Carly from Girl Friday painted the fox masks herself and found a fabulous raccoon fur for $8 at a local junk sale. These props pull the session together perfectly, while adding a unique touch.

Today’s wedding combines a classic black and ivory color palette with pops of bright yellow, adding a modern twist. Captured by Alison Mish Photography, Laura and Jack were married on a beautiful day this April in a University chapel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The couple met while attending medical school at Temple University in Philadelphia. They chose to add yellow to the black and ivory color scheme as a nod to their mutual love of the Pittsburgh Penguins ice hockey team. Be sure to read the story of how Laura and Jack met and their inspiration for their wedding day below!

A few words from the bride:

Jack and I met when we first began medical school at Temple in August 2008. We were merely friends until one fateful day in May 2009 when we went for a run together. After those first miles together, I knew I was in trouble…He proposed in September 2012 in Wissahickon Park in Philadelphia. We took our dogs (Rocky & Bullwrinkle) for a walk in the park, something which we did fairly frequently. We stopped in a secluded spot off the trail to check out the creek and when I turned around he was down on one knee with the ring in his hand. It was perfect!

I wanted to something very classy (but not super formal) for the wedding, which is why we went for the black and ivory color scheme. Since the wedding was in Pittsburgh (and it was actually mutual love of the Pittsburgh Penguins which really sealed us together as a couple) we chose yellow as an accent color.

Another wedding bursting with vibrant, summery colors! Captured by Milou + Olin Photography, Natasha and Anthony were married on a sunny June day in an apple orchard in Napa, California. Since Anthony makes wine, the couple incorporated a subtle wine theme into the decor. Guests even received a bottle of homemade wine as a favor! A bright color palette of pink, yellow, and orange made for stunning floral arrangements. This event perfectly coveys a modern, romantic style with a touch of rustic!

A few words from the bride on inspiration:

My husband is a winemaker. So, from the very beginning I knew I wanted to create an aesthetic that incorporated this essence of our lifestyle. I was also very inspired by the beautiful setting of our wedding. The farm element was so charming, and I wanted to tie that into our vintage/bohemian/romantic vibe. It was important to me to incorporate a few DIY elements into the aesthetic, from the escort list, to our favors (homemade wine), to a few pieces of the décor. This was truly a magical evening, and will remember it forever.

I adore the bright, bold green hues used throughout this wedding! Captured by Erin Johnson Photography, Hallie and Kirby were married on a stunning May day in a Lutheran church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following the ceremony, the couple and their guests headed to the unique alumni center at the University of Minnesota for a fun, travel themed reception. I especially love the guest seating map!

A few words from the bride:

Kirby and I met in college at College of St. Benedict / St. John’s University in Minnesota. We were organic chemistry lab partners (insert joke about us having chemistry here). While in college we both studied abroad and fell in love with traveling, which inspired the theme of our wedding.

The focus of our wedding was our family and friends that were joining us to celebrate the start of our married life together. We are blessed to have so many amazing people in our life and we really wanted to have a fun party with all of them and so we focused a lot on our “guest experience”. I wanted the wedding to feel classic, comfortable, and personalized. We tried to incorporate a lot about us through our travel theme. Our wedding was a great day/night, the highlights were our venue, our photographer, and DJ, the dance floor was packed all night!

I love how this engagement session is infused with a sense of humor! Captured by Lori Kennedy Photography, Briana and Carey spent a beautiful October day posing for their engagement session at Millenium Bridge in downtown Denver, Colorado. Briana and Carey had been dating for many years when Carey popped the question, so Briana’s first instinct was to say, “it’s about damned time”! This funny phrase was incorporated into the shoot on speech bubble chalkboards. The photos were used as humorous save-the-date cards to give friends and family a chuckle. Nacho, Briana and Carey’s lab-dane mix also joined in the session, announcing the wedding date with a cute chalkboard sign. The couple will be married this summer at the Denver Art Museum.

This is another wedding filled with happy, bright colors! Captured by Rachel Robertson Photography, Erica and Hans were married on a beautiful August day in an outdoor ceremony in Kapolei, Hawaii. The couple used a bold color palette of coral pink and lime green throughout the wedding attire and decor. I love the whimsical, brightly colored wedding cake and macarons!

A few words from the bride:

We met in June, 2008 in Seattle, WA. Hans moved to Seattle from Minnesota and I moved there from Hawaii, and we began a medical/surgical internship at Virginia Mason Medical Center. We started as friends, exploring a new city together while we had free time away from the hospital, and then we started dating 3 months into our year in Seattle. When the year ended, Hans had to return to Minnesota for his Ophthalmology residency, and I had to move to New Mexico for my dermatology residency. We kept our relationship growing while long distance, and Hans proposed to me while visiting me in Albuquerque in July 2010. We were long distance for 3 years, and then I moved to MN to join Hans after we both finished residency training. We were then married in Hawaii on August 16th, 2012.

The theme of our wedding was elegant yet whimsical.
