The seventh issue of the More Code Newsletter just went out. Here’s a run down of some of the articles that were included in this issue:

• Redefining Hick’s Law ran on Smashing Magazine earlier this month. The law originally refers to the time it takes a person to make a decision based on a number of choices s/he has. This article takes the law and attempts to improve upon it in the context of web design.

• Is Ruby Interpreted or Compiled? is a good read especially for those of you that have an interest in programming languages. This results in this article surprised me.

• How GitHub Tamed Free Software is a look at the social coding, source control web site, how they got started and where they are now.

• It’s All About The Hashbangs is a blog post that explains why Twitter is doing away with the hashbag (that is, /!#/) in their URL.

• How Key-Based Caching Works is an article published by 37signals explaining the algorithm for their caching mechanism in the next version of Basecamp.

I just released an update to the free version of WP Social Icons. This particular update is the first in sometime and introduced a couple of new features:

It’s a small update, but it’s a relatively popular plugin and I try to keep it as well as it’s premium counterpart updated as frequently as possible.

The six issue of the More Code Newsletter just went out. Here’s a run down of some of the articles that were included in this issue:

• Learn jQuery in 30 Days is an article run by Envato targeting beginners who want to learn the jQuery Library. It’s a solid tutorial for those of you that’ve never touched jQuery – now is a better time than ever!

• A Field Guide To Web Apps is a neat interactive web-based “book” that walks you through knowing, designing, case studies for, and building great web apps.

• Passing Data to JavaScript is a new Railscast that shows how to send data from Rails to JavaScript. It’s easy to send it vice versa, so reviewing this is a helpful complement.

• Every Time You Call a Proprietary Features CSS3 a Kitten Dies is a long article on A List Apart as to why WebKit-specific or Mozilla-specific CSS3 features are not true CSS3. Long, but good read.

• Using JavaScript’s Prototype with MVC is a great article on Envato about how to think of the web experience as the MVC pattern. Personally loved this article.

For those of you that have been reading this site via web browser (rather than RSS) for sometime, you’ve probably seen the design under going changes for the past few weeks as I’ve been using this as a sandbox for some of the features.

The preview is available for Support Licesees, but I’m excited about this version of the product for a number of reasons.

We’ve completely rewritten the product from the ground up. Some of the notable features include:

• Adaptive layout built into the theme so that your site looks consistent across devices
• SEO guardrails that prevent you from selecting too many categories or drafting post titles that are too long
• Support for standard, status, image, link, quote, and video post formats all of which are uniquely styled
• Three different layout options and social network integration
• Activity Tabs widget that includes customizable display options for your recent posts, popular posts, comments, etc.

From a development standpoint, I’m particularly proud of this release because it includes the first iteration of the Standard Framework – a true framework designed and developed to make theme and plugin creation significantly easier. It interfaces with the native WordPress Settings API and abstracts the validation and security code so that users can focus on building streamlined administration pages.

We’ve also tightly integrated with WordPress. At this point, the WordPress Platform offers a number of features that go a long way in helping to customize the look and feel of your blog. Rather than re-invent the wheel, we’d rather build on top of it. Standard now consists of a healthy marriage between native and custom functionality – we’re playing up to our strengths just as much as we’re playing up to WordPress’ strengths.

Though we still have some significant development to do before launching final, we’ll be releasing several iterations of Preview to continue showcasing our progress. Excited!

• Colllor is a small web application that makes it easy to generate consistent color palettes for your sites and applications. Definitely useful for those of us who are design impaired.

• Status Code is a email newsletter for programmers that’s published by @PeterC of JavaScript Weekly and Ruby Weekly.

• Hogan.js is a JavaScript Templating Engine created by the development team at Twitter. It can be used to compile your assets and to manage dynamic templates. It plays well with Node.js, too.

• Stellar.js is a jQuery plugin for easily introducing Parallax effects in your project.

• Here’s a short, 6 minute intro video on iOS Development from the guys at Think Vitamin.

• Tinycon is a JavaScript library for adding notification bubbles to favicons in your web-based projects.

• Turn.js is a jQuery Plugin for introducing page turns into your web application. It weights in at 15k and leverages HTML5.

This past weekend, my team and I had a chance to hang out at WordCamp Atlanta. Overall, we had a great time – the meetup was especially fun as it was great to chat with a number of different bloggers, developers, designers, and teams that are all active in the WordPress Community.

Perhaps my favorite moment of the weekend was getting a chance to chat with Matt Mullenweg:

There’s a lot of amazing things happening in the WordPress Community right now and getting a chance to chat with the guy at the helm of the platform was an honor.

Of course, there are fewer resources this week. I’m okay with that, though. Time was spent better elsewhere :).

• SendGrid is a service that aims to help developers replace the overhead of managing email infrastructure for larger applications. Easy integration, flexible API, and analytics.

• psd.js is a JavaScript library that accepts a PSD file and can return out various pieces of information such as image size, layer information, color modes, etc.

• Devise, the authentication library for Rails, just released version 2.0. The update includes the introduction of reconfirmable, removal of database authentication, support for engines, and support for Rails 3.2.

• Beautiful Web Type is a showcase of the best Google Web Fonts.

• jQuery 1.7.2 Beta 1 was released.

• Bear CSS is a simple little web application that accepts an HTML document and returns a CSS template based on the ID’s, selectors, and elements in the provided HTML file.
