A cliche is an expression or thought made from an original thought, either cultural or stereotype. A phrase that has become overly familiar. Momma said, life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you are going to get.

As I was growing up I probably heard a million Cliche's from my Mom and Dad, but the one that stood out the most is "A hard head will make a soft behind" which refers to a person who does not listen and insist on making their own mistakes instead of taking sound advice from a experienced person who been there, done that.

Cliche Galore

When I look back on the things my mom talked about, it seemed like in every sentence a cliche was sure to follow. Here is a conversation we had!
Son remember we have yard work today! Aww do I have too? What's the problem my moms says? Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed? I didn't reply, she says the cat got your tongue? Listen everybody is in the same boat, life is not all fun and games. It's a crying shame, in this day and age that you kids are this lazy. You need to take a step back and appreciate what you have. It's always the same old song and dance. Then I said I'm tired

and moms said yep, been there and heard that before too. What you need to do is put your best foot forward and stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about. I'm sick and tired of you complaining, Life's a battle, you win some you lose some, so if you go to sleep at night you wouldn't be sleepy. Remember the early bird get's the worm. As a matter of fact you can kill two birds with one stone, when you water the grass you can wash the car. So I said what about my dumb brother, why can't he do it? Moms said if you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all. So you get out in that yard and have a whale of a good time, you're gonna be busy as a bee.

So I thought I was smart by saying "when I get older I'm gonna have a gardener" and my moms said what does that have to do with the price of rice in China? And the meek shall inherit the earth. You'll be done in no time at all, so don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. Time is of essence and I'm gonna be on you like white on rice but If you play your cards right and don't give me a snow job, you can have your cake and eat it too.

If people continuously instill positive messages and information into a child's mind, shouldn't the
message reach the soul of that child? Shouldn't it become a part of who they are and their roots as a person? Maybe the simplest messages you learned as a child is to have some real depth and answers in them. As a teenager your mind is still under construction, the cliche's my mom spoke were not only a strategy for me to get the message, but building blocks to apply them. I realized the more things change, the more they stay the same.
