Toh Baat Pakki works like a Priyadarshan [ Images ] drama devoid of the outrageous plot and the utterly watchable hero, and we're served up a bland, preposterously dated 'comedy' with lame jokes and little to laugh at.
Director Kedar Shinde tries hard to channel the w****some humour of comedies like those of Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee, elaboratey stagey pieces of extremely family-friendly fare. But what he doesn't realise is that those films were masterpieces of plot and dialogue, and that just having people smile a lot doesn't make up for the complete lack of a script.

STORY:
Ishqiya…I'm all for India. Stumped? Let me explain. In this republic season when movies about love and loyalty to country in the straight cut manner (Rann, Road to Sangam) are being released, Ishqiya too deals with the same topic in a skewed, very Vishal Bhardwaj manner. It is a welcome refreshment from the preachy patriotism-be-pushed-down-your- throat films. Yes, it is a love story essentially. But if you care enough to question the basic elements of the film you'll know why it's patriotic.

The first question- why is Ishqiya mainly shot in the rustic, very unglamorous rural locales of Uttar Pradesh? Answer- Because India is a country of villages, fall in love with them for the way they are. Question two – why did the female lead Kisna (Vidya Balan) have to be wife of a caste based gang leader? Answer- another attempt to get the government take this terrible trouble of caste based local wars seriously. Question- why does Kisna come up with kidnapping as a solution for clearing off Khalujaan (Naseeruddin Shah)and Babban's (Arshad Warsi) debt? Answer- kidnapping is rampant in UP, another cause for concern. Why is Kisna's husband Vidyavardhan Varma, also the thug behind importing guns from Nepal to India? Yupp, you got it- another major cause for concern to the passive government. Why is there a point where the lives of Khalujaan and Babban are at the mercy of 15 year old Nandu- because there are scores of settlements spread in India where 'before the kids learn to wash their bottoms, they are taught how to use a gun' and it's a terrifying cause for concern. Why is everyone in Ishqiya using expletives? We Indians can be coolly uncouth. Okay, sorry, now that was bad joke.

So you see, Ishqiya, with its tagline- Ishq mein sab bewaja hai (Everything in love is unreasonable), maybe touted as this story of raw crazy love. However, the subliminal message is, our country is beautiful and plagued by a lot of problems but common, let's not be impassive and do something in our own little way about it.

Ishqiya is a rickety but fun rickshaw ride. It takes you through the lives of the lawless in UP. Nothing has been glossed over. Just plain crude. Its feral. It contemporizes what we read in old Birbal tales, that wit can get you to cheat death. Its painfully hilarious at moments. It gives you lot of the unexpected to keep up the thrill. The answer to the puzzle is unobtrusively given to you in the beginning of the movie. If you are wise enough you'll catch it or you'll just end up feeling silly when its revealed (like me).

Chance Pe Dance’ is a musical film directed by Ken Ghosh and produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The movie stars the fresh pairing of Shahid Kapoor and Genelia D’Souza. ‘Chance Pe Dance’ revolves around a young struggling actor, Sameer (Shahid Kapoor), who is determined to get his big break in the film industry. Positive and confident, Sameer is convinced that his talent will surely get noticed one day.
The struggle continues, even as Sameer starts doing various odd jobs, passionately waiting for the D-day. Meanwhile, he meets Tina (Genelia D’Souza), who is a choreographer. PLOT:
Dulha Mil Gaya literally breaks new grounds with taking a Bollywood plot to Trinidad and Tobago. But beyond that this marriage miscarriage movie moves east of West Indies to introduce India for the zillionth time as nothing more than a small village in pastureland Punjab.

So you are supposed to believe that Tej Dhanraj (Fardeen Khan) is a billionaire-bachelor-playboy and to retain all these adjectival attributes he has to agree to his late father’s will. Ruefully, Randhir Kapoor is resurrected as the late father but is reduced to a retro portrait that does nothing other than subtly suggesting that the story dates back to his 1975 film Ponga Pandit . As per the will, Tej has to marry his father’s friend’s daughter to inherit the assets.

That brings the NRI protagonist to Punjab through the regular route traversed by almost every romance flick from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge to Dil Bole Hadippa and several Namastey London in between. Tej registers a court marriage with gaon-ki-gori Samarpreet Kapoor (Ishita Sharma) for formality sake and runs away, never to return back. The gori takes it on herself to trace her husband in Trinidad only to realize she was conned.

Enter supermodel Shimmer (Sushmita Sen) who gives a facelift to Samarpreet revamping her to Samara so much so that Tej doesn’t recognize her real identity. Evidently its Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi revisited with a gender reversal where the girl substitutes shaving-off-the-moustache gimmick with dropping-her-spectacles for an image makeover. Sadly that doesn’t give any new perspective to the narrative.

If that wasn’t indicative enough, Shahrukh Khan makes an appearance towards the end of a karwa chauth song and how one wishes at least he could have forestalled the foreseeable resemblance between his two consecutive releases. Candyfloss continues with a tinge of forced patriotism as the heroine counterattacks the illusion of Indian woman not being career-oriented saying, “ India ki ladkiyan sau karod ghar chalati hai ”.

New director Mudassar Aziz comes from the old school of filmmaking who puts no lateral thinking in his conventional-to-the-core writing and direction. And though he doesn’t resort to toilet humour, Mudassar (literally) employs latrine thinking in scripting a couple of scenes where cupid strikes when the couple is heading towards lavatory. The characterizations are as much clichéd as their conflicts.

The village belle gives way for some standard broken English jokes but the dialogues are far from being funny, forget witty. And when everything else fails to incite emotions, the background score struggles hard to achieve that. Choreographer Howard Rosemeyer almost replicates the ‘ Bole Chudiyan ’ dance steps in the karwa chauth song number. Leena Chanda’s tackily designed set doesn’t pass off as a cruise liner. Lalit Pandit’s music is plain average.

Sushmita Sen carries a fake accent, occasionally does an Archana Puran Singh, has inconsistent comic timing but looks absolutely gorgeous. Ishita Sharma shows potential which remains untapped in a hackneyed film like this. Fardeen Khan is passable. Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t rise above the regular in his extended cameo. Mohit Chadda doesn’t get much scope. Tara Sharma shouldn’t act without using a dubbing artist. Or better Tara Sharma shouldn’t act. Johnny Lever is wasted in an inconsequential serious role. Howard Rosemeyer’s acting is more animated than his choreography.

Glamour queen Priyanka Chopra played superbly her role. Uday Chopra’s geek look showed natural feelings of the same guys.It can be watched once. While Yashraj has made last attempt to establish Uday Chopra as an actor. Now Uday have to find his luck.

STORY

The plot of the flick revolves around three main characters of Rancho, Farhan Qureshi and Raju Rastogi played by Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi respectively. All the three were friends during their college and hostel days but now Rancho has vanished somewhere and Farhan, Raju are trying to locate him through their journey of Shimla, Manali, Ladakh etc.

Raju and Farhan recall that Rancho was a free thinker and had always inspired them to do something special, which should be different from the crowd. Rancho had also been in conflict with their guide and mentor Viru Sahastrabudhhe (Boman Irani) due to his independent methods and free thinking.

Rancho’s mantra was ‘I’ll Do It On my Terms’; this is the real meaning with which ‘3 Idiots’ takes its inspiration. As is clear from the above that it is not associated with the common meaning of ‘idiot’ which is normally taken to mean as ‘fool’.

Story:
Nitin Bankar (Akshay Kumar) is a personal butler, cook, driver, watchman, gardener to a wealthy female industrialist (Archana Puran Singh) in Singapore. Like any young man, Nitin too, dreams of a better life, but misfortune is his constant companion and his reality is his job under Archana. He desperately wants to become rich and marry the love of his life, Anjali Kakkad (Katrina Kaif), who supports him financially.

Ram Mishra (Suneil Shetty), Nitin's best friend also came to Singapore with the dream of striking it rich, but ended up a courier delivery man. He falls for Manpreet Oberoi (Sameera Reddy), but her high society parents will never approve of marriage, not unless Ram has lots and lots of money.

In the midst of all this, is Harbans Chadda (Paresh Rawal), a shrewd businessman, is looking for ways to multiply his income and avoid his debtors. He decides the best way would be to marry his son off to a girl whose parents can give him a large dowry. He is introduced to Manpreet's parents at a Diwali function and is impressed by their social status. He introduces himself as a well-established businessman, impresses them and they decide to get Manpreet and Harbans' son (Chunky Pandey) married.

With several factors working against them, Nitin and Ram soon reach a dead end in their relationships. When both receive ultimatums from their girlfriends, they realize that only a life of vice can help them out of their misery. They come up with an audacious plan to kidnap someone important and demand a ransom. The kidnapping goes well, and both hide out at a local hotel while waiting for the ransom money. But misfortune is never far, and the kidnapping spirals out of control.

Meanwhile, Manpreet's wedding reception is being held at the same hotel that Nitin and Ram are hiding in. Soon, they are joined by a motley set of characters including a Chinese Don, a hired assassin, a ACB police inspector, a club dancer, an ambassador, a young frustrated double crossing wife, a letch, a drunken waiter, and a dead body nobody wants check into the hotel....

What happens next is De Dana Dan...full of many twists and turns that will leave you giddy with laughter...

Love blossoms between a Delhi college professor, Avantika (Kareena) and her newly joined colleague, Ehsaan Khan (Saif). But as she receives a call to join back her University in New York,
Ehsaan proposes marriage. While her father initially disapproves of the match because of Ehsaan being a Muslim, he finally gives his nod impressed by Ehsaans approach. The couple goes to
New York and finds a house in an Indian neighbourhood. But soon Avantika realizes her own husband is a major part of the terrorist sleeper cell operating there and is the reason for
aeroplane blast that kills 140 people. She also comes to know that the terror outfits next plane is something as big as 9/11. How she unearths the plot with a journalist Riyaaz s (Vivek) aid
and what it all leads forms the rest of the plot.

Writer Rensil DSilva (Rang De Basanti) making his directorial debut with Kurbaan delivers a taut thriller that keeps you engrossed throughout. Despite its long running time of over 2 hours
and 40 minutes his gripping narrative has enough twists n turns and chilling moments. Cutting away from commercial cinema traps and unwanted cinematic liberties, he has made Kurbaan
one of the best thrillers to be experienced on the big screen in recent times. Without taking any sides, the film manages to strike an impact leaving you shaken with the full of bloodshed
climax. Super aid comes in form of Niranjan Iyengar and Anurag Kashyaps dialogues. They are precise and to the point without sounding preachy. The classroom sequence when American
students question discuss terrorism and Islam and Vivek Oberois replies to them is one of the films most important and noteworthy sequence. Though the place drops a bit post interval,
the 35 40 minute long climax keeps you on the edge of your seat. The much talked about love making sequence is very aesthetically shot. Salim Suleimans music is good and fits in the
movie well with no lip sync songs.

Saif Ali Khan has always been very good whenever he has gone wicked and here as well he comes up triumphs in a grey role. The way he changes his body language and facial expressions
from a charming romantic to a cold blooded terrorist is just superb. Kareena Kapoor proves yet again why she is considered a top rated actress today. However, in many emotional
sequences she appears very similar in her act to her elder sister, Karisma. After a really very long time Vivek Oberoi leaves you extremely impressed. His mature act is bound to win him
many accolades and awards for sure. Om Puri as the terrorist sleeper cell head is very good. Kirron Kher after a long time gets a non-Punjabi mom role and she is has delivered one of her
career best performance in this one. Dia Mirza and Nauheed Cyrusi leave you impressed despite their short roles.

Hemant Chaturvedis camerawork matches international standards and so does Nakul Kamtes Sound work.

Finally, a big applause for Karan Johar for making under his Dharma Productions, a film which is very unlike any previous film made under his prestigious banner and one which is not only
extremely well made but also very topical.

Plot: he story is about a simple man named Jolly Maker. He is a hardworking, middle class guy who is on the lookout for money, friends and love. He works for a corrupt builder named Khandar as his accountant. He makes a classic protagonist with being a nerd and un-cool along with being accident-prone.
Jolly Maker’s smart, pretty and sexy snob of a colleague, Monica, gets kidnapped under mysterious circumstances. A series of events lead Jolly Maker to a crazy Ex-Maharaja who plans on destroying Mumbai. The film is then all about if Jolly Maker is able to save Mumbai and find love.
While a lot of effort has been put into it by the director, the story doesn’t have a strong base. Performances by all the actors are fitting for the film. Boman Irani and Mahesh Manjrekar have done a good job while Dia Mirza has been unnoticed as ever. And Cyrus Broacha carries on in his own wave, whether people like it or not. This film is not exactly a must-watch but not totally horrible either.

Plot:Two childhood friends had little in common, except the connection their families had with music. While Arjun's (Ajay Devgn) life was consumed by a passionate drive to get on stage and realize his grandfather's unfulfilled dream, Mannu (Salman Khan) had little interest in his father's music instruments and was content with remaining a child at heart; bold, loud and boisterous, and enjoying the good things in life.

Never had they expected music to solidify their friendship and then test it with catastrophic results...

Arjun, an abandoned child, ran away from an uncle who was his only family in an unfamiliar land. He roamed the streets of London struggling to pursue his sole dream of foraying into the world of music and showmanship. He forged a band with Zoheb (Rannvijay Singh) and Wasim (Aditya Roy Kapoor), two brothers who'd duped their relatives in Pakistan to travel to London in pursuit of their musical aspirations, and Priya (Asin), a beautiful and young music enthusiast.

Far away in Punjab (India), Mannu took to playing in local wedding bands to make ends meet. Shortly after bringing Mannu to London to make him a part of his band, Arjun realized that he had blundered by creating the biggest threat and obstacle to his ambition.

Manu, incredibly gifted, became an instant opiate of the masses with his unique and irreverent style of performing. What took Arjun years to achieve, Mannu did overnight. Arjun felt betrayed by the God to whom he'd surrendered everything in exchange for eminence in music. His (Arjun's) pangs of jealousy and insecurity became worse when Mannu won over his secret love, Priya.

Battling his inner demons and consumed by rage, Arjun devised a sinister plan to destroy his best friend and adversary. Over a three-city tour spanning Paris, Rome and Amsterdam, Arjun sent a naïve Mannu on a downward hurtling rollercoaster ride of sex and drugs before a grand finale at the historic Wembley Arena, where Arjun hoped to regain and enjoy his moment of glory.

But as a rude shock awaited Arjun, it also turned into a humbling and introspective experience that taught him the real meaning of acceptance.
