DATCP Denies Sheriff’s Office Request for Walk-Through at Ridglan Farms

On April 14th, Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett submitted a written request to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), to accompany them on an unannounced walk-through at Ridglan Farm in the town of Blue Mounds. On April 15th, the Sheriff received a response from DATCP, denying that request.

Journalist with local roots is safe after being taken hostage in Iraq last week

Reporter Shelly Kittleson, who went to grade school in Mount Horeb, was taken hostage by an Iran-backed militia March 31 and set free on Tuesday of this week, according to the Associated Press and several other news outlets. Her mother received official word that she is safe late Tuesday.

It’s just after 7 o’clock on a chilly Friday morning and Stephanie, the waitress at Fink’s restaurant, is zipping from table to table, topping off cups with hot coffee. Steam and friendly chatter rise as food orders start coming out of the kitchen, French toast, bacon, eggs, hash browns and more sizzle on the kitchen’s griddle.

The March 25 Plan Commission meeting included three items, two of which were property reviews and the third was an initial discussion for a Public Art Ordinance. All members were present, except Jill Remmert-Willis. President Ryan Czyzewski introduced Jon Hochkammer, the interim Village Administrator, who took copious notes during the meeting.

Mount Horeb High School Band Revs up for 2026 Viking Band Show

The Viking Band Show has a long tradition in Mt. Horeb. With a nod to his past as a student leader of the UW Marching Band, now-retired Mt. Horeb educator Will Janssen created the event in 1997 as a way to feature the wide variety of songs and styles Mt. Horeb students perform throughout the year.

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office is releasing the name of the individual that died following an officer involved incident on March 15, 2026 in the Town of Springdale. The individual was identified as: Eric B. POTTINGER 44 Madison, WI Mr. Pottinger was pronounced deceased at a local hospital on March 15, 2026.
