Google working on teleconferencing tool GMeet

It seems like Google is working on a teleconferencing service. Dubbed as GMeet, the service will allow users to schedule or join a conference call with just one click.

This service was first spotted by Google+ user Florian Kiersch. With the help of GMeet, a user could create a meeting topic in GMeet, then invite everyone else to the call. People who received an invite would be able to then join the call with a single click. These screeshots are of an Android App, however Kiersch claims that the company also working on building a GMeet Chrome extension.

Florien claims that the service is only open to Google employees, but it’s unclear if GMeet is intended solely for Google employee use. It is not clear is the GMeet app is for consumers at general or if it will be a enterprise product. Google Meet would work in a similar way as Google Hangouts, allowing for voice and/or video calls to be conducted over the service.

Sony Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet Android 5.0 update now rolling out, coming to Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultr

Sony has started rolling out Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update (v23.1.A.0.690) for both the Sony Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet. The update is also available in India, according to the official Sony India support page. It started rolling out for the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact last month, but the update is yet to roll out for Indian units.

Sony also announced that the Lollipop update for the Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra will roll out starting next week. It already confirmed that it will offer Lollipop update for Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra in coming weeks. Now it has confirmed that both these are next in line to get the Lollipop update. Time frame of the roll out it yet to be revealed.

BlackBerry Launches BBM Protected for Android and iOS

In a bid to put more focus on digital privacy, BlackBerry has announced BBM Protected support for Android and iOS. This will allow those smartphone owners to access a more secure enterprise-based version of its BBM messaging service.

Earlier BBM protect was only accessible through Blackberry devices but now devices running Android and iOS can also use the feature. BBM Protected for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry phones uses encryption keys which are generated by the communicating mobile devices themselves. It is part of the BBM Protected IM service which offers the standard IM app-like features along with boosted security.

To use the service one can start a Protected conversation on the BBM Protect and even invite non-BBM protected users into the conversation, as long as they have the BBM app on their device. This feature is geared towards business users who once exclusively relied on BlackBerry hardware and software. BBM Protected is available for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, iPhone, and Android devices. Blackberry claims that their software will save the consumer from ‘man in the middle’ hacker attacks to provide greater security than other instant messaging apps present in the market.

Lenovo K3 Note With 4G LTE Support, 5.5-Inch Display Launched

Lenovo on Monday launched a new 4G LTE budget phablet dubbed the Lenovo K3 Note in China, priced at CNY 899 (approximately $144).

Just like the recently launched Lenovo A7000, the Lenovo K3 Note offers dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) support, and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with the firm's Vibe UI on top. Lenovo is also offering a Teana variant of the K3 Note that features a ceramic piece vibration speaker and is priced at CNY 999 (approximately $160).

Upfront, the Lenovo K3 Note features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display with 401ppi pixel density. The smartphone is powered by a 64-bit 1.5GHz octa-core (MediaTek MT6572) processor with 2GB of RAM.

The K3 Note packs a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front facing camera. Inbuilt storage on the handset is 16GB, which is expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). Connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G (TD-LTE/ LTE), Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, Bluetooth, and Micro-USB.

The large-screen Lenovo K3 Note packs a 3000mAh battery, which is slightly bumped up from Lenovo A7000's 2900mAh battery. It measures 152.6x76.2x7.99mm and weighs 150 grams.
The Lenovo K3 Note smartphone is seen as competition to the Meizu m1 note in China. While both devices have almost identical specifications, the key differentiator would be the pricing in China. The Meizu m1 note is priced at CNY 1,399 (approximately $222).

Meizu is one of the top smartphone manufacturers in China. The company is all set to enter the Indian market, as it has recently made its presence felt in Indian social media with the launch of its Facebook and Twitter India page. The company is running a giveaway contest for the Meizu m1 note, hinting at the firm being set to launch that smartphone first in the country.

Amazon planning to offer paid apps for free via “Unlocked” program

With an aim to bolster its Appstore installs, Amazon is said to be launching a new “Unlocked” program, as per Tech Crunch. This service will offer paid apps and games absolutely free.

The report describes Unlocked as “Amazon Prime for apps,” and it would offer paid apps for free, and even unlock all in-app purchases for “free-to-play” games. Developers can leave Unlocked, and when they do, users will have to begin paying for in-app purchases again.

The document showed off a few examples of games and apps that may be offered through the Unlocked program. Some of the apps and games in the Unlocked program are Sonic Dash, and Monument Valley , OfficeSuite 8 + PDF Converter and Ultimate Guitar Tabs & Chords.

It is not clear when Amazon Unlocked will launch, how it will work, where the free apps will be located, and how much it will cost. Moving on the report further adds that Amazon plans to promote Unlocked heavily in its main shopping app — and Unlocked users will in fact need to have that main shopping app installed

Samsung said to release foldable smartphones in 2016

Samsung showed off foldable display at CES 2014 but not for general public. Now a fresh report from Business Korea is stating that the company is working on foldable smartphones that are expected to release by next year.

There are four different stages in the evolution of flexible display technology and the industry came to identify these steps as “curved”, “bent”, “foldable” and “rollable”. LG’s G Flex 2 and Samsung’s curved edge displays, which can bend up and down and side to side, are between the first and second stages. Samsung told the publication that “the commercialization of foldable smartphones will be possible in 2016″. The IHS recently released a report claiming that foldable tablets might hit the market by the end of this year.

LG on the other hand has been experimenting with transparent displays and told the publication thatis completed and a promotional prototype is already available.

It seems that a new Surface tablet from Microsoft is in the making. As per a report from WinBeta, the software company is working on a low end model of the Surface 2 successor.

The report said that the new Surface will be unveiled before or at Microsoft’s Build conference next month. A full version of Windows 8.1 is said to be onboard on the tablet which will be upgradeable to Windows 10 when the new software arrives later this year. The Surface 3 will be fanless mostly due to the inclusion on an Intel Atom or Core M processor. As per the report the upcoming Surface tablet will be “marketed as a non-pro” device.

It is stated that the new Surface will be a full-sized tablet and not a “Surface Mini” device. No other details and specs of the tablet are known at this time.

The phone will go on sale in nine countries — the U.S., U.K, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore — on September 21 (precisely the day Apple blogs had predicted the phone would hit shelves). Apple will begin accepting pre-orders for the new iPhone on September 14 and has already set up a landing page for the device on its online store. As usual, the launch of a new iPhone is going hand-in-hand with a discount in the price of an old one. T-Reminder is a universal program for Symbian smartphones. Its capabilities will remind you about a variety of missed events. The T-Reminder tracks:
Missed calls, SMS/MMS messages, e-mails;
Used-up batteries/completed battery charges;
Appearance/disappearance of cellular networks;
3G network detection.

The T-Reminder will alert you of missed messages in a variety of ways:
Playing a ringtone;
A blinking light;
Vibra-signaling; and
Pop-up message display.

List of events to be tracked

The T-Reminder is very handy. You see all tracking events and the number of missed calls or messages on one screen. You can also switch the tracking of any event with just one click.

Single clicking enables or disables tracking. You will hear a notification sound when you enable tracking.
When reminding you of the time, you’ll see a pop-up message detailing the missed event or, if you’ve missed calls, the display will show how many you’ve missed. Again, if you can’t stop to attend to these matters right away, you can stop notification about this event with just one click. If you miss one more event, the reminding system will automatically recommence.
Double clicking opens a signal settings window.
The T-Reminder doesn’t remind you about missed events when the remind time has expired or when notification has stopped. The reason your reminders stop will be displayed on the screen. Possible values are:
Stopped – user has pressed the “Stop reminding” button in pop-up notification.
Expired – the notification term has expired.

You can set the T-Reminder on “autostart” and enable or disable pop-up notifications in the menu.
By clicking the “Exit” button, you’ll close the user interface only. The T-Reminder will continue to track events for you in the background.

Signal settings

You can set a ring tone and notification interval in the simple mode.
For certain events, you can set a level to define the limit to begin repeating notifications. For example, you can set it at the lowest battery level, upon which the T-Reminder will alert you that your batteries are getting low.
You can set notification terms and special settings in the advanced mode.
By default, general signal settings are used for all reminders. You can get to the general settings by choosing "menu/settings/general settings."
You can also set up special settings for a particular event. For example, you can set an individual vibration for a missed call to differ from other reminders.

Common ans special signal settings.

The common signal settings are used for any event by default except for the “autostart” and “Max melody size (Kb),” which are used for the whole program.
Autostart – Starts program on a smartphone; switches it on.
Show notification – Shows pop-up notification of a set time.
Signal type – Shows which type of signal to use.
Ignore schedule for – Shows which types of signals will ignore the schedule.
Volume – Sets the volume of reminders in the percentage of profile volume if a volume is profile-dependent; otherwise, sets the volume in the percentage of maximum device volume.
Vibration rhythm – The count and length of vibration impulses. If the vibration rhythm is a profile-dependent program, check for a vibration setting in a current profile before signaling.
Light devices – Devices used for a light signal.
Light rhythm – Blinking parameters.
Detection delay – The time term between event detection and reminder initiation.
When phone is in use – Enables or disables a notification when you use the phone, i.e., surfing the Internet or writing an SMS.
Max melody size (Kb) – The maximum size of a file in the ring tones list.
Signal schedule

You can set up the entire week’s schedule here.
Intervals indicate when the program will remind you about missed events. You can set which types of signals will ignore the schedule at the signal settings.
You can also undo your last schedule change to return to the previous schedule simply by selecting the “Undo” menu item. It appears in the menu after the first schedule change.
You can set exact time period parameters by using the "Change" menu item.
You can set the reminder interval to begin on a certain day and to end on another day.
You can specify two or even more intervals per day.
By clicking the “Exit” button, you’ll close user interface only. The program will continue to track events in the background.
The first day of the week is set by using the calendar settings of your phone, and the weekdays and the weekend is set by using the clock settings of your phone.
