Religion has always been a recurrent theme in Fashion. Goddess, gods, priest… we’ve seen them all on the runway. Astrid Andersen pushed the concept even further for her spring summer collection with an army of basketball players dressed as Gods. Stained glass print (Michael Jordan?), barefoot models, nun’s capes, laces (and Faithless’s hit ‘God is a DJ’ playing), her models are the new prophets. Since launching her line in 2010, Astrid Anderson has continuously explored sportswear codes, creating unusual combos where sophistication marries experimental (mesh and fur, neon color and laces) and cool kids flirt with rappers.

Converse reunites with Comme des Garçons PLAY for a new sneakers collection. This third collaboration features all-over heart pattern on the Converse Pro Leather sneakers and is available in four styles. As always, the result is quirky and offers a cool new take on the 1976 basketball sneaker. The Comme des Garçons PLAY for Converse Pro Leather is available in Milk and Black Mid and Ox silhouettes. All styles will be available on Dover Street Market’s website and at the Comme des Garçons NYC store starting May 28, in Paris and London starting June 1 and at Comme des Garçons stores in Tokyo and throughout Asia starting June 21 for a suggested retail price of $130-140.

I bought my first 501′s in New York City. It was a SHRINK-TO-FIT that I never want to shrink, so I have them dry cleaned. I find their texture, fit and tint way too cool to be washed out. I still have them, and they have never touched water ! Some Levis fans were surprised by this unconventional treatment but I can guarantee their patina is now sublime. The New 501 in color Levis is one of the brands that we all go for whether we need a classic fit or want to try their latest models. Levis has evolved with our needs, adjusting fit and construction over and over. For Levis 140th anniversary, they launched new colors (mineral red, chalk blue, ivy green, true chino and white) perfect for summer. It still the same Levis but different. The Historical Evolution of the 501® Jean Looking back at the 501 history is quite fascinating. From their creation on May 20, 1873 to now, this modern icon has lived multiple lives. You find below a short timeline featuring their evolution. You can also visit the fascinating Levis Vintage Clothing website for more info. 1890 The 1890 501® jean is a loose, [...]

For his spring summer collection, Christopher developed tribal fringed hats and skirts as statement pieces inspired mostly by the 1970′s English folk movement and by photographer James Pearson-Howe’s series, British folk, an exploration of a ”darker, more obscure cultural traditions that persist in the UK”. And he, for an even more odd touch, had his models’ faces painted with flowers. But behind what could be considered first as eccentric is actually, if you look closely, a very well-thought out streetwear collection made of classic polos, elasticized shorts, sharp denim jackets, striped crew neck sweaters and tailored shirts. Even his color palette made of coral, light blue, navy blue, dark emerald, soft grey, and beige, while being mostly color-blocking, is classic. Like some of his fellow designers this season, Christopher played with conventions, redefining menswear, but like nobody else, he showcased a good example of what British’s identity is, traditional but droll. Spring Summer Christopher Shannon x Cambridge Satchel Company Collection This collaboration is really punk. Love the white fringed satchel.

Created in 1990 by Gianni Versace as a present to Donatella, Versus has always been the younger and provocative side of the Versace empire. After 15 successful years, the brand was put on hold and then relaunched in 2009 with Christopher Kane as creative director who reinvigorated the brand during 4 years. After his departure last november, Donatella decided to redefine Versus. Two collections were launched last week in NYC, one capsule collection was designed by the flamboyant JW Anderson and the other one by the in-house design team. Both collections embraced Versus 90′s DNA. JW Anderson’s vision, more post grunge, is faithful to his style, rebellious, fearless and androgynous. Versus Versace’s collection, more baroque, is all about optical print, studded leather, safety-pin, and gold chains trompes l’oeil. While visually different, both embraced Versus heritage celebrating creativity, nightlife and extravagance. Now with H&M and TopShop inviting talented designers to design capsule collections every season, it’s definitely a bold commercial move from Versace to use the same marketing technic especially with a such young designer.
I wanted to name this post “weird t-shirts” but finally decided to opt for geometric, finding it less scary. But I do think some of them are a bit weird – and yet so intriguing – like the Raf Simons fence series, bold pattern and very well done 3D effect or the McQueen kaleidoscopic print. I’ve been waiting for a long time for an opportunity to feature Jonathan Saunders. His work on prints this season is totally crazy and very Pop Art. I really love it. And then a few classics with the adorable Comme des Garcons cute polka dots and the very surprising Givenchy paisley t-shirt (no Madonna or bulldog??). The lines are simple but bold and the construction is impeccable. The collection embraces modern trends like camo while sticking to a timeless design.
