Learning languages and remembering what you learned will never be easy, even for the beginners and we have experienced that, time and time again.

LanguageTutor is meant for the advanced learners seeking to improve on an existing vocabulary and keeping the words they learned present in memory for a longer time. You might not be able to practice everyday or every week. More time passing and your memory fades away.

Our smart repetition learning algorithm works very well for that on LanguageTutor.

To make it even better, we have recently added a new feature, which brings conveniently an online dictionary whenever you feel you need to check something about the given answers to a question and perhaps wish to understand better the subtleties of the language. The online dictionary comes with an additional benefit with a simple way to get the words of your choice pronounced by a native speaker voice at the click of a button.

Moreover, we reworked our database to make it fully partitioned, across all 54 lessons, in basic words and advanced words. This was a major work and we have done that using all resources available for the identification of the most useful words in order to select the basic words. We have compared multiple school books and files in several languages to arrive to our final choice, and after we trimmed some long lessons, very rich in vocabulary, working with LanguageTutor is a little easier and more productive.

Now, what have we done that, the door was opened to use those basic words only for a reduced vocabulary database that would fit the needs for beginners and intermediate language learners.

Here we are with a new product, a student version of LanguageTutor, we simply named StudentTutor.

What else? Yes! We improved the interface, skinned it with a more pleasant look on a dark background, shrunk it to fit, if needed, on notebooks with a 800×600 screen resolution and therefore catering to frugal but demanding students. Our original compatibility with most operating systems like Windows, Mac OS X and Linux came very handy to cover multiple computer formats on the software as well as on the hardware side.

We kept the dual database such francophones can learn Spanish or English, and use the reverse database for improving in their learning as well as offering to the Spanish or English speakers exactly the same product. We can more easily maintain and support our product line to the best possible level.

All said and done, StudentTutor is out today and you can check it on our new websites at http://moreVocabulary.com in English and http://foreignVocabulary.com in French and probably soon in Spanish. Our website has also been relooked and made more pleasant to use and navigate, thanks to a very good artist web designer.

But let’s take a break and support our new products for the benefits of the large community of language students in Spanish, in French and in English.

LanguageTutor from moreVocabulary is a foreign vocabulary learning software for everyone to use.
We are finishing up in this last post to list the features of our coming software:

The current demos are available from our website http://morevocabulary.com/order.html:

– User can select up to 4 lessons at any time and keep them in a current lesson list for instant access.

– We have incorporated in the databases a very limited number of duplicate questions to ensure you learn the right words regardless of your choice of lessons.

– When you have a reservation or a comment about a word or expression or about the proposed translation, a feedback button lets you access your email and correspond with the software authors.

– When you have temporary or permanent difficulty working with a word or expression, you can use the option to review the question later or to eliminate it definitively from your vocabulary list.

– You can optionally learn how to translate words and expressions from your mother language into the language you want to study (productive learning) and in the reverse order (receptive learning).

– The software displays the most recent question asked and all answers as a reference for the user information.

– The application works on all Windows OS, Apple Mac OS and Linux

– The software checks for your knowledge of the correct articles to be used in front of the nouns in French and Spanish since they are important part of those languages to learn.

– The software corrects some of your typing mistakes by eliminating leading and trailing unwanted spaces.

– The software is setup to save you some time when you have to enter nouns in English by allowing you to skip the definite article “the”. Typing this article every time you encounter a noun would not add any value to your learning.

An important and unique feature of our new coming program is that questions may come with an attached context.

When a word has several other meanings, you might actually have more than one correct answer for a particular question.

Each particular word or group of words might be related to a particular object, person or animal, fact or might be related to an expression like a question or an interjection. Sometimes such a concept or idea could be expressed in the foreign language with several different words. The richness and the beauty of any language are expressed in a variety of manners like words having several synonyms in one language and none in another.

Our program will pause in the instance of synonyms and will display up to 3 more possible answer(s) and thereby will provide all correct answers to the question within a given context, whenever it was necessary for avoiding any confusion in the question.

I would like to discuss one of the main issues encountered with using reverse flashcards programs, when you learn languages.

– Let’s take the example of the English word “striped”, like in the expression “I am wearing a striped jacket”.

You would translate “striped” for a “chaqueta” in Spanish by “a rayas” or “de rayas” but the words “rayada” and “listada” would also be correct.
Note that those last 2 Spanish words have a different meaning and means also “scratched” in English.

– The same word translated for a “veste” in French will be “à rayures”, “rayée”, “striée” and even “zébrée”

– The reverse translation for the French “rayé” as an adjective is therefore “striped” for a fabric or “scratched” for a record or for a surface. You may also use “crossed out” in English for this word.

There are many examples such as this in foreign languages which makes learning language very funny sometimes. The point is that a serious vocabulary learning program must use for each word to learn a precise context, like “fabric” or “record, surface” to get the user to learn the right word in the proper context. Otherwise, so many possible situations or contexts will create a lot of confusion.

It is therefore absolutely impossible to translate these words from one language into the other and vice versa. The original meaning of the word might be completely lost and could lead to a totally false reverse translation.
