Hi!

I got very relieved after reading that other people have similar issues with Danes. I do not have the best self confidence and their superior attitudes sometimes make me vefy sad.

I have no idea what people in Copenhagen try to compensate with identical design items, but it seems that it is not allowed for one to be different in any way. If there is a Dane who could tell me why, I would appreciate it a lot.

Thanks for the post and previous comments and take care!

Hey Vilhelm,
nice.
But why are you so negative about religions? In my opinion they are (more or less) neccessary. Many people need something to hold on, something to explain the unexplainable. Even now, though science has found out alot of things and can tell you how thunder, lightning and tide happen, there are things that are beyong our reach.
And it is not true, that religion is the prime cause of death. Was WW II a religious war? how bout WW I? There surely are wars happening and have happened due of religous reasons, but it is not all.
As you said yourself(in point 1) it is mainly what the humans make out of it. The human being was always able to fight itself and only because of power. It might give the impression, that the war was about the religion, but in reality I think it was about the greedy kings/governments that want this or that, to gain power/money/whatever. They justify it(like your quote in point 10) by using religious means. Anyway, goerge bush is an idiot.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a top religious guy, wanting to damn you to hell with satan and 26 years of pain and suffering, if you don't buy your soul free of sins(the jolly good old catholics in the 16th century=P), but I hope you might realize, that you were a little too harsh. The purpose of religion being to kill innocent people?? Come On!

Well anyway, I answered to this post and thats what I wanted.
So anyway, see you around and I still ain't sure if I'll be able to pay the moot 2010... I'll have to check our international coordinators, if anything is planned.
Hope you have a great time in Spain. Or denmark? I lost track... sorry.
Anyway hear from you sooner or later!
Yours,
Jakob

Yeah it seems to be pretty common for Danes to have a superiority complex about themselves. If its not done the Danish way, then its no good at all. If you dare stray even a little bit away from the consensus you can expect a lot puzzled looks and intrusive comments from the locals. I find it can make for a very pressurized and stressful place to live. No one seems to mind their own business and are highly judgmental.

The thing is Im not so sure on what basis there is to believe in this superiority. The whole history is one of loss: from a vast kingdom reduced now to just a small country on the edge of Europe that no one really cares much about. Clearly whatever their ‘way’ is, its NOT working. Also, I think this superiorty complex is the root cause of what makes the immigration problem impossible to solve. Basically danes want immigrants and cheap labor to do the things they don’t want (nannies, cleaners, 7-11 workers etc), but then at the same time talk about equality and integration. You cant have it both ways.

I agree that generally the place is pretty boring: robot people all doing the exact same thing. Like its some big cookie-cutting machine churning out identical people, living in identical places, having identical things and thinking identical thoughts. If any cookie is slightly different its considered a defect.

And even though we don’t live their any longer, the force is so strong we feel it from across the oceans “You what?!!!! Bought a non-designer brand toilet brush! Shock horror outgrage. That’s NOT how its done!”

anyway that’s my moan over.

I think that he may make a lot of very small changes, or one very big one. He's already apparently trying to close gitmo, and that's good. He's trying to bring our troops home sooner than Bush's timeline called for, which I think is good. We have to end the war to start creating peace. He's picked an excellent cabinet and I think he will really do the US well. I do hope he proves everyone wrong/right depending on if they like him or not. (like him=right, dont=wrong, to clarify) I am just happy Bush is gone because there isn't much worse you can do...I'm sure Bush is a nice guy but I don't think he was ever fit to be president. I can't believe they elected him TWICE. Lawlz at voters right now, lol. I shouldn't be discussing politics, 'cause I am not very involved in what is going on but I'm glad Obama is president. I do think a lot of the votes came from his skin colour BUT

when you think about it, as long as you are a good speaker, when things go wrong you can at least spin it well and put people at ease and right now I think that's all that matters. I think if we believe change is coming, maybe we'll all help out with it by reducing energy usage, spending money wisely, donating more to schools or charities, etc, and not go "why should I, we're effed anyway."

You know?

Maybe I'm wrong.

Hi

Yes, been here two years and also consider myself outgoing but since moving here find myself becoming more inside myself. I find the whole place just boring with automated people with no sense of fun, adventure or desire for anything different. I really think Danes take some sort of hypnotherapy which tells them that DK is the best country in the world. I have lived in a lot of countires and none are perfect, but what I find hard about DK is this belief that they are better than everybody else and that DK is the best in the world - period! Danes have no interest in foreign food (just go into a supermarket - it is like east Germany pre 90s) and it is meat and potato's. You might find a section labled 'foreign' if your lucky. As for rude, well I will, and do confront people and for those of you who live in DK will agree, Danes HATE confrontation. I had a guy at work, walked up to the copier whilst I was using it, hit the pause button, copies his page and hit start.... I challenged him (in English) and asked if his mother never taught him manners as a child, the guy was in bits and kept saying that he did not realise he was being rude...maybe there is something deeper in that?!

Anyway, I am kinda stuck here but luckily travel so am able to escape. Poor missues (who is a Dane but lived outside for 14 years) hates it and finds it so restrictive and impersonal. Problem is kids, house which has gone down in value and an even worse economy in most other countries.

anyway, moan over!!!

Hi

Ejoyed your rant very much. I am an Irish expat and moved here 4 months ago with work. I had a bit of a rant about the danes last night with a couple of Australian Expats and another Irish Guy all who moved here just under 2 years ago. We were in a bar in Copenhagen and one of the girls stood up in order to take off her jacket. As she did so, a middle aged guy literally pulled the stool from under her so he could sit with his already seated friends. It was potentially the rudest thing I have ever seen, and i have been travelling around the Globe with work for almost 10 years. The rant started and continued throughout the night based on each of our experiences since we arrived in Denmark.
I must say I am slightly disappointed with how few locals I have talked to outside of the workplace. Inside the workplace also come to think of it. I am a really outgoing bloke and I think Danes are a very attractive well presented well preserved society. However it counts for nothing when you spent months trying to scratch beneath the surface of the society to learn more, and are told by other Expats not to bother.Beautiful country but its so true that its the people that make it.... I find myself homesick for the first and only time ever. I may be in Europe but I feel a million miles away. Cop on Denmark.you have everything going for you. I dont think you are remotely the happiest people on Earth. More like contented with your lot. And please ... If I hold the door for you, i wouldnt mind hearing a thank you. Please anyone else who feels the same lets continue this rant. It makes me feel a whole lot better to know Im not the only one with a bee in my Bonnet about my current hosts. Cheers.

I know it's a joke, but you would never be able to bring me to court.
This is a personal blog, it was never meant for profit, I pay all the minuscule costs myself; and I'm happy to do so, I write all this for myself, not for someone else.
If my life isn't boring enough, I won't apologise, that's only to my benefit.
I'm not a scout leader, I don't know how well I would do at that, I'm not good with children, so by now, I still jus thave fun scouting.
I'm not a tramp, this trip came to my mind, as I had nothing better to do, I just felt like travelling, and I had the money to do so, no less no more.

If you were commercial I could bring you to the court.

By the way. You write that you are a scout. I know some scouts. And most of them, just take care of halflings... I mean small scouts. Besides of making friends. Somewhere, somehow...
And how this adventures come to reality. Sweden? Africa? With Scouts? Maybe you mean a tramp. Are you a tramp Jen?
But form where do you take money for it if you don't have no advertisements on your blog, huh?

I am intrigued. I am going to check your blog at time to time.

Hi Jens!

Could you send me an e-mail, please? I seem to have lost your adress somehow.
ben.lommelen -at- student.kuleuven.be
There is a slight chance that I will be studying in Kopenhagen for about four or five months, and maybe you could help me out with some practical questions.
Anyway, we should get into contact again, I would love to hear some more of your stories about South-America. I recently spent seven months in Ecuador.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hej mus.
Største trafikulykke i Spanien siden 2001!

Hi Twaize
How was the inca trail?
It's very nice that you are still traveling, for me was just a short trip.
I've been reading your blog, it's a nice way to keep in touch with your people, your mother must love it!
I will write to you soon, and i am glad to see my face in some of your pictures. The post i really liked was the one you just wanted to say more about torres del paine, we just not realize all in the same moment we are living it.
Goog luck, and if you come to Brazil you have a home in Porto alegre, and good advices about the rest of Brazil.

Hej Jens.
Håber alt vel hos dig. Spændende at læse om alle dine oplevelser.
Fik adressen af Henrik. Vi vil følge dig fremover. Vi skal jo med på Skiferien i uge 9 og vi glæder os selv om det bare er en uge i F.
Hilsen Christian
