Data is the crux of what our applications present and that's what we focus on in this session. How can you handle data sensibly and provide flexibility for connected systems through OData? In this talk, we slice and dice OData and discuss why you should care. We take a deep-dive into how almost any data source can be exposed as an OData service and then how you can consume them using specific client libraries. We also take a close look at why OData is important for cross-platform Mobile/Web/(Windows8 perhaps) applications and when leveraging the cloud. The current CTP of the new Windows Azure AppFabric Applications looks to raise the abstraction level and provide a true Platform-as-a-Service. This capability enables you to write an application composed of multiple services from various providers while allowing you to deploy, manage, and scale the application as a single logical application. All of this and a visual model of the application that stays in sync with the code! In this session we’ll take a look at the scenarios and problems Windows Azure AppFabric Applications are looking to solve, the features available in the current CTP, and how to develop and deploy a Windows Azure AppFabric Application.

Presenter Bio
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Michael Collier is a Windows Azure MVP and serves as a National Architect for Neudesic, a Microsoft SI partner that specializes in Windows Azure. In October, Microsoft released BizTalk Server 2010 with several new features such as a new and improved mapper, introduction of a few BizTalk features into WF workflows, a revamped EDI Trading Partner Management (TPM) model, and a new FTPS adapter. On the cloud front, you need to check out all the exciting new features within Azure AppFabric such as Message Buffer, AppFabric Services and the updates to Service Bus. Moreover, Microsoft recognizes that integration will play a large role as customers start moving their applications to the cloud. As a result, a big part of Microsoft's strategy is to address on-premise to cloud connectivity and providing "Integration as a Service" in the Cloud. I encourage you to check out the PDC videos and blog posts below which cover the updates I mentioned above in greater detail.

Microsoft BizTalk Server 2010 and Roadmap (Video)

Changing the Game: BizTalk Server 2010 and the Road Ahead (Post)

BizTalk Server 2010 AppFabric Connect For Services (Post)

Composing Applications with AppFabric Services (Video)

Connecting Cloud & On-Premises Apps with the Windows Azure Platform (Video)

Introduction to Windows Azure AppFabric Caching (Video)

Windows Azure AppFabric Service Bus Futures (Video)

Identity & Access Control in the Cloud (Video)

Windows Azure: Behind the Cloud

Windows Azure: Behind the Cloud
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
When: Thursday October 7th, 2010, 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Where: Microsoft Office - Columbus (Address Below)

Summary
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Learn why Microsoft is "all in" the cloud market and why cloud services are transforming how
applications will be built and deployed. At this meeting, you will hear about Microsoft's vision of Software + Services and what it can mean for you. As part of this presentation, you’ll see a demo of how a cloud application is developed and deployed. Cloud computing has huge implications for both developers and business people. This is your chance to get in on the ground floor and be part of the community that helps pioneer this exciting new area.

Does cloud computing offer anything compelling for you, your business or your customers?

Cloud computing with Windows Azure provides technologists with new options for where applications reside, how applications behave, and the business models that drive them. Cloud computing eliminates the need to predict traffic levels, purchase hardware or hosting capacity in advance, and keep OS’s patched. Applications are given the capacity they need on demand. You only pay for computing and storage you use. Some of the most difficult and costly things to achieve in I.T. such as high availability and ensuring scalability are no longer headaches the enterprise has to deal with. Scalability, reliability, and high availability come with the platform automatically.

Join the Community!
http://cloudcomputingusergroup.com/
http://www.azureusergroup.com/

Presenter: Chad Thomas is a Principal Consultant with Neudesic, and is the Practice Lead for Neudesic East’s Connected Systems Division. In traditional application design, business rules are coded directly into the implementation. Embedding business rules within applications has always been problematic because it compromises the effectiveness and versatility of the application, and consequently the business process the application is meant to enable.

In this session, Monish will show you how the BizTalk Business Rule Engine (BRE) works. You will understand how the BRE is designed to be highly efficient and can process many hundreds or even thousands of rules in a matter of milliseconds. Also, you will learn how you can implement BRE rules in your own applications.

Presenter Bio
Monish Nagisetty is the Practice Lead for the Connected Systems Studio at Quick Solutions. Due to their nature however, web services are not always “business-friendly.” The WS-* specifications provide the extensions that make SOA a viable business platform. But what are these specifications? Where did they come from? Do I really need ALL of them? And how can I leverage this functionality in WCF? This presentation will let you know what the WS-* specifications are and where they came from.
