End of the ski season March 18th 2012.

The season ended so quickly but we did manage to end it with a BANG! A lot of fun was had in the slush pit and the day could not have been better. +23 degrees and sunny…in the middle of March. A lot of very hard work was done by staff and volunteers in the past three days to build the slush pit and keep enough snow on the lift lines. Thank you to all who pitched in to help make this weekend happen.

We will be having our annual End of Season Shutdown Weekend on March 31 and April 1st (Saturday and Sunday) The chalet needs to be packed up for the summer, the kitchen needs to be cleaned and packed up and there is a lot of outside tasks that need doing. So please….. remember that Mount Evergreen is a community club and requires significant volunteer power to keep it going. March 16th at noon…Makin’ the Slush Pit!!

We have a small but energetic crew out to make the slush pit today. Should be done by 4 pm today.

After a quick inspection of the hill we are pleased to report that the lift lines still have lots of snow on them and apart from a few patches here and there the main hill, terrain park side and Pete’s Fancy are all in good shape given the weather. Once the pit is mostly done I will post some more pictures. Skyline and B-Slalom are done for the season but Pete’s Fancy is in amazing condition as it is well shaded.

This weekend is cooking up to be fantastic!!

New Hours for March 2012

Due to the rain Sunday night through Monday night we need to modify our hours.

We will not be open on Wed March 14th and Friday March 16th (day and night)

We will be open on Saturday March 17th and Sunday March 18th from 10-4. This will most likely be our final weekend. Sad but true… We are planning to have our slush pit on Sunday and it will be as big and fun as the past few years!!

All the deals will still be on so make sure you take advantage of our March Break Madness deal. See deals bellow.

March Break 2012 – Deals…Specials…Great Times!!

Hey…not everyone likes sand and warm weather right?! So if you are one of the lucky ones who gets to stay in the Great White North this March Break, Mount Evergreen has some deals for you!! And ya know…the weather is going to be spectacular so really…who is getting the better deal here!!

#1 – From March 9th until March 18th all rental equipment is only $13.50. That’s a savings of upto $9.50!!

#2 – On Friday March 16th we are open from 10 AM until 9PM. If you buy a lift pass for day skiing your pass also allows you to ski that night for free!! That a savings of $16.50!! And if you have rental equipment you can keep that for free as well!! Stay and enjoy our dinner special…and vote for what you think it should be on Facebook. “Mt.Evergreen Ski Area”

#3 – Your third lift pass is on us !! From March 9th until March 18th come and ski/board twice and the third time you come the lift pass is free!! Cards are at the main ski desk so make sure you ask for them and get them punched!!

Remember…” Mount Evergreen is community focused and volunteer driven” so make sure you come out and support your local “not for profit” ski hill. It’s all about our customers all the time!

Just to be clear…. we have received a lot of snow in the past week or so. More than 30cm of fresh stuff. So if you want to get in on the best skiing of the season get out to Kenora’s own Mount Evergreen. We have groomed and packed about 50% of the runs and left the other 50% for you powder hounds. YES….ACTUAL POWDER!!

The world is not ending in a Zombie attack but Kenora’s own Mount Evergreen Ski Club will be invaded this Saturday Feb 25th by young and old alike as they compete in a “slope style” competition. This competition was previously know as “Big Air…Little Air” but we wanted something a little more catchy.

The competition has 2 categories..one for more experienced riders and one for those new to the sports of skiing and snowboarding. The nice thing is everyone will leave with a prize of some sort. And those that finish near the top receive some really great prizes which are provided by the two sponsors which are The Hardwear Co. and Boardanyone.

Mount Evergreen is only 10 minutes from Downtown Kenora out the Airport Rd and spectators are encouraged. So if you are interested or you have youth who want to see some great tricks tossed down by some of the best Park Riders around then make sure you are at the hill by noon on Saturday.

Mount Evergreen’s chalet will be open and the kitchen will be cooking up a storm of traditional ski hill fare, as well as Audrey’s home made soups and lunch specials. Hot drinks are available as well but may be unnecessary as it looks like another great weekend weather wise.

Family Day…Monday Feb. 20th.

Mount Evergreen Ski Club is community focused and volunteer driven so of course we will be open for Family Day!!The chalet will be open at 8:30 for a pancake breakfast and a movie…… skiing from 10-4…… and the chalet will remain open until 5 for late pick-ups. ** Special** – all rental equipment is $13.50 for the day!!
Crosscountry ski gear also available for rent. Audry’s homemade soups will be hot and ready to eat. And of course the fresh cut fries.

The weather will be AMAZING!! So bring the family out to Mount Evergreen for a fun day they will never forget.

The first (kind of) Big Snowfall of the season….

Finally Mother Nature has given us a healthy dose of the good stuff. Natural snow that is. Overnight on Monday Jan 30th we received about 10 cm of snow which is by far the most all season. We had it packed and groomed across all runs by 4pm on Tuesday. The weather will be AMAZING this weekend so make sure you get out here to enjoy the warm temps and the new snow.

On Sunday Feb 5th we will be having some “just for fun” downhill races. Prizes are bragging rights…except for one main prize. Everyone 14 and older who enters the race has a chance to win 2 tickets to see Simple Plan, Marianas Trench, All Time Low at the MTS Centre Feb 16th.

Sign-up sheets and details will be in the main chalet on Saturday Feb 3rd. There will be 2 courses set-up. One for Jr. racers and one for Sr. racers. Races will begin around 1pm with the Jr. race first. Remember this is for fun so come out and try “bashin” some gates.

Banff Mountain Film Festival – World Tour

Mt. Evergreen and Kenora Nordic Trails Assoc. will once again host the Premier Mountain Film Festival. We will be back at Saint Thomas Aquinas HS with the large screen and the great sound system. If you have come in the past you know it is well worth the price of admission. Tickets are $18 in advance and $23 at the door. Get your tickets early as we usually sell out. Tickets are at Mount Evergreen Ski Club, The Hardwear Co. and Boardanyone.

The films are once again AMAZING in their quality and content. Fast action, interesting stories all in breathtaking locations.
