A 21st century Jack the Ripper set in the present day, Maniac is a reboot of the cult film considered by many to be the most suspenseful slasher movie ever made. Frank (Elijah Wood, in a tour de force performance) is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates and the number of victims increases, it becomes clear that Frank is far more dangerous than he seems. With a pulsating electronic score by Rob, the film is an intimate, visually daring, psychologically complex and profoundly horrific trip into the downward spiraling nightmare of a killer and his victims.

Maniac opens in select theaters on June 21st.

New Red and Green Band Trailers for 'We're the Millers'

Warner Bros. Pictures has released simultaneously, a Red and Green Band trailer for director Rawson Marshall Thurber's upcoming comedy We're the Millers, starring Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Ed Helms, Nick Offerman, Emma Roberts, Will Poulter and Kathryn Hahn.

In the film, David Burke (Sudeikis) is a small-time pot dealer whose clientele includes chefs and soccer moms, but no kids—after all, he has his scruples. So what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious reasons, he learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when he tries to help out some local teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter punks. Stealing his stash and his cash, they leave him in major debt to his supplier, Brad (Helms).

In order to wipe the slate clean—and maintain a clean bill of health—David must now become a big-time drug smuggler by bringing Brad's latest shipment in from Mexico. Twisting the arms of his neighbors, cynical stripper Rose (Aniston) and wannabe customer Kenny (Poulter), and the tatted-and-pierced streetwise teen Casey (Roberts), he devises a foolproof plan. One fake wife, two pretend kids and a huge, shiny RV later, the "Millers" are headed south of the border for a Fourth of July weekend that is sure to end with a bang.

But the seemingly simple assignment turns into a surreal adventure when his car is hit by an out-of-control driver. Trip, dazed and bruised, climbs out of his van only to find himself pitched in the middle of a tense standoff between angry protesters and charging riot police. In the ensuing mayhem, a vicious masked horseman sets his murderous eye on Trip while delivering indiscriminate deathblows to rioters and cops alike. Fleeing through the desolate, post-apocalyptic urban streetscape, Trip has only his wits to protect him as he attempts to deliver the band’s precious cargo and avoid becoming the horseman’s next victim.

Metallica Through the Never opens in IMAX 3D on September 27th, followed by conventional theaters on October 4th.

'Grown Ups 2' International Trailer Revealed

Sony Pictures has released a new international trailer for their upcoming sequel Grown Ups 2, which finds Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello returning for the comedy.

In the film, Lenny (Sandler) has relocated his family back to the small town where he and his friends grew up. This time around, the grown ups are the ones learning lessons from their kids on a day notoriously full of surprises: the last day of school.

Dennis Dugan, who directed the original also returns for Grown Ups 2, opening in theaters nationwide on July 12th.

Dennis Lehane Re-teaming with Leonardo DiCaprio for 'Travis McGee'

After having worked together on several projects, including 2010's 'Shutter Island,' author Dennis Lehane is once again re-teaming with Leonardo DiCaprio, this time for 20th Century Fox’s crime pic Travis McGee, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Lehane will pen the screenplay, which is an adaptation of the John D. MacDonald novel "The Deep Blue Good-by". Published in 1964, the novel marks the first of 21 novels and is seen by Fox as a potential franchise. The project would mark Lehane’s first film adaptation that isn’t based on one of his own works.

In the book, Travis McGee is a self-described beach bum who won his houseboat in a card game. He’s also a knight-errant who’s wary of credit cards, retirement benefits, political parties, mortgages, and television. He only works when his cash runs out, and his rule is simple: He’ll help you find whatever was taken from you, as long as he can keep half. McGee isn’t particularly strapped for cash, but how can anyone say no to Cathy, a sweet backwoods girl who’s been tortured repeatedly by her manipulative ex-boyfriend Junior Allen? What Travis isn’t anticipating is just how many women Junior has torn apart and left in his wake. Enter Junior’s latest victim, Lois Atkinson. Frail and broken, Lois can barely get out of bed when Travis finds her, let alone keep herself alive. But Travis turns into Mother McGee, giving Lois new life as he looks for the ruthless man who steals women’s spirits and livelihoods. But he can’t guess how violent his quest is soon to become. Lionsgate Announces Record Sales at Cannes with a Slate Including 'Mockingjay 1 & 2,' 'Step Up 5,' and More

Lionsgate continued to dazzle its International distribution partners with its lineup of films for the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, achieving a Company record of more than $250 million in sales for nine titles that included The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, the third and fourth installments of the global blockbuster 'Hunger Games' franchise, Step Up 5 and upcoming Lionsgate and Summit titles such as Draft Day, The Last Witch Hunter and Lionsgate UK's A Little Chaos.

The record total surpassed last year's mark by more than 50% and doesn't include the expected revenue from territories where Lionsgate distributes directly, such as the UK, or through distribution partnerships such as its 50/50 joint venture with IDC in Latin America and its partnership with Universal Pictures in India.

"Our strong performance at Cannes this year is attributable in part to the international framework we've set in place combining output deals around the world with self-distribution in key territories such as the UK and Latin America," said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chair Patrick Wachsberger. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.

Antonio Banderas Boards Chilean Miner Film 'The 33'

Antonio Banderas will join Martin Sheen and Rodrigo Santoro in The 33, a feature film centering on the true story of the 33 Chilean miners, who in 2010 were trapped for 69 days before being rescued. Banderas is set to play Mario Sepulveda, the charismatic miner known as “Super Mario.”

The screenplay, written by Mikko Alanne and Jose Rivera "dramatizes the events surrounding the mine’s collapse and the international effort to rescue them, which culminated in the emotional retrieval of all 33 miners trapped half a mile beneath the surface," reports Variety. The rescue was watched by more 1 billion viewers worldwide.

Producer Mike Medavoy (Black Swan, Shutter Island) secured the miners’ exclusive life rights last year and developed the project in collaboration with the men, their rescuers and their families.

Patricia Riggen (La Misma Luna) will direct with production scheduled to begin in the fall. Medavoy and Edward McGurn are producing with Carlos Eugenio Lavin and Leopoldo Enriquez exec producing. Good Universe is handling international sales.

"The Simpsons" Writer Jon Vitti to Pen 'Angry Birds' Movie

Last week, we reported that Sony Pictures Entertainment had picked up exclusive worldwide distribution rights to the Angry Birds animated big-screen adventure and set the movie for a July 1, 2016 release date.

Today, Rovio Entertainment announced that comedy writer Jon Vitti, a veteran of "The Simpsons," "King of the Hill," "The Office," and "The Larry Sanders Show," will write the screenplay for Angry Birds – the upcoming animated 3D film based on Rovio’s bestselling app. Additionally, veteran producer Catherine Winder is joining the production team that includes producer John Cohen (Despicable Me) and executive producer David Maisel (Iron Man).

Vitti won an Emmy Award for his work as writer-consulting producer on "King of the Hill." He was also a writer for "Saturday Night Live," writer-producer on "The Simpsons," writer-co-executive producer on "The Larry Sanders Show," and writer-consulting producer on "The Office," among many other programs. Jon also shared a writing credit on the feature films 'The Simpsons Movie' and 'Alvin and the Chipmunks.'

Catherine Winder is another addition to the team working on the Angry Birds movie, joining as a producer. Winder was formerly the president of Rainmaker Entertainment in Vancouver, and also oversaw set-up, production and development at Lucasfilm Animation and served as Senior VP of Production at Twentieth Century Fox Animation where she re-structured Blue Sky Studios and oversaw the production of the original 'Ice Age.'

Commenting on the announcement, Rovio Entertainment CEO Mikael Hed said, “I’m very excited that Jon and Catherine have joined us, bringing with them their vast expertise. I’m confident we are building the right team to deliver an amazing movie experience to our fans.” John Cohen said, “I’m thrilled to have Jon and Catherine joining the project. Bryan Singer once again took to Twitter today, this time posting a photo of Jennifer Lawrence sporting all of her blue Mystique goodness while on the set of the directors upcoming X-Men Days of Future Past.

Said to be based on The Uncanny X-Men issues #141 and #142. The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men's failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men. She succeeds in her mission and returns to the future, but despite her success, the future timeline still exists as an alternative timeline rather than as the actual future.

Opening in theaters July 18th, 'The Hunger Games' star is joined in the superhero adventure by Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Nicholas Hoult, Jason Flemyng, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Booboo Stewart and Adan Canto.

Li Bingbing Joins ‘Transformers 4′

Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures jointly announced today that Chinese actress Li Bingbing (Resident Evil: Retribution) has been cast in the eagerly awaited Transformers 4.

The actress joins Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz and Sophia Myles in the fourth installment in the hit series of movies based on the best-selling Hasbro toyline.

Paramount Pictures will release the film on June 27th, 2014.

“I am excited to have Li Bingbing join our cast and to be shooting portions of the movie in her native China. I have always aspired to work with the best actors and this cast is especially exciting now with the addition of Li,” said Michael Bay.

Paramount's sci-fi sequel Star Trek into Darkness, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Benedict Cumberbatch took first place this weekend with an estimated $70.56 million. Coupled with its Thursday opening and IMAX screenings on Wednesday, the J.J. Abrams directed second installment grossed a total of $84 million domestically. Despite the extra day and the added advantage of higher priced 3D admissions, the film didn't succeed in reaching the expected $100 million opening weekend and failed to match the $75.2 million three-day opening weekend take of its predecessor 2009's 'Star Trek.' The film received an 'A' CinemaScore, but word-of-mouth may need to pick up for the film heading into next weekend, as it faces competition from the animated tale 'Epic,' 'Fast & Furious 6' and 'The Hangover Part III.' Overseas, the film added another $40 million, to bring its international total to $80.5 million for a global haul of $164.6 million overall.

Disney and Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3 grossed an estimated $35.18 million this weekend to finish in second place at the box office. The Shane Black directed action adventure, starring Robert Downey Jr., Guy Pearce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall, Jon Favreau and Don Cheadle fell 51 percent from last weekend, but still held up well considering the increased competition. Domestically, the film has grossed an estimated $337.07 million through 17 days of release and another $736.2 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total gross to $1.073 billion (with a "b").

Director Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby (Warner Bros.), starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke and Elizabeth Debicki continued to hold strong. Grossing an estimated $23.42 million, the big-screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel dropped one spot from last weekend to take third place. Debuting overseas this weekend, the film added $42.1 million from 49 foreign markets, for an overall global take of $132.3 million.

Pain & Gain (Paramount Pictures), starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie landed in the number four spot this weekend with an estimated take of $3.1 million. The Michael Bay film has grossed $46.5 million since opening last month.

Rounding out the top five was DreamWorks Animation's The Croods. The animated family comedy, starring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman finished in fifth place with an estimated gross of $2.8 million.

Emily Blunt and Christine Baranski are the latest names to be attached to Rob Marshall's big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Into the Woods. The pair are in talks to join the cast, which includes Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep and potentially James Corden, Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal, who are also said to be in talks.

"Into the Woods" is the imaginative account of what happens when the lives of new and old fairy-tale characters dramatically and humorously come together. Cinderella, Jack (of bean-stalk fame), Little Red Ridinghood, and the Baker (Corden) and his Wife (Emily Blunt) set out for the forest on a quest to find "happily ever after." Along the way they meet Rapunzel, a Wicked Witch (Streep), a lascivious Wolf, vengeful Giants, and their own destiny.

With the original music coming from Stephen Sondheim, David Krane (Chicago, Nine) will arrange the music for the film, while James Lapine penned the script, based on his book for the musical.

John DeLuca (Chicago, Nine) will serve as producer.
