The Golden Collective is going to be setting up shop tomorrow afternoon, May 19th, at DEMA for the Valencia Corridor Sidewalk Sale. This is an excellent, one day only event for supporting many of the creative and small businesses that will be celebrating San Francisco's Small Business Week. There will be art openings, live music, snacks & more, so it's sure to be a fun time. Stop by and say hello, if you're so inclined!

SPRING SIMPLICITY

I feel like a simple sundress is a staple for every girl's closet. I picked up this plaid printed gem at the Vintage Fashion Expo a couple of months ago and have been longing to wear it since. With the glorious Spring weather we've been having in the Bay, I now don't want to take it off. Lately, I've been enjoying my morning coffee in the garden, soaking in the sun and taking lots of afternoon strolls to admire all of the amazing wildflowers popping up here & there. I'm fascinated by flora and fauna in general and, being my first real Spring in California, I'm seeing all kinds of new flowers, blossoms, and critters scurrying about (i.e. funny, little lizards, giant eared jack rabbits, etc). Right after these photos were taken, I was so moved by the mustard blooms, I put one in my mouth and ate it right up. Delicious!

IT'S A WASH

Have you ever had one of those days where everything breaks and nothing happens the way you think it's supposed to? That was my yesterday. After surviving a broken sewing machine needle, followed by issues with my studio lights and a broken camera remote, I decided to call the day a wash, stop working, throw on a sassy and weather inappropriate outfit and just enjoy myself over a couple of negroni cocktails and a delicious dinner at one of my favorite San Francisco restaurants, Serpentine. Learning that you can't change everything and that you have to accept life's little mishaps as opportunities rather than catastrophes has been something I've been working on lately. I still have far to go, but I suspect I always will and kind of hope it remains that way so I can continue to live and learn through this life.

FLEUR DE MAY

Since resolving to not buy myself any new clothing this year, I've been thinking of ways to keep my closet interesting and not becoming truly bored with everything I have. I'm a minimalist to a fault and all of my clothes can actually fit on a single garment rack. Since I run a vintage business, I do wear a few pieces here and there before selling them, but I'm not really one to hold on to a lot of stuff. I like keeping things simple and it gives me peace of mind to know that I'm not irresponsibly consuming.

When Lily of Love Charles Vintage asked me to participate in a clothing swap that she organized, I jumped at the chance. Other peoples' clothes are always interesting to me and I knew this would be a great way for me to have a few pieces for a short period of time. I've participated in swaps before and have always had fun with the idea that I get to borrow someone else's' clothes and pass them onto someone else to give their personal, creative styling touch. This pretty, floral print skirt seemed like the perfect item included in the swap to start things off for myself. Spring is definitely in the air and that means floral prints abound for me!

BRUNCH WITH BIRDS

I typically don't like to get too personal here on the blog. I'm not really one to air my dirty laundry on the internet, but I just have to say it -- for the past 2 months I've been feeling under a lot of pressure and pretty stressed out about some things. I began to notice last week that I was becoming so consumed with my work and future goals that I was isolating myself from a lot of little things that bring me joy -- early morning runs, making art, yoga, cooking for myself and spending quality time with my friends. I mentioned earlier this week that this past weekend was about making some transformations. Putting on a pretty dress that makes me feel good and enjoying a simple and delicious brunch with Jen & Annalise helped bring to light that I was not stepping back and taking the time to appreciate the little things and a life that is, in the grand scheme of things, pretty darn good. I firmly believe that it's very important to surround yourself with positive people and to recognize those who truly have your best interest at heart, as opposed to those who simply don't and take advantage of your generosity and/or positive spirit, so that you can truly maintain a healthy life and exude happiness into the world for others to share. In a lot of ways, you really are who you surround yourself by, just as much as you are your own thoughts. While I didn't really dig deep and discuss the intimate details of my life over my veggie scramble on Sunday morning, I did come to the realization that I am truly fortunate to have friends that inspire me to be the best person I can. So, here's to all the friends in my life that have encouraged me, helped me grow and allowed me to simply be myself and let that be enough. I'm excited to pay it forward and bring this much simple joy into the hearts of others!

TRANSFORMATIVE

This weekend was all about sunshine & transformations. For one glorious day, it felt like Summer in the Bay, so I took advantage of the weather and was finally able to wear this amazing top from Fancy Fine without having to cover its loveliness with a jacket or sweater. The cool breeze and the fog blew back into town on Sunday, so after a yummy brunch with my Hummingbird Girls, I spent the remaining part of the day lounging at home, reading and spending some quality time with myself. It was much needed, as I woke up yesterday filled with peace and ready to take on a new week. You see, I've been feeling kind of stuck lately, as though I've been spinning my wheels a bit, doing the same things and expecting different results. Sometimes it just takes something as simple as being with and loving yourself to put things back into perspective. I suspect some much needed and positive changes are now in the mix. At least, it feels this way. I'm more than ready.

GOLDEN DELIGHT

Yesterday brought another Golden Collective sale. I typically dress more on the casual side for these monthly soirees, but decided to fancy it up a bit this time around. While my fashionable cohorts are braver than I when it comes to footware, often donning spectacular heels, I still opted for my trusty loafers, making hours of standing easier on me. The sale itself was quite a success and the day was sunny & pretty. If you're in the Bay and you missed it this time around, we'll be back next month!

Just a simple, San Francisco Spring outfit, which means wearing two pairs of tights to keep my gams warm from the wind. I'm still learning how to dress for Bay area weather, having come from a climate that's mostly hot with a couple of cold months thrown in. I'm not complaining, though. This happened to be the perfect outfit for a day of riding my beautiful new bike around the city and meeting up with girlfriends in the evening for a night at the movies. I'm happy to say, I am longer a car driver and will be only riding my bike and taking public transit from here on out. I very much feel like wearing/selling vintage and second hand clothes is helpful to the environment, so I'm thrilled to be taking another step in a direction that does not leave behind a carbon footprint.
