True Beauty Zip-Up Hoodie Knit Pattern

Hello Modesty readers!

It's been quite some time since I last wrote a post for this blog! I am back and I am here to introduce the True Beauty Zip-Up Hoodie knitting pattern. Inspired by the Korean drama, True Beauty, I have designed a hoodie that includes a zipper, hood, pockets, and accent stripes.

If you have watched the Korean drama, then you would know that this hoodie resembles the male (Suho) lead's treasured hoodie.

This design was a challenging one for me merely because I had never designed anything with inset pockets, zippers, or working contrast colors in the round. Nevertheless, it was a fun time creating this piece.

True Beauty Zip-Up Hoodie Knit Pattern

To all the K-drama fans out there, the True Beauty Zip-Up Hoodies is a must make. Inspired by Suho's cherished zip-up from True Beauty, this hoodie has it all. The zipper, hood, pockets, and stripes on the sleeve are all there, just like Suho's. The hoodie is perfect for those chillier days. So grab a pair of jeggings and match them with this true beauty.

The Pattern

The True Beauty Zip-Up Hoodie is an intermediate knit pattern that includes some hand sewing involved. The pattern is worked up in Lion Brand's Superwash Merino.

The hoodie includes a hood, pockets, and a zipper. The body panels are worked flat and seamed together later. The pockets are knitted right onto the back panel and then seamed onto the front panels before seaming the sides of the body. The sleeves are worked in the round and set into the armhole. The hood is knitted from the stitches of the body panels that were held on stitch holders. Once the hood is completed, and i-Cord edging is knitted before attaching the zipper.

The pattern is offered in 8 bust sizes: 32, 34, 38, 42, 46, 50, 54, 58

The hoodie has a positive ease of approximately 5 inches around the bust and 2 inches in the sleeves. The sleeves are designed long and will go beyond wrist length.

Design Story

Have you seen the K-drama True Beauty? If you haven't, you are missing out! It's a drama that I consider to be one of the best that came out this year.. for me, at least. It kept me laughing the entire way through. There are some sad parts to this story but overall, it was an enjoyable watch with lots of hilarious scenes.

I loved it so much that I actually took up reading the webtoon in the book format. I'm not great at reading books via electronics so I purchased what books were available (and a very hefty cost since they were shipped from Korea).

After watching this K-drama multiple times, I was inspired to design Suho's cherished zip-up hoodie. There is an extra touch to the ribbings for this hoodie but everything else remains very similar to Suho's hoodie.

The Wildflower Cardi crochet pattern is an intermediate pattern that shows off beautiful flower motifs. This fairly quick crochet pattern is the perfect garment to throw over a spring dress or even a tank top with a pair of shorts.

The Pattern

The Wildflower Cardi an intermediate crochet pattern that will require some concentration in the beginning but eventually will come with ease as you work through the repeats. This pattern has an eight-row repeat and shows a beautiful flower stitch throughout. Three panels are crocheted: the back, left and right front panels. Seaming with a tapestry needle will not be required because the panels are seamed by single crocheting the edges together.

The Wildflower Cardi crochet pattern is a very detailed pattern that has gone through multiple calculations to be size-inclusive. With its large number of stitch repeats, the motif had to be broken down to match measurements.

The cardigan has a positive ease of 6-8 inches, which is roughly 3-4 inches of positive ease for the back panel. The front panels are purposely shorter in width to leave it as an open cardigan.

The yarn used for this cardigan was Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek DK. Although this yarn has been categorized as a yarn weight of 3, it is more like a category 2. I highly recommend using a fingering weight yarn for this pattern.

Blocking is required to reveal the beautiful wildflowers.

The Design Story

The Wildflower Cardigan was an original piece that I designed that was supposed to be featured on Yarn Punk in the summer of 2020. However, due to the pandemic, the creator behind this blog, Vincent, offered that I keep the design for myself in hopes to help my business during difficult times.

Crochet lacework was something that I never thought I would do but I wanted to design something that was elegant and yet made a statement for the spring/summertime. I am happy that I took on the challenge of designing this piece as it is a beautiful addition to any spring or summer look.

The Wildflower Cardi design was finished last year and only now coming out for spring this year. The truth is, I was really scared to have this design tested because of the intricate grading that had to take place in order to offer the many sizes.

I'm happy to report that testing for this pattern was one of the smoothest tests that I've hosted. Down below, you can view the beautiful Wildflower Cardis that my wonderful testers have made.

The Pattern

The Winter Sonata Cocoon is a beginner-friendly knit pattern that includes a few intermediate techniques. The pattern is worked up in Lion Brand's Hometown USA and includes four different knit textures.

The cocoon is worked flat and then later worked in the round for the collar and the sleeves. You begin the cocoon starting with a provisional cast-on working the entire diamond motif of the back to the end of one sleeve. Later the provisional cast-on stitches are picked up and the remainder of the back and second sleeve are knitted.

The pattern is offered in 3 sizes: S/M, L/XL, and 2/3XL.

Design Story

Have you ever heard of the Kdrama Winter Sonata? Are you guessing what I think you're guessing? Yes, this cocoon was named with that Kdrama in mind. It was one of the very few Kdramas I remember watching in my teenage years. The sceneries that were shot for the Winter Sonata (Korean drama) made me want to hibernate. With the setting taking place in winter and with lots of snow, the Winter Sonata Cocoon reminded me of what I was missing while watching this drama, a cozy blanket-like garment.

After making your own, I can guarantee you that you will want to snuggle up in your Winter Sonata Cocoon all winter long.

The Pattern

The Briar Rose Pullover is an intermediate knit pattern. The pullover itself is a fitted sweater with very little or no ease. Lion Brand's Color Made Easy, which is a bulky weight category 5 yarn, was used to work up this sweater. Unfortunately, Lion Brand has discontinued this yarn. At the end of this post, you can explore some of the other yarns my testers have used for knitting up the Briar Rose Pullover.

This design is knitted bottom-up and displays a beautiful knotted cable on the left and right of the front panel. Sleeves are also knitted bottom-up and are designed to be set-in sleeves. Front and back panels, as well as sleeves, are seamed together and stitches are picked up for the collar.

Final bust sizes include: 32(35, 39, 43, 47, 51, 54).

Design Story

This simple yet elegant pullover was designed specifically for my mother who requested a pullover for Christmas... from two Christmases ago. 😅 I finally got around to designing this piece for her and she is loving it very much. She wears it quite often as the yarn has been keeping her nice and warm through 2020/2021's very cold winter.

The Briar Rose Pullover is my first knit pullover design. Since this sweater was designed for my mother, I wanted to design something that was a little more than just something simple. I added the knotted cable to add a simple touch to a plain pullover.

The Pattern

The Holly Scarf is an easy beginner-friendly knit pattern that only uses the garter and ribbing stitches. It is a fun and quick weekend project that assure you warmth through the winter months. It is the perfect accessory for the winter.

The Design Story

The Holly Scarf was designed alongside the Holly Earmuffs. I was asked to collaborate with a group of Asian designers for a Lunar New Year's crochet giveaway and added this beginner-friendly scarf with the Holly Earmuffs for the winners to have a free knit pattern to try out.

Sometimes I meet new makers that only know how to do one or the other and I am always excited to hear when a maker is determined to learn the other art. To encourage the mentality of wanting to learn a new yarn craft, I designed a knit pattern to throw in the mix of crochet patterns.

Materials

-25 yards of Lion Brand Go For Faux Thick & Quick

-40 yards of Lion Brand Vianna’s Choice

-9.0mm and 15.0mm knitting needles or whatever needles that will meet the gauge

-tapestry needle

Notes

All dimensions of this scarf can be altered.

To add more or less width to the scarf, simply cast on more or less (odd number of stitches).

To adjust any of the lengths, whether the ribbing or the faux yarn, knit more for longer and less for shorter.

With 9.0mm needles, hold two strands of Vanna’s Choice and cast on 7.

Design Story

If you are as big of a Korean drama fan as I am, you may have recognized more crochet and knitted items making the screen. And boy do I get super excited when the lead men of these K-dramas pick up knitting needles and start to knit and purl.

The Holly Earmuffs were inspired by the granny square earmuffs that have been getting quite popular in South Korea. To provide some fun to my design and definitely extra heat, I used faux fur yarn. In the past, I used faux yarn to create a keyhole type scarf called the Polar Bow Tie Scarf. If you are someone who gets easily cold, this scarf will do the job and keep your neck nice and warm.

The Pattern

The one-hour Holly Earmuffs pattern is crocheted using Lion Brand's Go For Faux Thick and Quick as well as Vanna's Choice. Both the motif and inner earpiece (faux fur) are crocheted separately and then sewn together later. The headpiece and straps are seamlessly crocheted to complete the project.

Notes

-When bottom straps are tied, the headpiece will stretch a bit, so take into consideration when crocheting the length of the headpiece.

Earpiece (Make 2)

With your 10.0mm hook and Go For Faux yarn, make a magic circle and chain 3. Make 11 triple crochets into the circle. Slip stitch into the 2nd ch of the beginning chain 3. Fasten off. Close the circle by pulling the beginning yarn and weave in the ends.

Headpiece

With 6.0mm hook and worsted weight yarn, slip stitch 6 times into the top of one earpiece with worsted weight yarn.

Row 1: ch1, sc across

Row 2: ch2 (counts as a st), *skip a st and dc in the next st, dc into the skipped st; repeat from * one more time, dc in the last st (6)

Repeat rows 1 and 2 to desired length to reach the opposite inner earpiece. (Take into consideration that when worn, the headpiece will stretch slightly when the earmuff is tied under the chin.) Slip stitch the strap to the opposite earmuff. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Bottom Straps

Take an earpiece and slip stitch 6 times with worsted weight yarn directly opposite from the headpiece.

Row 1: ch1, sc across

Row 2: ch2 (counts as a st), *skip a st and dc in the next st, dc into the skipped st; repeat from * one more time, dc in the last st (6)

Repeat rows 1 and 2 to desired length.

Repeat this on the opposite side. Crochet straps long enough to tie a ribbon under the chin.

*MOTIF (Make 2)

With your 6.0mm hook and worsted weight yarn, make a magic circle and chain 3 (counts as a double crochet and a chain 1).

Round 1: *dc, ch1; repeat for a total of 10 times, slst into the 2nd ch of the beginning ch3 (11dc, 11 chsps)

Round 2: slst into the first chsp, ch5 (counts as a dc and ch2), *dc in the next chsp, ch2; repeat from * to

the end of the round; slst into the 3rd ch of the beginning ch5

Round 3: ch3, *puff st in the next ch2 sp, ch3, slst in the next dc**, ch3; repeat from * to the end ending repeat at **

Fasten off and cut off a 40 inch tail for sewing.

Take the motifs and sew them onto the earpieces following the outline of the motif. Don’t be afraid of the opposite side. The faux yarn can be fluffed to cover the worsted weight yarn.

The Pattern

The Acorn Cardigan is an advanced-beginner bulky weight knitting pattern. The cardigan has a positive ease of 6 inches in the bust and positive ease of an inch in the arms. The body is worked bottom-up and the sleeves are worked in the round. All pieces are seamed together and stitches are picked up for the collar.

Design Story

The Acorn Cardigan was designed specifically for my aunt who enjoys receiving handmade garments by yours truly. I tried knitting her a cardigan designed by another blogger. Unfortunately, the fit wasn't right and my aunt and I both agreed that I should do the designing of her next best and favorite cardigan.

So, what did I do? Yes, I unraveled that whole cardigan stitch by stitch. It hurt to see each stitch disappear as I pulled the yarn but something great came out of that yarn.

The yarn used for this knit project was Lion Brand's Color Made Easy in Kombucha. It is a bulky weight yarn that works up quickly and does great in both the washer and dryer.

The Silver Lining Cardigan is an intermediate worsted weight knitting pattern that has a positive ease of 8-10 inches in the bust and positive ease of 2-3 inches in the arms. The body is worked bottom-up and the sleeves are worked in the round. The sleeves are set-in and are designed with sleeve caps. All pieces are seamed together and stitches are picked up for the collar. The motif that runs up and down the two front panels is the King Charles stitch.

The pattern is offered in sizes XS/S, M/L, and XL/2XL.

In a world that sells sex through all platforms of media, I strive to create designs that convince ladies everywhere that you do not need to wear less to be sexy. You can still be this beautiful person without having to show off every bit of skin that you have. What makes you beautiful is what is inside: your humble heart.

Cheese in the Trap Cardi Knit Pattern

What comes to mind when you think of cheese? Maybe swiss cheese? Inspired by the Korean drama, movie, and webtoon, I present to you the Cheese in the Trap Cardi. This cheesy, cozy, fitted knit cardigan is the perfect garment in cool fall weather.

The Pattern

The Cheese in the Trap Cardi is a fitted cardigan worked bottom-up with set-in sleeves with 2 strands held together. The yarn used was Yarn Bee 44th Street in Mustard. Roughly 2,000 yards of yarn are needed to complete the only size offered at the moment. The yarn is considered a category 3 (DK) but is a thinner DK weight yarn and can be found at Hobby Lobby.

The Cheese in the Trap Cardi is only offered in size XS/S. Unfortunately, I was unable to figure out the math for this particular design specifically because of the front panels. I am hoping to figure out the grading for this irresistible cardigan next spring. Stay tuned!

Design Story

I was inspired to design this cardigan after watching both the Korean drama and movie of the webtoon, Cheese in the Trap. I had originally thought of making this cardigan a plain yellow garment but another big-time blogger came out with something similar. To not become a "copy-cat", I decided to design my cardigan more fitting to the name I decided to give it.

When I think of cheese, Swiss cheese always comes to mind which happens to be one of my favorite cheeses. (Brie cheese comes in first place in my heart though.) To represent that holey Swiss cheese, I used the beautiful diamond lace stitch to complete the look.

A lot of time was spent calculating out this detailed garment and I am truly pleased with the way it came out.

The Cheese in the Trap Cardi was a fun design to create and also my favorite out of all the garments that I have designed thus far. Because of this, it makes me sad that I am not able to have this pattern size inclusive. (One day, it will. I promise.)

Design Story

The Middleton Market Bag was designed last year along with two other crochet bags. The Middleton Bag Collection came about because I was at a loss for inspiration for summer wear. So, I visited the world of accessories. The Middleton Market Bag went through not 1, not 2, but 4 revisions. It was a learning experience and I enjoyed designing the perfect market mesh bag.

The Pattern

This crochet pattern is quick and beginner-friendly. It is constructed from the bottom-up starting with a magic circle and slowly making its way up with multiple chains.

-1 skein of Bernat Maker Home Dec

-8mm hook

-tapestry needle

Abbreviations

MR- magic ring

ch-chain

chsp-chain space

dc-double crochet

hdc-half double crochet

sc- single crochet

sc2tog-single crochet 2 together

Gauge

10 sts and 8.5 rows is 4”.

Notes

The bag is worked in rounds. It is highly recommended that you use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.

The chain 2 in the beginning counts of each round counts as a stitch.

Pattern

Create a Magic Ring

Round 1: ch 2, dc in the MR, *ch 2, 2dc cluster* repeat for a total of 4 times, ch2, slst at the top of the ch 2, turn your work (5 chsps)

Pull the MR closed.

The Pattern

The Monarch Beanie is worked up in a main and a contrasting color. It is worked from the bottom up and in the round making it an almost seamless project. A little seaming is required at the top of the hat. The hat is worked up with Lion Brand's Vanna's Choice but any worsted weight can be used to make this beanie.

This winter hat provides lots of texture starting from the ribbing at the base and textured front post double crochets in the body of the hat. This stitch gives it a very unique look.

Here is my youngest son enjoying the hat indoors. I've made beanies for my kids before but they really gravitated towards this particular hat.

Design Story

The Monarch Beanie was designed specifically for an event called the Crochet for a Cause which was hosted by Ashley of Edyth Blayn. The event was to crochet as many scarves and hats to give away to a local charity so that those in need could receive one. It was an amazing event and I feel blessed to have been a part of it.

Honey Bee Scarf Crochet Pattern

The Honey Bee Scarf crochet pattern is a quick and beginner-friendly design that has the option of using one or two skeins of Lion Brand's Basic Stitch. With the help of open lacework, the scarf comes out with a nice drape.

It is a great winter accessory and this could easily be turned into a nice rectangle wrap by repeating the rows of this pattern.

The yarn used for this scarf is by far my favorite yarn that they have come out with yet, at least the ones that I have tried.

The basic stitch yarn is a worsted weight that has 185 yards and anti-pilling, which is a plus in my book! They offer an array of color choices so I hope you can find a color that pleases you.

If you are wondering about the color choice I made for my Honey Bee Scarf, it is in Gold Heather. It has a mustard color mixed with some brown.

The Aisling Scarf by The Cozy Chipmunk

Not too long ago I had the pleasure of testing for the amazing Laura from The Cozy Chipmunk. She is a sweet friend of mine and one of the very first designers I met in my maker journey. She designs more Amigurumi patterns but has recently ventured into making wearable items!

The pattern I tested was the Aisling Scarf. It was such a fun experience as it was my first time ever testing for a designer. Sure, I have made many things designed by others but never tested an unreleased pattern before. I hope to test for more designers including for Laura in the future as it was a pleasant and relaxing experience.

The Aisling Scarf is easily a weekend project. With its fun bead and cross stitches, you really can't get bored with this one. I used Lion Brand's Heartland for this project which made the gauge a little different from what was suggested. Being a scarf, I wasn't too concerned with that and was really pleased with the way it came out.

I was happy to do a little photoshoot for the Aisling Scarf. Enjoy the silly pictures of me and yes, I realize these pictures will last forever on the internet but we all gotta live a little, right? Haha..

Don't mind the tired look. The two weeks that this scarf was in testing, I was also scrubbing, cleaning and packing my house to prepare it for selling. What great timing we had (being sarcastic here)! For those who may end up reading this way in the future... we are currently enduring a pandemic and practicing social distancing which has put showing the house on the back burner. Meanwhile, almost all of my yarn is packed away in boxes and yarn that's been ordered is taking quite a bit of time to ship. Clearly, yarn should never be packed away. 🤣

K-Pop Mask Knit Pattern

Are you a K-Pop fan? Then you are in good company cause I am an OG (original) K-popper. I guess it helps that I'm also of Korean decent so my parents listened to Korean music and I just grew up listening to it.

If you have missed out on the original K-Pop Mask (crochet version), you can find it HERE. It is a black K-Pop mask with an optional bear motif made using acrylic yarn.

The K-Pop Mask in this blog post is a knit pattern with a heart motif. Taking those with sensitive skin into consideration, I decided to design this mask with Lion Brand's 24/7 Cotton yarn. The mask is more rigid with this yarn so if you decide to knit this one and don't necessarily have sensitive skin, you can choose to knit with a different yarn that's close to the given gauge for this pattern.

I want to note here before you decide to buy this premium pattern that the K-Pop Masks (crochet and knit) are in no way, shape or form able to protect you against the Coronavirus. IT WILL NOT PROTECT YOU FROM THE CORONAVIRUS. This mask is strictly a K-Pop fan mask.

I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty late in the game with becoming a fan of BTS. I've always been more stuck with the older K-Pop groups and Eric Nam (of course). If you don't follow me on Instagram then you probably didn't see this photo:

YES! I finally met my favorite K-Pop artist of all time last month and gave him a mostly Tunisian crochet blanket of his logo that I personally made for him.

How did it feel to meet the K-Pop artist I admire the most? Pretty surreal! I had so much to say and so little time. I literally blanked out and tried to spat out most of the important things I wanted to tell him. But the one thing I forgot to tell him was my name! HAHAHA. Will he remember my face? I have no idea but I truly hope that he will.

Homeschooled Cardigan Knit Pattern

Wow! It has been quite a journey designing and having this pattern tested. The first time I shared the Homeschooled Cardigan on any of my social platforms was on October 20, 2019 and this was a few weeks after finishing it. The one I am wearing in the pictures on this post was the second time designing this particular garment. I still have the original one in the house but wear the second one I knitted the most, mainly because it fits a lot better on me.

This cardigan has been named the Homeschooled Cardigan. If you follow me on Instagram or have read my About Me page on my blog, you probably figured out that I am not only a fiber artist but also a homeschooling mother to three kids. When homeschool was in session, I knitted to keep my hands busy and this is what came out!

The design itself is very basic in nature and it truly is a quick knit for a cardigan. The whole body portion of the garment is knitted from the bottom up. It is knitted up to the underarms and then split into three sections- front right, back, front left. After the body panel is complete, the arms and collar are knitted and sewn on.

The testing group for this cardigan was the most amazing group of girls I have worked with since becoming a designer. They all raved about the pattern and more than half of them have made two or more of the cardigan. I was so, so grateful for all the love they gave this cardigan pattern and I hope that it will be a pattern that you decide to take a chance on and try and love.

Elsa Shawl Knit Pattern

The Elsa Shawl is a knit wrap that uses Yarn Bee's Marblesque. This yarn is considered a worsted weight yarn so if this yarn is not available near you, I recommend looking for a thinner worsted weight yarn.

The beautiful lace work that is worked on this shawl is called the twin leaf lace panel. The look of this lacing reminded me of the way the snow and ice whisked whenever Elsa used her powers. Hence, this shawl was so named the Elsa Shawl.

I am not a shawl wearer but lately I have been really enjoying designing them so I can guarantee that more shawl designs will be coming out this year.

In this blog post, you will find picture tutorials to guide you through the garter tab cast on and the i-cord bind off which are both used in this shawl.

Garter Tab Cast On

Cast on 3.
Row 1-6: Knit

Rotate your work 90 degrees, pick up 3 stitches with your left needle and knit.

You should now have 6 stitches on your right needle.

Rotate your work 90 degrees again and pick up 3 stitches with your left needle. Knit.

You should now have 9 stitches on your right hand needle.

You have successfully completed the garter tab cast on.

I-Cord Bind Off

Cast on 2 stitches.

To cast on, knit the first stitch on your left needle as you normally would.

Instead of slipping off the knitted stitch, leave it on your left hand needle and slip the stitch that you created on your right hand needle to your left.

Repeat once more for a total of two stitches casted on.

*Knit 2. Then knit the next 2 stitches together through the back loops.

To perform this, take your right needle and slip your needle from the back through the second stitch and then in through the first. Knit as you normally would.

The pictures below are pictures of how k2togtbl looks like. These pictures were not taken during the i-cord bind off but k2tbl is performed the same way.

Repeat from * til you have 3 sts in total left, slip the 3 stitches on your right hand needle to the left hand needle, k2togtbl, k1, slip last 2 sts back to the left hand needle, k2togtbl, Fasten off.

La Vie En Rose Shawl Knit Pattern

Are you looking for a one cake (skein) project? The La Vie En Rose Shawl is the perfect knit project for you.

The knit pattern calls for one cake of Caron Latte Cake. The yarn itself is super soft and I really enjoyed working with it. Another yarn that is similar to this yarn is Red Heart's Hygge yarn. They are similar; however, the thickness of the yarn is a little different.

Caron Latte Cake is a bit thinner than the Red Heart Hygge. If you are unable to find the Caron Latte Cake (which seems to be a seasonal yarn that only comes out in the winter time), you can substitute with Red Heart Hygge if you don't mind the slight gauge difference. You will end up with a slightly larger shawl. I actually have an extra skein of Red Heart Hygge from my Homeschool Cardigan design so I will likely make another lovely shawl with it.

The only downside to using the Hygge yarn for this project is that they only come in one solid color whereas Caron Latte Cakes come with color changes.

Mountain Breeze Pullover Knit Pattern

Wow! I can't believe I'm sitting down and writing this blog post on the Mountain Breeze Pullover. I started designing this oversized knit pullover pattern almost a year ago. Yes, it took me that long. In September of last year (2019), I sat down and thought to myself that I should probably finish up this work in progress.

The Mountain Breeze Pullover made it's first appearance on my socials in October, tested in December and now finally debuting as my very first knit designed garment. What do you think?

The sweater was made using Lion Brand's Jeans yarn. It's a thinner worsted weight yarn so if you're looking for an advanced beginner knit pattern, look no further and try this pattern out. The yarn itself is very soft and it comes out beautifully knit.

Every 24 rows and 18 stitches equals 4 inches.

Measurements

Measurements are rough estimates as reading can vary depending on how you spread your work. The pieces can stretch fairly easily so as long as your work is roughly around the measurements you’ll be okay.

Back Panel= S/M (27.3” length, 28.25” wide) L/XL (27.5” Length, 29.25” Width), 2XL/3XL (27.8” length, 30.25” in width)

Front Panel= S/M (22.5” length, 28.25” wide), L/XL (22.8” length, 29.25” width), 2XL/3XL (23” length, 30.25” width)

Sleeves- S/M (16.3”), L/XL (16.3”), 2XL/3XL (16.6”)

Armhole depth- S/M (7.75”), L/XL (8.75”), 2XL/3XL (9.75”)

Notes

-The sleeves are purposely designed to be longer than the normal arm length. If you would like them to be at wrist length, simply knit fewer rows.

-Everything is customizable for lengths. You can simply knit more or less rows to achieve your desired length.

-This pattern has a positive ease of 8-9 inches. If you’d like a smaller positive ease, size down.

Earl Grey Scarf Knit Pattern

Introducing the first knit pattern of year 2020: The Earl Grey Scarf.

The knit Earl Grey Scarf pattern is a beautiful gender neutral scarf that uses the eyelet lattice insertion stitch. I wanted to design a scarf that would suit my grandfather so I planned on a criss-cross look and I am very pleased by it's turn out.

Growing up in a Korean home, my brother and I were taught to bring a box of fruit or some food to offer to the people we were visiting. (When I lived in Korea to teach, parents always brought a little gift or something yummy to eat; this may have been when my donut obsession began as it was a common snack that was gifted.) This past Christmas I decided to bring him something handmade. As the years go by, we've noticed that his appetite for food has dwindled a lot. My father mentioned that food goes bad in the fridge all the time because my grandfather just cannot finish the food that is bought. So this year, I gifted him the Earl Grey Scarf.

I love how you can wear a traditional scarf in so many different ways. The pictures I took for this scarf, I wore it the two most common ways I like to wrap my scarf. But trust me, there are still so many different ways to use your scarf.

Premium Crochet Pattern-- Pumpkin Spice Cocoon

Meet the Pumpkin Spice Cocoon everyone! I just love designing cocoons. Not only pretty but really practical. Just throw on a shrug over your clothes and BAM! You got a complete ensemble. The crochet cocoon has the most amazing texture. It really pops and there's just no way you won't get compliments wearing it.

It's been a while since I picked up my crochet hook and designed something. I've been hooked on knitting lately but I knew that I needed to make a new crochet design. I love how quick crochet is. It takes me a fraction of the time to design a crochet garment than it does knitting for the obvious reason that you can double up on the height of the stitches with crochet. Don't get me wrong though. It took me awhile to get this design together. I frogged it 4 times total. People don't call me the frogging queen for nothing. I had this cocoon nearly finished and then frogged the entire thing because I was not happy with the way it came out especially with my gauge.

Who here is a tight crocheter? I definitely lean towards the side of being a tight crocheter and had to learn how to loosen up. I would always start off great only to find out that I would crochet tighter and tighter as the rows continued.

Anyways, I hope that you enjoy this crochet pattern. And remember tight crocheters, relax and let it loose when you crochet cause you'll definitely need it for this one.

If you are unfamiliar with the foundationless double crochet, chain in multiples of 8 + 8. Double crochet into the 4^th ch from your hook and double crochet to the end of the row.

Beginning ch 2 counts as a half double crochet throughout.

Do not crochet into the stitch, the beginning chains stem off from.

Summer Night Shawl Crochet Pattern

The Summer Night Shawl is a special pattern that I worked on for quite a while. Not because it was hard but because I was not satisfied with the overall look. A lot of frogging and a lot of walking away were involved in the making of this shawl.

There is a lot of beautiful texture in the Summer Night Shawl. One of my testers mentioned that there was a lot of movement and changes in the pattern so she never got bored once while making it.

Free Crochet Pattern-- Soot Sprite Dish Scrubby

If you have been following me on Instagram for a while, you probably know that I taught summer school at my church this past summer. I taught kindergarten and worked with co-teachers that are very big fans of anime and manga. I have never seen Totoro in my 30 some years and watched it for the first time in summer school. What a fun movie!

After watching it once, I drove out to the store with my kids and bought the movie so that my kids could watch it at home too. They loved it and Totoro has become a favorite in our house.

Soot sprites are little dirt gremlins in the movie. Despite their dirty nature, I decided to make a dish sponge in hopes to "make them clean". I hope you enjoy this pattern!

Pattern

Materials

-1skein of Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle in colors licorice and marshmallow

-6.0mm hook

-stitch marker

-tapestry needle

Abbreviations

MR- magic ring

ch-chain

sc- single crochet

hdc-half double crochet

dc-double crochet

trc-triple crochet

st-stitch

sts-stitches

slst-slip stitch

Gauge

10 sts and 3.5 rows equals 2 inches

Measurements

Diameter length is 4 inches

Notes

-Pattern is worked in rounds.

-Using a stitch marker to mark the 2^nd ch of your beginning ch2 is encouraged, as finding can be a little difficult.

The Body

Using your licorice color, make a MR.

Round 1: ch2, 12 dc into the MR, slst to the top of the ch2 (13)

Close your MR by pulling on the tail. You may make a knot to keep the ring closed.

Round 2: ch2, dc in the same st where your ch 2 is coming from, 2 dc in all sts to the end, slst to the top of the ch2 (26)

Round 3: ch 2, 2 dc in the next st, *dc in the next st, 2 dc in the following st* repeat to the end, slst to the top of the ch2 (39)

Round 4-5: ch 2, dc in each st to the end of the round, slst to the top of the ch2 (39)

Round 6: ch 2, dc decrease,* dc in the next st, dc decrease* repeat to the end, sl st to the top of the ch2 (26)

Round 7: ch2, dc in the next st, dc decrease to the end, slst to the top of the ch2 (14)

Round 8: ch2, dc in the next st, dc decrease, *dc in the next st, dc decrease in the following st* repeat til you have 2 sts left, dc decrease, slst into the top of the ch2 (9)

Fasten off and close the circle. Knot it off and weave in your end.

Flatten your sponge.

Eyes

Using the licorice color, make a MR.

Round 1: ch 1 (doesn’t count as a st), 6 sc into the MR (6)

Round 2: switch to color marshmallow, ch 1 (counts as a st), sc in the same st where your ch 1 comes out from, 2 hdc in the next st, 2 dc in the next, 2 trc in the next st, 2 dc in the following st, 2 hdc in the next, slst to the top of the ch1 (12)

Fasten off and leave a tail to sew your eye onto the body of the scrubby.

Using your tapestry needles, sew on your eyes. The eyes should be sown on with the pupils closest to the middle of the body of the sponge, making the soot sprite look like it’s crossed eyed. Be sure to only go through the top layer of the sponge so that you don’t have random marshmallow yarn on the body.
