While many of the specs of the global edition will carry over to the Canadian edition, the quad-core Samsung Exynos 4 Quad processor inside has been swapped for a dual-core Qualcomm S4 unit clocked at 1.5GHz.

The OV12830 is a new 12.7 megapixel sensor geared toward high-end devices. It can shoot 1080p HD video at 60 frames per second and take full 12 megapixel still shots at a rate of 24 frames per second. The OV12830 uses 1.1-micron OmniBSI-2 pixel architecture and includes an on-chip RAW scaler. At the other end of the spectrum, the new OVM7675 is a VGA-capable sensor that can be used for video capture in smartphones, tablets, or notebooks. It can shoot VGA (480 x 640 pixel) video at 30 frames per second, and has a low-light sensitivity rating of 1800mV/(Lux-sec). Both sensors are expected to hit volume production in Q4 of this year.

While older versions of the app simply stretched the smartphone interface to fit the larger display of tablets, the new version offers a proper two-pane interface and more finger-friendly buttons. All of the other features that users love have carried over, including granular notification control, task sharing, and the all-important cross-platform syncing with PCs and other devices. Wunderlist for Android is free and available in the Google Play Store now. Wunderlist also recently released a version of its app for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet that offers many of the same features.

The update addresses a number of issues, including those found in the email and calendar app, and bugs that cause the phone to freeze and become unresponsive. Verizon also says that the Galaxy Nexus can now "complete calls without experiencing choppy audio, clicking noises and one-way audio noises" and "successfully access Voicemail and other automated systems without error," which seem like important things that needed to be fixed. The carrier has not announced when the update will be made available over-the-air to users, but we imagine that it can't be too far off now.

First available in Europe and Samsung's flagship stores yesterday, the Galaxy S III can now be purchased from the major UK carriers and retailers, though buyers can expect to find limited stock and long waits for the high-demand smartphone. Samsung revealed yesterday that the Pebble Blue model won't hit shelves for another 2 to 3 weeks due to a manufacturing issue, so those that want to buy a Galaxy S III now will have to settle for the white model, assuming they even find that one in stock, of course. Of the major carriers, Vodafone is the only one that reports having stock ready for at-home delivery on its website, but it's hard to tell how much stock each store will have.

Unsurprisingly, the low-end phone carries an equally low-end price tag, as buyers can get it from O2, Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, and Virgin Mobile for free with a 15 GBP per month plan. The Lumia 610 sports a 3.7-inch WVGA display, a 5 megapixel camera, 8GB of internal storage, and 256MB of RAM, which means that it won't be able to run a handful of apps available in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Customers are able to choose between white, black, cyan, or magenta color options.

The HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE were initially held by customs officials about two weeks ago as the government investigated as to whether or not the smartphones violated Apple's patents. HTC revealed on May 20 that some of the devices were released and Sprint was able to ship the EVO 4G LTE to many of its pre-order customers shortly after that. The phone maker is confident that future shipments will not be delayed and that it "will soon be able to meet the demand for our products."

The OV2722 CameraChip is capable of recording native 1080p video, though its still image capabilities are limited to 2 megapixels. OmniVision says the new chip uses its OmniBSI+ pixel architecture that provides improved light sensitivity and image quality while still maintaining a module height of less than 3mm. The 1/6-inch chip has 1.4-micron pixels and promises to offer 10 percent better low light sensitivity than its predecessor. OmniVision says that the OV2722 is currently in volume production, but it did not say when we might see it used in actual devices.

This weekend it was revealed that owners of the Lumia 610 are unable to install the Angry Birds game (as well as a number of other titles) from the Windows Phone Marketplace because of the 610's limited 256MB of RAM. Nokia did not say exactly when the optimized version of Angry Birds would be available for Lumia 610 owners, but it did say that it would be coming very soon.

The Lumia 900 that is available in other markets, such as the U.S. and the UK, only has 16GB of internal storage, so the bump in storage is a welcome addition. O2's version of the Lumia 900 will come in glossy white, but pricing and exact availability have yet to be announced.

This means that Windows Phone can be installed on lower cost hardware and reach a wider audience, but it unfortunately also comes with some app compatibility problems.

Despite the criticism levied against the Vu (odd size, outdated software), it doesn't look like LG is ready to give up on this "phablet" market, as the company has just announced a new, high-resolution display for mobile devices that could very well be used in future smartphone/tablet hybrid devices.

Developed by the Chronic-Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team, the Absinthe 2.0 tool will jailbreak most iOS devices, including the Apple iPhone 4S, new Apple iPad, and the latest generation iPod touch.. The only notable iOS device that it doesn't yet work with is the 2012 version of the iPad 2, which features a different processor than the 2011 model. Head over to the source link to check out the instructions on how to jailbreak your iOS device using the tool, and, as always, be aware that you could do irreparable harm to your phone or tablet if you mess something up while attempting to jailbreak it.

The Cius was designed for Cisco's key customer - the enterprise - but it's high price and limited functionality meant that it never caught on with most businesses. Cisco says that the "bring-your-own-device" (BYOD) movement that allows employees to bring their own tablets to work put the final nail in the coffin for the Cius tablet. The company says that no further enhancements will be made to the Cius tablet, but it will still make it available to customers that have specific needs or use cases.

The staff that was reported as leaving were said to be crucial members in the Enyo framework development and included leader of the project Matt McNulty. While this may have sounded like a death knell for the Open webOS project, HP has reaffirmed its commitment to the platform, and says that it plans to expand the number of staff working on the Open webOS project.

<title>FCC says 4G LTE in the 800MHz band is A-OK</title>

Prior to this, only 2G services were allowed to be used on 800MHz spectrum. This approval means that Sprint should have no trouble converting its 800MHz airwaves, currently used for 2G iDEN services, over to 4G LTE services, as it has planned with its Network Vision upgrades. Sprint announced back in April that it received certification from the 3GPP for the transition of 800MHz to 4G LTE, but it was waiting for approval from the FCC before it could complete the transition. The carrier expects to have 4G LTE services running on its 800MHz spectrum by 2014.

In a letter to the Federal Communications Commission, Verizon says that it has lined up 36 potential buyers for the spectrum - all of which are restricted from speaking of the deal by a non-disclosure agreement, of course.

<title>German court rules Motorola violates Microsoft text messaging patent</title>

The split ruling could result in a ban on the sale Motorola's devices in Germany, and Microsoft is now hopeful that Motorola will sign a patent licensing agreement with it, much like how many other Android device manufacturers already have. "We're pleased the court agreed today that Motorola has infringed Microsoft's intellectual property, and we hope Motorola will be willing to join other Android device makers by taking a license to our patents," said Microsoft deputy general counsel David Howard concerning the decision. It is likely that Motorola will file for an appeal.
