This is an absolute peach of a track lifted straight from Glasgow dj Al Kent's monster 'Disco Demands' compilation, out now on BBE. Al Kent has re-edited it along with virtually all the tracks on what is a wondrous journey of discovery through the unknown Disco Halls of yesteryear. It's 5 CDs long for christ's sake!!

If you could hand-pick any given modern muso to create a Prince mix then DāM-FunK would be top of the list. His credentials suit the task in hand, the man from LA is widely known as the 'Ambassador of Boogie Funk' and surely Prince is the founder(?). The Siren was something of a dark wave classic before Playhouse's Losoul got his dirty disco fingers into it. Extended to seven minutes and EQ tweaked to perfection, this is a perfect example of a cold wave edit released several years before cold wave or edits were in vogue.

'I Zimbra' is one of our favourite Talking Heads tracks, though there's very few duds. Here's David Byrne's live version recorded at Sony's West 54th Street studios in New York on 13th October 1998. It's worth checking the rest of the set on Youtube for more of his incredible performance.

Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston are taking the sounds of their sub-120bmp club night 'A Love From Outer Space' on the road with some exhilarating results. Thankfully someone always seems to be on hand to record them and share them with the rest of the world - in this case the good people of Bristol's 'Dirtytalk'.

This record was released last year as part of the jaw-dropping 'Let's Get Lost' series of edits. Thomas Bullock, of Rub 'N' Tug and Map of Africa, takes Olivia Newton John's disco rework of Dolly Parton's country classic and adds just enough muscle to power dancefloors in the 21st century. Lovely rock-orientated disco.

The flip is a version of ZZ Tops's 'I Wanna Drive You Home' which is also worthy of a listen.

Bleep techno pioneers Sweet Exorcist were Richard H Kirk, of Cabaret Voltaire fame, and Richard Barratt. Their 'Clonks Coming' LP was the first album release on seminal electronic label Warp. 'Testtwo' is taken from the AA-side of their 1990 single 'Testone'.

Factory Record's oft overlooked Benelux division wasn't so much a distribution channel as a label in it's own right often releasing tracks that Factory itself weren't privy to.

These were mostly from lesser known bands, such as The Names, but New Order were also in on the act releasing this wonderful, extended version of 'Everything's Gone Green' through Benelux alone.

It's a beautiful, beautiful track - glacial vocals riding on a techno rhythm and building towards the stabbing finale that just loops over and over and over and over.

The mighty Joe Gibbs was one of the most influential producers in Jamaica around the 70s and 80s. Gibbs worked consistently with his sound engineer Errol Thompson and the two became know as the 'The Mighty Two' releasing multiple chart busting tracks. Organs of Love are Glasgow duo James McKinven (organs, love) and Alicia Matthews (vocals, love). Having served time in a string of Glasgow bands, such as the legendary One Dove, they're now focussing their energies on Scotland's 'must-see' band - Organs of Love.

Released through the ever-reliable Optimo Music, the 'Bone EP' features four tracks of scuzzy electro sleaze that sound like Suicide being put through a blender with Mazzy Star.

This track is called 'Facefuck'. I think that says enough.

New York's Nu Groove records released a string of classic house tracks between 1988 and 1992. Constantly crossing genres their output ranged from techno breakbeats to deep disco loops and their releases included such figures as Frankie Bones, Joey Beltram, Kenny Dope and Bobby Konders. Here's the blurb on the mix taken from the Soundcloud page:

'Recording under different aliases, the Burrell Brothers were the backbone of Nu Groove Records. This New York label started in 1987 and took inspiration from Trax Records, both musically and aesthetically. This compilation compiles the absolute best of the Burrell's output and in doing so is giving us a valuable insight to the much overlooked roots of New York house music.'

As if 2012 wasn't starting with enough good music, we've just had this baby drop into the inbox.

'Brazil' was the highlight of Luke Abbot's 'Holkham Drones' album with James Holden describing it as "one of the most joyously utopian records ever made". So what do you do when you have a bona-fide classic on your hands? Slow it down of course! The spasm-inducing 165 BPM speed has now been dropped to a dancefloor friendly 128 BPM so there's no more speeding up the track your playing to mix it in. Unless you play gabba. In which case you were fine.

As if that wasn't enough, the good people at Border Community have also thrown in remixes by Gold Panda and, a particular favourite, Etienne Jaumet - which find the Zombie Zombie man in fine fettle slowing the track even further and adding his John Carpenter sounds to tremendously spooky effect.

Possibly our favourite dj of all time is set to release a compilation of New Beat/EBM/Post Punk through Tirk records in February. Featuring classics by 400 Blows, Neon, Pete Shelley, Cabaret Voltaire and Severed Heads as well as exclusive edits and some wonderfully obscure remixes (plus artwork by Jackson himself!) it's a impressive selection that anyone familiar with his dj sets will be well acquainted with.

Credit to the Fixed crew. After 7 years of throwing some of New York's most epic parties they celebrated with residents JDH and Dave P on the decks all night long. Their blend of pop/techno/dfa/disco is just perfect for dancefloors so it's great to have all that energy locked down in a mix. It's 5 HOURS LONG so you'll need to allocate some time but it's a worthwhile listen.

No tracklist but please contribute either on here or the soundcloud page.

There's no point in us trying to start 2012 with an predictions for the year ahead - let's be honest this blog is more about rediscovering the old then clutching the coat tails of the new.

However, every now and again records do crop up that really knock us for six, such as last year's remix of Ronny and Renzo by none other than Carl Craig in his C2 guise. Throbbing hypnotic beats that would have been perfect for the Boccaccio dancefloor. More please!
