<itunes:summary>Long before the Giants, Niners and Warriors began filling local stadiums and arenas, San Francisco’s sporting spotlight was cast squarely on the boxing canvas. From the bare-fisted brawls of the Gold Rush days until recent prize fights, it was a man’s world all the way. About the only way a woman could get into the ring at all was to put on a skimpy bathing suit and parade about between rounds. But thanks to a handful of tough young ladies like Melissa McMorrow, boxing as a pastime for women is starting to fit like a hand in a glove. Take a look at what the life of a female boxer is like. Her story is sure to knock you out.Download Podcast Video</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>So we've all done reality TV. What’s next?

How about a virtual reality website that’s so realistic, you can earn a real-life six-figure salary? That'’s what Reuben Steiger has been preaching for three years now. Reuben gave up a lucrative real-world job to become Chief Evangelist at Linden Lab, creators of a 3-D virtual-world known as Second Life. Thanks in part to Reuben, Second Life now has nearly 1 million “"denizens"” throughout the world, producing a gross domestic product of about $150 million a year. But that wasn’'t enough for Reuben. His career took on a second life at Millions of Us, a Sausalito agency that helps companies harness the power of virtual landscapes. As virtual worlds become more and more real, will we learn to live without the real world? The answer is virtually just a click away.Download Podcast Video</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This week’s audio show takes us behind the scenes, OK behind the cab driver, into the head of Howard, one of Luxor Cab’s most articulate drivers. How did we get Howard to reveal the intimate details of cab driving? Well we put Laura, Jennifer and Shannon in the back seat – this got his attention.

Howard discusses the intricacies of his London Cab, cab driving finances, robberies “I can’t talk about that legally” and how to prepare for cab driving…. “Do bad in college.”

If you don't respect cab drivers now, you just may start. They have feelings too.

Stay tuned to MosaicSF ‘cause we’ve got an Inside the Cab part two with some of Howard’s associates.

This insightful two-part show will be a treat for all types of fans. From wide-eyed rookies to seasoned veterans, everyone is sure to learn something new. Or at least enjoy seeing all the points of interest in one fell swoop.

In this first video you’ll watch the Cardinals warming up on the field while Bryan, the main man inside the Giants organization, thoroughly inundates us with interesting facts and trivia. In fact, he was so entertaining, we may cast him as a co-host for future shows.Download Podcast Video</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In this video (or what we like to call a Podlet) Laura is headed back to school. Only this time she heads to the Circus Center in San Francisco to learn to fly like the pros in Cirque de Soleil and other international shows. The Mission of Circus Center, founded in 1984, is to inspire passion for circus arts through training, performance, and community outreach programs. The best part is anyone can sign up for a range of classes including Chinese acrobatics and the country's only professional clown training program, the Clown Conservatory, which is partially funded by the National Endowment for the Arts.

But, nooooo clowning for Laura. She went right to the rush of flying in the air (OK, she was strapped in a secure harness with a net below. A system she will also be bringing to our upcoming happy hour bar tours.)

It's a good thing Laura isn't afraid of height or making fun of her physical abilities (disabilities). Scott Cameron, trapeze instructor extraordinaire, gained her trust (kina important here) while coaching her to pull off the ultimate accomplishment for a beginner. She also chats with a few students in the class to hear why someone would do this for fun and why aerobatic artists spend their life training for the giant tent.

Go figure!

Tune in to hear the word from the most serious fans in SF: the guy that went to Barry’s high school; orange Mohawk hair dudes; a fan that has done the Giants since they arrived in SF; the Let’s Be Frank guys (nothing like an all natural tube-steak); the ladies all of the men at the stadium would like to meet and the majorly rankled fan who doesn’t like the new bus system. In his words….”It’s a pain in the ass system. Its crap, horse pucky and a royal pain in the putoey.” Yikes!

<itunes:summary>Orlando Cepeda, known to Giants fans as the Baby Bull, recently invited us to his Bay area home to give MosaicSF Interviewer Mike Mehan an exclusive Interview.

Some people thought that Orlando, who played for the Giants from 1958 to 1966, was more popular than his teammate Willie Mays. Why? Well just swing through these accomplishments:

Orlando won Rookie of the Year honors in 1958 when he belted 25 homers, led the NL with 38 doubles, knocked in 96 runs, and batted .312. As a sophomore, he upped his figures to 27 home runs, 105 RBI's, and a .317 average. His career included seven All-Star games, nine .300 seasons and eight seasons with 25 or more homers. Orlando was elected to the Hall of Fame In 1999.

Our wide-ranging interview covers Orlando’s thoughts on his MVP year, his return from a major knee injury, San Francisco as a baseball town, today’s kids and baseball, how hard baseball players work, Buddhism and his views on steroids and the drugs that players took in his time.

This is the first of our Giants Podcasts. Stay tuned as we offer up our take on opening day and an inside the park perspective (care of the Giants organization) in future shows.

<itunes:summary>We don’t know about you but when we get a hankering for real Mexican food we head over to the Mission District. It’s not just that the Mission has some serious choices when it comes to burritos, tortas, quesadillas and tacos (Pastor, Suadero, Longaniza, Cabeza, Asada, you know what we are talking about) – it just feels like you are eating in the right place.

The show marks our first foray into the Mission. Don’t worry, it is just the start with many more video and audio shows to come. We have a few hot spots on our list like Theater Rhinoceros, Tartine Bakery, Star Wash and a little partying at Esta Noche.

By the way, this show is all Laura all the time.

Laura’s first stop is a visit with the crew at Station 11 of the San Francisco Fire Department (Church and 26th street) where she does a burrito tasting with some real-men-burrito-tasting-experts. You know, the guys that are here to save us.

The taqueria contenders are some of the Mission’s favorite restaurants and taco stands: La Taqueria (25th & Mission), Taqueria Cancun (Valencia & Mission), Poncho Villa (16th & Valencia).

Of course since we are in a real live fire house the alarm goes off just as we are getting underway. You’ll just have to listen to hear about the fire and the award winning burrito (a unanimous decision!)

Next stop is a tour of a couple of the Mission’s favorite murals with expert Patricia Rose, artist and guide at Precita Eyes Tours. Rather than muck it all up, here is how Precita Eye describes themselves: Precita Eyes Mural Arts & Visitors Center, established in 1977 is a non-profit multipurpose community arts organization that has played an integral role in the city's cultural heritage and arts education. One of only three community mural centers in the United States, the organization sponsors and implements ongoing mural projects throughout the Bay Area and internationally.

The two murals we visit are “Leyenda Azteca” and “Indigenous Eyes: War or Peace”.

“Leyenda Azteca” © 2000 All Rights Reserved. Directed by Leia Maahs and Jaime Wynn. Created with the Precita Eyes Youth Mural Workshop. La Gallanita Carneceria, 24th and Harrison Sts., San Francsico, CA 94110.

“Indigenous Eyes: War or Peace” (Formerly ³Indigenous Beauty²) © 1991 World Rights Reserved, Directed by Susan Kelk Cervantes, assisted by Myra Fourwinds, Balmy Alley, San Francisco, CA. “Indigenous Beauty” ©1984

This fairly laid-back neighborhood is also the home to Clement Street and some of the city’s more personal approaches to retailing. For instance, this week Brian hangs out at his neighborhood’s Green Apple Books and discusses the history of the store with its owner Kevin Hunsanger. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill Barnes & Noble.

Brian’s next stop is the Toy Boat Dessert Café to hang with Jesse Fink, Toy Boat’s owner of over 20 years and Brooklyn transplant. The Toy Boat started as a dessert café, but morphed into deli with high end sipping chocolates and some serious cool toys.

And yes, folks…. Laura’s back and she shops in a couple of Asian stores on Clement looking for turtles for her turtle soup dinner. Afterwards, she scopes out the Richmond rock scene – yes there are clubs out there – with Rockit Room owner Marco and GM Joe who has worked at the place (it was once the Last day Saloon) for 20 years. And yes, he can still remember the old days!

This week we went out and talked with movers and shakers (OK, nuf!) in the world of earthquakes. No, you haven’t heard it all.

Brian went out and talked it up with David Burkhart, a professional trumpeter, teacher at the San Francisco Conservatory, employee of Anchor Steam Brewery, and author of "Earthquake Days: The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire in 3-D." Busy boy that David.Brian also hung out at the Exploratorium with Pamela Winfrey, the Exploratorium’s Senior Artist and curator of the Turing Tables exhibit. If you are looking for a deeper understanding of San Francisco earthquakes visit the Exploratorium's great Earthquake website.

Laura managed to get an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle’s Carl Nolte. Carl, a 25-year veteran of SF Chronicle, wrote “The San Francisco Century: A City Rises from the Ruins of the 1906 Earthquake and Fire.”And if you thought that Laura is now afraid to go out of her house, she did a few street interviews with people living on the rather soft underbelly of the Marina district. Hear if these folks are prepared.

<itunes:summary>Welcome back to North Beach. Nope, we're not done yet!

Come in and enjoy the rest of Brian’s tour with FootTour’s David Spark. And in case you might have thought that Laura ran out of people to talk with, well, you are so wrong.

In this episode, meet some of Laura’s older new friends, including Rebel, the oldest bartender working at the oldest bar in San Francisco – The Saloon. Rebel has been working there for over twenty years. Think she has seen some crazy stuff?

Brian walks a bit further down Columbus and will introduce you to one of the owners of Vesuvio Cafe, Janet Clyde, who has plenty of amazing stories to share with us on the background of her home away from home. We even find one of those famous San Francisco poets. Not a mirage, but the real thing.

So take a step with us back onto Columbus Avenue.

This show is 22 minutes long.

Check out our video of this wacky event. And special thanks to our friends at Laughing Squid for helping us pick up the right pillow style (OK, for turning us on to this feathered experience.) Where else could Laura and Brian pillow-down with one-thousand of their fellow San Franciscans?
This video is two and one-half minutes long and its our very first Podlet™!

<itunes:summary>OK, where to begin. Well, let’s begin at one of San Francisco’s most popular neighborhoods – North Beach.
North Beach is well-known for its restaurants and bars, molto Italian food, its perch on the edge of Chinatown, and, of course, colorful neon signs to advertise the strip clubs and sex shops. But there's an amazing history to this neighborhood...

So, when we settled on North Beach as the subject of our first show, we
knew immediately that we had to talk to David Spark. David's a card carrying member of the comedy scene and foot tour guide for - would you believe – FootTours.
David's tour is called "Nude, Lewd and Crude: The Rise of Strippers, Comedians and Beats in San Francisco's North Beach." That pretty much says it all. We've spared you the expense (and all the walking) to deliver the juicy details right into your ear.
Meanwhile, our San Francisco newbie, Laura, dove right into the seedy underbelly of North Beach at Big Al's, an adult bookstore that has a whole lot more than books. Even one thing that shocks Jim, the owner. Laura also chats with some locals on the streets of North Beach.
As you can only imagine, we have just scratched the surface of North Beach. So, stay tuned for our next episode where we continue our tour.
This show is 24 minutes long.

Everyone knows San Francisco is a world-class city, but there’s more to it than the well-known icons: the Golden Gate Bridge, the Transamerica Building, Alcatraz, the nearby wine country… all of the great Victorian homes and the stunning natural setting on the Pacific coast… all of this is fantastic, but it’s merely a backdrop to the diverse and multicultural and often downright wacky population. There’s no place else like it. Not on this planet, anyway.

Mosaic SF is our exploration of the people and the places that make San Francisco so irresistible that you can’t find a damn parking space.

This first Podcast is our quick 4-minute introduction to the show and its hosts.

Brian Malow. A standup comic who came to SF ten years ago, and hasn’t been able to find the exit. Brian performs locally at the Punchline and Cobb’s Comedy Club.

Brian’s co-host is the lovely Laura Quinn, quite the mover and shaker in the business world, and a real whirlwind of energy. Laura is a newcomer to San Francisco, so she’s anxious to see it all and meet absolutely everybody. And we believe she will. Try to keep up.

You can learn more about Brain and Laura in our Hosts section (look to your right.) You can even learn a bit more about how we got here by reading the Producers section.

Anyway, listen to the show! More weekly episodes are on their way. Explore the site – we’ll be posting pictures and video clips, and feel free to drop us an email anytime. We’d love to hear from you. Together, we’re going to explore the City and its people.Download Standard Podcast</itunes:summary>
