We have all just returned (on an epic and tumultuous 6.5 hour flight) from an unbelievable trip to the 2010 Head of the Charles Regatta.

Not only I am extremely proud of the performance of my varsity women, who took a second place finish to the always dominate and powerful CRI, Inc. of Boston (who happened to be in their own battle with third place Saratoga from NY who had beat them a week before by 8 seconds), I am also extremely proud of the performances from all of our crews and scullers, collegiate rowers and alumni. Overall, Marin made a powerful impact on all as a strong, focused and quality organization.

Congratulations to each of you on your outstanding individual contribution to your team; you made a difference and can be so proud. Your individual performance became your boat's outstanding performance, which became the club's outstanding performance which resulted in the club taking 3rd in the
team points trophy, though we were the top club by beating Riverside and CRI. This has been our goal for years and we have succeeded!

Well done, Marin. We killed it.

Zach was the stroke seat in the Marin Varsity Boy's top 8 this year that went undefeated in the regular season and raced to a silver medal at National Championships. Zach left immediately from Nationals and headed to Princeton, NJ, where he has been training and kicking butt on behalf of Marin for the last 5 weeks. Last week, final cuts were made and Zach was officially named to the team. The latest information we have is that Zach is not only in the top 8 right now, he is sitting stroke seat and doing a fine job of it! Zach is happy to be in a boat where everyone is around the same height as he is, I'm sure!

Next week Zach and his boatmates will depart for Junior World Championships, which will be held in Racice, Czech Republic. The following links are to the US Junior National Team's World Championships website, and the Junior World Championships Official website, respectively, where real time race information can be found. Racing starts Thursday, August 5th.

The Marin Rowing Association would like to congratulate Zach for his incredible accomplishment and thank him for his enormous contribution to the success of our club during his time here. After World Championships, Zach will be heading off to Yale to continue his education, rowing and otherwise! We wish him good luck at Worlds, and beyond!

MRA Singles Ladder, Sunday June 27, 12:30PM!

Come join us on Sunday, June 27th for the next installment of the Marin rowing singles ladder. The Lightweight 8, manned by Colin McGaw in the coxswains seat, Griffin Whitlock, Tyler Browne, Paul Panicacci, Scott Kennedy, Cooper Goldman, Andy Goldman, Oliver Bazalgette, and Colin Wren, won their heat and semi, putting them in a 3 way contest with the other two west coast crews in attendance, Newport and Marina. They raced their hearts out and pulled a blistering fast 5:58, the fastest time they had produced all season, but were bested by just a little over a second by a retooled and very fast Marina boat, and finished in 2nd place. This is the best finish by a Light 8 since the Marin Boys won the event in 2004. The boat had two seniors in it, McGaw and Panicacci, both of which have committed 4 years of their lives to Marin Rowing. They will be attending UCSB and Arizona next year, respectively. The boat includes 3 members of last years lightweight 8 that brought home silver as well from the National Championship in 2009, Whitlock, Panicacci and Andy Goldman.

The Heavy 8 of Harry Blatt, Zach Johnson, Greig Stein, Zander Bonnoris, Patrick Konttinen, Scott Roycroft, Jack Stein, Jones Bazalgette, and Sam Seder, has enjoyed a perfect regular season this year and never won a race by less than 5 seconds. They had to travel 2500 miles to find real competition, and they did. They won their heat and semi as well, but a dominant Kent School crew powered their way down the course, holding off a heroic sprint by our boys and winning by 1 second in a staggering time of 5:47, with Marin Rowing coming in at 5:48. The next fastest crew was 10 seconds behind these two. These boys participated in what was basically a two boat epic cage match to be remembered for a very long time, and most certainly made their foes pay a dear price for their victory. They made us proud with their racing, their rowing and their work ethic, as anyone who has been around the boathouse from 2 to 7pm any day this year can attest to; these young men know not when to say quits. The varsity boat will be saying goodbye to 3 four year rowers. Zach Johnson will be attending Yale this fall, as well as spending his summer in Princeton trying out for the US Junior National Team. We wish him the best of luck, represent Marin well! Jones Bazalgette will be attending Cornell and rowing for their Lightweight squad, and Jack Stein will be manning the oar for Northeastern University in Boston.

This result is the best finish for the V8 since 2001 and the best overall squad result ever, not to mention the best any individual men's squad did at the event. Although not gold, these young men should be very proud of what they have done. To the seniors, all of which are 4 year Marin Rowers, we say thank you for all the sacrifices, personal, physical, mental and social, that you have made for the good of this Club, and we wish you all the best in the future. Always know that you have a family here at Marin Rowing that is ready and willing to lend a hand, give advice, and provide assistance to its alumni. Never hesitate to come by and say hello and remember, Marin Rowing is your home.

The rest of these athletes are returning next year hungry to give it another go, ready to push themselves to their absolute limits to go all the way. If you see one training around the boathouse this summer, give a high five, congratulate, and admire the commitment, the camaraderie, and the sacrifice that each and every one of them have given to our club, Marin Rowing.

Marin Junior Alumni Rock National Championships

This past weekend Lake Natoma hosted the 2010 NCAA Womens Rowing Championships and Marin Alum were all present and accounted for. What a great experience to see these guys row under the GGB and arrive to a small crowd at the Golden Gate Yacht Club. CalHiSports.com doesn't cover the sport of crew because there really is no organized high school competition in California, or any states for that matter.

That doesn't mean that there are not countless numbers of young student-athletes that use crew as a ticket to some mighty fine educational institutions.

A perfect example is the Marin Rowing Association, located in Larkspur, whose teams have sent countless young men and women on to college and successful rowing careers.

Founded in 1968, it began as a boys program for only the Redwood of Larkspur boys and later girls, but now has student-athletes from high schools throughout Marin County as well as San Francisco participating in its highly-regarded program.

The current stars of the program for high school age boys and girls is the Women's Varsity 8+ that just returned form winning its second straight Junior National Rowing Championship, June 12-14 at Harsha Lake in Cincinnati.

On June 8, CalHiSports.com was actually on the water in the chase boat, watching the girls in a capacity as a local Marin journalist.

We rode shotgun in the pontoon-style boat with MRA Executive Director and Women's Varsity 8+ Coach Sandy Armstrong while the girls were practicing for the Nationals on Corte Madera Creek near Highway 101 in Larkspur, just off San Francisco Bay waters. The part that seemed so exciting was the start as they practiced on their own without an official starter.

Coxswain Chelsea Lucas, a recently graduated senior from Redwood who will be on the Cal crew team next year, was in total charge.

"Attention, (pause) go! Pryyy, said Lucas, drawing out the y in pry as she encouraged the girls to pry the water.

With that command, the girls shot forward and Lucas continued to bark commands and encouragement crouched from her seat.

"Slow down and let your knees come to your chest so when you have the blade to the water you can feel the connection, said Armstrong from the drivers seat of the chase boat after the girls practiced several starts in the deep choppy waters.

"Good power. I like what I see. Nice blade to the water. We're good to go, continued Armstrong after the girls had fine-tuned things to her liking.

Whatever Armstrong imparted to them about their start must have worked because on the chase boat she admitted that the girls' starts have not been their strength in the past.

In Cincinnati, the girls blew away from the starting line and led from start to finish, winning in 6:45 for the 2000m race, and by five seconds over Phillips Exeter Academy from New Hampshire.

Besides Lucas, the rest of the national title team included: Stroke, Erica Rippe, Drake (San Anselmo), senior, Cal; Caitlin Morgan, senior, Drake, Stanford; Michelle Leason, junior, Tamalpais (Mill Valley); Caroline Rosetti, senior, Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco), Cal; Kristy Wentzel, junior, Drake; Olivia Ley, senior, Branson (Ross), Princeton; Fiona Duffy, senior, Tamalpais, Columbia; bow seat, Audrey Wooster, senior, Redwood, Princeton.

MRA Singles Ladder, Sunday June 7, 2009, 1:45pm!

After a very long hiatus, Rachel and I are excited to announce the next MarinRowing singles ladder, a 2500m member's only race conducted entirely in singles! Marins Masters Men 8E (ages 55-60) squad pulled a three-peat by bringing home the Stewards Cup for the third year running, retaining their championship title by a one-second margin over second-place finisher Cambridge, while the Mens Masters 8B (ages 36-43) crew comfortably snagged the Presidents Trophy by open water over the rest of the field, marking their second victory in this event in three years.Marins junior (high school) crews also had a successful weekend, with the Varsity Mens 8+ finishing fourth out of 16 crews with just a 2.5-second margin separating the second, third and fourth place finishers, while the Varsity Mens Lightweight 8+ also finishing fourth overall, and the JV Mens 8 finished fifth. Thanks to everyone who attended the City Council meeting last night. Your presence helped to present the MRA for who we are and what we do.

I believe the Council recognized the greater good in this matter but that does not mean that we may become complacent about following the rules and conditions of the permit. Let's all continue to be sensitive to our neighbors on the creek. Noise is the biggest issue and one that we do have control of. In addition, support of the migrating birds was of concern by the Marin Audubon Society President and we will look forward to learning more about this from her in the future.

Dear Friends and Family:

Thank you for your love, prayers, and kind thoughts and remembrances over these past few days. It has been great comfort to us to have such an overflow of support from all of you.

A Memorial Service for Tony will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary (RBACS) at 376 Greenwood Beach Road in Tiburon , CA . This is an organization that Tony loved and supported for many years, and its beautiful setting made it a natural choice for us. We encourage you to explore the property starting at 2pm. An informal service will begin around 2:30.

Just like Tonys many organized bird counts over the years, his Memorial will be held outdoors, rain or shine. It is often windy and a bit brisk at the RBACS, and were not yet out of the rainy season. Accordingly, we ask that you check the weather and come prepared bring a jacket, hat, foul-weather gear, etc. if the day warrants. This is a casual environment, so please wear whatever is most comfortable. We also suggest that you to wear shoes appropriate for walking, as there is a lovely nature trail on the grounds that we encourage you to explore before or after the Memorial.

Per Tonys wishes, we hope to avoid eulogizing him with lofty platitudes he would have rather been roasted than canonized. Instead we hope to provide a forum for his friends and loved ones to be together and share their memories of what a special person he was to us. If you have a memory of Tony that you would like to share, in the form of a photo, story, anecdote, favorite poem, joke or other remembrance, we will set up bulletin boards to which you can post them.

After the Memorial, refreshments will be served on-site, so we encourage people to stay, snack, and continue to enjoy each others company.

In keeping with Tonys Green principles, we are requesting that you do not send flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tonys name to the Junior Naturalist Program, c/o Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary, 376 Greenwood Beach Road , Tiburon , CA 94920 (www.tiburonaudubon.org).

One final note there is limited street parking at the RBACS, so we are encouraging people to rideshare if possible. Spillover parking is available in the public lot at Blackies Pasture (1/2 mile east on Tiburon Boulevard ). From the Blackies lot, walk back on Greenwood Beach Road to the RBACS.

We look forward to seeing you next weekend as we remember Tony.

Jerome Ryan

GREENBRAE, Calif., March 17, 2008 Marin Rowing Associations high school crews placed first in seven and second in six events at the second of two concurrent weekend regattas hosted by the Jack London Aquatic Center at the Oakland Estuary on Saturday, March 15. Marins mens and womens varsity and novice crews squared off against the Oakland Strokes, Los Gatos, Pacific and Serra High at the early morning event, rowing with an outgoing tide and a headwind that ultimately resulted in difficult rowing conditions, with whitecaps and major wakes by mornings end.

After having lost to Oakland by a one-second margin on March 8, an intense week of training paid off for Marins Varsity Mens 8+ with an almost two-second victory over Oakland in Saturdays rematch.

Marins Varsity Women won their JV and 3V contests, with the Varsity Womens 8+ finishing just a fraction of a second behind reigning national champions Los Gatos in an exciting finish. Marins Mens Novice 8B+, Novice 4+ and Freshman 8+ crews all finished first, with second place honors earned by Marins Mens JV8+, Varsity 4+ and Novice 8A+, and Marins Womens Novice 4+ and Freshmen 8+ crews.

All of our teams have been training hard and it shows, comments Sandy Armstrong, MRAs director and head coach for the Varsity Women. We have had some terrific racing and look forward to facing these and other competitors as the season progresses.

Marin Rowing crews will next compete on March 29-30 at the Windermere Crew Classic at Redwood Shore, and will travel the following weekend to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic on April 5-6.

Marins Mens Varsity 8+ and Lightweight 8+ crews both finished second to Oakland in very tight battles by one-second margins.

He was 89.

Neils donated our boathouse land to the City of Larkspur with the specific intent to allow the rowing club a place to reside for life. Neils' grandchildren rowed for the MRA and the Bon Air Shopping Center has hosted our Junior Ergathon for 16 years. Our Pocock 8+ is named after Neils.

Mr. Schultz teamed with his father to develop Greenbrae - initially dubbed Kentmore - from 635 acres of farmland.

Mr. Schultz helped build more than 1,000 homes, 1,500 apartments and dozens of businesses between Highway 101 and Manor Road in Kentfield. He served on numerous building groups in Marin and was a proponent of Marin General Hospital affairs for years.

"I would describe him as a pillar of the community," said Hank Buhrman, who was chief executive of Marin General when Mr. Schultz was on the hospital's board. He "has been the very fiber, the backbone of the community. He built Greenbrae from nothing."

Born in San Francisco on May 27, 1918, Mr. Schultz attended Stanford University, graduating in 1939 with a degree in civil engineering. He married Mary Barbara Levick in 1941 and joined the Army Air Corps, serving as a lieutenant colonel in World War II.

Upon his return from the war, Mr. Schultz went to work with his brother, Alvin, for their father's development company. In 1946, Schultz Building Co. bought 635 acres from the Archdiocese of San Francisco and broke ground on what was known as "Marin's new city."

Earlier, Graham Willoughby had crawled across the mud to mark hazards for removal. The volunteer crew then went on the attack using boards laid out over the mud to create pathways to the stumps. The crew cut the stumps into manageable pieces using chainsaws and a bucksaw and then hauled on ropes to drag the pieces out of the creek. All marked hazards were cleared and the boards were retrieved. While the fixed hazards are gone, rowers must be constantly vigilant for floating debris. As one of the crew said, "it was good, stinky fun." The crew included Karol Calvin, Charlie Campbell, Charlie Cross, Dr. Charles Gooding, Kathy Grady, Elliott Henderson, Mike Krause, John McCrea, Alan Mooers, and Spencer Sias.

Sad and Tragic News

Mark Boles ('98) died January 16th of head injuries he recieved during a skiing accident at Squaw Valley.

I will be updating this story as time goes by to tell you how we are doing.

GOLD GOLD GOLD and Men's Points Champs
3 events , 3 Victories. Starting with the 2- Chad Bailey (Capital) and Carl Nunziato (MarinaAC) had a good race and came through with a 10 second victory.

4+ Dan Felling (Marin), Matt White (Newport), Kevin Rickon (San Diego), Chris Plumer (Marin) and Matt Southern (Los Gatos)Cox
Moved out steadily and won without a sprint.

8+ Dan Felling stroking, Matt at 7, Kevin at 6, Dane Oatman (Newport) 5, Carl 4, Chris 3, Alec Macrae (Los Gatos) 2, and Chad in Bow.
Behind at the start but started moving during the settle and never looked back. Had the fastest time of the day (5:52) over even the U23 8+ crews.

With our scullers winning 2 of 3, we took the Men's Points as well. The women won only the 2- and so we lost the Overall Points by 1 point (30 to 29). A great regatta and lots of fun for the boys.

All made it home safely. Thanks to all the Parents for their support.

Just wanted to let you know that we had a boathouse erg race bracket as our workout on Saturday, complete with handicaps to make things fair and a losers bracket for people eliminated, and Mike Malecek and I ended up in the finals going against each other in a 500 meter piece. He had to beat me by 4 seconds to win and beat me by 2 so I was the overall winner. It was an MRA only final so I figured it was a win-win situation! Hope your season's going well, good luck with the rest of your racing.

Last year the award went to Alex Dunne for his excellent production of this website. This year the award goes to two members who have also made a significant impact on the club. They are Jim Kirsner and Liz Hart. Jim and Liz have spent countless hours working on supporting our financial books. US rowing is funding the transportation of the adaptive team members and coach to have a 1 week winter training camp here at MRA.

In order to keep the costs of lodging down for the athletes, I am looking for homes for the athletes for the week of winter camp Jan 2-8. The athletes in the 4, will need no special accommodation. The fixed seat rowers are in wheel chairs, and would need accommodations without a lot of stairs.

You have all been very generous and accommodating with me so that I have been able to row with the masters womens program, and compete with the US national adaptive team. I am pround to be a part of MRA, and am excited to have my team experience your generocity, and acceptance! I hope you will enjoy seeing the team in action, with our beautiful fully accessable boathouse! Thank you so much.

Come to the MRA Boathouse on Sunday, January 21st for a boat ride! Beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing every half hour until 11:30 a.m., you can sign up to row or just ride in an eight seated boat and launch off the dock in the experienced hands of 4 or more junior rowers from the Marin Rowing Association. This is a delightful experience and a fun way to support our junior rowers. The ride takes about 45 minutes and all are welcome to join. If you choose not to put your oar in the water, you can just go for a ride. This is a great way for family members (including siblings, parents, or grandparents of rowers), friends, and people interested in rowing to safely experience the sport. We can print a gift certificate if you would like to give this as a gift to someone for the holidays. Proceeds go toward equipment for the rowers. To reserve your seat for $40.00 and confirm your time, please contact:

Day 1: In our first race of the day, Graham Willoughby and Mike Stralka came back from a length deficit and 3rd palce to sprint by 2 crews to win by .3 seconds over Fairmount Rowing Club.

Our other gold medal of the day was from sculler Mark Volkmann. He won his final in the B 1x event in the fastest time of the day. We also placed 3rd and 4th in two different finals in the F4+ and a 2nd and 3rd in two different finals of the D8+. The Marin D8+ came in less than a second behind a great Occoquan 8.

Side note: Lydia coxed 2 boats for Cambridge (with Bill Erkelens) and won 2 Golds in the F4+ and D8+.

Day 2: Gold for Men's B 4+, Women's C 4x (Eileen Hansen and Dana King) and Men's E4+.

Day 3: Another gold! The Men's C8+ came through with a 5-second victory.

Men's recap: 4 golds, 6 seconds, 8 thirds, 5 fourths. Some of the best racing was the second-place finishes behind a "World All Star" entry and in front of 4 other "stacked crews".

Well done, everyone.

He has previously represented the USA in the Lwt 8, Lwt 2- and Lwt 2X.He spent this year at UCLA business school with limited training, but still won his heat and both finals in the fastest times. Update 1: Mike won both finals (best of 3) and has been named as the Lightweight single sculler to compete at the Worlds in Eton, GB.Update 2: : MIKE DECLINED THE INVITE TO WORLDS. He has an internship for business school and decided to skip this year's Worlds and prepare for next year's Worlds and the Olympics in China.Mike Altman checked in with row2k overnight to communicate his decision to decline a spot on the 2006 team: "I am juggling priorities right now with rowing, my MBA program at UCLA and my summer internship with a sports marketing firm in Atlanta. I wanted to stay in touch with rowing and decided that I could budget myself at least three weeks to row this summer. I take competing at the World Championships very seriously, and since I am new to sculling I wanted to race trials to see what kind of time I could post in the single. If I felt I could contend for a medal based on my speed, I would jump at the chance to race in England. But since the singles field in Europe is extremely tough (the Europeans start sculling early) and based on my raw speed this week at Mercer, I'm not ready to make a real impact just yet. As tough as it is to turn down a spot on the team this year, I'd personally be better off putting my energy into my internship and my studies for the rest of the summer and through the fall so I can fully devote myself to rowing as we get closer to the next Olympics. I am encouraged by my results based on my limited training this year and look forward to some fun racing for the U.S. through 2008 after I finish my degree in the spring of next year. Under USRowing's rules from previous years, the 2nd place finisher would have had the opportunity to race at Worlds after I declined. It was a surprise to me that this was not still the case, and it is a shame that the U.S. won't be represented in the event this year. In the words of the Governator of my home state, 'I'll be back...'"

New 4x's!

The two new Filippi 4x's arrived today! We are asking that anyone who owns a pair of sculling oars show Graham which ones they are by August 18th. He will be happy to place a small label with your name on the oars. The goal is to clear the private-oar rack of any oars that are not being used. We have noticed that some private oars have made their way into the club-oar rack and want to remind everyone that if they are there, they may be used by someone who thinks they are club oars open to anyone (even if they have markings on them). We also are attempting to free up some space in the private-oar rack. As you all know, there is not a lot of extra room there. Thanks for your understanding.

It's from a show called "Home Turf," a locally-produced, kids-oriented news program. The show did a segment about the Marin junior program in 1985. View video...In the boys' boat is (from stern to bow) Jeff Kaltreider, Spencer Cutter, Brian Nicholson, Fred Honebein, Mike Andrews, Gordon Edgar, Tony Alexander, and Alex Dunne. Aaron Browning was the cox, and there's a cameo of Lou Lindsey. In the girls' boat (stern to bow) is Gail Hilty, Joan Hilty, Laurie Birnbaum, Meghan Johnson, Erin Turner, Annie Nesbit, Amy Wilson, Nicole Presber. Jackie Caplan was the cox. Check out the excellent opening rap about us (we were fast and fresh). Also note the fancy digs at our original boathouse, on the other side of the freeway. On Saturday March 18th, 200 blind youth ages 7-19, from eight states arrived at the Junior Blind of America campus at 7:30am. Opening ceremonies were lead by the USC marching band; the mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa and other dignitaries gave the day a fitting start. The weather cooperated, and the threatening rains were replaced by sun and the occasional cloud cover.

Events included the 50 and 100-yard dash, high jump, long jump, shot put, goal ball, bowling, and swimming. The Concept 2 rowing ergometer was to be introduced for the first time, in hopes that there would be enough interest to have it as an competitive event the following year.

Battle of the Bay

Results:

"I was indeed a fun event. I came in 9th in the womens lw 50year old group, and they gave me a first place medal for being the only blind competetor. 2 blind men (25 year old guys) from Korea competed too. There were 4 rowers from the UK that used electrodes to stimulate their legs while they rowed, they are paraplegics. Amazing stuff. Marin Rowing got some nice pr around having a blind rower on the team. You guys are great, and I couldn't do what I do without you!"

Here's what happened in early morning HOCR racing:The varsity boys turned in an impressive 11th place finish out of 61 entries in the "Youth Eights" category -- a race which includes college freshmen teams. The boys placed second among high school aged teams behind 9th place Northern Virginia R.C. Jim said " A great race and solid effort. The kids surprised themselves and now know they can be one of the best in the country. Great job" See the results...The varsity girls also had a great race, placing 18th out of 57 entries in the "Youth Eights" category. Like the boys, this a segment includes college freshmen teams, so the competition was fierce. The results table indicates that the girls were penalized 10 seconds for apparently missing a buoy, which bumped them down three spots from 15th place, but they still beat the vast majority of the high school crews. See the results...In the masters double men (40+), the MRA's entry (John Younger, Selden Chuck) took 7th place in a field of 18 boats. Apparently, like the varsity girls, they also received a 10-second buoy penalty. See the results...In the masters double women (40+), the MRA's entry (Cassandra Cunningham, Aerial Gilbert) took 17th place in a field of 19 boats. See the results...Plus: Marin IJ coverage of yesterday's MM 4+ and MW 8+ races...Congrats to all our teams!

Head Of The Charles 2005 - Saturday Results

Congratulations to the outstanding performances by the MRA crews at the Head of the Charles Regatta today in Boston, MA: The Masters Men 4+ came in second place, in a field of 19 crews. The boat was 20 seconds off the lead boat from the Toronto Sculling Club, and within 1.8% of the winning time -- easily close enough to ensure an invite back to the regatta in '06. Jim says, "Great job by the whole boat, we beat (and almost caught) Kent Mitchell and thought that was good enough...but the course record holders and '03 winners from Toronto were too good. A solid Silver and incentive to train even harder for next year. Thanks Adrian, Alex, Steve, Mike and Tim."See results...The Masters Women 8+ came in seventh place in a field of 22 boats, about 35 seconds behind the first place boat from Long Beach RA. The MRA crew was within 3.5% of the winning time, meaning another invitation back next year. We will be meeting at Piper Park in old clothes, boots and work gloves. Hats are a good idea too. The Friends of the Corte Madera Creek will provide water. It's very important that we help with this endeavor as the Spartina plant holds the silt from the water and is instrumental in the silting up of the creek. We all know how little water there is at low tide! We should also be good neighbors; this is the right thing to do for our shared creek-side community. Please make a point of being there to help, all team and non-team club members should be represented.

Junior Novice Parent Pot Luck Dinner & Meeting

Please Join us for the

We have hired a great new coach for the Novice Men. As some of you may know, Mike Wallin decided to move away from the SF/Bay Area and has landed a job coaching the Lincoln Park Juniors in Chicago. We support his move and wish him the best of luck.

Our new coach is Graham Willoughby. Graham is a Marin Rowing Alumni from the class of 1997 and has been the Varsity coach at Capital crew in Sacramento for the past 2 years.

We are lucky to have him, and the staff looks forward to a great year together. The first races of the day had the Marin JV's and 3V 8's beating their JV counterparts. This was a very strong showing for both the J's and 3's and really shows the depth of athletes on the Varsity level for Marin.

The Varsity 8's both cruised to big victories and handled the gusty headwind for the fastest times of the day.

The Novice boys team had a very busy weekend as the Freshman 8 traveled to Long beach for a Saturday race. They won by 13 seconds and then flew back to race at Lake Natoma. The Nov boys won their 8's races by 24, 30 and 16 seconds. The Nov 4 lost to the stacked crews of Capital by only 11 seconds.

The Nov Girls kept the streak alive and won the Nov A, B and Frosh 8's by 8, 23 and 32 seconds.

Windermere Regatta Pics Posted

Congratulations to all of the Marin crews who raced at the Windermere regatta -- it was an excellent showing by everyone.
