Movie Podcast Weekly returns with its biggest and most anticipated episode of the year: Episode 382, our annual BMOTY celebration, where we count down and declare our Best Movie of the Year during our Top 10 Movies of 2025. This marks our first recording of 2026, and as always, the stakes feel high as your four favorite hosts reveal their personal rankings and reflect on the cinematic year that was 2025… Alongside our lists, we are honored to include a special Top 10 from “Mario in the Bar.” We count his list down right alongside our own for a full, festive rundown of the year in cinema.

As expected, the conversation goes off the rails in all the best ways. Jason dives into the unexpected joys of “side-boob” theater seating; Andy vents his growing frustration with modern moviegoing audiences; and Ryan reveals that his wiener is from Detroit. Karl’s Irish credentials are examined, though listener Paddy Glynn may still hold the crown. Even so, during this episode, you will hear a discussion of the usefulness or utility of cliffhangers in TV series… Are they still necessary? If the show’s good, won’t people still watch it? Then Karl comes out of left field with an amazing and unexpected “My Three Sons” parallel (you won’t see this one coming!). And Jason poses a longing and lamenting question “based on regret,” he says. Oh, and listen to find out which film director Karl thinks should be under surveillance as a precaution because he is likely a danger to others and himself. We don’t really have anything to say about Ryan here. Also, Jason gets indignant at Karl’s suggestion that “Chris Pratt is no Captain Kirk.” Join us! Yeah, you read that right: MOVIE PODCAST WEEKLY is resuming its weekly release schedule to take on the films of 2025. So, this week in Episode 370, your ignoble hosts — Jason, Karl, Ryan in absentia, and “a Guy Named Andy” (who now insists his real name is “Carlton”) tackle the shiny neon spectacle of Tron: Ares (2025) and P.T. Anderson’s new flick, One Battle After Another (2025), which has “the subtlety of a nuclear bomb.” Expect the familiar griping about spoiler-heavy trailers, Jason’s humorous reason for his early arrival times, and an unusual theater story that proves moviegoing still has surprises. Meanwhile, Karl provides some insights from ordering the “Tron: Legacy” 4K and uses the word “penultimate” more than once.

In this explicit, chaos-fueled episode, Andy continues his questionable claims of actually watching movies, Jason rails against sneaky, unforeseen 3D screenings, and the gang debates whether the world’s dislike of Jared Leto is justified or just dog-piling. Listener and frenemy of the show, Cody Clark, chimes in with feedback curated by Jason.
