Ready to swoon? Boy band Big Time Rush just dropped their more-addictive-than-crack new single ‘Music Sounds Better With U’ featuring Mann. Woohoo! The fab foursome debuted the beat-driven track via Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Friday, and it’ll get your toes tapping. It’s still polished and pretty pop like we expect from this quartet, but it’s more club-tacular than we’re used to.

It’s also a lyrical declaration about the redemptive power of music and how sharing it with a loved one makes it sound better. It encompasses that whole young love/mixtape mentality. Oh, you know, share your favorite songs with the boy or girl you’re crushing on so they can “get” what you are about. Music is a universal connector and language we all speak, and ‘Music Sounds Better With U’ makes that point via a fluffy, confectionery pop song with a a bridge sung by ‘The Mack‘ rapper Mann.

The boys sing about when “Things get so bad / You’ve got my back / And you make me wanna sing,” once again illustrating the point about how your infinite playlist is as attractive and has the same effect as a pheromone to the opposite sex.

Adele has had her songs covered on Glee before — Gwyneth Paltrow sang “Turning Tables” and Rachel and Jesse St. James busted out John Legend’s a cappella version of “Rolling In the Deep” — but this mash-up of 21 tracks “Rumour Has It” and “Someone Like You” (from the November 15 episode “Mash Up”) might honestly be one of the best performances to come out of the show. (Ah, Adele — so good, she can improve Glee.) Have chills sent up your spine by watching Santana, Mercedes and the rest of their all-girl show choir below.

The choreography is captivating, and Santana (Naya Rivera) in particular sounds fantastic belting out Adele’s sorrowful song (while throwing lady love Brittany meaningful glances throughout the number). Though “Rumour Has It” was nixed as the third single in favor of “Set Fire To The Rain” (inevitably to be covered on Glee at some point), we hope this performance secures its spot as the singer’s fourth US single.

Also, can we point out that Adele is so awesome, she’s had multiple songs that weren’t even singles become so popular they were covered on Glee?

Last month I had the opportunity to talk with David in an interview for Blogcritics about his current tour, and he shared with me a little about this latest video, which was directed by Chris Sims.

“The content of the video, I wanted to showcase how we are live. I feel like it’s really easy sometimes to throw a tie on, and comb your hair, and put together this really sweet storyline; and I think “Fade Into Me” could have definitely taken that angle and it would have worked. I wanted this video to be kind of a no frills, no pretense kind of look at us on the road. It’s a lot of live footage, really just for lack of a better way to phrase it, it’s more of a day in the life kind of thing.”

Review:

Revolutionary, by no means, but still engaging enough to bring a bit of character to the throwback song. Even in that ‘character’, it appears to lack a bit of -umph that Mary needs to boost this record into record-buyer’s view. As no stranger to choreography, Mary’s moves in ‘25/8′ were also a characteristic throwback to her earlier work (which appears to be the parent album’s overall feel). But, while we certainly hail the Queen here at TGJ and applaud her efforts to step out of her comfort zone, that does not forgive those Bengay-thirsty two steps.

Either way, how well the visual will assist Blige’s bid for the upper half of the charts remains to be seen. But, as ever, here’s hoping her loyal fanbase and seeming ‘25/8′ promo hustle will certainly fill in the blanks.

Mindless Behavior drops the high-energy visuals for their auto-tuned track, “Girls Talkin’ Bout“.

There’s nothing simple with this music video as the stunning visuals are all there to depict its high-power, high-energy vibe this track is aiming for. The predictably Swedish electro-pop duo Icona Pop finally deliver their EP Nights Like This, having long teased us with ‘Manners’: a song that won a slot on a Kistuné compilation and some buzz from respected music press. EP-opener ‘Lovers to Friends’ is consequently a bit of a disappointment, feeling like a slightly teen-y American pop number – something Miley Cyrus could release (with, admittedly, a few lyric changes) – and lets down the EP by its positioning.

‘Manners’ remains the stand-out – edgier than the first track – and instantly likable with its ‘oh no you didn’t’ sass and spirited ‘let me break it down for you’ lyrics: ‘you don’t just treat a girl like she’s a fool/like it’s up to you… Manners/take a second look and you’ll see/there’s no-one else like me…’ A finger-wagging dance move may need to go into development to accompany the shout-along chorus. Basically, it’s brilliant.

The title track’s breathy first verse gives way to a chanty-cheery, trilling chorus, coming off like the Sega-obsessed baby of Sophie Ellis Bextor and Natasha Bedingfield, but a bit less exciting than that sounds. And the final track, ‘Sun Goes Down’, starts out like Muse covering ‘The Final Countdown’ before cranking the spooky bleeps lever and following The Knife down an appropriately dark path. It is the second-best song on the EP, behind ‘Manners’.

Nights Like This then is a fun dollop of synthy electro-pop, but we’d already heard the best song and so it doesn’t fully capitalise on Icona Pop’s early promise. Not bad – good, in fact – but we’d hoped for just a wee bit better.

JLS' new song "Take A Chance On Me" is a Pop song with some R&B qualities intertwined within and it sounds great. The song is about them singing to a girl who has been hurt by past relationships and she's not sure if she wants to begin a new one but the men of JLS are letting her know that if she is ever ready to begin another relationship that she should take a chance on them. I think that the song is heartfelt and emotional at the same time. The guys really take on the song with knowing that they are not trying to force the girl into a relationship but instead waiting for her and the vocals kind of represent that in a way because they don't over do it at all.It has a nice smooth feel to it and you don't feel like you're listening to an over saturated Pop song and is easy on the ears.

Overall: It's an easy listen and pleasant to the ears...I enjoyed it.

Nicky Minaj, aka that person that was on “Monster” with Kanye West and Jay-Z, could be great if she wanted to be. It took me a while to come around to her verse from “Monster”, but once you get a since of what her “rapping style” is, you realize that she kills it and is able to hang with some of the most talented rappers of all time on that track.

Unfortunately, she has surrounded herself with garbage during her solo rap career so far. She’s forced to work with Lil Wayne since he signed her, but she has also had to have tracks alongside other talentless hacks, including will.i.am, Rihanna, Ludacris, etc.. but I don’t put the blame on any of those people for the reason that she’s a quickly dying talent, I put the blame on Nicki Minaj herself.

Yes, I already admitted that she’s a talent, but when you’re looking at her track-record, she’s been putting out bull-crap teeny pop songs ever since she put out her first CD. This leads me to today’s song/music video of discussion, Super Bass. Super Bass is a song that is coming up on her “Deluxe Edition” of her first CD. Before we get to the song, let me just say that re-publishing an old CD with two new singles is just downright stupid in its own right. Is there anybody sitting on the edge of their seat wondering to themselves “Gee, I can’t wait to purchase the same album that I bought last year, with two whole new songs!”. If you’re going to make new songs, great, just release those songs as singles or hold them for the next album. Now, let’s get to the music video.

Review:

The English-language vocals are fine, save for the unnecessary rap-style vocal breaks – the girls handled themselves admirably here. But musically, this single is just not on the level of “Gee”, “Genie”, or “Hoot”. It is a shade better than much of what is overpopulating Top 40 radio currently and lately, but knowing what I know of what they’re capable of, this was a poor choice for a first American single. I would have much preferred that they cut an English language version of “Genie” or “Hoot”, which would have smoked the likes of Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus into either retirement or suicide.

Even sadder was the choice of producer Teddy Riley to handle this. What was wrong with SM’s own stable of producers and songwriters? Teddy Riley has some classics under his arm but he hasn’t had a hit single as either a producer or songwriter since Bill Clinton was president. At least it wasn’t some low-talent, overpriced, overrated chump like Timbaland that can only write one riff at a time, talk annoyingly in the background behind the featured vocalist, and call it a complete song.

The only silver lining to this is that those that hear this, if they choose to dig further, will get to hear what the band is capable of. But even that’s not a given. I hope the new album is a lot better than this!

Review:

With the release of his #1 debuting album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, and with features on many other songs as of late, J.Cole seems to be on top of his game. However, with "Lost Ones", Jermaine Cole takes on a deeper side and makes a song many can relate to.

This song is a very deep one that Cole actually came out with 3 years prior, but it was so good that it made the cut for an album released in 2011. "Lost Ones" explains of a couple that is going through the difficulty of having a child. The father, J.Cole, says he isn't ready to take on this responsibility but on the other hand, the woman, demands to have the child and goes on from there...

Overall: "Lost Ones" is perfect and is a very sentimental and personal piece and the video, directed by BBGUN, fits in well with what Cole was trying to portray.

Beyoncé has released her sixth music video ‘Party’ from her latest album ’4.’ King Bey is releasing videos like crazy lately, with three videos being released in the month of October alone. I am not sure of her record company’s rationale to release them in such a cluster.

This video version of the track is actually the ‘Party’ remix featuring J. Cole (an artist surrounded by a lot of hype and not so coincidently signed to Roc Nation) sans Kanye West (who produced this track) and Andre 3000. I must admit I was really looking forward to seeing Yeezy and André pop up in this video. The track has a chill 80s vibe to it and features a Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh sample.

Taio Cruz has released the music video for his newest single, titled Hangover. Clearly inspired by the film of the same name, Cruz shows us what happens when you party a bit too hard.

“The general concept of the video is just full on madness,” explained Taio. “We have had the most insane party and no one really remembers what happened, so we have to have flashbacks to try and remind us as to what happened the night before.”

Joining him is Flo Rida as we see Cruz flashing back to the night before while trying to put together the pieces. It’s an entertaining video and the song itself is sure to go over well at parties and in clubs.

Hangover is the first single off of Taio Cruz’s upcoming album, TY.O, due December 6th.

Beyoncé has released the full music video for “Love On Top” after getting the sneak peek debuted in Australia last week.

“Love On Top” is a favourite track from “4″ for Beyoncé fans with her vocal ability being showcased in her ascending voice as the song progresses. Unfortunately, I was disappointed the video was cut down to 3:17 minutes, a full minute less than the full length 4:27 minute track featured on the album. The unique feature about this song is how Beyoncé builds up vocally to higher and higher registries, so it lost points for me on that creative choice.
