1. Regarding the hang drying area, my shop is set up with an indoor drying area. Meaning, it is not exposed, not open and clothes are “air dried” not “sun dried”. However, your setup would be better because there would be enough air for circulation.

2. No ventilation necessary except for the exhaust of the dryer. You’ll need it to let the hot air out coming from the machine.

3. Some machines has a built in heater that provides the temperature. Some machines get the hot water from a source. We don’t usually require hot water except for whites using it with bleach, and for smelly clothes too.

4. Tiles would be ideal for laundry flooring.

5. Yes, charlies soap is available on the seminar day.

I am currently studying masters in management in one of the universities here in Cebu. As part of the course requirement, we are required to submit a feasibility study, and i have chosen the laundry business for my study.Through the internet, I came across your postings about tips in putting up a laundry business. In this regard, i hope you won’t mind if i ask you the following questions about your business:

1. How much was your capitalization in starting up the business? Depends on the scale of your business, it could range from 100k to 1M.
2. How many years have you been in the business? Im already turning 9 years in the business.
3. How many machines did you have at the start and what were these machines? (Pls specify details; e.g. washing machine wiht 10-11 kg capacity) I started the business with only a pair of washer and dryer, 10kg capacity.
4. How much is you rent per month if you are renting? I’m renting the whole place at 20k but rental is shared by my other businesses.
6. What is the approximate area does a small, start-up laundry shop usually occupy? I have an area of 24 sq.m. when I started.
7. How much is the estimated sales per day? What is its sales growth for the past years? Sales varies from 1500k-4000k per day.In terms of sales growth, if you stick in one area, there’s really none, unless you expand, meaning put  up branches. I already have 3 branches at present, all stand alone, meaning not a pick up station.
8. How much is the estimated water and electricity expense per month? Consumption depends on the business coming in. The more customer, the bigger the expense.
9. How profitable is the business? (Its estimated percentage to sales) Depends, to say the ball park figure of direct cost: It’s 14%.
10. What are your services and their corresponding prices? I set a standard of 28-30/per kilo of wash dry fold. Wash dry press at 70/kilo.
11. What is the time frame for every laundry job? 24 hours
12. How many employees do you have? Are they full time? 2 All around. Full time
13. How long did you get your return on investment? Ranges from 3 to 6 months
14. What is the condition of your business now? How does it deal with competition? Business is doing good. I compete with quality service. I never bring down my price, it’s not good for the business.
15. How do you dispose of your water waste? Goes straight to the city sewage system.

16. What are your SOPs to avoid wastage of detergents and damage to the fabrics? I keep an inventory. I also use a very efficient type of detergent, very convenient on usage and almost 0 wastage.

17. What are your firm’s advantages over your competitors? How do you attract and keep customers? Our advantage is we are already 9 years in the business and we were able to develop a system that makes our business run smoothly. We offer quality service, which is value for money. We keep our customers by maintaining good relationship, we keep our promises and deliver with pride.

Thank you for reading my blog and acknowledging the help you get. That motivates me to post more. Reply to your questions below:

1. We don’t have dealers in Cavite, all orders are shipped through courier. Yes, if you use Charlies soap, you wont need to use fabric conditioner.

2. Correct it is really tedious to mix clothes, so some instead of using yarn make use of needle and thread. It is cheaper and easier to do or use and not easily detached in the process.

3. Oh definitely yes, you already have a good margin with the price you have.  Price per pc is better than per kilo, and at 20 per piece. That is already more than the prevailing market price.

4. Some customers have this habit of blaming the laundry for lost clothes but then if you tell them to look closer inside their closets, they find the item and tell you they have found it already. If you really are following a system of itemized clothes, then nothing should go wrong. You can tell the customers in a very nice way that their clothes are complete before they’re packed.

Have you attended a seminar before putting up the business?  If you attended mine, you would have gotten the sample proposals I give out. Anyway to answer your questions:

1. Sample proposals normally start with - “We are pleased to submit to you for evaluation and consideration…” I leave to you the rest.

2. Yes, jerseys are done the same way as other laundry items, however you have to check on the print, some jerseys cannot be subject to dryers or you might damage its prints.

3. No need to lower your price, it can be retained or same as your market price, or shop price.

Hello, i chanced upon your blog when i researched about laundry business here in phil. and it is indeed a great opportunity for me to read on the tips provided here.

my bro planned to put-up this kinda of business here in our area, we are based in the province tho, but definitely not-in-middle-of-nowhere, lots of new business establishments had been croppin up and we noticed there is a certain demand for laundry cleaning and none is catering for that demand as of this moment.

thats why im very much interested about ur seminar. how i wish i can attend, but im based in mindanao, but as i read on there is a module for sale? how can i avail to it? thanks in advance.

As to your query, if your province is starting to boom as businesses start to crop left and right then maybe its time to put up your own. As I’ve said, if there is a need, then it should be addressed. You mentioned there’s a demand for dry cleaning, well then put up one and be the pioneer,

I am so decided and willing to open my laundry business but I was worried about the impending brownout schedules on the next few weeks. Is the operation of the laundry business can be affected?

Thank you for reading my blog, and I’m glad you were able to learn. As to your concern, brown outs are advised before hand, so there should be no worries about your laundry. However if you have a lot of load, you can also explain to the customer your situation and for sure they would understand. However if you really want to extend the service then purshase a generator to provide power to your laundry shop. That would make the customers happy but it would be heavy on the budget..
