Anchors Aweigh is probably one of the best musicals ever written.Lots of singing and dancing in this one, especially by Gene Kelly. Two sailors go on liberty to see if they can find love and romance. They meet up with a woman who is trying to break into show business.

Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra make such a funny team. The songs they sing together are pure entertainment. Kathryn Grayson is gorgeous and really sweet.

On top of that,if you are fond of piano, you'll be amazed by José Iturbi.
But I think the sweet thing should be remembered is Frank Sinatra's playing piano and singing "I Fall In Love Too Easily".

Nothing more to say about this very warm heart film.The film is somewhat syrupy and a bit simplistic, but correct in most essentials and, after all, quite entertaining. The music, of course, is the best thing from Debbie Reynolds' voice. "Beyond the Stars" is excellent for everyone to listen but "Dominique" gives us such a warm impression.

This is absolutely the best film ever! Great story about being a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman for a change. Julie Andrews is great playing such a role.

The film is easy to be loved to see. One might have seen this film more than 30 times , and still not tired of it.

The musical numbers are mostly confined to the nightclub stage. Among the songs and music by Henry Mancini and Leslie Briscusse are "Crazy World," "Cherry Ripe," "Gay Paree," "Le jazz Hot," "The Shady Dame from Seville," "Chicago, Illinois," "You and Me," "King's Can-Can," and various reprises. The film won an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Song Score or Adaptation Score. It was also nominated in a slew of other Oscar categories, and Julie Andrews won a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy/musical.

Julie Andrews sang this very sweet melody with good lyric meaning.

Sayonara is an adaptation from a James Michener novel, a story about American soldiers serving in Japan during the Korean War.

Air Force Major Lloyd Gruver (Marlon Brando) is reassigned to a Japanese air base, and is confronted with US racial prejudice against the Japanese people.Gruver must take a position when a buddy of his, an enlisted man Joe Kelly (Red Buttons) falls in love with a Japanese woman Katsumi (Miyoshi Umeki) and marries her. Gruver risks his position by serving as best man at the wedding ceremony.

The major also falls in love with a beautiful Japanese Matsubayashi dancer named Hana-ogi (Miiko Taka), a member of a celebrated, but all-female dance troupe. She offers herself to him: "I am not allowed to love. But I will love you if that is your wish." He is asked by a reporter to comment on his proposed marriage to the Japanese woman which will be against "the Social Rule" of both American and Japanese. Gruver replies with the final line of the film: "Tell 'em we said, 'Sayonara."

Many critics said what really sells this movie is the performance of Brando, who handles this adult role with seeming ease. He gives a sensitive, compassionate and thoughtful performance, even if the character is stuck in a well-meaning mushy and meandering movie full of the best of liberal pieties and good intentions.

I agree but please consider the remarkable roles of Red Buttons and Miyoshi Umeki. You'll finally find why both got Oscar awards. This means,for me, Marlon Brando's performance isn't above average.
And the great Irving Berlin wrote such a beautiful song for us, too.

Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant are dynamite in this story of mistaken identity, murder, and stolen loot. A wonderful supporting cast includes James Coburn, George Kennedy and Walter Matthau. Things are not always what they seem, and the suspense builds right up to the surprise ending. The on-screen chemistry between Hepburn and Grant makes for a delightful romance, and the search for the murderer and stolen money is exciting and takes many unexpected twists and turns. This movie is an overlooked gem.

Terrific action sequences include a sprawling fight scene that ends on a hotel roof and a riveting climactic showdown. People agreed that the film’s real climax is the romantic final scene.

Right! Grant and Hapburn are best. But watch carefully on Walter Matthau's best performance. Anyway, the very best thing came up with the Great Duo--Mancini and Mercer.

This is one of Caines best films and proof that with the right material he can be a very good actor. The story is based on the popular 1960's British theme of human emotions and how the central character faces up to their shortcomings.

All the rest supporting roles are excellent. As a period 1960's piece, the film is almost flawless and Sonny Rollins' jazzy soundtrack is beautiful. The ending of the film is very moving with Caine summing up his life and the arty end credits being run whilst Cher sings Burt Bacharach's "Alfie" theme tune. Watch it and your views on life will change.

While Alfie did not win any Academy Awards, it was nominated for a slew of them. Best Picture, Best Actor (Caine), Best Supporting Actress (Vivien Merchant),Best Writing and Best Music/Original Song(Burt Bacharach and Hal David).

It won the 1967 Golden Globe for Best English-Language Foreign Film.

It can be said that Alfie is an excellent introduction to Michael Caine's work and, for all its flaws, it remains an outstanding film.

How are the winners selected (Academy Awards Tip)?

Nominations for the annual Academy Awards have been announced year after year.But who picked them? And who selects the winners. Here is a tip for your current knowledge.

According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, 5,722 Academy members voted with secret ballots sent through the mail.
Academy members select nominees in their respective branches (acting, directing, etc.), while all members select the Best Picture nominees. Then the Academy's entire active and life membership votes to pick winners in each category.

Membership in the Academy is by invitation of the Board of Governors and is limited to those who have achieved distinction in the arts and sciences of motion pictures.

The 13 membership categories are Actors, Art Directors, Cinematographers, Directors, Executives, Film Editors, Music, Producers, Public Relations, Short Films and Feature Animation, Sound, Visual Effects and Writers.
