There’s no better way of passing the time then getting out your phone and zapping some aliens, burning rubber on a race track or just rolling a marble round a maze trying not to lose the ball down a hole. That’s exactly what we’re talking about today in our three top free games for the Nokia N8.

As much as I love to get involved in work or hang out with my loved ones, sometimes I just love to kick back, put my feet up and zone out for a while. And I’ve been doing that a lot lately since I’ve found some new games on my Nokia N8. The three games I’ve been staring at intently for the past few days are Galaxy on Fire, Need For Speed Shift and Marble Maze Classic. All of which are free from Ovi Store.

Galaxy on Fire, £Free

Bought to us by FISHLABS who’ve been around since 2004 and has been developing high-quality 3D titles for every relevant mobile game platform since.You’re a pilot named Keith T. Maxwell (I wonder if the T stands for Tiberius? What do you think, Star Trek fans?) and you’re at the helm of a small fighter ship, where every challenge means shooting something down that gets in your way. Usually an ugly alien that’s shooting back at you, so it’s all justified. Cruising around space earning credits to buy that next bigger and better fighter ship packed with the latest lasers makes this game really fun, as you’ll find it difficult to reach every corner of the universe. I’ve currently racked up about 8 hours’ game time and own a shiny battle ship that’s unstoppable. What ship have you got?

Need For Speed Shift, £Free

Electronic Arts are the guys responsible for this game as well as a whole heap more such as The Sims, Medal of Honor and FIFA on a wide variety of platforms including games consoles.There’s one simple task in this game and that’s to be faster than all the other drivers. You can play in two modes; Quick Race and Career. Quick Race lets you just pick up your phone and take your car for a spin around a track while Career takes you on a journey across the world, conquering each continent, beating all the different car models. The further you progress on your career, the more money you’ll earn, leaving you with lots of spare cash to buy upgrades for your engine, a new spoiler or even a new car. You’ve got a choice of where you play the game from with Need For Speed Shift, either in the driver’s seat looking out from the windscreen or floating above the car which is where I usually drive from.

Marble Maze Classic, £Free – With ads

Marble Maze Classic is a digital version of those toys you used to pull out of a Christmas cracker when you were a kid. Hyperkani makes all sorts of classic games, mostly built for the Symbian platform.The idea of Marble Maze Classic is to get a ball around a maze without losing it through an inconveniently placed hole. There aren’t many obstacles to avoid, just the holes and the walls, but some levels contain more holes than a block of swiss cheese and dodging them can be tricky. The Steel Ball is probably the easiest to roll around, but the Rubber Ball and Super ping pong Ball are more difficult to control as they’e got more bounce. Once you’ve mastered all 180 levels of the maze with all three ball types, you should try to make your own maze with the Custom Field option in the menu adding as many holes or walls as you like. Actually, the second image above is my custom made maze.

All these games are controlled by tilting the phone from left to right, or back to front, which makes a really interesting way of playing which you’ll soon get the hang of. You may get some strange looks if you play them on public transport, though.

App review: Nokia N8 video editor

Last week, we showed you how to edit photos right from your Nokia N8 using the built-in photo editor. Today, we continue the tips and take you through the video editor software so you can try your hand at becoming the next Steven Spielberg. Keep reading to find out all about the Nokia N8 video editor.

You’ll find the video editing software in the applications menu and once opened you’ll see two options to choose from; You can create a video using your photos and video clips, adding in some background music from your collection for effect or create a simple slideshow with fancy backgrounds with your photos fading in and out, also with the ability to add your own soundtrack.

Let’s start with creating a video. Selecting the first option of the two will take you to your storyboard and this is where you’ll be adding your photos, videos, music tracks or even some text, this is perfect for adding a title and credits at the end like you’d see on the big screen. There’s also the option for inserting some nice transitions between scenes which makes the scene changes less clunky and more seamless.

One feature is that you can trim the videos or music tracks you want to include if they’re too long for your mini movie. This is easily done by pressing on the video clip or track and then selecting the trim option. Think of if as cropping, but for music and videos.

Once you’ve completed your video edit, you finish by pressing the save button. It then stitches all your scenes together and plays them out for you. The finished file will end up in your videos folder for you to send on to other people or just for you to view whenever you fancy.

Now let’s talk about the slideshow option. Slideshow lets you merge all your favourite images into one memorable collage. First you choose what style you want the slideshow to have, such as the blackboard theme for instructional videos, or the splash theme with a fun beachside backdrop for remembering your holiday to the Bahamas, or Brighton. Choosing what images to use can be tricky and you only get to use 32 from your collection in any one slideshow. Once you’ve made your pick, it’s now time to add a music track to bring it all to life. Press save and your medley of photos will be merged together, forever.

Nokia C7 Launched in India at Rs19,490

We informed you before that the Nokia C7 had started shipping and that it will be arriving in Indian stores soon. The Nokia C7 is now available in stores at an approximate price of Rs 19,490.The pricing will vary slightly from region to region and shop to shop. There maybe bundle offers on the handset but it depends on the store from where you purchase it. The price is also expected to come down a little in the coming weeks.

Right now it may not be available in all shops or regions but it should be available all over within a weeks time.

Xperia X10 family finally getting Android 2.1

We heard about it a lot of times that Xperia X10 family is getting the Android 2.1 treatment, but every time its just a wrong rumor or it’s delayed, but now, it’s finally coming. Well, it’s very late, but something is better than nothing. Sony Ericsson has announced that they will officially bring the Android 2.1 to Xperia X10 family this Sunday. First region to receive the update is the Nordic region, followed by Europe. No words on when the US variants of Xperia X10 will get the update. So you will receive the update anytime if you live in the following region after Sunday. Android 2.2 is already out from a long time now, and now Google is even planning to launch the Android 2.3. I think Sony Ericsson is not planning to update the Xperia X10 family to the newer versions i.e Android 2.2, 2.3. Xperia X10 is a pretty good device, but that old Android built is like a dark black stain on it. I hope SE will keep updating their devices, which is very important, right folks? Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone leaked again, more details !

We show you the first leaked shots of the Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone, which is probably the surprise Sony Ericsson want to give us later this year or may be next. I heard from a lot people saying that there is no such PlayStation phone; also Sony Ericsson said that there is no PlayStation phone, but after a while they said that “We don’t want to comment on it”. People say this type of stuff when they are trying to hide something. Folks over at Engadget got their hands on the PlayStation phone again with some additional details. Well, the PlayStation phone is codenamed “Zeus”, and the phone is running on Android 2.2, and also on Android 2.3. The device features a 1GHz processor, 512 MB Internal storage with microSD slot. The phone also has a 5 Megapixel camera and a Touchpad. We were at the Samsung Galaxy Tab India launch event earlier today and had a chance to play with the device for a little while . Hardware wise the Galaxy Tab seems pretty impressive. No rough edges or creaky sounds. In short solid piece of hardware. The size of the Galaxy Tab makes it very portable. No it still wont fit it in trouser pocket, may be a coat pocket. The screen is pretty responsive and Android 2.2 FroYo is pretty fast.The only bad thing about the device is it’s Price – Rs.38000

A new unreleased Nokia handset has been leaked on the internet , thanks to a listing on a government website in China. The X2-01 is an entry level QWERTY S40 Phone. It’ s a GSM phone with Bluetooth and Memory card support along with a 3 MP Camera.

LG Optimus One P500 Unboxing

Here are some unboxing pictures and a video of the LG Optimus One (P500) which landed at the FoneArena HQ earlier this week. LG calls this device a transitional smartphone and it packs a 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen , is powered by 600MHz processor along with a 1500mAh battery. It sports a 3 MP Camera on the back. Since it runs on FroYo out of the box you can use the phone as a WiFi hotspot.
The browser is pretty fast and and voice search works pretty well. LG has done minor customization to the Android UI. The hardware is mostly plastic with a metal rim in the middle. It feels solid and actually a bit heavy.There are 4 keys below the screen and the home and back key get some special treatment.

The handset is available for free in UK with a contract and under 250 pounds for outright purchase. It will be available in Asia soon. While the price for India has not been revealed , we expect this handset to cost around Rs.16000-17000 ! It’s available on T-Mobile USA as the Optimus-T

I’m trialing the brand new Nokia C7 theses days, and gotta say i really like the phone! I won’t spoil too much in detail for now, but i wanna say this: if you’re up for a classy, stylish phone with great material quality, the C7 is something you should definitely have a look at. I met with Christoph from Nokia Austria today for a relaxed tech chat and he showed me two cool features i didn’t know about the Nokia C7 yet! While the first one, is not exactly spectacular, the second one definitely comes in handy!

Just when we were struggling with the Nokia N8 T9 keyboard, we spotted a spare PC USB keyboard lying in our office . We decided to connect the wired keyboard to the N8 using the USB OTG feature. It will certainly boost your wpm score( words per minute) . Michael already showed that you can control the N8 with a Keyboard and Mouse via Bluetooth. But we are kinda surprised that it works over a wired connection too. BTW a USB Mouse works as well .

The second of Nokia’s new Symbian devices announced at Nokia World, the C6-01, officially starts shipping today. The boxes have been filled, the vans loaded and the factory gates opened. Soon they will be with retailers and operators near you. Join us after the break for a reminder of why you might want one.

The new Nokia C6 is the smallest and most affordable of the new family of Symbian devices. The C6-01 measures 103.8 x 52.5 x 13.9mm and weighs in at just 131g. Like its siblings, it’s a fully functional communicator with support for 3G and WiFi on board. It’s got a 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touch-screen featuring the new ClearBlack display technology for the first time (more about that in a later post). The C6-01 is also one of Nokia’s greenest devices to date, featuring the use of bioplastics and recycled metals for much of its construction.

It doesn’t skimp on multimedia, either, with an eight-megapixel full focus camera with dual-LED flash. The camera’s also capable of shooting 720p high-definition video. The usable internal memory (340MB) is probably a tad tight for that, but can be souped-up with a microSD memory card for over 32GB of storage. There’s a 2GB card to get you started in the box. Like all the recent devices, it comes with free navigation through Ovi Maps, extra apps from Ovi Store and tunes from Ovi Music.
