Fujinomiya Trail will be opened up to the 9th station at 0:00 AM of July 10.
Currently it's planned to be fully opened on July 15, although the date may change depending on the lingering snow.

Hi sesshy,
the easiest way from Tokyo to Subashiri Trail is
1) go to Shinjuku station,
2) take Odakyu-Hakone highway bus to Gotemba station,
3) take Tozan bus to the 5th station of Subashiri Trail.

The Odakyu-Hakone highway bus from Shinjuku station to Gotemba station is available every 30 minutes or so. Its fare is 1,630 yen for one-way and 2,900 yen for round trip.

I'm sorry for the confusion. Buying a ticket right before getting on a bus is OK.

I also found another Web site saying we actually don't even need to buy a ticket--in other words, we can pay by cash in the bus. However, a round-trip ticket can be purchased at a discount rate, so it's probably the best way.

Hi all,

I am looking to climb Mt. Fuji from late afternoon in time to see the sunrise at the summit, and I had a few questions:

-Is the summit open for climbing yet (or will it be by July 14th)?
-What is the easiest way to get to Subashiri Trail 5th Station from Asakusa?
-Can anyone who has gone the Subashiri route tell me if it is safe for young people climbing alone? I like the prospect of hiking through the forest rather than going via Kawaguchiko.

Tozan buses are operated like a regular bus in Japan--seats are taken on a first-come-first-served basis. The only difference is we have to buy tickets in advance.

Brilliant! Thanks heaps for that. I'm really looking forward to hiking up Mt Fuji after doing the Oxfam Trailwalker Challenge in May. If you love hiking and torturing your body I definitely recommend giving it a go!

When I take the bus to Fujinomiya is it necessary to book a seat in advance? And is there a phone number I can call Tozan on to make a reservation?

there's a bus from JR Shizuoka station to Mount Fuji's Fujinomiya Trail 5th station.
The 1st one leaves at 9:00 AM and arrives at 11:10 AM. The 2nd one leaves at 15:20 PM and arrives at 17:30 PM. Since there are only 2 buses a day, the bus company recommends to reserve a seat in advance.

I really wanna see the fuji view with snow. I'm going to the lake kawaguchi on August 11th. Is it possible to see any snow at fuji's summit from the lake? I know there was a first snow on August last year.
