Movie Prop Collectors was sent this photograph of eFX’s Thor Hammer prop replica “Avengers” version which is being previewed in March at WonderCon.

This Thor Hammer is part of the series of Marvel collectibles being produced by premier replica prop company, eFX.

EFX, is a company that creates and sells licensed, high quality, screen accurate limited edition prop replicas and collectibles from films, television, video games and other entertainment media.

They have  just released a sneak peak photograph and information of their Spring line. From what I could tell in the photograph the three helmets look pretty amazing.

In a departure from Movie Prop Collectors regular subject matter, I thought it would be of interest to readers to share a New Times Article published yesterday, January 25th, 2012 concerning the safety at Apple‘s factories in China.

While the iPad and iPhone are used by many in the entertainment field as well as a popular part of pop culture, Apple’s internal operations are notoriously secretive and not usually available to the general public. This New York Times article breaks that secrecy.

The video below is a May 2011 explosion at the Foxconn Technology factory  mentioned in the Times article.

The article delves into the world of Apple and the reportedly unsafe and sometimes deadly, factories they utilize in China to make Apple products, including the iPhone and iPad.

In May of 2011, Apple’s Chengdu Foxconn Technology factory had an explosion that killed 4 workers and injured dozens of others in what was called an accident caused by aluminum dust used to polish iPads. It was reported the explosion was due to a faulty ventilation sysytem. The aluminum dust according to factory workers, was reportedly floating around the factory and they were covered in it while they worked. The 7 page Times article, written by Charles Duhigg and David Barboza, features interviews with current and past factory workers, as well as Apple executives on the unsafe conditions at various Apple factories in China. Problems at Apple factories in the East have been going on for quite some time as referenced in this 2006 Mail Online article.

While many of my friends and business associates own Apple products I never have. Not for any particular reason, other than I was happy with my simple flip phone and laptop. I will however, be looking forward to Apple’s response (if any), to the recent New York Times article.

Car auctioneer, Barrett~Jackson, sold the screen used General Lee #1 from the television show, “The Dukes of Hazzard” for $110,000 ($121,000 with BP) in Scottsdale, Arizona this past weekend.

It is interesting to note that a replica General Lee owned by actor, John Schneider,  was sold by Barrett~Jackson in 2008 for $450,000, which supports the old adage, right time, right place in the world of auctions.

The car was part Barrett Jackson’s January 15th~22nd 2011, car auction and the vehicle was used in the Dukes episode entitled, “One Arm Bandits” which aired January 26th, 1979. The car, dubbed, “Lee 1“, made it’s first and only jump in the episode over a Hazard County Police cruiser and was also seen a few times in the episode before the jump.

Writer, Jasmine Elist, published a very interesting article for the LA Times recently about Pasadena eye-wear owner, Russ Campbell.

Mr. Campbell, owns Old Focals, a vintage eye-wear store located in Pasadena, California.  The company has supplied glasses for movies, t.v and commercials for over 20 years and has a vast connection with many of Hollywood’s well known films and television shows.

Campbell has supplied glasses for such films as “J. Edgar,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” “Cowboys & Aliens,” “Catch Me if You Can” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” the upcoming “Men in Black 3“, as well as the TV show, “Mad Men”.

Auction house, Profiles in History, has announced on their Twitter account that a Nautilus style model from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, will be part of their Spring 2012 Hollywood memorabilia auction.

2012 marks an important  anniversary for fans of the James Bond film franchise. It is the 50th anniversary of series. 2012 also marks the 40th anniversary of the National Motor Museum and the 60th anniversary of Beaulieu opening its doors to the public.

To celebrate these important milestones Beaulieu’s National Motor Museum is presenting, “Bond in Motion“, the largest collection of original cars used in the James Bond film series.

Cars on display include the Aston Martin DB5 and the Lotus Esprit S1,  “From Russia With Love’s”, Fairey Huntress Speedboat, “Goldfinger’s” 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III, the autogyro from “You Only Live Twice”, as well as the Acrostar Jet , from “Octopussy“.

Cars from the Bond films of  Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig are also seen in the exhibition as well.

There are a total of 50 cars to celebrate 50 years of Bond and the museum has a search function to see the vehicles featured in the once in a lifetime exhibition.

A prop Watsonian Squire sidecar made in Blockley, Gloucestershire,UK is on display at the  Court Barn Museum in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, UK.

The vehicle is on display from Tuesday, January 10th, until Sunday, March 11th.

Oregon State Senator, Betsy Johnson, will be launching a series of events featuring over 300 hats which will be auctioned to benefit the “Tillamook Breast Health Coalition” a program of the non profit, “The Rinehart Clinic” which is located in in the north Tillamook County coastal town of Wheeler, Oregon.

The Rinehart Clinic was created in 1996 by Dr. Harry H. Reinhart, whose family of physicians have cared for three generations of north Tillamook County residents.

The Tillamook Breast Health Coalition program raises awareness for breast health awareness and assists breast cancer patients when in need.

The hats were donated by Imie Camelli , Jane Griffith, & Betsy Johnson.

On January 7th, from 12 noon unitl 3pm, the vintage hats, including some Hollywood themed from Betsy Johnson’s family, and Imie Camelli, include Julia Roberts hat from the horse racing scene in “Pretty Woman“,  Larry Hagmans‘  Stetson Fedora, many others, will be shown at the kickoff event for the auction. The auction will be a phone in bidding process and will take place from January 7th until March 31st.

Winning bids announced at a special closing event on March 31st.

The clinic will also hold various events in January, February, and March, including a fashion show & tea at ArtSpace (503)377-2782, on Feb. 18, another fashion show and auction in Portland on March 10, (part of the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Issues Conference), and a dinner, which will further showcase the hats being auctioned as well as raise awareness for the clinic.
