I have now sewed the dress I was talking about in my previous entry. I was going to do all sort of fancy stuff with it but in the end I decided to go with the original instructions. I only added the belt. In pictures it looks bit wonky… but I think it’s better on me. :) It’s very basic and simply pattern but very nice to wear on hot summer days.

Or one many that I have in my mind. Bags for Jo’s mum and for Melly are also in the list. Anyway I bought this lovely grey cotton last autumn and I have been thinking a lot what I could do out of it (I knew it would be a dress). So today I happened to see a pattern in Helsingin Sanomat (the biggest newspaper in Finland). It’s quite minimalistic but I’ll try to spice it up bit. :D

And then my tablecloth was 50cm shorter

Few weeks a go I was in kitchen doing something, when it came in my mind that I could make bag of the tablecloth (made of oilcloth) which I had bought from Hemtext about year ago – half price, 10 € I think. And today I finally put my plan in action, while watching the Linux Outlaws Live podcast I draw the pattern, pretty basic one as you can see, I used my mother’s old leather bag as model and cut the pieces. It is quite late so I didn’t start sewing tonight. This is kind of preview what’s going on. Anyway It needs still the lining. I have to look what I have or then I have to wait until I have money again.

I cut a 50cm wide piece off the cloth but all together I’d say this bag didn’t require more than 50×100 cm piece (cloth self was about 150cm wide).

Here are the pictures:

That carpet btw, is made by my mother. Front view.

And inside, yes it’s pins that are keeping the “prototype” in one piece.

Fabrics!

Some fabrics I have. I’m so thankful to my mum, who lets me “shop” in her stock. related to the winter coat, well I’m at the moment sewing the pockets to it (it took 100 years from me to do that * shrug * ). Anyway, what I have in my mind now.I found one pretty dress pattern from Burda magazine and I was thinking to use the dotted fabric for that. I found another beautiful dress from Burda Style called Gerdie – Malissa var. – for that I have to buy some new though. And then I’m trying to make round handbag. I would love to use linen for that but then I should wait for a while, because mum gave me just “teaser pieces” PAH with her. :P Anyway hopefully I get this stuff done in some point. I have other ehh more important things to do too.

Almost done

Unfortunately no photos of the coat as silly me left the camera at parents. Well maybe I buy film for my old camera and try to find an scanner. This may take some time though. :P But to business. I was suddenly hit by surprising wave of action, which caused that my winter coat is almost done. It needs still buttons, hem and belt done. I have been thinking adding also pockets, because I think pockets are important but I’ll see how that will end. I took photo of the buttons though already before Christmas. I also decided to use green cotton as lining (bought before Christmas, I don’t know why I bought it, probably because it was pretty :) ). Plus I changed the pattern from Talea to Elisabeth (desgined by ceregana). I guess I wanted something simple and elegant in the end.

In other news. I got new better scissors for Christmas and a beautiful cat patchwork from my mother.
