NEWTOWN, PA – mPower Software Services, a provider of IT business solutions and technology staffing services, today introduced mPower Standardized™, a complete desktop lifecycle management solution designed to resolve, simplify, and manage large-scale corporate desktop challenges.

“mPower Standardized is a unique approach to simplifying desktop management,” said Mark Buscaglia, vice president of managed services at mPower. “We have developed a framework to desktop standardization designed to standardize desktop environments, simplify delivery of new technologies, reduce ongoing end user support costs, and manage technology assets across an entire organization.”

While mPower Standardized is essentially a framework for desktop standardization, Buscaglia points out that the framework can be applied when tackling many large-scale IT initiatives such as Windows 7 migrations, technology refreshes, vendor or license audits, and application rationalization.

The mPower Standardized framework allows businesses to take a comprehensive look at their IT environment and standardize desktops in conjunction with solving whatever the pressing or current IT initiative may be. This leads to long-term cost savings and a solid desktop management foundation rather than only addressing the pressing initiative.

The mPower Standardized framework is centered on a best-practices approach to creating a standardized desktop environment. Through a multi-layered approach, Standardized delivers a true universal OS and single image technology. The framework includes the following:

Universal Image – standardize and automate the operating system

Application Library – organize, automate, and manage applications

Delivery Toolset – centralize deployment of applications and settings

Management Hierarchy – organize and manage the alignment of roles and their corresponding application resources

Security Controls – protecting company assets and information

In addition, through a partnership with BDNA of Mountain View, Ca, mPower Standardized delivers comprehensive IT visibility and data normalization tools used to discover and rationalize an IT environment faster and more accurately than any other available tools.

“We’ve found BDNA’s solutions deliver what we need to quickly discover and normalize data across a client’s entire IT infrastructure,” said Buscaglia, “BDNA allows us to reduce the IT asset discovery phase of a project down to hours or days instead of what literally used to take weeks or months.”

“In simple terms, mPower Standardized is a smarter approach to tackling large desktop initiatives,” said Buscaglia. “We have been able to demonstrate that a standardized and rationalized Windows 7 OS and application environment can cut ongoing management costs by as much as 60% when the mPower Standardized framework is deployed in conjunction with a Windows 7 migration solution.”

mPower Software Services is currently offering free assessments and demonstrations of how mPower Standardized desktop lifecycle management solution can be used to reduce cost for enterprise-level desktop projects.

NEWTOWN, PA – October 20, 2011 – mPower Software Services, a provider of IT business solutions and technology staffing services, today announced the company has partnered with BDNA, headquartered in Mountain View, Calf., to provide clients with IT discovery and visibility solutions.

“We’ve found BDNA’s products deliver what we need to quickly discover and normalize data across a client’s entire IT infrastructure,” said Mark Buscaglia, vice president of managed services at mPower Software Services. “BDNA allows us to cut the time necessary for the IT asset discovery phase of a project down to hours or days instead of what literally used to take weeks or months.”

mPower’s desktop solutions are geared toward helping businesses with enterprise-level IT infrastructures take on today’s most challenging projects including large-scale Windows 7 migrations, software license compliance audits, and technology refreshes – all areas where BDNA’s products help mPower expedite the delivery of a solution.

“Many of these IT challenges businesses are faced with actually present opportunities to drive organization-wide change and long-term cost savings,” said Buscaglia. “Our approach to solving these challenges starts with learning what a client has, what they use, and how they use it. BDNA allows us to accomplish that with both speed and accuracy.”

In addition, BDNA has added mPower Software Services as a service partner. BDNA’s service partners provide BDNA clients with professional consultation, assessment, analysis and implementation using BDNA products.

“mPower offers clients a full range of comprehensive desktop solutions where BDNA products are an exceptional fit,” said Peter Dehn, director of channel sales at BDNA. “We are pleased to be working with them and see this partnership as being very beneficial for both our clients and theirs.”

mPower Standardized desktop life cycle management methodology is a framework designed to resolve and manage the internal challenge corporations are facing today – The inability to consistently obtain, deploy, manage, and reclaim business assets – including software licensing, hardware, user ID’s, employee credentials and/ or any critical data or asset necessary to introduce and maintain corporate human capital.

This document speaks to the process methodology that manages the design, implementation and delivery of a standardized technical framework which can deliver a
managed desktop lifecycle environment. The functional frameworks which make up the mPower Standardized desktop life cycle management methodology and the critical role of BDNA Discover and BDNA Normalize in the application rationalization phase are discussed. In addition, this document focuses on the subsequent steps used to deliver a more effective approach for desktop standardization and management, while providing a solid desktop foundation for simplifying large scale IT projects including Windows 7™ migrations, technology refreshes, vendor audits, device standardization and IT cost reduction initiatives.

From multiple PC images and non-standard applications, to network device security and software compliance issues, there are many hurdles that enterprise-level businesses struggle to overcome.

Windows 7 is the single biggest release since Windows XP and will have a major impact on your enterprise. From management, to security, to virtualization to application development–every aspect of your IT infrastructure will be affected. Whichever path you take–upgrading an infrastructure over a multi-year refresh cycle or installing Windows 7 on existing computers–it’s critical to gain complete visibility into your infrastructure to ensure a smooth and cost effective upgrade to Windows 7.

For the vast majority of enterprises, migrating to the Windows 7 operating system is not an “if,” but a “when” and “how” question. Migrating to a new generation of Windows operating systems is, if anything, overdue. For a variety of reasons, most enterprises decided to skip Windows Vista, originally released in 2006, giving Windows XP, originally released in 2001, an unexpectedly long life as the standard enterprise-computing platform for business and government agencies. Although Windows XP still maintains the dominant share of enterprise desktop and mobile computers, Microsoft released the final XP service pack in 2008, ceased taking orders for the operating system in October 2010, and will end support for it in April 2014. Even this 2014 end-of-life date comes three years later than expected, and stands as an exception to Microsoft’s policy of 10-year lifecycles for operating system generations.

From multiple PC images and non-standard applications, to network device security and software compliance issues, there are many hurdles that enterprise-level businesses struggle to overcome.

Piling on more technology is the most common approach to “fixing” these issues. This usually leads to IT environments which function, but are not truly efficient, cost effective, or cohesive. Tasks such as large-scale Windows® 7 migrations, technology refreshes, or implementing peripherals like iPads and mobile devices, all become more challenging, costly, and less effective without first establishing a solid desktop management foundation.

mPower Standardized Helps You:

Standardize your desktop environment

Simplify delivery of new technologies

Reduce ongoing end user support costs

Manage and track technology assets across your organization

At mPower we follow a process oriented development methodology designed to minimize project risks and development time. We focus on business solutions that fulfill business goals, instead of merely providing technical solutions. All our applications are built on the basis of this philosophy.

The approach that we adopt is the spiral iterative methodology, where the project goes through one or more iterations of all project stages. The above presentation gives a brief overview of the process.

We have defined processes for requirement capture, analysis, design, development, testing and deployment. We generate UML diagrams representing the Use Case Model, Analysis Model, Design Model, Implementation Model and Test Model.

Requirements Definition

In this stage, the customer requirements are gathered. This is done on the basis of information provided by the customer and which could be in the form of documents, existing systems & process specs, on-site analysis interviews with end-users, market research and competitor analysis. The following steps are necessary (but not limited to):

Requirements analysis with business application goal and high level requirement gathering

Creation of visual scope document and feature list

Providing technical recommendations and high level requirement specification

Analysis

A detailed analysis is carried out from the information in the vision & scope document and feature list. The following steps are necessary (but not limited to):

Analysis and documentation of Software Requirement Specification

Document Use Case Specification & Diagram and generate Use Case Model

Design business rules and process workflow diagrams

Establish Requirement Traceability Matrix

Validate scope and estimates against the contract and revise if necessary

Design

Application design is developed based on software requirement specification, use case specification, business rules & diagrams and the scope agreed upon in the Requirement Definition stage. The following steps are necessary (but not limited to):

Designing Architectural Diagrams

Creation of High Level Design and Low Level Design class diagrams

Establishment of Entity Relationship Diagram, Data Flow Diagram and Deployment Diagrams

User Interface – Prototype is developed and validated against the requirement and presented to the client for approval

The use cases elaborated in the analysis model are represented using collaboration diagrams

Design model elaborations are made from the analysis model. Validation of the scope, estimates against the contract and revisions are made if necessary

The Implementation Model is generated from design

The Test Model is generated from use cases

Development

The actual code based on the design is created and tested against design requirements and test cases. The following steps are necessary (but not limited to):

1) The development of code base proceeds as per implementation and design models
2) The application source code is tested according to the test cases and test plan
3) Documentation of processes
4) Creation of Use Case Test results

Integration & Testing

The developed application is tested through test cases, test plans and user acceptance criteria in the deployed environment.

Integration and quality testing is carried out resulting in test reports.

Client acceptance tests carried out.

Client feedback and debugging.

Client acceptance

Deployment & Acceptance

Developed application is deployed on the live server.

Integrated application and deployment plan

Implementation on client location or hosting server.

Implementation acceptance by client.

Creation of archived software

Transition to the maintenance team.

The steps above are iterated through until the final deliverable is completed.

We will submit a detailed project schedule in accordance with the above deliverables. The project schedule will clearly indicate the responsibility of the client and the developer and indicate the dates by which each person will submit their deliverables.
