After Kelantan, Penang, Kedah, Selangor..... now it's my time to rejoice!

DAP-PKR-PAS to form gov’t in Perak - 4.01am
The combined opposition of DAP, PKR and PAS said that they will form the new government in Perak. Collectively the three parties have won 30 seats (DAP - 18, PKR - 6, PAS - 6) out of 59 seats. One seat (Teja) is yet to be decided.

However, the opposition still will have a narrow one-seat majority even if Teja goes to BN. About 50 opposition supporters are attempting to seal off the state government building in Ipoh to stop documents from being removed.

The makkal shakthi tsunami is too much to bear for the BN I suppose. Congrats to all those who win and hope you will serve for the rakyat.

What a time! I can't believe this. BN had been denied the 2/3 majority in the parliament. Several big names fallen and most importantly Samy Velu beaten in Sungai Siput. What more you want being a Perakian?

Being a Malaysian for 30 years... I'm proud to say Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

Finally the Indelible Ink is Lost!

The Election Commission has cancelled the use of indelible ink for this general election, citing public order and security issues.

The stunning announcement was made at a press conference in Putrajaya this afternoon - four days before polling.
EC chairperson Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said the commission was obliged to make a "firm and final decision to ensure the smooth conduct of the 12th general election".
According to Abdul Rashid, the use of the indelible ink could infringe the constitutional right of a voter to cast his vote, especially if the commission tries to bar someone from voting for having an ink marked in his finger.

"From a practical point of view, the issuance of a ballot paper to such a voter would render the EC's proposal meaningless and will not bring about a positive result, whilst having the potential to create misunderstanding as well as altercations and arguments at polling stations," he said.

Ah! Perfect reason by the EC chief that it would create confusion and misunderstanding at the polls station. But.. what confusion? What misunderstanding?

Definitely it will creates confusion lah if you're a 'pengundi hantu' and you just voted early in the morning at one constituency and after taking your free lunch provided by those you know who and trying to made your second attempt to vote at another constituency with your finger marked with the ink. I mean, by what else can be the confusion came from, Rashid?

Can you imagine the logic EC chief using when he said that the Federal Constitution gives Malaysians the right to vote and a black mark on the fingernail should not bar people from exercising this right. He also further claims that loophole can only be removed with a constitutional amendment, which requires a vote by parliament, which has been dissolved for elections to take place.

My question is why on earth a sane person who wants sincerely votes on the coming election, would want to mark his finger with the ink and being barred from voting in the polls station. Would you Malaysians do those things? Are Malaysians that stupid according to Rashid?
Biadap!

Just as the Ashabul Fil were ‘jealous’ of Mecca’s success in attracting religious pilgrims to its temple of worship, Umno is also itching to take over Kelantan to reap its untapped economic potential for its own gain, said Nik Aziz.

However, just as the chieftain of Mecca at the time could not dream of winning over his much larger and better equipped foreign foe,Nik Aziz said Kelantanese have only God to invoke to “defend the leadership of th e ulama in Kelantan”.

“They fight us with (their) radio programmes, yet they do not give us a permit for (for a radio station). They fight us with television (programmes), yet they do not give us permits for television stations. They fight us with money, (but) we don’t have money,” he said.

“Oh my Lord, I am incapable of defending Your religion in Kelantan, because they are attacking the leadership there in all sorts of ways. We ask that You defend your religion in Kelantan as You defended the Kabah against the Ashabul Fil!”.

If you Kelantanese people don't go and vote there, then somebody else is willing to go there and vote for you. There had been reports saying that PAS has proof of an alleged plan byBarisan Nasional (BN) to bring in voters from outside to cast their ballots in Kelantan and Terengganu.

PAS today claimed that it has proof of an alleged plan by Barisan Nasional (BN) to bring in voters from outside to cast their ballots in Kelantan and Terengganu.
At a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, press secretary to PAS president Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir and PAS Youth secretary Ahmad Sabki Yusof said they have received information regarding this.
They said PAS has been tipped off on the schedule of the buses which will allegedly ferry this voters from other states, including university students.
According to the duo, BN will be allegedly paying these voters between RM300 and RM600 per person.

Remember 2004? PAS managed only one seat more than BN to retain the Kelantan state in their grip. I assume that it was the 'over confidence' of the Kelantanese people staying abroad who neglected their responsibility in the last election which has cost them dearly!

So, this time around Kelantanese people, don't let the banana 'berbuah untuk kali kedua' !

Will the Buntong Indians still throw their votes for BN again? Malaysiakini did spotted the Buntong Indians in their news recently. It has been a tradition for Ipoh being a stronghold of the opposition party. In the 70's when Ipoh under the grips of People's Progresive Party (an opposition party than), the predominantly Chinese voters voted for the famous D. R. Seenivasagam and S. P. Seenivasagam brothers.

I'm those who have been living in Ipoh after those PPP's famous brother's era for some times already and lots of my Indians friends are from Buntong, Ipoh. This is the place where Indians are predominant (about 46% of voters) in Malaysia. Apart from that Chinese made of 47% and the remaining are Malays.

If the Chinese majority sentiments for DAP were taken into account, then BN will have slim chance in Buntong. But that was not the case always here since the Indians somehow clinch it for the BN. For most Indians here, it's BN and MIC who can solve their problems.

In the last elections DAP came close with their candidate A Sivasubramaniam who lost to Yik Phooi Hong by 2382 votes. Siva will be given another chance in Buntong this time but he will take on MCA's newcomer Lee Tung Lai and the incumbent Yik will move to Ipoh Barat federal seat to contest against the current MP Kula of DAP.

In the past few months the tempo in Buntong seems to swing back against the BN, especially since the recent Hindraf showdown in Kuala Lumpur has awaken the Indians by large. Now we can see the Indians came out openly and boldly critics the ruling BN even in marketplace and coffee shops. A phenomenon! Since being a small kid living in Ipoh, I knew that Indians here are so damn loyal to BN and MIC. My late mother, will ask me to 'shut up' if I say something wrong about MIC leaders or BN leaders. She will futher says 'you young people are so damn ungrateful' towards your leaders. Haha... It's like dat lah!

In recent times, Indians changed and their fondness towards the BN seems to fade away! What make the Indians tick? I don't know! But, recently Indians in Buntong had gone a milestone when they bravely booed and jeered the Perak M.B and MIC chief of Perak. Even eggs had been thrown at the stage where the leaders were attending a session meeting up the people. Now it's like dat lah!

Lee said "it should be okay" when asked on his chances of retaining the seat for Barisan and that his track record as a local activist would bode well to win substantial support of Buntong's 10,190 Chinese electorate.
However, he appeared less confident when quizzed about Indian voters.
"There will be a difference (in the way they vote this time)," said Lee, who plans to tackle this by banking on his MIC comrades to help introduce him in an intensive house-to-house campaign.
Lee also brushed off suggestions that a recent confrontation between disgruntled Indians here and Menteri Besar Tajol Rosli was reflective of the entire Indian community in Buntong.
During the Feb 19 incident, a group of Indians jeered Tajol during a meet-the-people session. Other victims of public dissatisfaction included Perak MIC chief G Rajoo and Yik. An egg was also thrown on stage but missed all three VIPs.
"There are only a small group of people who are causing trouble," said Lee.

DAP seems to knew about the Indians displeasure for the current BN leadership and they are aware that this is their finest moment to capture back the Buntong state seat from BN. Of lately, there has been some fiery 'ceramahs' and hard campaigning going on the Buntong marketplace and Chin Woo Hall by the DAP leadership. Maybe just 50% of Indians vote will secure the Buntong seat for them in the coming G.E.

Now, can the BN and MIC leadership came up with a bright idea of appeasing the Indians anger in Buntong? Will Samy Velu came down and cool off the Buntong Indians or will he be busy to safeguard his own 'burning' Sungei Siput seat? Anyway Samy is more lucky than Yik and Lee since he's not going to deal with of lots of Indians votes in Malay majority Sungai Siput.

If Samy were so 'angkuh' and says that he will left the office when the Indians dont's like him, then I humbly request to Samy, why not come and contest in Ipoh Barat? A place with more Indians! Why contest in Sungai Siput (Malay majority) area? Then, Samy will know really how the Indians love him so much!

The Youth and Sports Minister Azalina Othman Said had just won her Pengerang parliament seat unopposed for the second consecutive time in yesterdays nominations day for the coming polls! In fact, BN has already won 7 parliament seats and 2 state seats unopposed and PAS secured their Kijang state seat in Kelantan.

Unopposed: BN wins 9 seats, PAS 1

Barisan Nasional (BN) won seven of the 222 parliamentary and two of the 505 state seats unopposed when nominations closed today.

Meanwhile, the opposition won one through PAS' woman candidate Wan Ubaidah Omar who secured the Kijang state seat in Kelantan when the BN candidate Mustopha Ahmed was disqualified for having been declared a bankrupt.

This is a crucial bonus for PAS as it controlled 23 seats to BN's 22 in Kelantan before the dissolution of the state assembly, thus making every contest counts in the battle for the state.
In the 2004 general election, BN won 17 parliamentary and 11 state seats unopposed while PAS had took the Senggarang state constituency in Johor.
With this development, there are now 215 parliamentary and 502 state seats up for grabs on polling day on March 8.
The parliamentary seats won by BN are Sarawak’s Selangau, Kapit, Kanowit and Tanjung Manis, Sabah's Kalabakan and Pensiangan and Pengerang in Johor.
The victorious candidates are Joseph Entulu Belaun (Selangau), Alexander Nanta Linggi (Kapit), Aaron Ago Dagang (Kanowit), Norah Tun Rahman (Tanjung Manis), Abdul Ghafur Salleh (Kalabakan), Joseph Kurup (Pensiangan) and Youth and Sports Minister Azalina Othman Said (Pengerang).
This is second time lucky for Azalina and Abdul Ghafur, who both won their respective seats unopposed in 2004.

Youth and Sports Minister Azalina Othman has accused bloggers, who have been writing avidly on upcoming elections, of being cowards and warned they are being monitored.
Azalina said opposition parties were using blogs to get their message out because they believed the Home Affairs Ministry was busy monitoring reports in the mainstream media, the Star daily said.
"They think they can get away with it but it is not the case as they too are being monitored," she reportedly said, adding that bloggers were cowards and a nuisance to the ruling party.
Opposition parties have resorted to blogs, SMS messaging and YouTube in their campaign for the March 8 polls, to dodge a virtual blackout on mainstream media.

Meanwhile, tiga penjuru battle seems to be unavoidable in some of the areas especially in Sungai Siput between MIC president S Samy Vellu, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidate Dr D Jeyakumar and independent candidate Nor Rizan Oon.

Islam under attack ...?

Is Islam in Malaysia is under threat and attack right now? Well, it looks like and sounds like that in Malaysiakini report, when this bunch of people who called themselves as the PEMBELA or whatever they are came forward with this list of demands to political parties contesting in the upcoming general election.

Among the salient points in the list include:
Defending the position of Islam as the religion of the Federation under Article 3 of the Federal Constitution.

Asserting the role of Islam in the state and reject the notion that Malaysia is a secular state. This includes the setting-up of a Inter-Faith Commission or a Non-Muslim Affairs Department.

Enact laws controlling the propagation of non-Muslim religions among the Muslims in Sabah, Sarawak, Perlis, Penang and Federal Territories as provided by Article 11(4) of the Federal Constitution.

Defend and assert the position of the syariah courts as provided for under Article 121(1A) and Ninth Schedule of the Federal Constitution.

Widen the scope of the criminal and civil jurisdiction of the syariah courts.

Making it an offence (withdrawing the business licence) for companies which prohibit Muslims from practising their faith at the workplace.

Reject the notion of Malaysia is a secular state! Give me a break lah. I've been in Malaysia for thirty something years and witnessing the so called branding of Malaysians by their races being Malays, Indians, Chinese and etc. Now, these PEMBELA came up with an ingenious ways to brand the Malaysians being Muslims and Non-Muslims pulak!

Hey PEMBELA, let me tell ya something, it's us the non-Muslim in Malaysia should be more worried for the reason of our bibles being confiscated at the airports, dead bodies being snatched away from the family, temples being demolished and Buddhist statue's being haram and so on!

The reason why I feel so irritated about these morons is that, I still got lots of non-Muslims friends like me living in scare of what will happen to us if Malaysia is bound to become an Islamic state like what thesePEMBELA claims of? They even fear to vote for PAS for the reason of, if secular party like BN being so fanatic about ' mengislamkan' Malaysia then PAS would be a worst nightmare!

But all is not bad, especially for those non-Muslims who fears to cast their vote for PAS. Raja Petra in his Resurrecting the dead rationalising the issue of PAS letting go the Islamic State Document (ISD) . The past is already past. Barang lepas jangan dikenal la according to RPK.

Let me put it to you again in plain and simple English. PAS is contesting only 60 Parliament seats. They need 150 seats to control two-thirds of Parliament. PAS cannot implement Islamic laws even if they control two-thirds of the seats in the State Assembly without controlling two-thirds of Parliament. PAS is not pursuing theISD any longer. Malaysia will remain a Secular State unless two-thirds of Malaysians demand this country be changed into an Islamic State through a referendum -- but then the referendum can only be called byBarisan Nasional and never by PAS because only Barisan Naisonal controls two-thirds of Parliament.
Now, are we still worried about Malaysia being turned into an Islamic State? If we are then we had better watch Barisan Nasional closely because only Barisan Nasional can do that. Look at this news item again (Pro-government Islamic groups demanding stronger role for Islam ahead of polls in Malaysia) and here (PEMBELA declaration & press statement ). See who is crying out for more Islamisation? Is it PAS? Or is it the Umno-led organisations?

The logic by RPK in the article seems to fit nicely, isn't it? So why worry vote to PAS? Vote for any opposition will do even PAS! Make a difference and you know how to do it comes March 8 2008, don't you?

Selayang people, Say Goodbye to Chan!

MCA Deputy president Chan Kong Choy will not retain his Selayang seat in the General election. The news is still hot in Malaysiakini.

No! Not because of that Port Klang Free Zone scandal issue. His poor health condition is the main culprit behind the decision of not retaining the Selayang seat according to Chan. It's not because that he's being under pressure by Ong to step down as how I had been thinking all this while. I'm wrong again!

It is also learnt that Chan had expressed his intention to step down to the party leaders eight months ago. That means way before June 2007 lah! What a pity for people of Selayang in having a 'sick' M.P to represent them all this while.

Chan confirms he's not contesting

MCA deputy president Chan Kong Choy, citing his poor health condition, today announced that he was not contesting in the 12th general election.

He told a press conference held at the MCA headquarters this evening that he would not be contesting to retain his Selayang parliamentary seat in Selangor.
The seat is now widely expected to be contested by his political secretary, Yoo Wei How, who is the party's Youth organising secretary.

“This is due to purely health reason,” said Chan, who is also the transport minister. He denied that he was forced to step down due to the Port Klang Free Zone scandal.

The ruling BN coalition has yesterday finalised its list of candidates and it was learnt that Chan's name is not on it.

It is also learnt that Chan had met BN chairperson and Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at Putrajaya this morning.

That's good news! Why did Selayang people need to settle with an M.P who's health is in poor condition. Find a healthy one lor! How about good looks too. It will be an added advantage according to Selangor M.B Khir Toyo.

A new rose among the thorns this time around is S Thangasvari who will be contesting in the Hutan Melintang state seat.
MIC would be fielding only fresh faces in four states - Kedah, Malacca, Perak and Johor - while dropping notable figures such as Perak MIC chief G Rajoo and Johor MIC chief KS Balakrishnan.

News flash in Malaysiakini

Samy Velu announce that 13 new faces for the 19 state seats the party controls while changes have been made to two of the nine parliamentary seats. The not so shocking changes are KS Nijhar has been dropped from the line-up and will be replaced by S Murugesan for the Subang parliament seat.

Meanwhile, vice-president S Veerasingam of Tapah will give way to MIC information chief M Saravanan to contest in Tapah. Veera will be going for the Sungkai state seat this time around instead.

But what makes me feel so pissed off is this....

"We are anticipating a 100 percent victory, although we know this is not going to be easy," said Samy Vellu.
The MIC president said the party has identified three problematic state seats which are Lunas in Kedah, Prai and Bagan Dalam in Penang.
As for the parliamentary seats, Samy Vellu is confident that the party will retain all of them.

That arrogance! Pissed me off! I really love to see this guy go all the way to Sungai Siput to defend his seat and lost that seat for good. I wish P.Patoo is still around to contest him there as it was in the 1974 when Samy wins by 600 more votes if my memory serves me right!. That will fit the famous saying 'revenge is a dish best served cold'!

Anyway the good news is that, former deputy president S Subramaniam, who is widely considered Samy's key rival, is not on the party's candidates list. Can't imagine to witness another making of 'rotting fishes' in M.I.C!

‘And I can tell you, Dato Seri Samy Vellu is the only Indian representative in the cabinet. But he is equivalent to several ministers. I cannot divulge the proceedings of our cabinet but I tell you in terms of the time he takes in cabinet is disproportionately more compared to others. He is one minister who speaks. Probably he consumes more time than several ministers put together.
‘So, if people accuse Dato Seri Samy Vellu of not fighting for the Indian community, I will be among the first to deny because he has fought for Indians. He has fought hard for the Indian community. He has spoken with full of passion for the Indian community. He is very colourful in his presentation. And he does that because he is the leader of MIC and of the Indian community.’

Guess who says that? Oh! come on... I assume that most of you guys who went to that recently held MIC Special Convention on February the 3rd knows better than me. It was none other than Deputy Prime Minister, Najib Tun Razak in a very 'friendly' way trying (very desperately) to credit and further polish Samy's performance of being hard-working and vocal for the community especially in the cabinet on all the critical matters pertaining to the social economic and cultural rights and provisions for Indian Malaysians.

Maybe yes, since both of them had been there for a long time working closely (or screwing if you may like it!) contributing to community and nation. But then, suddenly I remember this!

Battle cry to Heal Kelantan

BACHOK: Barisan Nasional has launched a new battle cry in its bid to capture the state from PAS.
Parodying the state government's Tahun Melawat Kelantan 2008 (Visit Kelantan Year 2008) slogan, Barisan deputy chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak declared that this year was the year to Merawat Kelantan (Heal Kelantan) instead.
Najib said Kelantan had many “ailments” and now was the time for every voter to rehabilitate the state.
Voters here must take a quantum leap to spark off the changes needed for treating the “illnesses” which hindered development.

Ah! Now I seem to get the point. Maybe it was just a 'medicine' given by Najib trying to heal the M.I.C and Samy after those not so pleasing (Hindraf) viral attacks on MIC and Samy since November 25th 2007.

BTW, in an related development the so called 'fiercest' cabinet minister says he's willing to go now if that's what the Indian community wanted not the outsiders. Well ask Samy himself, if you wanna know how to differentiate community and outsiders. I have no clues who is the community and who's the outsiders!

Samy first contested the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat in the country’s fourth general election in 1974 and has held the seat since then.

The party, which has yet to be registered, has adopted the slogan of ‘Graduates with the people’ and said it aims to ensure that the voice of the nation’s graduates is heard in Parliament.
"We want to make sure that our voice is heard in the parliament. This is to protect the rights of the people and to convey the ambitions of local graduates directly to the leaders in the parliament," said party president Azlan Zainal (pix) in a statement today.
He said the party also championed a requirement that ministers holding education portfolios have the necessary qualifications.
"The higher education minister and education minister should at least be of professor or associate professor status or hold a doctoral degree."
The party’s intention to contest the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat, which has been the premier’s stronghold since 1978, has caused a stir in the local political scene.

"We are still very firm on our stance to challenge Pak Lah one-to-one as well as Hishammuddin and Mustapha," said Azlan.

Go! Go! Students... It's seems that Azlan is damn serious in giving some political discourses to Education Minister Hishammuddin Hussein Onn and Higher Education Minister Mustapha Mohd all the way in the coming General Elections.

In response to the challenge, Higher Education Minister Mustapha Mohamed said BN was not afraid of a ‘mosquito party’ like PMN and stressed that political parties should register before contesting a election when he was launching constructions work of Kok Lanas Community College yesterday .

To this, Azlan said PMN saw the minister’s statement as a ‘good sign’ adding that the Universities and University Colleges Act (Uuca) should not be used to prevent graduate students from contesting the polls.

“My decision is final,” said Fong at a press conference held at the DAP Batu Gajah service center this morning.

“I am calling this press conference today to announce my decision that I am not offering myself as a candidate for any seat in this 12th general election,” she said as her shocked aides, supporters and reporters looked on.

She did not give any reasons for her decision at the press conference. However there are wide speculations that internal party turmoil was the reason behind her decision. And she alluded as much in her letter to the party to inform her decision.

When I read the news in Malaysiakini this evening, I thought it was just a personal decision of her. She was just married and may be she needs to settle off her life with her husband. But.. when I saw her in the Buletin Utama News just now, I think all of us can sense that it's not really personal. She seems to be hiding something!

Copies of her email to Guan Eng were also distributed at the press conference.

It in she wrote: “It is a tough decision for me as DAP has become my second family and the people of Batu Gajah parliamentary constituency have been so special to me over the last eight years.”

She told Guan Eng that “development of internal party events in the DAP Perak over the last few years as well as currently” made it “impossible for me to continue serving effectively, efficiently and wholeheartedly”.

“Under such circumstances and in the best interest of all concerned, I have arrived at this unavoidable and difficult decision,” she said.

At the press conference, Fong also took the opportunity to thank the people of Batu Gajah for their support and confidence in her.

“I feel honoured and proud that I have been able to be their elected representative for the last eight years,” she added.

All of us knew that, earlier there is a rumours saying that the Perak DAP pressured Fong to relinquish her Batu Gajah seat and contest elsewhere because the Pantai Remis state representative Nga Kor Ming eyeing for the Batu Gajah seat as well.

That's disturbing! If that Pantai Remis guy wants to contest a federal seat than why it must be in the expense of Fong Po Kuan? DAP, please buck up! You just lost on of the best female Member of Parliament in Malaysia.

I humbly request DAP to persuade back Fong to come back again to Batu Gajah, Perak. Please..

Universiti Malaya's image tarnished?

Dzulkhairi Mohd Nor, Sheikh Omar Ali, Mohd Azlan Zainal and Ahmad Shahir Bin Mohd Shah the four students had been warned by university authorities not to participate in future political gatherings, failing which they would have to face sterner action. The full story at Malaysiakini.

Three of them were found guilty by a university tribunal this week for attending a gathering of Parti Mahasiswa Negara (PMN) in front of the Election Commission office in Putrajaya on Jan 7 this year to apply for legal recognition. The last one was found guilty of punching a boy and a girl during the campus election in September last year.

Image tarnished
University authorities claimed that the action of the four students have tarnished the university’s image. No stern penalties were imposed on them however due to the absence of concrete evidence.
Malaysian students are barred from participating in political activities under the University and Universities Colleges Act (UUCA). Many students however felt that the law violates their rights of participation..
One of the students, Azlan said it was unfair for him to receive the warning as the gathering was not a demonstration but simply to register the PMN.
"I told the panel that the gathering was not illegal. It went on for nearly an hour and wasn't dispersed by the police. Was that illegal?" said Azlan after the proceeding.
The panel however disagreed and showed him a picture of his attendance at the gathering. Azlan acknowledged it was him.

"I was just there to read a declaration of PMN, the content only stressed that university students should be independent, not favouring any political party and should become the check-and-balance between the government and opposition."

"I didn't even mention the name of UM, was there any disrepute?" he argued, reiterating that his action did not tarnish the university’s name.

You see Azlan, you had done nothing wrong! The gathering is not illegal and of course your action did not tarnish the image of the university. The thing is that you're not supposed to involve actively in those kind of politic against the ruling coalition. That's what they mean if you read between the lines, Azlan.

No! no! It's wrong for students to contest in the polls against Pak Lah in Kepala Batas. It is like a sin! What you guys should do is just help put up all those banners showing sign of support to BN and singing the Dulu, Kini and Selamanya... in the same tune like them! That would be helpful to polish back the tarnished image of U.M.

It is reported that the cops had arrested those gathering in batches for the purpose of questioning. According to witness there is a also a woman and a child too had been detained this morning.

Witnesses also claimed that police had aggressively manhandled a women with her child when they wanted to arrest her.
"The woman was crying aloud because the police forced her to leave her child when she was arrested," said Mahendran who later informed Malaysiakini of the woman’s condition through his mobile phone.

Detained at roaddblocks
Thanenthiran added that almost two thirds of them were detained prior to the gathering at roadblocks set up along the routes leading to the city. They are being held at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur.
There were heavy police and riot squads presence in Jalan Raja Laut. Four water cannon trucks were stationed along the route leading to Parliament.
It is learnt that the police have been stationed at key areas pertaining to the gathering since last night. Roadblocks were also set up at various key routes leading into the city.
"The police outnumbered the crowd in three folds. I saw several of them firing teargas canisters to the peaceful crowd. Why is there a need to fire that many teargas canisters when one is strong enough (to disperse the crowd)," said a tourist who happened to be in the area.

According to Hindraf coordinator S Thanenthiran, about 200 people have been arrested. Also nabbed was Hindraf’s rose campaign organiser S Manickavasagam.
There were heavy police presence in Jalan Raja Laut. Four water cannon trucks were stationed along the route leading to Parliament.
The Hindraf event was initially planned to be held at the Parliament gates where 200 children were tol gather to hand over roses as a peaceful gesture requesting that Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi heed the group’s 18-point demands.
News that roads leading to Parliament were closed to prevent them from going to Parliament then led them to change the gathering venue to Jalan Raja Laut.

So now we know lah... What it means when Pak Lah says I'm listening lah... Please correct my mistakes lah!

PAS member, Jalaluddin Abdul Manap and PKR’s Information Chief Tian Chua arrested today by the cops! Police today stopped polls reform group Bersih from holding a press conference in front of Istana Negara and in the process arrested both of them.

Earlier, a delegation of Bersih leaders had submitted a protest note - addressed to the King - with regards to the fairness of the upcoming elections slated for March 8. Bersih - represented by Dzulkifli and Syed Azman - and PAS - represented by Mat Sabu and Hatta Ramli - managed to hand over their memorandum to an Istana Negara ‘customer service officer’, Mohd Hasmuni Abd Shukor

The police had maintained a close watch on the group and moved in as soon as Bersih called for a press conference after submitting their memorandum at about 3pm.
Tian Chua was arrested when he tried to prevent the police from confiscating a Bersih banner.while Jalaluddin was arrested after he ignored a police warning to stop distributing leaflets calling the EC chairperson ‘a liar’.
PAS Research Centre director Dr Dzulkifli Ahamd was heard pleading to the police officers to release Jalaluddin.
‘This is so cruel. Please release the old man. He’s old and has a heart condition . I’m willing to trade myself with him as long as you release him," he said.

I applauded Dr Dzulkifli's gesture of kindness and compassion. It was very touching. Judging by what happens, I really doubt that coming General elections would be safe and peaceful, let alone free and fair.

Please release both of them immediately without any conditions. After all, what they did was just a basic fundamental rights by any citizens in a democratic country like Malaysia. Is Malaysia undemocratic and barbaric?

In their memorandum, Bersih and PAS called for a royal commission on electoral reform to be set up after the general election. Bersih is also initiating a nationwide signature campaign to back their memorandum.
Bersih is also demanding for:
the cleaning up of ‘phantom voters’ from the electoral roll.

for EC to make the use of indelible ink compulsory for all voters as at the moment, a voter can refuse to be marked by the ink.

the abolishment of postal voting for the armed forces and police personnel.

free and fair media access for all parties and candidates.

a 21-day campaign period.

Leadership crisis in Hindraf is the header in Malaysiakini today!

In a two-page statement, P Uthayakumar, M Manoharan, V Ganabatirau, R Kenghadharan and T Vasantha Kumar said that they did not place TS Thanendran in charge of Hindraf in the absence of them.

Thanendran should not assume the "self-proclaimed acting leadership of Hindraf" and that the statements he has made to the media do not represent the movement. But Hindraf Chairperson Waythamoorthy was surprised to learn of this latest development.

Did Uthaya really sign those papers was his immediate reaction? Waytha also claims that 10-member interim committee to run the day- to-day affairs of Hindraf and Thanendran is the movement’s national coordinator. It was just a ploy according to tarnish the image of TS Thanendran said Waytha.

"I believe this is a ploy by irresponsible individuals to tarnish the image of Thanendran," he added.
‘Bought over by BN’
Meanwhile, Thanendran alleged that four of the five Hindraf leaders under detention have been ‘bought over’ by Barisan Nasional.
"Waythamoorthy is the Hindraf chairperson, who is still alive. He is the right person to speak and they (the Hindraf 5) have no right to speak. They are supporters just like me," he told Malaysiakini.
He also claimed that Uthayakumar’s signature on the statement was forged.
"There is a split in Hindraf because the four have been bought over by BN to attack Hindraf during the general election to win back Indian votes.
"We have heard rumours that they will be released early," he said, adding that he has not collected funds on behalf of Hindraf.
This is not the first time that there has been speculations of a split within Hindraf.

So who is speaking the truth now? You readers make your own judgement. Remember this is election time. So all those 'drama' and 'sandiwara' are not extra ordinary in Malaysia Boleh!

Kayveas however was unhappy with the way his party was treated by the other coalition members, especially Gerakan, MCA and MIC, in seat negotiations.

“You never include us in any negotiations about seat allocations. So we sincerely request that all seats that have been given out to these three parties be returned,” he said at the press conference held at the Putra World Trade Centre.

According to him, four Parliament seats and 14 state seats belonging to the party have been slowly taken away from it and given to other parties in BN.

Members are disappointed

The Parliament seats which Kayveas wants back are Beruas (now held by Gerakan), Ipoh Barat (to be contested by MCA), Mengelembu (held by MCA) and Ulu Kinta (held by Umno).

Lol! Just wish to remind him of what Umno vice-president Mohd Ali Rustam who once openly told that PPP and Kayveas is always free to leave the B.N coalition if it felt was being unfairly treated. Can't get the message yet, Kayveas?

Students ready for Kepala Batas, Are we?

Give way to us! Parti Mahasiswa Negara (PMN) pro-tem president Azlan Zainal said they are ready and have sufficient funds to challenge the BN in the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat.

In a statement, the newly formed party’s pro-tem president Azlan Zainal said they are ready and have sufficient funds to challenge the BN in the constituency.
"We are ready to fight. (Kepala Batas) is our choice to give back to the community and our chosen battleground to air our views.
"We hope that we can challenge them in a straight fight. From all our work, programs and preparations we are ready to deliver our promises.
"We are optimistic with our agenda for change in the name of upholding the truth. We are fighting for justice," the statement read.
On these grounds, the party, made up of students and graduates, urged other parties to permit PMN to contest.
"Allow us to prove what young graduates can do in the country. We are the future," it stated.
An application to register the party was sent to the Federal Territory branch of the Registrar of Societies on Jan 18 this year.

They are ready and even have sufficient funds to contest against the P.M himself! Are the Malaysian voters ready for the students to usher into Politics?

How about the oppositions especially PAS? The latest news been told that it's President Abdul Hadi Awang said he was prepared to face Abdullah if that was what the party wanted.

"If the party asks me to contest (in Kepala Batas), I'm prepared (to do so). I abide by the party's decision.
"(But) whether I contest or otherwise is not important. What is important is that we work to bring about changes," he was quoted as saying.
Abdul Hadi - who is the Rhu Rendang state assemblyperson - added that the final decision on the matter rests with the Penang PAS Liaison Committee.
"What is certain is that PAS will contest in a straight fight (against the Barisan Nasional candidate) in Kepala Batas," he said.

It seems that PAS will works to bring about changes. Will PAS bring about this small change to let those students to contest in Kepala Batas? I really love to see it too. I thought it is healthy for students to involve themselves actively in politics too!

Asked to confirm on the use of indelible ink in the coming election, the EC chief replied: “I will talk about that later. The procedures-procedures are not (main topic) in this session, we are more interested in the (election) dates.”

Pressed again, he retorted: “Did I say cancel? I will call you if there is any change.”

There have been concerns over the introduction of these new measures, since the election laws have not been amended to make them legally binding.

Sufficient campaigning period

The EC chief also vehemently denied persisting claims of electoral irregularities by the oppositions and electoral reform bodies like Bersih.

“There are a lot of lies happening,” said Abdul Rashid, who will be conducting the general election for the sixth time, his last before retirement later this year.

On demands from the pressure groups for a campaigning period not less than 21 days, he replied: “It has been more than sufficient... I have been very fair, don’t ask for more.”

He also said that the 13-day campaign period was adequate for all the political parties contesting in the polls.

He added that the commission took into account internal security and public order when deciding on the campaign period.

He called on the voters to exercise their civic rights to vote on the polling day and expected the voters’ turnout to remain between 74-75 percent, the average of previous turnout.

The EC will be assisted by a strength of 149,000 trained workers and some 50,000 helpers in this election. An allocation of RM200 million has been provided for it to run the election.

LOL! So for now, just wait for him to call and tell you if it is canceled!

But the most shocking news today is when Pak Lah was bombarded with questions pertaining to Samy Vellu after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

The police have denied a permit for the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) to hold a gathering outside the Parliament building this Saturday, paving the way for a possible standoff should the movement decide to press on.

Hindraf supporters planned to gather 200 children and their parents to carry roses meant for Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in a symbolic Valentine’s Day gesture to call for the release of five Hindraf leaders held under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
"My advice to those invited to attend, is to stay away from the gathering," warned Ahmad Sofian who stressed that the planned gathering was illegal since no police permit was granted.

"I had an audience with the King this morning and he assented to dissolution of Parliament effective today, to pave the way for the 12th general election as provided under Article 55 of the Federal Constitution," he said.
"With this, state legislative assemblies (except Sarawak) are also advised to dissolve."
He also said the EC would fix the nomination and polling date. Under election law, the polls must be held within 60 days of dissolution of Parliament.
The EC has confirmed to journalists that it will meet tomorrow and will announce details at a press conference, to be held at its headquarters at 11am.
EC head Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman, asked to verify speculation that nomination day would be Feb 21 and polls held on March 2, replied: "You can speculate anything you want, the official announcement is tomorrow, you wait for the official announcment."

Anyway, the election date is still undecided as it needs to be consented by the Yang Dipertuan Agong. The current electoral roll, gazetted earlier this month, lists 10,922,139 voters. Of this, 148,969 are new voters, while 51,424 have changed polling centres in keeping with updated personal particulars.

Jayanthi said she ‘vividly remembers’ how Lingam dictated a draft judgment from some handwritten notes while another staff J Sumanti typed it out.
"Lingam then corrected the pages with red ink. Sumanti then did the corrections and made a copy of the said judgment in a floppy disk that was to be given to Mokhtar Sidin.
"I later discovered the judgment written by Lingam was fully incorporated as the official judgment by the said judge," she said.
She stressed that Lingam was assisted by his brother V Sivaparanjothi, lawyer Adam Bachek and former Industrial Court chairperson W Satchithanandan that night.

In 1998 Anti-Corruption Agency informed Jayathi that corruption investigation concerning Lingam was closed because ‘too many high profile officials were involved’. It is also told that she was given RM3000.00 by the ACA which she had accepted but could not tell the court why the money was given to her.

Malaysiakini today reports that GN Jayathi, 45, the former secretary of V.K Lingam made some explosive revelations against her ex-boss at the RCI.

Between November and December 1994, Jayathi revealed that she had stayed until 3am in Lingam's office to draft a judgement dictated by Lingam.

The said judgement was read in a High Court defamation suit against a famous journalist.

The judgment eventually became the landmark decision read by High Court judge Mokhtar Sidin in the Vincent Tan’s defamaion suit against veteran journalist MGG Pillai.

She also revealed that:

The Anti-Corruption Agency had informed her in 1998 that the corruption case against Lingam was closed because ‘too many high profile officials are involved’. She was also given RM3000 by ACA which she accepted.

She met former Industrial Court chairperson W Satchithanandan in Penang and he asked why Lingam recommended former High Court judge KL Rekhraj as a judicial commissioner and not him (Satchithanandan).

She singlehandedly handled the entire itinerary of the New Zealand trip for Lingam and former Chief Justice Eusoff Chin in Dec 1994.

Wonder if this will be another 'bullshit' and bragging according to V.K Lingam? Let's wait and see!

Can the 'young bloods' in MIC deliver the Indians?

This header 'Drop MIC veterans, Samy Vellu urged' in Malaysiakini today caught my attention. There are few veteran members of M.I.C are willing to pave ways for the more young leaders to take over in the coming General elections.

Negeri Sembilan MIC deputy chairperson Dr L Krishnan, who contested in 1995 and in 2004 has opted out of defending the Jeram Padang state seat. Similarly, Johor MIC chief KS Balakrishnan has indicated his willingness to step aside if party president S Samy Vellu wishes him to do so. Balakrishnan served as Pasir Gudang state assemblyperson for four terms from 1986 and won the Permas state seat in the 2004 general election.

A young leader from Selangor, who is counting on being named a candidate, said he hopes more veterans will voluntarily give up their seats at federal and state levels. There are several veteran M.I.C leaders already in the list of ‘retirees’!

It is time for them to give way to young candidates," he said.
If the young guns had their way, the list of ‘retirees’ would include:
KS Nijhar (MP for Subang Jaya)
S Veerasingam (MIC vice-president and Tapah MP)
Dr S Subramaniam (party secretary-general and Segamat MP)
V Saravanan (Kedah chief and Bukit Selambau state representative)
G Rajoo (Perak chief and Hutan Melintang state representative)
R Raghavan (Malacca chief and Asahan state representative)
K Rajapathy (Perai state assembly person)
PK Subbaiyah (Bagan Dalam state representative, in Penang)
V Jagarasah (two-term Batu Caves assemblyperson)
Another young MIC leader, who is also keen to contest the elections, pointed out that there several others who are well past the age of retirement.
"They have had their chance to do their duty to the community and now they should leave, especially when sentiments on the ground are against them at the moment," he said.

Strangely none of the aspiring young leaders said anything about dropping Samy Vellu himself as a candidate. He has helmed the party since 1979 and has been a cabinet minister for 29 years. Is he 'another' young leader also in the M.I.C?

But here is the funniest one, in order to give ‘More dynamic image’ Samy Vellu is looking at introducing young faces to update the party’s image.

"He also feels that young leaders will be able to engage the community and get things done for them," said a source.

So Samy knows that his M.I.C is a total failure and Indians had lost their hope on the M.I.C. He also indirectly admits that he had done nothing for the Indians and now he's being a 'Mr. Nice Guy' to Indians by telling them that the young ones can deliver the 'candys'!. But... Samy, why after 29 years only you admit this?

All this while, Samy has denied the Indians problem! Is Samy really telling the damn 'truth' to the Indians the reason behind his and M.I.C failure? Or does he pretends that the Indians in Malaysia is still ' 6 year old elementary' school kids?

'Cukupla'... Kami bukan budak-budak lagi!

Nithiyaavaani: After the success of the demo by Hindraf, more parties are giving more attention to the Indian issue in Malaysia including BN's component parties. Even the MIC leaders themselves. Should Samy Vellu resign?
Will the problems of the Indians be resolved? If Samy resigns won’t he be replaced by another pro-BN leader? BN is corrupted and the people have no hope with them. So its time to change the government in this election. Let the people talk - not the leaders.
Venugopal: There have been a lot of rumours that former MIC deputy president S Subramaniam is returning to politics and is soon to take the helm of MIC. The MIC does not need failed leaders like Subramaniam who warmed the deputy president's seat and enjoyed perks at the expense of the members.
Let us look budding leaders in and outside the party or top civil servants who can usher the community towards 2020 progressively. If Subra comes as a proxy for Umno, then things are not going to be better.

Why Abdullah Loves Number 13?

Well... No! Actually the P.M doesn't love the number 13, He prefers the number 8 but since everybody has taken it so he got to settle with the Number 13.

Asked whether No. 13 was his favourite number, the Prime Minister said: "Yes, I like that number because nobody wants it because of superstitution. Usually, people rush to get No. 8.
"Since nobody wants No. 13, I take it...I want to take No. 8, everybody has taken it. So I take No. 13," he said.

Neither denying nor confirming No. 13 with the dissolution of Parliament, Abdullah said: "Up to you...if you want to link No. 13, you can link."

The above Bernama news also reports that Barisan Nasional (BN) elected representatives' service record to the people since the last general election will be the basis for selection of candidates.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he had received their performance report cards and would study them before deciding on the candidates to be fielded in the upcoming 12th general election.

So people, don't believe all those rumours about certain people have been going around claiming that they were the Prime Minister's "adopted son" and had the powers to determine candidates' line-up. All that are craps according to the P.M and he doesn't have any 'anak angkat'!

I Don't Have Any Adopted Child, Says Abdullah
BUTTERWORTH, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- "I don't have any "anak angkat" (adopted child) and I've never asked anyone to do anything about election candidates," Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Sunday.
Asked on reports about certain people claiming that they have been made "anak angkat" by the prime minister and have been given the "blessing" to pick potential candidates for the upcoming general election, Abdullah said candidly, "Who's my anak angkat?"
