December 7 1941 - Pearl Harbor Tribute December 7, 1941.On December 7, 1941, Japanese planes attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory killing more than 2,300 Americans. The U.S.S. Arizona was completely destroyed and the U.S.S. Oklahoma capsized. The attack sank three other ships and damaged many additional vessels. More than 180 aircraft were destroyed.

A hurried dispatch from the ranking United States naval officer in Pearl Harbor, Commander in Chief Pacific, to all major navy commands and fleet units provided the first official word of the attack at the ill-prepared Pearl Harbor base. It said simply: AIR RAID ON PEARL HARBOR X THIS IS NOT DRILL.

Orange Telugu Movie Review

Story

Set on the backdrop of Australia, Ram (Ramcharan) is an youngster who loves graffiti but he doesn’t believe in love for lifetime. He wants to say truth all the while with respect to love life and live with open mind, open thought and open action with his partner.

This leads to a clash of ideology with Jaanu (Genelia) who studies in the same college and what starts out as a romantic tale between them both turns out to be a relationship of confusion and complications. Telugu Movie Reviews

Ram explains this entire story as his flash back while a police cop (Prakash Raj) asks him as a part of informal interrogation (!)

Jaanu believes in everlasting love but given the thought process of Ram, will they be together? Can they really love each other? All this forms the rest of the story.

Artists Performance:

Ramcharan did his best to fit the lover boy tag and he was neat in his dance and dialogue delivery. Two things he must avoid- a clean shave and full body shots while in a group. There was no emotional depth in his character so his body language was average.

Genelia was depressing and disappointing. Her costumes were bizarre, the make up was patchy and her face looked blotted. She has lost the innocence and charm. Perhaps it is age but the blame also goes to the styling and her image etching. Performance wise, she was regular and didn’t have any special acts.

Shahzahn comes like a breath of fresh air and though she was brief, she looks cute and attractive. She has the potential to take lead roles.

Prakashraj was regular, Brahmi’s comedy was not upto the mark, Prabhu and Pavitra Lokesh were alright, Vennela Kishore was wasted, Madhurima was quick but sweet, Naga Babu made his presence felt. The others didn’t have much to offer except filling the screens and rolling out few lines.

Highlights:
Songs (although no much variety among each other)
Dances by Ram Charan
Production Values

Disappointments:
Theme
Dialogue
Lack of comedy
Lack of emotion quotient
Characterizations

Final Analysis:

The fundamental blunder in the film is that when speaking about love it should be run on emotions and feeling but not on calculation. To make things worse, Baskar tries to explain the calculation with his own narrative style which was rather confusing. He had something noble and different in mind but he could not conceive it in the right manner on the screen. There is no emotion, no romance, no chemistry between the lead pair, no sentiment and above all, no comedy. At one stage, it becomes like a boring mathematics class where the audience have become students and are trying to understand what Professor Bhaskar is trying to explain on the love algorithm.

The other disappointment is the philosophy on love. While it is nice to have an ocean full of love, it is common sense that love alone is not life. They are two different entities and the essence of life is in striking a balance between both. Fortunately, what Baskar was trying to say ended up confusing many in the theatre but to those who may have understood a fraction of it, this is truly dangerous. On the other hand, there are quite a number of instances where Bhaskar tried to take the route of Gautam Menon but the difference is chalk and cheese.

The good side of the film is the songs and their picturization which was really impressive and visually appealing. Charan’s efforts in songs were commendable. The fight sequence which involves the spray cans was also creative and colorful. As for his much hyped sky diving stunt, that is not so appealing as expected.

Overall, the film is good on presentation but very poor in content and completely blotched on narration and concept. While the masses have nothing in it, the class audience will feel like they are in a classroom. And regarding the mega fans…well, it looks like 2010 is just not their year as their favorite heroes seem to be dealing with unconventional characters.

Japanese Rain Goggles - “Two and a Half Men” Recap: Dean Martin and the Gold Digger

noreply@blogger.com (Rini Setyowati) — Tue, 23 Nov 2010 06:33:00 +0000

Japanese Rain Goggles - “Two and a Half Men” Recap: Dean Martin and the Gold Digger.**SPOILER ALERT – Plot information ahead. You’ve been warned!**

We open with the Harper family all gathered for a reasonably happy and festive Thanksgiving – at least for them. Charlie even makes a heartfelt toast about the importance of family. Then the doorbell rings – a woman from his past. Remember Courtney, the con artist played by Jenny McCarthy a few seasons back? Well it seems she was just released from prison. A beautiful woman, who has not had sex in 3 years, waiting at Charlie’s door: He is so outta there!

A few days later, Charlie and Courtney return from Vegas. They have been on something of a shopping spree it would appear. Alan is concerned. He knows the kind of trouble this woman is.

However, their mother Eleanor seems less troubled. Not much one can do when a “grasping, greedy woman sinks her claws into a man,” she says. It is then that we are treated to an awesome cameo appearance by comedy legend Carl Reiner as Mr. Pepper – a.k.a. “the guy banging your mother.” Yes, Eleanor knows a thing or two about keeping her sugar daddy happy.

Still, Alan might have reason to be concerned. Since this tryst with Courtney started up, Charlie has been a bit of a mess: black eye, bum arm, broken toe. As long as Courtney has Charlie’s credit cards and the keys to his Mercedes, she does not seem concerned. Why should she be? Her “brother,” who happens to be of a different race, is there to take her on a night on the town.

“She’s the woman I’m meant to be with,” Charlie says to Alan, looking pathetic and vulnerable in the bathtub. In the next scene, it appears he has come to his senses. He throws Courtney out. Good! Or is it?

Moments later, Charlie is seized with the belief that he has to get this no good woman back and walks through the plate glass of his patio door. The writers did not spare any of graphic details in this bloody scene!

The bad news? Courtney is not gone quite that easy. Looks like we will be stuck with her for a few more weeks — at the very least. It’s hard to gain a clear perspective when you see the world through Japanese rain goggles.

Pope Condoms - Pope says some condom use 'first step' of morality

noreply@blogger.com (Rini Setyowati) — Sun, 21 Nov 2010 13:29:00 +0000

Pope Condoms - Pope says some condom use 'first step' of morality.VATICAN CITY – Pope Benedict XVI has opened the door on the previously taboo subject of condoms as a way to fight HIV, saying male prostitutes who use condoms may be beginning to act responsibly. It's a stunning comment for a pontiff who has blamed condoms for making the AIDS crisis worse.

The pope made the comments in an interview with a German journalist published as a book entitled "Light of the World: The Pope, the Church and the Signs of the Times," which is being released Tuesday. The Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano ran excerpts on Saturday.

Church teaching has long opposed condoms because they are a form of artificial contraception, although the Vatican has never released an explicit policy about condoms and HIV. The Vatican has been harshly criticized for its position.

Benedict said that condoms are not a moral solution to stopping AIDS. But he said in some cases, such as for male prostitutes, their use could represent a first step in assuming moral responsibility "in the intention of reducing the risk of infection."

Benedict made the comment in response to a general question about Africa, where heterosexual HIV spread is rampant.

He used as a specific example male prostitutes, for whom contraception is not usually an issue, but did not mention married couples where one spouse is infected. The Vatican has come under pressure from even church officials to condone condom use for such monogamous married couples to protect the uninfected spouse from transmission.

Benedict drew the wrath of the United Nations, European governments and AIDS activists when, en route to Africa in 2009, he told reporters that the AIDS problem on the continent couldn't be resolved by distributing condoms. "On the contrary, it increases the problem," he said then.

Journalist Peter Seewald, who interviewed Benedict over the course of six days this summer, raised the Africa condom comments, asking him if it wasn't "madness" for the Vatican to forbid a high-risk population from using condoms.

"There may be a basis in the case of some individuals, as perhaps when a male prostitute uses a condom, where this can be a first step in the direction of a moralization, a first assumption of responsibility," Benedict said.

Asked if that meant that the church wasn't opposed in principle to condoms, the pope replied:

The church "of course does not regard it as a real or moral solution, but in this or that case, there can be nonetheless in the intention of reducing the risk of infection, a first step in a movement toward a different way, a more human way, of living sexuality," according to an English translation of the book obtained by The Associated Press.

Elsewhere in the book he reaffirmed church teaching opposing artificial contraception.

"How many children are killed who might one day have been geniuses, who could have given humanity something new, who could have given us a new Mozart or some new technical discovery?" he asked rhetorically.

He reiterated the church's position that abstinence and marital fidelity is the only sure way to prevent HIV.

The English publisher of the book, Rev. Joseph Fessio, said the pope was not justifying condom use as a lesser of two evils.

"This is not a justification," he said. Rather, "The intention of protecting the other from disease, of using a condom, may be a sign of an awakening moral responsibility."

However, the Rev. Jim Martin, a Catholic writer, said the comments were certainly a departure, an exception where there had never been an exception before.

"While some bishops and archbishops have spoken in this way, the pope has never affirmed this," Martin said. "And it's interesting that he uses as an example someone who is trying to act morally to someone else by not passing on an infection, which was always the stance of those people who favored condoms in cases of HIV and AIDS. So it does mark a departure."

The English translation of the original German specified "male prostitute." The Italian translation in L'Osservatore Romano, however, used the feminine "prostitute." The discrepancy wasn't immediately clear.

Cardinal Elio Sgreccia, the Vatican's longtime top official on bioethics and sexuality, elaborated on the pontiff's comments, stressing that it was imperative to "make certain that this is the only way to save a life." Sgreccia told the Italian news agency ANSA that that is why the pope on the condom issue "dealt with it in the realm of the exceptional."

The condom question was one that "needed an answer for a long time," Sgreccia said. "If Benedict XVI raised the question of exceptions, this exception must be accepted ... and it must be verified that this is the only way to save life. This must be demonstrated," Sgreccia said.

In the 1960s, the Vatican itself condoned giving contraceptive pills to nuns at risk of rape by fighters in the Congo to prevent pregnancy, arguing that the contraception was a lesser evil than pregnancy.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans said clearly the pope wasn't encouraging condom use.

"I think the pope has been very strong in saying condoms do not solve the problem of morality and do not solve the problem of good sex education. But if a person chooses not to follow the teaching of Christ in the church, they are at least obliged to prevent another person from contracting a disease that is deadly," he said.

In Africa, Benedict's comments drew praise among gays and AIDS activists.

"If he's talking about condoms, it's a step in the right direction," said David Kamau, who heads the nonprofit Kenya Treatment Access Movement. "It's accepting the reality on the ground ... If the Church has failed to get people to follow its moral values and practice abstinence, they should take the next best step and encourage condom use."

John Kitte, a gay Ugandan, said the pope was acting as a good parent.

"He minds about all the people living on earth. What he has suggested is very good and I encourage gays to take his advice seriously."

But an evangelist pastor in the Uganda capital of Kampala, Solomon Male, argued the pope shouldn't be granting any recognition of or encouragement to gays.

"If the Pope is saying so, then he has not read the Bible," he said. "Gay acts are bad. It is abominable and should not take place."

Christian Weisner, of the pro-reform group We Are Church in the pope's native Germany, said the pope's comments were "surprising, and if that's the case one can be happy about the pope's ability to learn."

In other comments in the book, Benedict said:

• If a pope is no longer physically, psychologically or spiritually capable of doing his job, then he has the "right, and under some circumstances, also an obligation to resign."

_He was surprised by the scale of clerical sex abuse, particularly in his native Germany, and acknowledged that the Vatican could have better communicated its response. "One can always wonder whether the pope should not speak more often."

• On Islam in Europe, he declined to endorse such moves as France's banning the burqa or Switzerland's citizen referendum to forbid topping mosques with minarets.

"Christians are tolerant, and in that respect they also allow others to have their self-image," Benedict replied when asked if Christians should be "glad" about such initiatives. "As for the burqa, I can see no reason for a general ban."

• On Pope Pius XII, the wartime pontiff accused by some Jewish groups of staying publicly silent on the Holocaust: Some historians have asked the Vatican to put Pius' sainthood process on hold until the Holy See opens up its archives from his papacy. But Benedict said an internal "inspection" of those unpublished documents failed to support "negative" allegations against Pius.

"It is perfectly clear that as soon as he protested publicly, the Germans would have ceased to respect" Vatican extraterritoriality of convents and monasteries who were sheltering Jews from the Nazi occupiers in Rome. "The thousands who had found a safe haven ... would have been surely deported," Benedict argued.

In the book, Benedict also offers insights into his private life, saying he enjoys watching TV at home in the evenings with his secretaries and the four women who take care of his apartment, preferring the news and an Italian TV show from decades ago "Don Camillo and Peppone" about a parish priest and his bumbling assistant.

He said he always wears his white cassock, never a sweater, and wears an old Junghans watch that was left to him by his sister when she died. When he prays, he said, he prays to the Lord as well as the saints and considers himself good friends with Sts. Augustine, Bonaventure and Thomas Aquinas.

In the book, he comes across as open, charming and funny — and deeply concerned about his church, its people and their future.

He reflects on the legacy of the landmark 1968 encyclical, "Humanae vitae," where Pope Paul VI laid out the church's opposition to artificial contraception. Decades later, "the basic lines of `Humanae vitae' are still correct."

Still, the pope said, sexual ethics today pose a huge question. "It is correct there is much in this area that needs to be pondered and expressed in new ways."

He championed the church's advocacy of the so-called "rhythm method," by which a married couple who don't want to conceive avoid intercourse on days when the woman is likely to be fertile, saying that is "not just a method but a way of life."

"And that is something fundamentally different from when I take the pill without binding myself interiorly to another person, so that I can jump into bed with a random acquaintance," Benedict said.

Guzarish Movie Review

noreply@blogger.com (Rini Setyowati) — Fri, 19 Nov 2010 13:29:00 +0000

Guzarish Movie Review - Guzaarish Movie Review.Self-indulgence and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Sigh. Great to watch, but almost impossible to engage with nowadays. The central theme is super-solemn. The sets are from abstract nowhere-land, merging the Grimm Brothers' tales with Victorian England. The acting and the mannerisms are theatrical. The songs are unhurried verse set to equally languorous-sounding tunes. Overall, it looks like a package that ought to belong to Broadway.

And yet somehow, the man forgets he has an audience. In flesh and blood.

Guzaarish is just that - the work of an artist who talks to himself a lot. The problem isn't that it's too "exotic" or over-romantic. The result looks - and feels - like a coffee table book of poetic paintings of still-life and people in various moods. It's nice if you like that kind of thing, but the point is that you are here for a movie with live emotions, not a Flickr slide show.

How to use Free YouTube to iPod and PSP Converter

The unsettling theme - mercy killing - may be blamed for the coldness that is Guzaarish, but only partly so. Black had an overwhelming soul despite the grave issue that it dealt with, and not just because of the star cast. Guzaarish lacks audience connect despite having a firecracker Hrithik Roshan as a quadriplegic, and Aishwarya Rai by his side throughout.

The movie deals with Ethan Mascarenhas (Hrithik Roshan), a brilliant magician who has been paralyzed from the neck down and has lived 14 years of his quadriplegic life with dignity. He is held in awe, love and admiration by the world around him, having released a successful motivational book and running a popular radio show of his own.

When he decides he's had enough of being a vegetable, and files an appeal to a court to let him take the euthanasia option, he rakes up a flurry of emotions in the people in his life. One of them is Sophia (Aishwarya Rai), his doting caretaker who's never once taken a day off in her 12 years of duty towards him.

Barring a few truly beautiful scenes, like the scenes at the get-together in towards the end of the movie, or the ones which have Ethan telling us why his choice to live or die is his and his alone, Guzaarish is quite a 2-dimensional experience. There are no exhilarating moments, no inspirational speeches, and very little talk of sunshine.

While it's clear that euthanasia is tricky terrain, just like suicide is, the film is clearly passionate in supporting it. It's all about a man who wants to die - and compelling though his reasons are, talking about giving life a shot is surely a far more cheerful option than discussing death.

However, somehow, there's no heartbeat in all the melodrama. A miracle, really, considering that Hrithik Rishan pulls off an explosive performance as the wisecracking, Ethan.

In fact, Aishwarya Rai is a symptom of just how not aligned Bhansali's vision and audience expectations are - she looks smothered in blindingly-gaudy make-up and incongruous clothing, and doesn't give you anything else to remember her in this movie for. She has enormous screen presence but contributes about nothing to the emotional quotient of the flick.

Then, there's Aditya, who gets to do pretty much the same stuff that he did in Action Replay. Only, it's a role that leads nowhere. Still, we're sure he'd like to embellish his resume with it.

The rest of the characters range from well-etched roles, like Shernaz Patel's (Devyani Dutta, Ethan's lawyer-friend); to fleeting appearances like that of Rajit Kapur, the vehement prosecutor.

Bhansali has composed the music himself, and, evidently, it's yet another thing that he did purely for himself. The tunes accentuate the faraway feel that the film has.

Guzaarish is not a good bet this weekend if a yawn-fest isn't on your plans.

Jessica Simpson Engagement Ring 2010 - Jessica-Simpson Jessica Simpson's engagement ring: Bling! The pop singer/reality star/whatever she is now showed off her new jewelry in Kansas City over the weekend. Hope this time's the charm, Jess. [People]

Mike Tompkins helps 'Today' go viral: The YouTube star lent his talents to a "Today" show cover of Taio Cruz's "Dynamite." We'd tell Matt Lauer to stick to interviewing musicians, but that hasn't been going so well for him, either. [TV Guide]
