We’re excited to be a part of SweetWater’s upcoming Brew Your Cask Off event on Saturday, March 20. According to SweetWater:

We invited 75 special guests to roll up their sleeves, channel their inner brewer, and create a one of a kind cask! Enjoy a plethora of Real Ale created by our Retailers, a few Celebrities, some Media Folks, Home Brewers & our favorite Charities under the watchful eye of SweetWater brewers. Pre Sale $30 online or $35 day of for unlimited Cask samples.

Monday Night brewed up our own batch of cask ale for the event, which we’re calling Smooth Operator, sweetened with dates, smoothed with oats and finished with a touch of oak-smoked malt.

Wait, where did everybody go?

So apparently only 33.33% (repeating, of course) of Monday Night Brewing full-time staffers will be in town tonight. Which means we won’t be able to brew. I know you’re devastated. SUCK IT UP, PARTY PEEPS.

We’re targeting next week for sure.

The Bachelor says “no” to brewing tonight

Joel has requested that we not brew any beer tonight so he can live-tweet the finale of The Bachelor. We tried to tell him that The Bachelor was a little girly. But he was very convincing. This event only comes once, and Tenley is clearly the right choice for Jake. CLEARLY.

So for those of you are have been forced into watching The Bachelor tonight (and the few of you who are watching it willingly), may I suggest the following:

A drinking game.

Why we love beer

It’s no surprise that we love beer. If it IS a surprise, you clearly have trouble drawing reasonable conclusions from what you have read. But why do we love beer? Our reasons are varied, and we’d love to hear yours. Here are some of my top reasons, in no particular order:

Beer is alive. The element of live yeast makes it so dern interesting.
Beer is broad. The differences between a light lager and a Russian Imperial Stout are astounding. And yet both are beer. Though notice I didn’t capitalize light lager.
Beer spans generational, economic, and cultural constructs. Much like Waffle House, those who enjoy beer come from all walks of life. It is a true commonality in a world of differences.
Beer is calming. There is nothing better than winding down with a quality beer (especially a Monday Night beer) at the end of a long day.
Beer brings people together. Beer provides that little bit of a reason needed to hang out with those we love. “Hey Bob, want to grab a beer sometime?” Or “Hey Justin Timberlake, want to grab a beer sometime?” I like to pretend I’m friends with Justin Timberlake.

Yep. I think I’m going to end that one on Justin Timberlake. So what are YOUR reasons for loving beer?

Monday Night recap: “Peanut Butter Lady Time” edition

Well, folks. Peanut Butter Lady Time, our version of Ladies’ Night, was a huge success. A larger success than your mom.

Speaking of your mom, we brewed a batch of our Blind Pirate Double IPA. This beer always goes quickly, and we’re already excited about tasting it. Jeff was burning the midnight oil at work last night (I don’t know why they don’t have electricity in Midtown yet), but fortunately Scott stepped up. In honor of Scott’s contributions last night, I put forth the following haiku:

The wood was too wet.
They said it couldn’t be lit.
Scott said, “Gasoline.”

Scott also gave some tours, such as the one below. We have no way of verifying that he knew what he was talking about.

We had Eye Patch Ale, Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale, and some of our capitalist barleywine, Laissez-Faire, on tap. Thanks to all who came! Except for Joel.
