As always, selecting just one winner when there are so many great entries is one tough job. This month, we decided to stay with the old school theme, by selecting Anthony Jones of Rockville, MD and his 1971 Chevy Nova SS Clone!

My favorite part about writing these stories, is listening to all of the background information behind the vehicle builds and even the vehicles themselves. I also really enjoy the passion, pride and excitement that comes through something as simple as an email communication – it’s really something that’s hard not to enjoy, honestly. Anthony’s story is a perfect example of this!

Anthony purchased his vehicle 5 years ago, down in Virginia for a mere $800. All the car was at that point was a primered rolling body with rusted out quarter panels and trunk, it also had no engine or transmission. Knowing he had his work cut out for him, he enlisted the help of his father Elijah and his friend Zach, to help him as much as possible in his garage. The trio spent many days, nights and weekends wrenching on the car in order to get it to the point we see today.

When I asked how much time he thought they put into the build, the response was one that deserves to be in Anthony’s own words:

I honestly couldn’t tell you how many hours went in to building the car, but I’m almost sure the amount of money exceeded that, and more for my dad’s tools I broke in the process. The truth though, is that when dealing with old school cars – money doesn’t matter. To own and build a piece of history, is priceless.

There is that passion and pride I spoke about earlier, but it got even stronger when he told me about the cars inspiration.

Anthony wanted to share the experience of building up a classic car with his dad, which is why he jumped at the chance to purchase his Nova when he did. He tells us that he can tell it’s brought his Dad back to his youth, but is more than content watching his son follow in his footsteps.

The Details

Anthony’s car has quite a few modifications, a testament to how much work the trio has put into building up the classic. They installed a Chevy 350 small block, an Edelbrock 750 CFM Carburetor, TH350 transmission, a new rear geared at 410, high compression pistons, Mid Comp cams, a B&M shifter, 14″ Rally wheels up front and 15″ out back, a Pypes exhaust, Pypes Violator mufflers, and upgraded the headlights to the more modern 55 Watt Delta Quadbar Halogens.

His future plans include, a 406 SBC, Caltrac traction bars, Mickey Thompson ET strip radials and Weld Racing Prostar wheels.

He also tells us that his favorite Motorz episode is “How Tear Down a Chevy 350 v8 Small Block Engine” because it was very informative and easy to follow. When he rebuilt his 350, he only wished someone had put out a video like that at the time because it would have made the job that much easier!

This is always an exciting time of the year as we move out of the dark and dreary Winter months and sail into the beautiful Spring and Summer seasons. The great weather typically means that we pick up on those projects we couldn’t complete during the Winter or chose to wait until we could complete them outside in the sunshine!

As always, the Motorz shop has been very busy. We’ve had quite a lot going on since we last spoke and we’re as excited as ever to bring you the latest edition of our newsletter.

We recently debuted season 5 episode 6 which tells you everything you need to know about vehicle wraps. We also have a new Craftsman tool giveaway, our Ridez contest, a second round of our Viewers Choice Awards featuring wheel manufacturers, a handful of great tool posts on our blog, and more! We’re also feverishly working on more episodes, so stay tuned!
