A Muhlenberg student will be featured in the New York auditions for "So You think You Can Dance," when the Fox reality dance competition returns for its ninth season at 8 p.m. Thursday May 24 on Fox.

According to the college, Emily Phillips, a theater and business major, auditioned for the show in January and will appear on the show Thursday.

Phillips, who is from Edison, N.J. and in the class of 2014 has appeared on Muhlenerberg's stage as both a dancer and actor. She was featured in both this and last years' "Master Choreographers" concerts, performing in the tap pieces choreographed by Shelley Oliver, as well as several Mainstage dance concerts ("Moving Stories" 2010, 2011; "Dance Emerge" 2011). She has also acted in the musicals "Merrily We Roll Along" as Meg Kinkaid and "The Pajama Game" as Virginia,.

"We're very proud of Emily!" says dance program director Karen Dearborn. "We know she'll be a great representative of Muhlenberg's Theatre & Dance Department, and we're rooting for her to go all the way to the finals."

On the show open auditions take place in several cities including New York. Dancers perform a brief routine before a panel of dance experts, headed by series creator and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe. If the dancer exhibited exceptional ability in their performance, judges award a "ticket to Vegas," moving them instantly one step forward in the competition. Alternatively, if judges are on the fence about the dancer, they ask the contestant to wait until the end of that day's auditions to participate in a short test of their ability to pick up professional choreography.

Berks County mom Kate Gosselin said Monday during an interview on NBC's "Today" that the family wants to return to reality TV and the kids miss the crew and the trips.

She told Ann Curry her eight kids "really, honestly miss filming."

She added since the family's contract with TLC is over, "we're hoping to move forward and do more fun projects."

She also reported she is planning to run a half marathon at the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon June 3, something she has been tweeting about.

She also said things have been peaceful with ex-husband Jon Gosselin.

Lehigh valley native Carson Kressley didn't win "Dancing With the Stars" when he competed last year but he was definitely a crowd favorite with his outrageous costumes and snappy asides.

Now the former star of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" is starring in a live revue at Las Vegas' Tropicana resort and fans can win a trip to Vegas to see Carson by entering a contest on the show's Facebook page. Carson is his usual over-the-top self in the new show in which he flies above the stage as demonstrated in this photo on his Facebook page..

The live spectacular runs through July 7 and features former DWTS contestants including Carson, for NSYNC member Joey Fatone, Disney Channel star Kyle Massey, Sabrina Bryan of The Cheetah Girls, actress Tia Carrere along with dance pros Dmitry Chaplin and Lacey Schwimmer. The stars will join the Las Vegas Troupe for the show, directed by Amy Tinkham and choreographed by Australian sensation Jason Gilkison.

Dancing with the Stars: Live in Las Vegas is an 80-minute extravaganza that brings the excitement of the ABC hit series to life. The Tropicana Theater is transformed into the Dancing with the Stars ballroom, showcasing fan favorite dances from past seasons along with new and thrilling routines.

Tickets for the show range from $40 to $144.

I thought the tattoos of Bethlehem tattoo artist Alexis Kovacs were the best but the judges didn't agree and London was named the winner of Oxygen's reality competition "Best Ink" Tuesday.

The episode titled "For the Love of Ink" had the final three Alexis, owner of the Electric Cheetah at 707. N. New St. in Bethlehem; Jon and London first learned there would be no flash challenge. Instead they would get to consult with an editor from "Tattoo" magazine.

The three artists handed over a portfolio of their work and the edito critiqued them. Rather ridiculously, the editor told Alexis she should have been better prepared for the consulation even thought the artists had simply been told to take everything off the walls and bring it without knowing what it was for.

For the final ink challenge, people each artist had already tattooed entered the room for another tattoo, this time of the artists choice.

"I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders when they told us we could design what we wanted for our Ink Challenge," Alexis says in her blog. "It was stressful to know that we had to do three tattoos and barely had time to get ready for them. It was also wonderful working with my previous skins. I had a connection to each person and I almost cried when they walked out. They were like a super supportive cheering squad."

Alexis did all three tattoos around the theme of light. Two included a lantern and the third a flame.

"My concept for my tattoos was that love is like a light and will always shine through the darkness," she  says. "I also put little mosquitoes in the tattoos, like they were being drawn to the light."

"When I was named the winner, I literally could not believe it," London says in his blog. "Entering the final challenge, I was extremely nervous. Jon and Alexis were my biggest competitors and they do fantastic tattoos every week, but it felt amazing knowing that I made it to the end."

Alexis says she was "not surprised" that London won.

"I actually really think I had a shot at it, but I think I knew he was going to win once Roman left," she says. "It seemed inevitable. Being a finalist gave me more than what I expected to achieve, and I felt like I won just by being in the top three. "

She says competing on the show really motivated her to get better and better.

"I have such a hardcore, new-found romance with tattooing again," she says. "This show made me really care about what I do. I always knew I was okay at tattooing, but to be a finalist showed me that I'm better than I think I am and I do know what I'm doing!"

The coaster is the only one from Pennsylvania so far to be featured as one of the competing coasters. Dorney Park is asking the Lehigh Valley to vote for the local coaster online.

Hydra will be be in the episode "Wrong Way Up" which features four coasters with multiple inversions. It is going head-to-head against  Kraken, at Sea World in Orlando, FL; Wild Eagle at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN and Vortex at Kings Island in Mason, OH. The episode will air 9 p.m. July 22 and at the end of the episode, viewers will learn which coaster won the online voting.

"With its unique features like the jojo roll coming out of the ride station before the lift and the 7 inversions at 53 mph, we think it is the best in the category," says spokesperson Carrie Basta,"But we will need the help of our Dorney Park fans and the Lehigh Valley to prove that!"

Hydra The Revenge which replaced the wooden coaster Hercules opened at the South Whitehall Township park in 2005. The coaster is floorless and distinctively twists riders upside down right outside the station. The 2 minutes, 35 second ride reaches speeds of 53 mph, has a 105-foot drop and turns riders upside down seven times.

Two New Jersey coasters are also included in other episodes in which other coasters compete.  Kingda Ka and El Toro  at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ will be featured on the "Extreme Heights" and "Splintering Speedsters" episodes.

The show premiering at 9 p.m. July 8 pits extreme roller coasters at parks across the country in six different categories against each other, and invites viewers to settle the battle by voting online. Each of the six weekly half-hour episodes features four coasters in each category. Viewers go online and vote for their favorites in each category.

On each episode, coaster experts will argue the advantages and weaknesses of each ride and the coaster with the most online votes will be revealedat the end of each episode.  A one-hour season finale will air at 9 p.m. Aug. 12  and will count down the ten coasters with the most votes.

Freedom grad Daniel Dae Kim promises the season finale of "Hawaii Five-0" at 10 p.m. Monday on CBS is "a real page turner," in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

In the episode entitled “Ua Hala” which is Hawaiian for “Death in the Family” there will be "shootouts, explosions, kidnappings and one of their own murdered in cold blood," according to a CBS press release.

“Our show is known for big stunts and dramatic turns and the finale is kind of that on steroids," Kim told Entertainment Weekly.

Kim also will be reunited with former "Lost" co-star Terry O’Quinn who returns as Joe White.

CBS says in the finale the team is "in hot pursuit of a shooter who guns down one of their own, while another team member is forced to choose which of their kidnapped loved ones will live."

It seems that Kate Gosselin's ship has sunk. A spokeswoman has confirmed that the celebrity Royal Caribbean cruise with the Berks County mother of 8 scheduled for Aug. 12-19 has been cancelled.

The cruise was cancelled because it didn't sell well enough and all those who booked the trip will get a 100 percent refund, the spokeswoman for for Alice Travel which arranged the trip said. She added that Kate was "very disappointed" and planned to contact all the people who had bought tickets personally.

The trip on Royal Carribean's swanky Allures of the Seas was supposed to feature a private welcome cocktail party, a morning brunch, a private BBQ, family games and a private farewell dinner with Kate, as well as a personalized, a  photo, a Q and A session  and a craft project with the former star of "Kate Plus 8."

Royal Caribbean said in a statement the Kate Gosselin cruise was created and sold exclusively by Alice Travel and not Royal Caribbean.

Alice Travel also is selling a cruise with Paula Deen and her family in January on its website which still lists the Kate Gosselin cruise but the link doesn't work.

All mention of the cruise is gone. And if you go to the new website created to promote the cruise at www.kategosselincruise.com, you now get a blank page. A search of Royal Caribbeans's web site also shows no mention of Kate Gosselin at all.

There was no mention of the cruise cancellation on Kate's twitter where she has been focused on the sextuplets eighth birthday today while on CouponCabin she concentrated on talking about Mother's Day.

The cruise was not cheap with prices are as high as $5,500 for a single person in a deluxe suite for the chance to rub elbows with Kate. Other suites for the seven-night cruise in the Western Caribbean ran $1,900 to $3,750 double occupancy and $3,000 to $5,500 single occupancy.

The competition on "Best Ink" is heating up with four artists remaining, one of them Alexis Kovacs, the  owner of the Electric Cheetah at 707. N. New St. in Bethlehem.

On Tuesday's episode Alexis and the other artists were taken to a music recording studio for the Flash Challenge, where pop-rock singer Porcelain Black told them that cover art for CDs is extremely important for musicians. The challenge was to create cover art for her new CD "Mannequin Factory" using "stripper couture" themes for Black who wrote the original song "Rock Angel" which will be featured in the upcoming movie "Rock of Ages."

Alexis' art of a mannequin wearing a gas mask was pretty cool but the judges preferred London's image of a mannequin head crying  blood tears and he won the challenge.

For the Ink Challenge, the artists were introduced to their skins, all of whom wanted a tribute tattoo to the King of Pop Michael Jackson. Adding to the pressure, the celebrity guest judge was Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson.

Once again London won with his more staright-forward portrait of Jackson holding a machine gun beating out Alexis' abstract ink-splashed tattoo of a dancing Michael. Going home was Charlie who did a tattoo showing only Michael's dancing feet.

The final three are London, Jon and Alexis.

London admitted he was edgy despite his wins because "Jon and Alexis are excellent artist."

He said he feels the "best artists are left in the competition."

With Tuesday's win, London is guaranteed to be in the final two, so next week the real competition will be between Alexis, who has won one ink challenge, and Jon, who has won two. Watch at 10 p.m. Tuesday on Oxygen.

Fans of both new show "Raising Hope" and iconic comedy "Mary Tyler Moore" will have the opportunity to see an actress who is featured in both in Bethlehem next week.

Cloris Leachman, best known for her role as Phyllis in the ground-breaking series "Mary Tyler Moore," is the guest speaker for the final Celebrity Luncheon Series of the season May 16 at Best Western Plus Lehigh Valley Hotel & Conference Center in Bethlehem.

The Emmy and Oscar-winning actress will speak at 10:45 a.m. at the series which benefits pediatric services provided by Sacred Heart Hospital’s Visiting Nurses and Hospice Program. Tickets are $75 and include lunch.

Leachman plays the role of “Maw Maw” on the Fox comedy "Raising Hope,"which also features Nazareth native Kate Micucci. She also appeared as a contestant on season seven of "Dancing With the Stars." She also was Grandma Ida on "Malcolm in the Middle," and had appeared in shows from The Twilight Zone to Lassie.  She has won a record-setting eight Primetime Emmy Awards - more than any other female performer- and one Daytime Emmy Award.She also won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the 1971 film "The Last Picture Show."

On film she also is known for her roles as Frau Blucher in Mel Brooks’ "Young Frankenstein," and the grandmother, Evelyn, in "Spanglish."  In 2009, Leachman was in Monroe County to shoot "The Fields" a thriller shot in Kunkletown

Tuesday's "Best Ink" went to the animals and that was just fine with Alexis Kovacs, the Bethlehem tattoo shop owner competing on the reality competition show.

For the Flash Challenge, the five remaining artists were first asked to create an animal-inspired boot. Alexis who owns her own tattoo shop Electric Cheetah at 707. N. New St. in Bethlehem was both excited and nervous.

"I don’t really have any experience in fashion design," Alexis wrote on her blog. 

She tried to replicate the pattern of a snake's skin on the boot but again struggled with the limited amount of time allotted.

Charlie won with her ocelot-inspired design.

For the Ink Challenge, the artists have to tattoo portraits of pets, and Alexis was excited.

"I love animals and am extremely comfortable tattooing portraits of them," Alexis said. "You can get very creative with animals to give them more personality."

Alexis is happy to get the only skin with a cat. The others get a snake, a turtle, a chihuahua and London ends up with pink poodle.

As she was working judge Joe Capobianco came over had some criticism.

"I was very confident with my tattoo design but I was aggravated when Joe told me I had to make the art look like it was connected to the cat," she said. "I second guessed my design and ended up attaching the arm to the cat."

After the artists were done, Alexis was pissed when the judges said the arm of the cat looked weird.

"I would not have made the tattoo that way if I hadn’t second guessed myself after speaking with Joe," she complained.

However despite that, she was named one of the top two. However it was Jon's chihuahua that won.

Charlie and Nicky were in the bottom two and ultimately the judges decided his tattoo of a snake wasn't good enough and he was sent packing.

"I truly was upset Nicky left," Alexis said. "I know it was his time and I did feel like his tattoo lacked but he was my stability."

Next week it's down to the final four.

Freedom High School grad Daniel Dae Kim, star of "Hawaii Five-O,' will throw out the first pitch at the Philadelphia Phillies game Monday. The game against the Mets will be aired at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

There seems to be a definite Phillies connection since Phillies outfielder Shane "The Flyin' Hawaiian" Victorino guest starred on an episode of CBS' "Hawaii Five-0" in February. And Kim joined Victorino on the links for his first Charity Golf Classic in Honolulu after which the Phillies tweeted this photo.

Kim has been on the East Coast, making appearances at the White House Correspondents Dinner April 28;  White House dinner with Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihiko Noda hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and appearing on "Live! WIth Kelly" in New York City May 1.

How C.F. Martin & Co. increased productivity by 40 percent without laying off any workers and still maintained the integrity of its iconic Martin Guitar was the focus of the segment on the Nazareth manufacturer on the final episode of the four part PBS series “America Revealed,” Wednesday.

Yul Kwon, the show's host and the winner of “Survivor: Cook Islands” went to Nazareth and the Lehigh Valley which he described as "once the cradle of industry and now at the heart of the rust belt."

Martin, he said is an example of a manufacturer who blossomed and built its brand - "to musicians as powerful a brand an Intel" - by staying true to its roots. At Martin, acoustic guitars are made by hand much the way they were when the company was founded in 1833.

He talked to Willard Silvius, a 46-year employee, who does guitar neck fitting, described as the "most delicate task" which sets the playability of the guitar.

Silvius told Kwon, tradition is what makes Martin guitars and working for the company the best.

Kwon talked about how Martin struggled 30 years ago and almost went bankrupt when it tried to stay competitive by expanding and outsourcing. He said the near disaster now drives a "relentless focus on tradition."

Fred Greene, factory manager, said the philosophy is "Stick to your knitting."

"We think we are the best in the world at making acoustic guitars," he said. "Why would you do anything else?"

He says the workers, most who are long-timers, are perfectionists at what they do. "We have OCD to the max," Greene quipped.

However Martin also has responded to competition from the many other companies that make guitars by machine, by adding machines that make the parts that are not crucial to how the guitars sound, and having the other parts crafted by hand effectively increasing productivity without sacrificing quality. And it shows. Martin guitars are favored by musicians worldwide from  Elvis Presley to the Beatles to John Mayer.

"The moment you play a guitar you can tell it's made by machine," Greene says.

Any worker whose job was replaced by machine was moved to another area. Martin does not lay off workers, Greene said.

"We tell workers our intention is to hire you for life," Greene added. "We're kind of like Hotel California."

The plan has worked and the company increased production without sacrificing a single worker.

I guess having eight kids means you have to become a fairly decent cook.

Berks County mom Kate Gosselin has been posting her recipes and tips for feeding her family on her blog Kateplusmy8, in a regular "Menu Monday" feature for some time but it seems she has bigger plans for her cooking prowess.

In the "Ask Kate" section of her blog, a fan asked her when she was going to release a cookbook and Kate's response sounded pretty definite.

"I hope REALLY soon!" Kate wrote. " I’m reconfiguring it, adding more unique “Kate recipes” and I hope to get it into your hands very soon!"

She added that "thousands" have been asking her to release a cookbook.

Meanwhile, hungry fans of the former stars of "Kate Plus 8" can check out some of her recipes at her blog. Recent entries include a slow cooker tortilla soup and a dish that belies her Berks County roots - pork and sauerkraut.

Freedom High School grad Daniel Dae Kim, star of "Hawaii Five-O,' has been making the rounds on the east coast, making appearances at a White House dinner with Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihiko Noda hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on April 30, attending the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday and appearing on "Live! WIth Kelly" this morning in New York City.

Kim talked with Kelly and guest cohost Pat Kiernan about the dinners, his sons and about "Hawaii Five-0's" two-part crossover event with "NCIS: Los Angeles," which concludes tonight at 9 p.m. on CBS.

"It's a laugh a minute," he joked.

In the crossover, investigators from "NCIS: Los Angeles," including star Chris O'Donnell, come to Hawaii to help the "Hawaii Five-O" team solve the crime.

A clip shows Kim chasing the bad guy.

"Run DDK, run!" exlaimed Kelly.

Said Kim, "I'm just trying to keep up with LL Cool J. I'm like a 12-year-old boy standing next to him."

Kim has become chums with Kelly since co-hosting with her in February when the show aired live from Hawaii, where he lives.

"Welcome home," Kelly said, as she greeted him.

They talked about the White House Correspondent's dinner, before which Kim asked fans in a tweet if he should wear a bow tie or a neck tie.

He picked a neck tie.

"The president is debating whether to kill a terrorist and I'm debating about whether to wear a bow or a neck tie," Kim said, self-deprecatingly.

Talking about the White House dinner with the Japanese prime minister, Kim remarked how he is fascinated about how politicians can put on a friendly public face "at the same time there's a Chinese dissident seeking asylum in the Chinese embassy." He was referring to Clinton, who is dealing with a crisis regarding blind dissident Chen Guangcheng, who sought refuge in the American embassy in Bejing. 

"It's a pretty fascinating study in human nature," he said.

Kim also talked a little about his two sons, one who is a tennis player and competing in a championship match this weekend. Kim said he was sad he would miss it.

"Your kids are spectacular," said Kelly. 

Nazareth guitar manufacurer C.F. Martin & Co. will be one of several USA-based businesses highlighted in the final episode of the four part PBS series “America Revealed,” airing at 10 p.m. Wednesday on PBS39.

In the episode titled “Made in America” Kwon explores how American industry creates, from a simple cardboard box to a sleek new car to a tiny silicon chip, and how supply and demand, manufacturing and assembly are interconnected.

Martin is used to illustrate how traditional manufacturing has survived at the company. Throughout its history, C. F. Martrin has adapted to changes in product design, distribution systems, and manufacturing methods. In spite of the changes, each Martin guitar still goes through more than 300 steps as it is assembled using traditional craftsmanship. The Martin Guitar, the best known acoustic guitar in the world, is a success story with the iconic guitars having been played by famous musicians from elvis Presley to the Beatles to John Mayer.

In the episode Kwon also looks at not-so-traditional types of manufacturing and visits companies that are changing the American auto industry, steelworkers who use scrap metal to reinvent the American steel industry and engineers who are re-imagining the microchip. He also visists a smal start-up company that is building personalized robots, machines that may one day reshape our homes and offices. He illustrates tha American manufacturing has undergone a massive revolution over the past 20 years, and has become the number-one manufacturing nation on the planet.

The video examines how Just Born employs 600 people year-round to make a primarily seasonal product. Of the 2 billion Peeps the company makes a year, 800 million are sold at Easter.

Nazareth native Kate Micucci is really on a roll! Monday she debuts as a voice actress in Disney XD's new animated series "Motorcity" and June 8 she performs in her comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates on Comedy Central's new standup series "The Half Hour."

The series which premieres with back-to-back episodes at 11 p.m. May 11, is filmed at Royale in Boston in front of a live audience, and showcases the hottest must-see breakout comedy talent.

The series will feature a half hour of irreverent, razor-sharp comedy from each performer. Garfunkel and Oates, made up of the 1998 Nazareth High grad and Riki Lindhome will perform at 11:30 June 8. Other comedians who will be featured in upcoming episodes includes Rory Scovel, Neal Brennan, Na'im Lynn, Joe Mande, David O'Doherty, Michael Palascak, Jesse Popp, Maronzio Vance, Nick Vatterott, Theo Von and Brendon Walsh.

Micucci, who was named one of the Top Ten Comics to Watch by Variety magazine in 2010,  and Lindhomemet at the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre in Los Angeles, and started working together to turn "Imaginary Larry",  a short film by Lindhome, who is from New York, into a musical.  The band gets their name from "two famous rock-and-roll second bananas", Art Garfunkel and John Oates.

The duo perform often explicit parody songs with Micucci on ukulele and Lindhome on guitar. They just released their third album “Slippery When Moist”  on their own label “No One Buys Records” in February,
