I had many sleepless nights because of Friday the 13th, and I hope the new generation has the same experience in Camp Crystal Lake.

26- Red Sonja (End of 2009)
Director Robert Rodriguez (Planet Terror and Sin City) re-teams with Rose McGowan (Grindhouse). I do not think it will be good film but anything connected to Conan get me excited.

25- Fast & Furious (June)
Paul Walker and Vin Diesel are back, I loved the first film and I’m happy that they are back to the original story.

24- Them
I still do not have a lot of information about the film, but the directed is Edgar Wright (Sean of the Dead and Hot Fuzz’s). I like him and so far he made two great films, and I loved the fake trailer in Grindhouse.

23- Ninja Assassin (no release date announced)
No stars bad director. It will be bad film, but I love Ninjas.

22- Planet 51 (November)
Alien lands in a simple small-town community, but this time we are the aliens and the small town folk are little green men.

21- Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (January)
I love Underworld films and I hope this one will be as good as the old ones.

20- G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra (August)
I’m not a big fan of G.I. Joe, but it looks like a good film.

19- Sherlock Holmes (November)
Madonna free Guy Ritchie is the director and Robert Downey will be Holmes. This is the combination of good film.

18- Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (July)
John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, and Denis Leary are back for the third installment. I love this series and this film should be good.

17- Nottingham (November)
Ridley Scott is one of the best directors and Russell Crowe will be Robin Hood and Sheriff of Nottingham. There is problem with the production and the film will be delayed to 2010

16- 2012 (July)
Roland Emmerich (The Day after Tomorrow, Godzilla, Independence Day) assembles an impressive cast including John Cusack, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson and Danny Glover for an apocalyptic epic based on a 7th Century Mayan prophecy

15- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (January)
Fight Club David Finch is the director. The story is that Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) is born in his eighties and ages backwards

14- The Lovely Bones (DEC)
The only reason I have film is in the list is that Peter Jackson’s is the director.

13- Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (June)
Michael Bay, Shia LeBoef and Megan Fox. There will be more action, more laughs, and more shape-shifting robots in this film and my favorite Soundwave will be in this film.
Did I mention that Megan Fox will be in this film.

12- The Taking of Pelham 123 (August)
Director is Tony Scott (Man on Fire, Top Gun) and have full of stars (Denzel Washington, John Travolta, and James Gandolfini). I love the original film and this one should be great.

11-Monsters vs. Aliens (April)
Just see the trailer and you will love it.

10-UP (May)
The only information that I have about this film is that there is an old man and he have flaying house. Pixar made it and I love all there work.

9-Shutter Island (February)
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are back with novelist Dennis Lehane’s (Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone) help. It should be one of the best 2009 film.

8-Inglourious Basterds (June)
Quentin Tarantino, Brad Pitt, Mike Myers and star of Hitcock’s The Birds Rod Taylor. I love Tarantino and I love his films, now there are Nazis in the film and that will make is even better. The film is set in World War 2, with a team of Jewish-American special forces operating behind German lines, there mission is to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by brutally killing Nazis.

7-X-Men Origins: Wolverine (May)
Hugh Jackman’s back for an X-Men prequel set 17 years before the action of the first movie.The film traces the early career of Logan, the indestructible mutant who will one day be X-Man Wolverine

6-Public Enemies (July)
Michael Mann (The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, and Miami Vice) is the director. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale (where he have the time to make all these movies). The story is set during a booming crime wave in the 1930s and FBI trying to take down the gangsters.

5-Watchmen (March)
Watchmen is the best comic book every made, but it will be different ending.

4-Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (July)
I’m not Harry Potter fan, but I like the first 5 films.

3-Terminator Salvation (June)
Every day I get more excited about this film and each trailer makes me more excited. The only problem is that McG (Charlie’s Angels) is the director.

2-Avatar (December)
After very long time James Cameron is back. It is 3-D sci-fi adventure, and it took 10 years to develop this film.

1-Star Trek (May)
I’m a Trekkie. Live Long and prosper.

The Golden Globe nominations is precursor to the Oscars and yesterday the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards nomination where announced. This year there are three films with five nominations: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt, and Frost/Nixon, which it is not a surprise, but what is a surprise, is that there in no Dark Knight nomination. The only nomination it got is Heath Ledger for SUPPORTING ACTOR.

Hello dear readers its been a while since I wrote anything in here, Fahad was in charge for all those good posts, but life was kicking me in the ass and its still hurts, and I decided, the hell with it, let me write something.

Ok so I went the see Quantum of Solace for the second time, giving it another chance and to be sure I didn’t miss anything. Like what Fahad said, the movie is full of good action among other things, but lets take it one at a time. There something familiar about the rooftops chase, the mountain motorbike, the apartment fight, and the “camera following the fall” shot, there all a copy of the original bourne ultimatum. Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to take anything from Daniel Craig, I think he is a superb James Bond, nevertheless, I couldn’t help not to compare.

I loved the car chase, dynamic, fast, and gives a great rush, I worked hard to hide my pain seeing my beloved Aston Martin being trashed.

But still, my biggest problem with QoS is that there weren’t any good life, no exotic places that make you wanna pick up your bag and travel. Unlike Montenegro and Venice in Casino Royal, we got desert and sand, and a hotel in the middle of no where!

One last thing, What happen to “the name is Bond…James Bond”? but still it’s a James Bond movie and you gotta love it.

Quantum of Solace estimated $70.4M this weekend exceeding industry expectations. Solace also ranks as the fourth biggest opener of 2008 and the fifth best November bow ever.
Overseas, Craig and company raked in another $56.1M on 10,460 screens in the third weekend of international play to boost that tally to $252M putting the worldwide cume at an eye-popping $322M. Look for the $400M barrier to crumble as soon as next weekend as Quantum eventually makes its way past Casino Royale to set a new high for the lucrative franchise, especially with major markets like Japan and Australia still to open

I did like the film, but it didn’t feel like a Bond film. When it comes down to it, this film was not a satisfying conclusion to Casino Royale, but rather an excellent set up to the third chapter in an amazing trilogy. I believer the quality of the third chapter will determine how QoS is remembered. If it knocks it out of the park and delivers an unbelievable finale, then QoS will be considered The Two Towers of the Daniel Craig trilogy, an action packed second chapter in a phenomenal trilogy. If the third film sucks, the Quantum of Solace will be the Matrix Reloaded, the action packed second chapter in a trilogy that started out promising and declined with each iteration.

Will Smith will reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, and Francis Lawrence will returning to direct. The script is being written by D.B. Weiss (an up-and-coming writer with a few other scripts in the works around Hollywood). The prequel, which is based on a detailed outline developed over the past few months by Smith and Lawrence, will chronicle the final days of humanity in New York City before a man-made virus caused a plague that left Robert Neville the lone survivor among a mutated mob in the city.

Normally I do not talk about rumors, but they such a big rumors, that I couldn’t go without posting it:
The first one is that Will Smith is Captain America. They offered Will Smith to be Captain America in The First Avenger: Captain America film which it will hit theaters on May 6th, 2011. until now no replay from Will.
The second big Rumor is that Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.

Inside Man 2

Spike Lee confirmed that Inside Man 2 is moving forward at Universal. Terry George (of Hotel Rwanda and Reservation Road) is in negotiations to write the screenplay with Spike Lee planning to return as director as well. The sequel will pick up with the same characters and dynamic but not the same storyline

Spider-Man 4

Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire will be returning to Spider-Man 4 (2011). The deal apparently came together recently, because Finke says that a few weeks ago “Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal was openly discussing Tobey’s potential replacements.” Finke also adds that “the studio is trying to figure out if it can feasibly shoot Spider-Man 4 and 5 at the same time

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be Live-Action

It’s been confirmed, by TMNT creator Kevin Eastman. He writes that “it is true” and that Imagi is trying to do a “re-invention” or reboot rather than a sequel.

Worst Film

1-The Happening:M. Night Shyamalan did it once again. What a waste of time. Bad story and very bad performances. Last when we finally get to the twist @WTF@.
2-The Love Guru: Unfunny return for Mike Myers. The only good thing about the film is Jessica Alba’s “fun to look at”, but the rest of the movie certainly isn’t.
3-The – X Files: I waited for 6 years for this?
4-You Don’t Mess With The Zohan: This movie just a waste of time. Not funny at all.
5-Speed Racer: The only good thing about this film is the special effects.

The Best film

5- Kung Fu Panda: When I was watching this I felt the same type of refreshing feeling I did when I saw first Shrek installment years ago. It’s witty, smart and actually utilizes its voice cast more than just to gather a bunch of stars and see if you can guess who it is.
4- Tropic Thunder: Ben Stiller is the writer, Director, and producer, but the funny thing is, he is the weakest part of the film. Robert Downey Jr., in an even better turn than Iron Man, Knocked Up’s Jay Burachel and Brandon T. Jackson anchor the movie’s funniest parts. The fake trailers alone at the beginning of the movie are priceless.
3- Iron Man: Downey Jr., he IS Tony Stark. He nails the role down, and the ending cliffhanger is actually worth sitting through the credits for.
2- The Dark Knight: What can I say, the movie’s made nearly $500 million at the box office, and If you haven’t seen it yet, go. And if you have, see it again.
1- Wall-E: What? The Dark Knight isn’t my number one film of the summer? Will, the only reason that I gave Wall-E number one is that the fact that it goes thirty minutes without a hint of dialogue and still Beautiful, funny, and entertains is mesmerizing and something that will withstand the test time. It is a piece of artistry. In other words, it is a classic.

The Dark Knight grossed an estimated $26M in its fourth weekend to boost the 24-day total to an unbelievable $441.5M, the superhero sequel shot up to number three on the list of all-time domestic blockbusters and sits behind only Titanic which grossed $600.8M during one theatrical run across 1997 and 1998, and Star Wars which took in $461M from multiple releases over different decades.

The Dark Knight is damned good movie, and the best this year, but this is a list of things that I did not like, If you did not see the film stop reading this blog big spoiler is coming.

– 2 hours, 32 minutes. Now, the film didn’t feel that long while watching it and it didn’t really drag at all, but the length did affect some of the “wow” feeling.
– Two-Face Dies. Now this is a comic movie and it’s possible he’s alive and will be back, but I’m not sure if I like the habit of killing off the villains at the end of the Bat movies. Batman isn’t supposed to be a killer and yet in the past two films he’s definitely helped along their deaths, whether by tackling them over a ledge or just refusing to rescue them.
– Christian Bale’s Batman voice. WTF is sounds like cookie monster.
– Gordon “Dies.” I should have known something was up when we didn’t see much of the actual ‘death’ but I was legitimately pissed at the movie at that point. If not for his resurrection, I would hate this film. I was totally convinced the mysterious driver was a bad guy right until the end of the chase. I love Gordon and I love Gary Oldman.
– cell phone gps or bat sonar city wide cell phone thing. I’m not sure I need to say more but I found this really lame, and it started to have problems it blinded Batman, what theres no off switch?
– The Rachel Dawes character wasn’t good or interesting and I’m kinda glad she died
– Last I do not know if I like or dislike that Gotham is now Chicago not Manhattan

Justice League was slated to start production earlier this year in Australia, but in April, Warner Brothers shut down the project until further notice, but it is back on track. Warner Brothers’ adaptation of Justice League with Happy Feet’s George Miller directing will apparently gear up again and start shooting sometime next year.

I Am Legend Director Francis Lawrence Talks Prequel

Director Francis Lawrence revealed at Comic-Con this past weekend that he is, in fact, thinking seriously on a prequel to the Will Smith vehicle that collected nearly $580 million worldwide.

Vampires and Zombies Last Blood Comic Being Adapted
production company Benderspink announces that they’re adapting the horror comic Last Blood into a feature film. “Family Guy” executive producer and show regular David A. Goodman has been hired to write the screenplay. The comic, created by Bobby Crosby and Chris Crosby, follows the human survivors of a zombie massacre who find themselves protected by a band of vampires who need their blood to survive. No details on who is expected to direct or even what studio this will end up at yet

Sam Raimi Considering Making Evil Dead 4

Sam Raimi mentioned that he would love to make another Evil Dead movie! The unofficial title would be Evil Dead 4, since Army of Darkness is the sequel to Evil Dead II, and Raimi mentions that he’s going to work on the script with his brother Ivan Raimi starting next week. If you’re concerned that this would cause Raimi to skip out on Spider-Man 4, or he would not direct that fourth movie.

Terminator Salvation Rated R

The Director apparently convinced the Warner Brothers execs to let them shoot it how they want and thus it could end up being rated R in the end! Additionally, he hinted that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 model Terminator might make an appearance

More records were smashed into bits by the unstoppable megahit The Dark Knight which grossed an estimated $75.6M and cumulative $314.2M after only ten days, the Warner Bros. release shattered the $300M mark in record time. The old record was held by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest which banked $258.4M of loot over its first ten days and crossed the triple-century mark in 16 days.

The new Batman film also set a new record for the largest second weekend gross outdistancing the $72.2M that Shrek 2 hauled in back in May 2004. Knight has now virtually matched the $314.9M collected by Iron Man over the last three months and will become the year’s highest grossing blockbuster on Monday. On the all-time list, the new Joker saga has quickly climbed up to number 23 sitting right next to 2001’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

Overseas, The Dark Knight was a dominant force grossing an estimated $65.6M and ranking number one in 43 markets. The opening in the United Kingdom which followed last week’s glitzy London premiere led the way with $22.3M, including previews, while holdover markets dropped by an average of only 38%. The early international cume rose to $126.3M putting the global tally at a stunning $440.5M with major territories like Japan, Germany, Korea, and France still to open. A worldwide haul of more than $1 billion is certainly possible for Bruce Wayne and pals.

The Dark Knight made $155.3M over the Friday-to-Sunday period to set a new industry benchmark, the PG-13 comic book flick edged past the previous opening weekend record of $151.1M held by another superhero sequel Spider-Man 3 from the first weekend of May last year. Batman’s gross included $18.5M from Thursday night shows between midnight and 3am which also set a record beating the $16.9M of 2005’s Star Wars Episode III. Critics piled on praise for the $180M-budgeted Dark Knight which scored some of the best reviews of the year.

Also adding excitement to the film’s release was the fact that Dark Knight was the first regular movie to use IMAX cameras during filming. Six action sequences were shot with the heavy-duty equipment allowing those who see the film in IMAX theaters a greater entertainment experience. This helped Knight set a new record for biggest IMAX opening with $6.2M from 94 venues this weekend for a scorching $66,000 average. Ticket prices are also higher for the large screen format

After just three days of release, The Dark Knight is already the sixth biggest blockbuster of the summer and is virtually guaranteed to swipe the 2008 box office crown away from Iron Man in the coming weeks. With all students out of school in July, midweek grosses will be much stronger than in early May when the metal man and the last webslinger pic debuted.

Supposedly said by Ingrid Bergman, but you can scour the script of the film and never find it. Instead, you will find Ingrid saying “Play it Sam, for old times’ sake, play ‘As Time Goes By’.”

Al Pacino actually says “You’re out of order! You’re out of order! The whole trial is out of order! They’re out of order!”

“If you build it, they will come.”

The actual quote if “If you build it, he will come.” Even though a horde of dead baseball players show up to play on the field, only one player really matters to the main character: his father, with whom he plays a tearful round of catch with in the movie’s finale

“Do you feel lucky, punk?”

Clint Eastwood never said it. The real line comes at the end of Dirty Harry, when Cagney’s answer to whether or not he shot five or six bullets, which he ends with the query, “You’ve got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, PUNK?”

“Luke, I am your father.”

This is probably the most quoted line from one of the most famous trilogies of all time. The actual line following Luke’s accusation of Vader about killing his father is “No. I am your father.”

The first third of the movie was great. It was hilarious, the concept was
a refreshing look at the superhero genre, and I was having a good time. But the moment Charlize Theron’s character gets revealed, it started to become confusing. Overall, it is a solid summer action/popcorn flick

Wall-E it is utter perfection I didn’t think it could surpass my enormously high expectations, but it did. Wall-E is a film that can literally be called a masterpiece

I LOVED this movie

Kung Fu Panda 2-The first one has already earned $162 million at the box office so it is naturally that DreamWorks is already working on a story for a sequel to Kung Fu Panda.

The Host 2-Variety now confirms that a sequel to 2006’s Korean monster flick The Host is in the works. Although it’s being produced partially by the same Korean company, Chungeorahm, the film is a “Chinese sequel” that will explore what happens when people ignore a monster due to their desire for money. The production budget is around $12 million and shooting will start sometime early next year for release by the end of 2009

300-Producer Gianni Nunnari tells Collider that they’re currently working on a sequel to 300. He says that they’re working with Frank Miller and Zack Snyder to create something authentic which would involve a new story of some kind

Cloverfield 2-Cloverfield’s director Matt Reeves also spoke to Collider and told them that unfortunately Cloverfield 2 is on hold. He confirms that they promised only to make a sequel if they could find a story that was as fresh and unique as the first Cloverfield and right now they haven’t come up with that

Producer Joel Silver is spearheading the project and assigned the up-and-coming screenwriter Justin Marks to write the script. Unlike the previous He-Man movie, 1987’s Masters of the Universe, this one takes place on Eternia and tells of the origin of He-Man, the origin of Skeletor, and the origin of the power sword. Apparently it’s a very hard and edgy PG-13, nearing the R rating more than anything. Now the problem is that Warner Brothers isn’t too happy with Silver because Speed Racer flopped which means this project is encountering some resistance at the studio

Transformers 2

The official title, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers producers Tom De Santo revealed that the story will focus on a key character from the first movie who makes a dramatic comeback and attempts to settle a score. Who could it be? Jazz? Megatron? Maybe both? Stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro will all reprise their original roles. Michael Bay is currently filming and will release Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen next summer on June 26th, 2009

Green Hornet Has Been Greenlit

Sony Pictures announces that The Green Hornet has been greenlit for a summer 2010 release. Actor Seth Rogen is still writing the script with his writing partner Evan Goldberg (the two also wrote Superbad) and will also star as Britt Reid. A director still hasn’t been chosen. The Green Hornet is currently set for release on June 25th, 2010, which puts it in the running against Marvel’s Thor, which hits theaters on June 4th that year. Rogen will play Britt Reid, a millionaire publisher-turned-masked crime fighter. The Green Hornet started as a radio serial in the 1930’s before being turned into a comic book, film and TV series by the 1960s. The TV show was notable for the presence of Bruce Lee as sidekick Kato, a kung fu expert with a killer car. The character was created by Fran Striker and George Trendle, who also created The Lone Ranger, another radio character that’s being adaptation, too.

Iron Man 2

Iron Mann2 will begin filming for in March of 2009.The sequel has already been scheduled for a release on April 30, 2010. Jon Favreau is expected to direct again, with Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow returning as well.
You won’t have to wait that long to see Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark back on the big screen, however. Just catch The Incredible Hulk on 19th for a cool cameo. Last Iron Man added $7.5 million domestically and $4.8 million internationally this weekend to bring its worldwide total to a massive $538 million.

Eddie Murphy himself actually approached Paramount with the idea of reviving the franchise and reprising his role as Detroit detective Axel Foley. Maybe that’s because he’s on a downward spiral and is trying every last option? Apparently Paramount caved to his demands and has brought on Lorenzo di Bonaventura, of Transformers and G.I. Joe, to produce. Jerry Bruckheimer actually produced the original three, release in 1984, 1987, and 1994, but has absolutely no involvement in this revival. A writer has not been hired yet. Paramount plans to release this in the summer of 2010.

Last, Sex and the City is number one spot at North American with an estimated $55.7M on opening weekend. According to studio research, Friday’s audience was a whopping 85% female with Saturday’s crowd coming down only slightly from that figure. Opening day was dominated by groups of women going together just as males often do for a new Star Wars or super hero film.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull opened to a stunning $126.9M over the four-day Friday-to-Monday holiday period, and has soared to $152M in the fifth day, Playing in 4,260 locations in the United States. It is the sixth best five-day start ever the other films that gross more that Indiana Jones are Star Wars Episode III ($172.8M, Thu-Mon), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest ($169.5M, Fri-Tue), Spider-Man 3 ($169.4M, Fri-Tue), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End ($153M, Thu previews-Mon), and Spider-Man 2 ($152.4M, Wed-Sun).

Worldwide Indiana Jones grossed $160M since its first launches on Wednesday, It ranked number one in all 61 territories it opened in and brought its global sum to $311M in less than one week of play.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian tumbled in its second weekend of release to $29.8M. It will make about $140-150M in North America and $300M Worldwide. It is a major stumble for Disney which has been developing Narnia as a long-term franchise meant to keep revenue flowing in for several years to come.

Derek Anderson Terminator Salvation producer spoke to BBC at Cannes and said “[Christian Bale] read the script and he loved it, so he’s signed on for all three.” We’ve known for some time that the next Terminator installment would set up a new trilogy for the franchise, and that Bale is to assume the role of rebel leader John Connor in the 2009 film;

The newcomer Sam Worthington, who received a nice recommendation by none other than James Cameron himself, is set to assume the role of a new rebel fighter by the name of Marcus. No one knows who will be Terminator but Director McG has previously hinted at folks ranging from Russell Crowe to Eric Bana to – Josh Brolin

Production on Terminator 4 has already started in anticipation of the May 22nd, 2009 release date. And despite rumoring, there’s no word yet on whether Arnold might make a cameo in the new film

Iron Man dominated theaters all around the world with last weekend gross of $50.5M, and cumulative of $177.1M. It will defiantly make $250M. Did you see Captain America’s shield in the film? The scene in which you can see the shield is after Iron Man returns from Afghanistan after he fights the two F-22 fighter jets, it shows him back in his lab trying to remove his armor but having trouble. Right as Pepper Potts walks down into his lab and asks him “what is he doing?”, the shield can be seen sitting on one of his tables behind him in the lower left corner. I thought Captain America wasn’t around at this time and I thought he got his shield from S.H.I.E.L.D.?

On the other hand Speed Racer struggled in its opening weekend with opening weekend gross $20.2M, It will defiantly not reach $60M. IT also got off to a slow start overseas grossing just $12.8M from 30 markets. South Korea saw the largest international opening with $2.4M helped by the film’s casting of Korean pop star Rain.

I hope by now you’ve seen the greatest Marvel movie Iron man witch it made in the first weekend $100.8M in the US and $201M internationally, and I hope that you have seen the final scene at the end of the credits where Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury tells Tony Stark he’s not the only superhero out there and that he wants to talk to him about the “Avengers Initiative.” An Avengers movie has been rumored for quite some time but now it seems like it could be a reality.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

You might have thought that no Star Wars movie would ever show in theaters again, at least not until Lucas re-releases them in 3D sometime after 2010. Good news – that’s no longer the case, Warner Brothers decided to kick off the series with this theatrical release after they were shown the first footage from the series. Star Wars: The Clone Wars will run around 100 minutes in length and will take place between Episodes II and III. Anakin is not Darth Vader yet and the story will be focused around the ensuing Clone Wars that began in Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

We can pronounce New Line Cinema officially dead. The studio will be falling in under Time Warner and will become part of Warner Brothers.
New Line Cinema was founded 41 years ago by Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne as an independent studio under Time Warner, and they made great franchises (Austin Powers, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Blade, Rush Hour, and The Lord of the Rings) , now they will be operated by Warner Brothers, but will maintain separate development, production, marketing, distribution and business affairs operations. It will closely integrate and coordinate all of those functions with Warner Brothers in order to maximize the performance of their films and operating efficiencies.
2008 films (Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, Sex and the City, Semi-Pro, Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, The Time Traveler’s Wife, and Four Christmases) will be released in the same time, but we do not know what will happen to The Hobbit, but it would defiantly be delayed.

Only two months from now the summer movie season will start with Iron Man (May 2nd), but there are interesting pre-summer movies that will be release in the next 2 mothers. This is the list of movies that I think worth watching until the summer movie season start:

FEBRUARY

Be Kind Rewind
I’m really looking forward for this film, the story is that Jack Black accidentally destroys all of the VHS tapes in a local movie rental shop and must remake all of the movies with co-worker Mos Def to help save the business.

Vantage Point
There are a handful of great actors: Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox, Forest Whitaker, Sigourney Weaver. It’s an action thriller set around the assassination of the president as told from 5 different “vantage points”.

Semi-Pro
Ferrell plays Jackie Moon, a singer with one hit wonder who used the profits from the success of his chart-topping song “Love Me Sexy” to achieve his dream of owning a basketball team. But Moon’s franchise, the Flint Michigan Tropics, is the worst team in the league and in danger of folding when the ABA announces its plans to merge with the NBA. If they want to survive, Jackie and the Tropics must now do the seemingly impossible win.

MARCH

10,000 BC
It pretty much looks exactly like Apocalypto, but set in 10,000 BC – a guy from his tribe gets captured, is taken to the capitol city, probably supposed to be executed, and probably goes on to escape and save the tribe

The Bank Job
The film is based on a true story and after the real life heist, the government got involved and covered up the whole thing until quite recently

Doomsday
Great Britain, 2007. A deadly plague, known as the “Reaper Virus,” has broken out, killing hundreds of thousands in its wake. In desperation, the British Government evacuates as many survivors as it can out of the infected area, and then builds a wall, preventing the remainder from escaping. Thirty years later, with the wall still up and the victims all but forgotten, the virus breaks out again. The Government decides to send a crack team of operatives, led by Major Eden Sinclair, into the hot zone to investigate the possibility of a cure

APRIL

Leatherheads
A romantic comedy set in the world of 1920s professional football starring, trailer looks very funny

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
This is the next comedy film for Judd Apatow team Since Knocked Up and Superbad. It is about a break up that turns even worse when the two just happen to be vacationing in the same hotel in Hawaii

The death of Heath Ledger came as real shocker to everyone, just when I finally found an actor who capture the true scary essence of the joker, someone who can tab into this insane psyche, I found him lost. Heath Ledger was full of talent and there was so much in him waiting to be explored, but all came at an end at the young age of 28.

No one thought that Heath Ledger will be the ideal choice for the Joker. However just by viewing the Dark Knight trailer alone I can tell you, they got it right. Its is not easy to adopt to this role, “its intense” as the late Ledger puts it, the crazy laugh, the anger, the violence, all terrifying qualities of the clown prince of crime.

The joker is not a comedian, is not logical, is not somebody you can understand, however, I can tell you this; he is a time bomb dying to explode.

It is sad that we will not see more of this real version of the Joker, but, rest assured, the single outing of this Joker, that crazy laugh, will put a smile on my face.

Cloverfield made $41M in its first three days of release, directed by Matt Reeves and produced by J.J. Abrams. It broke the biggest January opening weekend, the pervious record holder was 1997 Special Edition re-release of Star Wars and made $35.9M. The 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be on January 13, and I love this year selection. This is a list of my favorite nominations:

‘Atonement’
Best picture, best actress for Keira Knightley, best actor for James McAvoy and best director nominations and it is serious contender for Oscar. Film is an adaptation of Ian McEwan’s WWII romance book.

‘Sweeney Todd’
best comedy/musical picture, best actor for star Johnny Depp, best director and best actress for Helena Bonham Carter

‘No Country for Old Men’
I love this film. Javier Bardem gets a supporting, and The Coen Brothers score nominations for screenplay and best picture.

‘Juno’
Juno may become this year’s ‘Little Miss Sunshine’, with nominations for best comedy/musical picture, best actress for Ellen Page and best screenplay by stripper-turned-writer Diablo Cody.

‘A Mighty Heart’
Angelina Jolie earns a best actress nomination and she deserve it. She will be nominated for Oscars and I hope that she wins.

‘There Will Be Blood’
I did not see this film, but everyone is talking about it. Paul Thomas Anderson’s grabs nominations for best drama picture, best actor for Daniel Day-Lewis and best director. It will open later next month.

‘Charlie Wilson’s War’
Tom Hanks, Juila Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman all grab acting nods for their work. Aaron Sorkin’s screenplay is also nominated, as is the film for best comedy.

‘Into the Wild’
Eddie Vedder’s score is nominated, but where’s the best picture and best director love for Sean Penn?

‘American Gangster’
Denzel Washington makes a run at best actor. Russell Crowe is shut out of the category!, though. Ridley Scott nails down a director nomination. Denzel and Ridley Scott will be nominated for the Oscars.

‘The Assassination of Jesse James’
No best actor nod for star Brad Pitt, but Casey Affleck did pick up a nomination for best supporting actor. I really hope that it will be nominated (not wiining) for best film for the Oscars.

‘Eastern Promises’
This David Cronenberg thriller scores a best picture nod as well as a best actor nod for Viggo Mortensen. If you did not see this film stop reading and go get it.

The question of which pill to take illustrates the personal aspect of the decision to study philosophy. Do you live on in ignorance (and potentially bliss) or do you lead what Aristotle called ‘the examined life’…

The Matrix is a film filled with religious and philosophical symbolism. The plot supposes that humans live in vats many years in the future, being fed false sensory information by a giant virtual reality computer (the Matrix). The perpetrators of this horror are machines of the future who use humans as a source of power. Humans are literally farmed.

The central character of the film, Neo, is presented to us in the opening part of the film as a loner who is searching for a mysterious character called Morpheus (named after the Greek god of dreams and sleep). He is also trying to discover the answer to the question “What is the Matrix?”

Morpheus contacts Neo just as the machines (posing as sinister ‘agents’) are trying to keep Neo from finding out any more. When Morpheus and Neo meet, Morpheus offers Neo two pills. The red pill will answer the question “what is the Matrix?” (by removing him from it) and the blue pill simply for life to carry on as before. As Neo reaches for the red pill Morpheus warns Neo “Remember, all I’m offering is the truth. Nothing more.”

The film as a whole and especially the choosing scene is deeply compelling. Why is the choice between what you believe you know and an unknown ‘real’ truth so fascinating? How could a choice possibly be made? On the one hand everyone you love and everything that you have built you life upon. One the other the promise only of truth.

The question then is not about pills, but what they stand for in these circumstances. The question is asking us whether reality, truth, is worth pursuing. The blue pill will leave us as we are, in a life consisting of habit, of things we believe we know. We are comfortable, we do not need truth to live. The blue pill symbolises commuting to work every day, or brushing your teeth.

The red pill is an unknown quantity. We are told that it can help us to find the truth. We don’t know what that truth is, or even that the pill will help us to find it. The red pill symbolises risk, doubt and questioning. In order to answer the question, you can gamble your whole life and world on a reality you have never experienced.

However, in order to investigate which course of action to take we need to investigate why the choice is faced. Why should we even have to decide whether to pursue truth?

The answer in short, is inquisitiveness. Many people throughout human existence have questioned and enquired. Most of them have not been scientists or doctors or philosophers, but simply ordinary people asking ‘what if?’ or ‘why?’ Asking these questions ultimately leads us to a choice. Do you continue to ask and investigate, or do you stop and never ask again? This in essence, is the question posed to Neo in the film.

So what are the advantages of taking the blue pill? As one of the characters in the film says, “ignorance is bliss” Essentially, if the truth is unknown, or you believe that you know the truth, what is there to question or worry about?

By accepting what we are told and experience life can be easier. There is the social pressure to ‘fit in’, which is immensely strong in most cultures. Questioning the status quo carries the danger of ostracism, possibly persecution. This aspect has a strong link with politics. People doing well under the current system are not inclined to look favourably on those who question the system. Morpheus says to Neo “You have to understand that many people are not ready to be unplugged, and many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it.”

The system also has a place for you, an expected path to follow. This removes much of the doubt and discomfort experienced by a trailblazer.

Another argument on the side of the blue pill is how does anyone know that the status quo is not in fact the truth? The act of simply questioning does not infer a lack of validity on the questioned. Why not assume that your experience is innocent until proven guilty? Just accept everything?

So if the arguments for the blue pill are so numerous, why take the red pill? Why pursue truth even though it may be unpalatable and the journey to it hard? In the film, Neo risks death to escape the virtual reality and discovers a brutal reality from which he cannot return. As he discovers the trouble with asking questions is that the answers are not necessarily what you want to hear.

To justify taking the red pill we might ask what is the purpose of an ignorant existence? Further still, what is there in merely existing? Simply existing brings humans down to the level of objects; they might have utility or even purpose, but where is the meaning? Existence without meaning is surely not living your life, but just experiencing it. As Trinity says to Neo, “The Matrix cannot tell you who you are.”

Given the potential disadvantages of choosing the red pill, the motivation for discovering the truth must then be very strong. The film makes much of this point. Trinity says to Neo “It’s the question that drives us, Neo.” and Morpheus compares the motivation for Neo’s search to “a splinter in your mind – driving you mad.” The motivation for answering the question is obviously strong as the answer will help us to find the meaning in our lives.

What we are looking at here is the drive to answer a question, but the key to this is what drove the question in the first place. The asking of questions about our environment our experience and ourselves is fundamental to the human condition. Children ask a seemingly never-ending stream of questions from an early age. It is only with education and socialisation that some people stop asking these questions. However, we remain, as it were, hard-wired to enquire.

This is an inevitable consequence of consciousness. A being with a mind, conscious of itself and its existence, experiencing a reality, needs to organise the data that it receives from its senses. Simply observing and recording does not allow for consciousness. It is what we do with that information that allows us to think. In order to process and store the vast amount of information received, the human brain attempts to identify patterns in the data; looking for the patterns behind what is experienced. This is asking questions of the sensory information, and requires reasoning. By definition a conscious mind seeks to know. Knowing something requires more than just data, but intelligence or reasoning applied to that data. To attempt to obtain knowledge we must therefore question the data our mind receives; thus, consciousness questions.

So the metaphor of the journey to truth that Neo takes is complete. The journey starts with a question, there is a search for the answer and the answer may be reached. This shows us that the journey does not start with Neo choosing between the pills, or with ourselves deciding whether to question. The act of asking the question is itself the starting point as the aim of asking the question is to seek truth and knowledge.

We have established that consciousness is aware and seeks knowledge and that thus the conscious mind must question. To question is to seek the truth and start on the journey to knowledge. Therefore the choice between the pills is surely made for us. The fact that we are conscious appears to require us to take the red pill.

However, this can be simply countered by someone who would prefer to take the blue pill. They may wish to seek the truth in a different way, or in a less mind jarring set of circumstances. They can choose the blue pill and not deny their consciousness, but to stop seeking the truth entirely would be to deny their consciousness.

Thus we are philosophically driven to seek the truth and the act of questioning whether to seek it is in itself seeking the truth. As conscious minds we will always seek the truth. However, the choice over the red or blue pills is not solely a choice between whether to question or not, it is a personal choice on the method of discovering the truth.
