

AOSP is short for Android Open Source Project, and when the term is used in ROM descriptions, it usually indicates that the ROM in question is based on the Android source code provided by Google itself, and not on some other ROM project or a company’s firmware.

Bloatware

Bootloader

The bootloader executes code before any operating system is launched. On Android devices, the bootloader is usually locked because manufacturers want you to use the version of Android they’ve provided. With a locked bootloader on Android phones, custom ROMs cannot be flashed.

When your device is rendered unusable from improper flashing or physically damage such that it becomes like a useless piece of brick.

1. Basics of Unix-like system

* su, root, rooting - what is it, why we need it
* sh, bash, busybox - what BusyBox is, basic list of commands from BusyBox, bash, sh

Also referred to as substitute user - a command for changing the account in the current terminal (usually black screen with blinking cursor). Default account is root account. So if you insert into terminal 'su' and hit enter, you will become root user.

root

Root alias superuser or poweruser is special user account for system administration. Similar to windows having its administrator account, unix-like systems have a root account. With this, you can do anything and if you run a command to delete the whole system, unix will just do it! No asking, no confirming. So, watch your steps!

rooting

Rooting is just enabling power of root for applications and other purposes.

Superuser app

After rooting is done, you will see a new app called superuser in app drawer. This app can delegate applications to use su (root) feature. When an app asks this from first use, a popup window will appear asking if the application should be allowed to use root permission.

sh, bash

is a command-line interpreter or shell that provides a traditional user interface for the Unix operating system and for Unix-like systems. So simply, it is some interface, which can execute command(s), which you have entered. Many shells exist, but in scope of android you can (as far as I know) use only sh (standard - Bourne-shell) or bash (compiled in BusyBox or separately on XDA). Both are basically same, but bash has much more features and it is more comfortable.

user/root shell

How do I know if I'm root or normal user? It's simple. Root's shell is ended with # (usually it's shell looks like "bash-3.2# _") and user's ends with $ (usually bash-3.2$ _). In terminal emulator you also can have only [path]($|#) (for root for example "/etc # _")

BusyBox

also called "The Swiss Army Knife of Embedded Linux" is a tool which brings into Android basic tools known from unix system, but is much more smaller than standard tools is. But this "packing" has limited functions in comparison to standard tools in unix-system (missing special modes of tool, color output and so on). Many application use this. For example busybox grep (filtering of text) is needed for application called Market enabler.

BusyBox commands

list of commands is really wide, so it's not possible explain all, so I pickup only top few. (hint: if you want what some command do, just search on google for "man <command_name>" for example man mv or enter command here

cd - change directory - same like in windows. You can switch directory. example: cd /sdcard
ls - list of files in actual directory (have few switches like for example: ls -l /sdcard/*.png (detailed listing)
cat - print file into standard output (like more in windows) Example: cat /sdcard/data.txt
vi - editing of file. But on limited phone keyboard (no keyboard) it is little harder Read more about vi
cp - copy of one or more file. Example: cp /sdcard/bike.jpg /sdcard/media/bike-wallpaper.jpg
mv - moving/rename files, Example: mv /sdcard/bike.jpg /sdcard/media/renamed-moved-bike.jpg
rm - delete file (rm -R for recursive, or for delete whole folder), Example: rm -R /sdcard/wallpaper-bad/*
find - search for files, Example find / -name "best-chopper-ever.avi"
mkdir - make directory - creates directory, Example: mkdir mynewdir
chmod - changes access of files
less - similar like cat, but you can scroll in it and it doesn't produce any output. Example: less /sdcard/funnytext.txt

Remove the outlet of the charger. Just leave only the negative and positive cord.

Next, isaksak na natin ang charger then get our corrupted mmc.Put the negative cord in the left side of the metal of the MMC with a gold color. Then, the positive cord will be put to the next gold. Just stay the negative their. Then let the positive cord shock each gold for 3-5 seconds. Some rechargeable batteries can be damaged by repeated deep discharge. Batteries are composed of multiple similar, but not identical, cells. Each cell has its own charge capacity. As the battery as a whole is being deeply discharged, the cell with the smallest capacity may reach zero charge and will "reverse charge" as the other cells continue to force current through it. The resulting loss of capacity is often ascribed to the memory effect.

Memory effect refers to a temporary or permanent loss of capacity in a battery when it's discharged. Analysts at Frost & Sullivan Inc. in Houston say the phenomenon occurs most often in nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cad) cells, when they're discharged to a certain point and recharged a successive number of times. They say you can avoid memory effect by discharging the cell completely during each use and before recharging it.
True says he believes memory effect isn't really a problem for today's Ni-Cads in cell phones, since their chargers are more precise in preventing an overcharge. The memory effect was a bigger concern several years ago, when Ni-Cads were introduced for video equipment batteries as an alternative to lead-acid batteries.

The Mysterious Memory Effect of Rechargeable Batteries

Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries were the standard technology for years, but today they are out of date and new laptops don't use them anymore. They are heavy and very prone to the "memory effect". When recharging a NiCd battery that has not been fully discharged, it "remembers" the old charge and continues there the next time you use it. The memory effect is caused by crystallization of the battery's substances and can permanently reduce your battery's lifetime, even make it useless. To avoid it, you should completely discharge the battery and then fully recharge it again at least once every few weeks. As this battery contains cadmium, a toxic material, it should always be recycled or disposed of properly.
Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries are the cadmium-free replacement for NiCad. They are less affected by the memory effect than NiCd and thus require less maintenance and conditioning.
Lithium Ion (Li-ion) are the new standard for portable power. Li-ion batteries produce the same energy as NiMH but weighs approximately 20%-35% less. They do not suffer significantly from the memory effect unlike their NiMH and Ni-Cd counterparts.

How to Make Your Cell Phone Battery Last Longer

If you flatten a battery before you recharge it - some people flatten their batteries manually, and some chargers do it automatically - you greatly reduce the life of the pack. A given battery pack may last for 500 full cycles, or 2000 partial ones. If you're fully flattening the battery by actually using it, then fair enough. But flattening it as part of the recharging process is goofy.
True memory only happens in sintered plate NiCd cells (which aren't necessarily the sort of NiCd you're using, and are of course completely different from any kind of NiMH cell), and it only happens when you precisely discharge a cell to exactly the same level over and over again, and recharge it without any overcharge. True memory effect happens in satellite power systems, electronics test labs, and practically nowhere else.
Fully discharging cells cures voltage depression, but if you fully discharge a whole battery then the stronger cells in the battery will "reverse" the weaker ones. The weaker ones go flat first, and then get charged backwards by the others. This is very bad for the weaker cells, and will kill a battery pack quick smart. So don't do it.

FIXING A CORRUPTED MMC

Physically, memory cards are quite fragile pieces of high technology, susceptible to damage from various silly things like excessive heat, condensation, strong magnetic fields, physical damage from rough handling and/or bending! (similar to most electronic devices
then..)
Given the natue of mobile memory card products, they are constantly being taken in and out of some form of interface with a mobile phone, a camera, a laptop, or desktop PC, or a separate memory card reader. The number of different devices they have to be able to interact with is in the thousands. It is not too surprisingly, then that sometimes the state of the file system on the memory card can get damaged. This may happen for a number of
different reasons, including:
> removing the card from a device
whilst an application is trying to read/
write to it.. (Just be patient...)
> battery drain on a device whilst in use
meaning an insufficent voltage failure
whilst writing to the card.
> a poor implementation of the MMC
standard on the device using the card
> poor connectivity software drivers on
the device or the Windows PC/Mac
> physical damage like card or device
being dropped, bent, getting wet etc...
> lots of others i am sure..

As often as not, the problem is not
terminal for your memory card, but just a software issue ( or in physical terms, it could be called "a temporary disalignment of the all the bits and bytes on the card").
The fix for this problem is the same as for any other file storage device (like a floppy or hard drive) with corrupt or invalid file system, namely; re-format
the file system.

Re-Formatting your MobyMemory MMC Card:
It is possible that your mobile will offer you the option of formatting the memory card if it is found to be invalid. (However, the likes of Nokia nGage, Nokia 6600, and Siemens Sx1 often just prefer to reject the media as corrupted). In that case, to format the card, you will need access to one or more of the following:

> A Windows PC or Mac.
> A separate multi-format memory card reader (verify that it is compatible with the MultiMediaCard -MMC- standard).
> (This can come in USB or PCMCIA
flavours. If USB, try and ensutre it is a USB2 device.
> Alternatively, many of the newest laptop and desktop PCs now come with integrated Multi-format memory card readers.
> If you are using a separate memory card reader, then connect it up to your PC, and let windows recgnize the device
through plug-and-play.

Now you can insert your MobyMemory card into the appropriate slot in the memory card reader. (Please note that because the MMC card is pretty much symmetrical it is very easy to insert it upside-down in the slot).

Open up [Windows Explorer] (or the equivalent for MAC users..sorry not well-versed in OS X). There should be at least one icon visible for a [Removable Drive] in the list of
available drives. (in fact, there is often a list of about 5 or 6 Removable drives, one for each of the different Memory card formats that your reader is compatible with). Find the drive that is mapped to the MMC card by clicking on each in turn until it confirms there is a drive present. (Sometimes it is easiest to do this by trying a fully-functional MMC card in the MMC slot first so you can confirm which drive letter it is.) (NB. It will always be labelled as a [Removable Drive], don't mistake it for one of your PC hard drives like [C:] drive, as that could be catastrophic later on!)

At this stage it may give an error message saying that the drive is unreadable. By right-clicking on the drive letter, it will provide the option of formatting the drive. Select format the drive, and the [Format Drive] dialog will appear (Double-check again to make sure it not your [C:] drive!).

There is only one setting to focus on in this page, and that is to ensure that the FileSystem selected for formatting is the [FAT] option (not FAT32, or NTFS or any other option) (Note: All mobile phones, to my knowledge, and most cameras (etc..) use the FAT file system (or at least are compatible with it) on their memory card media.) Now click on Format Now ( ensure [Quick Format] is not selected as this will not actually restore the file system space byte by byte, but only resets the header information so the drive thinks its empty again. This may not be enought to solve your corruption problem.) The PC will now - hopefully!- chug away happily until it has restored the memory card space back to its original configuration (of course, any information on there is long gone by now!). If you recieve an error message back from the [Format Now] request, then your problem may be more permanent, and not just a software issue. In this case, it may still respond to a format request in a different memory card reader or device. If you believe it to be a failure of manufacture, then the warranty on the card offers the prospect of a replacement card, subject to a confirmation of the fault upon return of the goods.
