Futch, the defending state champion in the 300 hurdles and District One meet record setter last weekend in the 300 hurdles and 200-meter dash, was declared ineligible for the state meet after a pair of incidents on the Coatesville High School infield as he waited for his gold medals.

Futch set a state record at last year's state meet in beating Wilson's Kowan Scott in the 300 hurdles final. He also has the best national time in the 400 hurdles (51.77).

Futch will be on the track at 3 p.m. today in the preliminaries of the 300 hurdles.

Schaffer is the defending national champion in the pole vault. She is a five-time All-American and has the top qualifying height this season at 13 feet, 10 inches — which also is the top all-time height in women’s Division III history.

Schaffer looks to repeat at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Elsewhere, University of Tennessee senior Chanelle Price, an Easton product, competes in the 800-meter run at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds in Jacksonville, Fla., starting Thursday.

Price’s qualifying time of 2:03.15 is good for the second seed.

And, Bentley University senior Mike Vatti, another Easton High graduate, closed out his college career recently by finishing seventh in the 100 and 200, eighth as part of the 400 relay team and 12th in the 1,600 relay squad during the New England Intercollege Men’s Outdoor Track Championships.

Bentley’s time in the 400 relay was 42.65, the program’s best in a decade and third-best in history.

The foursome’s time of 3:21.55 in 1,600 relay was the sixth-best time in school annals.

West Chester University freshman pole vaulter Eric Hunter, a Northampton High School graduate, was named all-region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA).

Hunter is the first Golden Rams track athlete recognized regionally by the USTFCCCA in the three years that the coaches’ association has sponsored an all-region team.

“We had a few hiccups at the beginning of the season while we learned how to build on what [Hunter] had been doing during his personal training,” West Chester coach Mike Murawski said. “The weather during the outdoor season also made it difficult to develop any consistency.

“But, Eric is a gamer. He knows when to show up. His work ethic makes everybody in that event better. I could see him making a trip to nationals next season.”

Hunter placed second in the pole vault at the PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, after placing third in that event during the 2012 Indoor Championships in February.

Hunter cleared 15 feet, 3.5 inches at the PSAC Championships, which is the second-best mark in school history in that event outdoors.

The West Chester freshman was the PIAA Class 3A champion last season while at Northampton. He also set the Northampton County record in the pole vault by clearing 15-1 in the final regular-season meet of the 2011 season at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium. He won the state title by clearing 15 feet.

Also, Shippensburg junior Matt Gillette, a Parkland High product, is competing in the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships next weekend at Colorado State University in Pueblo, Colo.

Gillette posted a qualifying time of 3:46.66 at Bucknell’s Bison Outdoor Classic in April. Seeded right behind Shipp teammate Stephen Schelander (3:46.63), he is looked to repeat as an All-American after finishing seventh last season in the same event.

Gillette also previously earned two All-American honors as a member of the Raiders’ distance medley relay squad.

Liberty placed a league-best three players on the LVC first team, which was released this afternoon. Nazareth, Parkland and Central Catholic each had two first-team selections. That gave the four teams that qualified for the league playoffs nine of the 12 first-team selections.
