Bon Ma Tante

While in Dominican Republic I had the pleasure of meeting Willie and his wife Olga. They are the couple my mom has living in the beach house to care for it while she is stateside. What an amazing pair those two are. I have never in my life met someone so caring, humble, and friendly, I fell in love with them from day one (OK Day TWO!!). This wasn't hard, except for the fact that Olga speak NO Spanish OR English, but the gremlins and I just had to get on board with learning Haitian Creole.
They were expecting their third child, but it wasn't necessarily a great time for them. Last year, they lost their oldest son at the young age of four to a sudden illness, and Olga was seven months pregnant at the time, and miscarried shortly after. Tragic, my heart went out to them.
I so wanted to meet the new addition before I left, but she wasn't due till late August, and I just wasn't going to be around THAT long (Not for lack of desire, I tell ya). Although about a week before I was due to leave, I noticed, Olga was looking a little different, and rememebr mentioning to my mom that I think Olga will give birth SOON!
Two days before I was due to come home, Willie mentioned that they had to go into town, because Olga is not feeling well and bleeding. I immediately offered to drive them so they did not have to rely on the public transit system, but assured him everything was going to be Alright, and he MAY meet his Son that day.
I dropped them off at the hospital and headed home, only to return shortly after because they were giving them a very hard time. I'm not sure if it was because they were Hatian Immigrants, or their Spanish, nonetheless I headed over. A few talks with the doctors, we got Olga to the Emergency room, and things happened really quickly form that point on. Long story short.... I'm a new Auntie... A GOOD Auntie.. Bon Ma Tante...

Lucas Alexander was born.... and not only was I given the honor to name him, but also the honor of being his god mother...

Mom vs. The Public School System

A few months back I took the girls to get tested because I was a little concerned with Luna's Speech, turns out both girls did exceptionally well, and therefor did NOT qualify for preschool. Much to my surprise, when we arrived back form our trip, there was a letter form the public school system advising me they had been accepted in a peer program. Apparently they like to have a handful of students to be examples for the others. (Blushing proud momma here)

Well, I immediately called for an appointment to try and register them, and the night before the appointment Luna was running a little fever, but with a little Tylenol, it went away to never return. That morning, I made a call.... I decided to keep my appointment. Thinking that I really need to get in there as soon as possible considering that I have TWO toddlers to accommodate. As soon as we arrived Luna started whining and complaining that she wanted to go home, but unfortunately I figured she was just bored.

All that whining led to vomiting. I asked the receptionist for some sort of bucket, and she handed me a paper towel. A paper towel? Really?
Well as you can guess there was puke everywhere, I had to finally be a bit more specific and ask for her trash can.
At this point I'm a little embarrassed, but I'm guessing something just didn't settle right with Luna's stomach.

We headed to the bathroom and cleaned up. She said she felt much better. Upon entering the main office again, I get TOLD, that I NEED to reschedule. Well, as a Military mom of twin toddlers, I am grateful I MADE it there, and thinking about doing it AGAIN sent chills up my spine. I unfortunately live far from home, and do not have my mom, a friend, a provider, or anyone I can drop the girls off to when things need to get done. We are not privy to all those luxuries... Besides, Luna said she felt much better, so I told her I'd like to hold out a few more minutes.

Well, a little bit later, the gremlins decide they need to use the restroom, so I go, and THIS time (I've been there for nearly an hour now waiting for my APPOINTMENT) I was again TOLD I NEED to reschedule. At my polite protest, the registrant comes out and exclaims her 10 am appointment is already here and she can NOT do 2 kids in 4 minutes.. (How exactly is that MY fault) and then proceeds to ADVISE me that My PLACE is at home with my CHILDREN and NOT there...
Quite honestly I rescheduled and bit my tongue ONLY because I NEEDED something from them (registering my children). But I left there feeling belittled, humiliated, and quite frankly annoyed.

Menu ReVamp Monday

I've been doing Menu plan Monday for a while now, and it's been great, but honestly I have not been able to keep with the menu. I have started doing LESS cooking. Although I LOVE to cook, I've found that by REVamping the Menu, I can have dinner on the table everyday, but only cook 3-4 days a week, the rest of the days it's mearly TOUCHING UP...

So, my menu this week will look a little more like... THIS...

Monday..................... Rosemary Pork Tenderloin w/ Moro de Guandules and Tostones

Tuesday.....................Salmon Citrus Salad and White Rice

Wednesday..............Pork Taquitos (w/ LO pork) w/ Guac and Pico de Gallo

Thursday................. Pollo Wasakaka w/ Arroz con Fideo and Grilled Asparagus

Friday....................... Chicken Enchiladas (w/ LO Chicken Guac and Pico de Gallo)

Saturday..................Free Day

Sunday..................... Left Overs

This should take the guessing out of cooking, save us some money when it comes to groceries shopping, and help me keep to the meals I CAN eat...

The Children's Museum

As you can tell by the attire, I'm a bit behind on this post.. Bwahahahahaha... But, I thought I'd share it none the less.

We took a trip to our local Children's Museum and had a BLAST.

Although small, it offered a LOT of hands on exhibits.

Even the Grown Up had a Good Time.. lol

The girls got to learn a little history with out even knowing it.. (Sneaky RIGHT?? )

Daddy even got in on the fun!!

We will definitely be back..

Our Trip To Paradise

So, I had a really nice visit home. I hadn't been back in over 10 years, and 30 days was NOT enough. I can't wait to go back. The flight out was OK.. We departed early and despite the issue with security it went pretty well. The gremlins did MARVELOUSLY, and even napped while in the air. Yipee for meeeeee.

Once we arrived, I was stoked, it was apparent we were home form the instant we stepped off the plane. The air was different, the atmosphere, the people, the language, everything and I was in heaven. Not that I'm not appreciative of being an American or living here, but it sure was nice to engulf myself in the culture again, and dive right in we DID...

As we piled all our luggage and ourselves into a small SUV all I could think about was my first BEER!!!!

(YEAH we INVENTED the clown car theory)

Our beach house was on the other side of the island and although the drive took us almost 4 hours, it was well worth it. I was immersed in the view. The gremlins were ecstatic and we were ready to tackle the adventure ahead of us.

This week's question is....

What do you do with your kids in the summer?

Well, the gremlins keep me insanely busy, and ADORE the water, we hit the beach, the pool, the parks, we camp, we bowl, and we play!!!!! I absolutely adore summer with my girls.

This summer we plan to spend a moth in the Dominican Republic. I am UBER excited, since it's been over 10 years since I've been back, and my family there has never met the gremlins. (A little scurd about the plane ride alone with them, but I'm counting on some good drugs... JUST KIDDING)

What do YOU do during the summer? What do YOU look forward to? What's the BIG plan THIS summer?

Sunday..................... Left Overs
