Sales campaign integrates social media, packaging and POS

Berlin, October 20, 2011. Berlin-based creative agency Moccu has launched a new campaign for Paramount Farms Europe bvba and its brand “Wonderful Pistachios”. Its key focus is an online game in which customers crack open a virtual pistachio and get the chance to win prizes concealed within the nut. The three-month campaign, which is being publicized on wonderfulpistazien.de and Facebook, started on October 15.

Pistachio lovers receive a promotional code with every packet of Wonderful Pistachios purchased, which they can use to crack open the online pistachio. With luck, the pistachio will reveal an instant win. The codes are attached to the packets with special stickers developed by Moccu, and can be entered on both a separate campaign microsite and on the Wonderful Pistachios Facebook page.

Entertainment and purchase incentive in one

Moccu designed the cross-platform online promotion within a short period of time, customizing it flexibly to the various platforms. In terms of execution, the focus was placed initially on the pistachio, which provides entertaining winning notifications in the form of the “eye candy” animation. While the HTML website is enhanced by specific flash animations, Moccu also developed a fully transferable solution for mobile terminal devices. The pistachio “Crac-Man Game” feature was another brainwave by the Berlin-based creative experts, which they conceived specifically for Facebook.

These winning options are a strong additional incentive to purchase the premium pistachios. The link to the Wonderful Pistachios online offers also guarantees additional incentives and increased brand awareness. Frederik Noben, project manager at Paramount Farms, is extremely satisfied with the results: “Moccu proves its consummate mastery of this type of prize competition: from A to Z.”

Moccu and Wonderful Pistachios: A traditional collaboration

Moccu successfully accompanied the 2009 market launch of Wonderful Pistachios with the “How do you crack the nut?” campaign. The agency also developed and designed a new brand identity for the Pistachio Health portal, another part of the product family [6]. It follows that the new online campaign continues the tradition of what has become a successful collaboration spanning several years.

Moccu CEO Björn Zaske describes the project’s uniqueness as follows: “At bottom, “Let’s Crack” is a digital campaign which nonetheless reaches the supermarket shelves. This type of integrated approach, which even includes the offline POS, opens up extremely interesting opportunities and synergies.”

The campaign can be found at http://www.wonderfulpistazien.de.

User-centered online concept for the summer months

Berlin, August 29, 2011. Creative agency Moccu has developed an online seasonal special for Garnier in the shape of the “Garnier Summer Consultant”. The agency’s creative minds evaluated the most popular seasonal search requests in the fields of body and care and dreamed up a website supplement tailored precisely to customers’ current interests in order to boost the number of hits and dwell time on Garnier’s online presence. After the search request analysis, design and content were customized optimally to the target group’s seasonal care requirements and configured in a dynamic, interactive way in order to draw customers’ attention to the corresponding products.

Design and content in summery attire

To date, the Garnier web presence has focused on the product catalog and consultancy spheres for skin and hair. The design developed by Moccu during the course of the seasonal special successfully restructures the website, linking the three previous components and adding content and interactivity. This effectively increases dwell time on the website, as customers are presented with a wider product selection and, simultaneously, a direct connection to everyday situations in which the products can be used.

Customized content boosts traffic and dwell time

Moccu’s Summer Consultant also includes an interactive BMI* calculator and a slew of handy fitness and care tips. Themes such as sun protection for skin and hair and nutrition were integrated in a specially developed summer scenario. Customers also receive corresponding product tips from Garnier, which direct them to the product catalog. The website extension’s interactivity and increased interconnectivity make it easier to find and promote traffic.

Moccu has been Germany’s leading online agency for Garnier since 2009. Client manager Marc Bruenjes and his team have supervised the cosmetic supplier’s internet presence ever since, executing several campaigns including the launch of the Garnier Hair Studio for the sixth series of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”**.

Berliners network museum presentations at various locations via apps

Creative agency Moccu is responsible for digital communication at the “Schwabenkinder” exhibition organized by the Bauernhaus-Museum in Wolfegg, an open-air museum near Ravensburg. Moccu fought off four other agencies to win the pitch. The exhibition traces the history of generations of poverty-stricken children and adolescents who crossed the Alps each year to work in Swabia, a practice dating back to the 17th century, in great detail. Moccu is developing a digital overall concept designed to optimally support the interactive, visitor-friendly nature of the museum presentation.

In addition to the creation of the website and an extensive database used to archive details of the “Schwabenkinder” and their lives, the incorporation of the nomadic motif presented the creative minds from Berlin with a challenge. The exhibition takes place in different locations in various European countries within the Alpine region, which are connected via a thematic hiking trail. In order to apply this concept digitally, Moccu is designing a “hiking app” which makes the history of the Swabian children comprehensible anywhere via location-based storytelling.

The academic approach is also proving challenging in terms of conceptualization. Jens Schmidt, Moccu’s founding manager and creative director, describes the project’s requirements as follows: “Illustrating the content adequately, so that it’s absorbing while remaining sufficiently objective to fulfill the criteria of historic documentation is particularly demanding.” The exhibition “Schwabenkinder” opens its doors in March 2012.

CREATIVE multimedia solutions

MOCCU and PREUSS UND PREUSS aren’t just neighbors, they’re also colleagues. Both “boutique agencies” bundle their skills and capacity within a single firm. The result: an integrated, independent agency model combining online, traditional and, above all, communicative solutions which is being used by an increasing number of clients. The 30 years’ experience notched up in the field of digital communication by MOCCU’s three founders merges with an additional 30 years of expertise gained by Nina and Michael Preuss during their work for top agencies.

Integrated agency model made flesh

MOCCU has had its headquarters in a spacious 500 m² rear courtyard-facing coach house at the heart of Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district for several years. In November 2010, Moccu was joined by PREUSS AND PREUSS, which moved to the premises as well. However, the existing infrastructure (including office space and conference rooms) is shared by both agencies. MOCCU’s CEO Thomas Walter comments: “This not only bundles resources, but also brings us automatically closer together”, while Michael Preuss describes the benefits of spatial proximity as follows: “We’re two independent agencies, but have a powerful effect as an overall package.”

Agency potential unleashed

As a creative agency for digital media, MOCCU has been a successful market player since 2000. Its Golden Lion win in Cannes (2001) was followed by further national and international accolades. In addition, co-founder and creative director Jens Schmidt was elected an executive member of the Digital Media Board at ADC Germany (Art Directors Club) in November 2010.

Although solutions agency PREUSS UND PREUSS was launched just last summer, CEOs Nina Preuss (consulting) and Michael Preuss (creation) have nonetheless accumulated an impressive 30 years’ experience in top agencies, including DDB Berlin, Heimat, Butter, Jung von Matt and S&F Berlin. Nina Preuss: “We’ve learned how to create effective advertising. However, we think it’s time for a new agency model. One which works in a flexible, integrated and solution-oriented manner without falling victim to a time-consuming bureaucracy bubble and, above all, thinks media-neutrally.”

The model is having a positive impact – on clients

With their experience, both agencies are now not only offering intra-corporate communication solutions, but, more importantly, solutions from a single source. Initial joint projects for Globalpark, Paypal, WWF and Teamworx have already been wrapped up, and a large-scale international strategic social media project is close to completion. A pitch for a major, Hamburg-based institutional client has just been won, and others are in the pipeline. MOCCU CEO Björn Zaske on the collaboration: “We complement and inspire one another, something which benefits our joint customers, who appreciate our flexibility and clear focus on results.”

Berlin-based creative agency Moccu demonstrates exceptional dedication. After his most recent on-stage appearance at the Art Directors Club (ADC) festival in Frankfurt, Jens Schmidt, Moccu’s co-founder and creative director, now has a series of “home games” lined up. During the upcoming Berlin Web Week, the ADC’s Executive Director for Digital Media will be in action at both the NEXT Conference, the most important European conference hosted by the German digital economy, and at internet congress iico. His presentations, some of which will be delivered jointly with Moccu CEO Björn Zaske, will focus on digital creation and mobile marketing.

The Berlin Web Week will witness the advent of a real event marathon for the digital economy, hosted by the German capital. Experts and enthusiasts alike will have a chance to discuss technology, innovation and the way creativity is applied to online media during over 20 events, spotting trends, forming networks and exchanging know-how and experience in the process.

Jens Schmidt will attend several events during the Berlin Web Week. On May 17, Schmidt will be lecturing at the NEXT Conference 2011 on the theme of “Brands in Motion” in his capacity as Executive Director for Digital Media at the Art Directors Club Germany (ADC) e.V., presenting award-winning concepts, important technical achievements and developments from the online media industry. He will also be participating in a question and answer session during the Online Stammtisch Berlin 3.0, the official event held on the evening preceding the NEXT Conference.

Also on May 17, Jens Schmidt will be informing visitors to the infopark internet congress (iico) of new developments and successful concepts in the field of mobile marketing together with colleague Björn Zaske, CEO of creative agency Moccu.

In a few weeks, Schmidt will be joining other jury members at the 58th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity (June 19 through 25). Here, he will represent Germany, viewing and evaluating projects competing for one of the prestigious Cyber Lion awards. The festival is a major international event in the advertising and communications industry.

Berlin-based internet agency MOCCU will be realizing web analysis projects for L’Oréal Paris from now on, helping the beauty brand with its media optimization. L’Oréal Paris, one of the leading brands in the international beauty segment, aims to increase its advertising and marketing efficiency in online media even further with the aid of MOCCU’s consulting expertise. A longstanding working relationship precedes the allocation of the web analysis portfolio to MOCCU. MOCCU has been developing promotional material, campaigns and other online projects for the cosmetics and beauty products manufacturer for many years.

Of limited use: ad impressions and click rates

Traditional measurement parameters such as ad impressions and click rates have been a topic of discussion for quite some time, and are now only of limited use when it comes to dictating the success of campaigns. MOCCU’s longstanding experience in the field of web analysis for various brands has inspired L‘Oréal Paris to place its trust in the company’s tools and consulting expertise too. The objective? The optimal use of advertising budgets during campaign periods. MOCCU will initially identify users’ application behaviors and interests via post-click analysis in order to reveal potential for improvement.

Promotional material will be used more selectively in order to boost campaign success even further. MOCCU will be collaborating closely with media agency Zed Digital in order to define the key performance indicators (KPIs).

Objective: increasing the marketing ROI

Sven Wiechert, Digital Media Director for L’Oréal Germany, emphasizes the significance of the collaboration with MOCCU: “We are implementing various strategies designed to optimize our online campaigns. Post-click analysis allows us to view the entire user interaction, from perception of the promotional material itself to the achievement of one of the defined objectives and to optimize our landing pages. In this way, we can use online spending in a ROI-optimized manner.”

The main focus was placed on the inclusion of moving images, which formed a central element of the website. Asset management restructuring as regards the administration of films and film archives for Europe’s market leader in the event productions sector was also of prime importance.

Moccu used state-of-the-art, HTML5 enabled TYPO3 architecture, including MVC Frameworks Extbase and Fluid (Template Engine), for the moving images’ technical integration and visualization. The Berliners installed a scalable content delivery network in order to guarantee hitch-free online operations with multiple simultaneous streaming. The newly completed launch of www.teamworx.de was rounded off with a comprehensive search engine optimization. However, future additions to the internet presence are not impossible.

Berlin-based agency Moccu has developed an exclusive social media campaign for L’Oréal Paris, entitled “Become the Face of Sublime Mousse”. Facebook and display advertising are used to invite young women to become the new face of L’Oréal Paris’ hair colorant “Sublime Mousse”. The Facebook community initially chooses the 50 most popular candidates among all the participants. An expert jury subsequently selects five finalists, who are invited to a week-long series of photo and video shoots. Finally, the Facebook community votes for the winner. A contract with modelling agency Louisa Models awaits the successful candidate, who also becomes the face of Sublime Mousse.

Moccu has collaborated with L’Oréal Paris before, creating the online campaign “Flirting in style” and a special promotion celebrating the company’s partnership with the Berlinale film festival. During the social media campaign for L’Oréal Paris, Moccu’s responsibilities included design and realisation. “Become the Face of Sublime Mousse” is the first campaign by L’Oréal Paris in which the media focus is on social networks.
The social community decides

The Sublime Mousse campaign is being run chiefly via Facebook. It is advertised via L’Oréal Paris’ Facebook fan page and a tab. The freely accessible campaign page, which includes deadlines and entry conditions, allows interested candidates to register via Facebook. The promotion is accompanied by a display banner campaign and Facebook ads.
The registration deadline is 20 February 2011. The five finalists – one for each hair colour – will be chosen by the expert jury in the week from 21 – 25 February 2011. The community will then vote for the face of Sublime Mousse between 7 March and 3 April 2011.
Brand dialogue
Tim Berger, Marketing Director at L’Oréal Paris Germany, explains the choice of a social media campaign: “Through our social media campaign in Germany, “Become the Face of Sublime Mousse”, we are offering self-confident young women a highly attractive, exclusive touch point in Facebook, thereby creating an extremely dynamic dialogue between brand and consumer.” The campaign’s success is proving Tim Berger
right: almost 1,000 applicants were online within hours of the launch.

Berlin agency develops virtual project space for EU-wide nature conservation project “surf nature”

Berlin-based agency Moccu has developed a virtual project space designed to network international nature conservation experts for an EU-wide project initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Multilingual website surf-nature.eu, designed by Moccu, forms the basis for this pioneering project. The use of collaboration software facilitated the design of a communications platform which simplifies the exchange of experience between project participants. With this, Moccu has made an important contribution to the promotion of regional politics for the protection of biodiversity and nature.

User-friendly network for environmental protection

Berlin-based creative agency Moccu has realized the WWF project “SURF Nature”, which invites environmentalists from nine different EU member states to share their collective experience with just a few mouse clicks. Moccu aims to create a sustainable, dynamic network which will herald a new collaborative dimension. The shared information system supplies project participants with documents and information 24-7 from web-enabled computers the world over. Additionally, the homogenous file structure eases communication flow and scores points for user-friendliness. The Berlin-based agency customized the system layout in line with participants’ varying technical skills, underscoring its particular strength in the process. Even users without a hotwire to Web2.0 are impressed by the tool’s ease of use.

Collaboration software guarantees transparency and topicality

The way to improve future financial support options for nature conservation and biodiversity within the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) has now been smoothed. The collaborative information system programmed by Moccu ensures that processes, documentation and transparency within the WWF project “SURF Nature” are as up to date as possible.

Creative Director and Co-Founder of MOCCU Aiming to Promote Digital

For the first time, members of the Art Directors Club (ADC) Germany elected the association’s Board of Directors for all categories. As of November 2010, Jens Schmidt, co-founder and Creative Director of MOCCU, will join the extended Board of Directors in the category of Digital Media. A graduate in communication design, Jens Schmidt’s goal is to increase awareness of digital communication both within and outside of the ADC.

”Digital Media is the most dynamic of all ADC categories. In the future, it will completely change communication, marketing and advertising. In my opinion, digital communication is currently not represented by the ADC according to its relevance. Yet the increasing influence of digital media on our communication should be reflected at the ADC as well,“ says Jens Schmidt, main contact for all things digital, about the current situation.
