When I first got hired to edit Mollygood, I told my father, an attorney, to look at the site. Sitting across from me at his office desk, he called up the page, which in those days had a big picture of Molly Goodson's face at the top, and clicked around, HMMMMMM-ing and HUH-ing. After a minute or two, he turned to me, lit a Dunhill and said plainly, "I don't get it." At the time, I can't say I disagreed with his assessment. I only knew I didn't ever want to be an attorney, so I blogged.

20 months later, here we are, at the end of Mollygood. Yes, dear readers: fin.

Talking the economy is unnecessary, as the act of shuttering this site (as well as Stereohyped) speaks to that subject more than enough, so I'll just say thanks. Thanks for coming around and commenting and discussing and laughing with us. Clearly we never got rich off Mollygood, nor did we get as famous as the people we often covered. But we did what we did without drawing cum on women's faces or calling people fat, and that's something of which I'm tremendously proud.

Ultimately, perhaps our omission of easy jokes and crassness was to our detriment, leaving us in our current predicament. But, and I think this is a lesson many people are being forced to learn these days, oftentimes, lots of money and things aren't worth the price you'll eventually have to pay for them. I'll not try and pretend that this was anything more than a celebrity blog, but I honestly believe it was a celebrity blog very different from most of the others. That all of you were cognizant of that and appreciated it was motivating each and every day.

I'm going to be continuing on here at Jossip Initiatives, which is now Jossip and Queerty, as the new managing editor. Whitney, as you already know, will be somewhere else, being kind, generous and talented. And probably discussing cats.

Hell of a world, this one. We reserve our bailouts for old rich people who slap each other on the wrists with one hand and stuff their pockets with severance pay with the other, while a generation of young creatives is being systematically destroyed, with little options left but to go be attorneys. I wish it were so different.

Be excellent to each other.

I'm just going to be completely, totally honest here. I've started typing and then deleted everything and started over again, trying to figure out exactly what to say and how to say it. So here it is: This will be my final post on Mollygood, which is shutting down today.

Before I say anything else, I want to express just how much you have all meant to me during my almost year-long stay at the site. There would be no Mollygood if it weren't for each and every one of you and the intelligent, hilarious and enlightening conversations we had together day in and day out. Both the Hags and the silent readers alike made waking up each morning and reporting on Britney Spears' mental breakdown or Paris Hilton's lack of undergarments a genuine treat, and nothing I can say would ever express how much you all have meant to the site.

The economy sucks right now — blame George Bush, blame Xenu, blame Tom Cruise — and that is the reason things have played out this way. If it makes any difference, I am just as shocked and heartbroken as the rest of you. For what it's worth, covering the lives of celebrities will continue over at Jossip in some capacity.

Thanks for everything — the encouraging e-mails, the critical comments, but mostly for the laughs. I can't tell you how many times my roommate thought I was going crazy as I cracked up laughing in my room with no one around but my cat and the computer. I feel like I've grown to know many of you over the months, and it saddens me that this community has come to the end of the road.

Oooh, drama on the Gossip Girl Facebook page! Well, not exactly, but some bloggers over at Blackbook were able to sleuth out the aliases of some of our favorite (read: not favorite) actors on the CW teen drama, and read the private goings-on of Ed Westwick, Jessica Karen Szhor (Vanessa) and Chase "Caprin Crunch" Crawford.

So what did these wall musings say, exactly? Were the trio as eloquent (well, Chuck Bass is eloquent, Chase is eye-candy, and Vanessa is just superfluous) as they are on the show?

Justice came a little late for OJ Simpson today when a judge sentenced him to 15 years in prison for armed robbery, conspiracy to kidnap and assault with a deadly weapon.

A "choked up" Simpson delivered one final defense before his sentencing:

I'm sorry. I'm sorry for all of it. I didn't mean to hurt anybody and I didn't mean to steal from anybody.

Really, OJ? Really? You didn't mean to steal from anybody? Sure you didn't. And that gun you brought along to the scene of the crime was definitely not an indicator that you meant to hurt anybody, right? Great logic there.

Enjoy prison, where you should have been all along.
