I went out bought a DTV converter box, bright eyed and bushy tailed I laid my toddler down to sleep and tore through the box with excitement. I hooked it up like the directions said to and ............. NOTHING. I googled and googled and found out a little something..... these things do not work for just anyone.

I live in a rural area, I have trees, many trees that surround my house. I was flabergasted. More googling ensued. I found a site where it lists the channels I can get with an anntena - I get about 4. So why wouldn't the box work? The signals aren't strong enough. I can pull them in with an anntena and get pretty good picture but not with the box.

As I googled I found many a unhappy person just like me. The converter box is back in it's own box and ready to be returned - I obviously need to speak to someone who knows a thing or 2 - do I need a better anntenna (we are not putting up one on our roof!)? We, honestly, would be more than happy with just a few channels but we want them to stay and in June when the transition is over I don't want to be left in the dark. Anyone else with this problem?

Things we don't need but others might -- this huge oak glass top desk I am typing at? Dont need it. 2 filing cabinets? dont need it. what we do need to keep is baby boy clothes but other than that we have lots of clothes down stairs that are just sitting there in totes that need to go!

Another thought - I hate paying for satellite TV - all we watch is crap and I am really thinking of buying the converter boxes and getting 2 channels ..... wouldn't we be much happier? it would be about 50 bucks less a month and anywhere we can cut corners is good -- also, our cell phones.....we pay 5 bucks a phone for handset insurance - not sure that is worth it.....we have never broken or lost any of our phones but if we do I guess we will pay because I am going to cut it out.

What have you cut out? What I want to do is blog and be home more, what the reality is is quite different. I am working 5 days a week and have been working long days since H is off on school vacation and he is able to get BC early from daycare or stay home with him. It is back to school on Monday and back to the rat race against time during the day to drop BC off not too early and pick him up not too late and still work a full day. Arg. It absolutely blows being a full time working mother. Blows. I have to get started on looking for other options when this next baby is born - I would love to job share and work 2 days a week but what if that doesn't work out? Plan B's are always good to have.

The baby is good. Our 20 week u/s in Feb. 4th and am hoping all is well. Heartrate has been at 160 bpm so that is reassuring and so are these little pokes I feel now and again. No major movement yet but little nudges.

Am I just a bag full of complaints or what? At least I have a job. At least H is in school. I am grateful really I am.....just in a funk.

What is new with you?

I have joined the Grocery Game! Google it, to tired to link. My last shopping experience my bill went from 110 to 80 dollars! Using coupons and tracking sales takes about an hour a week but totally worth it!

I just made a huge payment on H's truck to get the process of paying it off quick, like real quick.. one less bill around here won't hurt anyone.

I am doing good, tired and showing. Yes, apparently with your 2nd you show earlier.....ha! I knew that it is just kind of surreal still.

After a long journey my best friend's husband is home from Iraq tonight. I am around 11-12 weeks pregnant with this 2nd baby and at first, admittedly, I was scared and feeling not so great. You see, I have a hard time dropping off BC at day care and he is 18 months old - I. HATE. IT. Getting pregnant and thinking about dropping off a baby and paying for 2 kids in daycare, I just can't do it. I am a social worker, and yes I am the director of my department but dont be fooled - we make nothing compared to my counterparts in the for profit world. Daycare for 2 kids would be about half of my paycheck a month! Now, I am not surprising anyone reading I am guessing.

The common goal is to stay home full time once H gets a job. H's degree will be in the mechanical engineering field and if all goes well and with the trend - I will be able to stay home full time. Worse case scenario I would have to stay working full time because he can find no job, but the most likely case scenario is, I will go down to 3 days a week - Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I will take 3 months off of work if I have to stay on.

So, to my point. Either way, I will stay home but I would like to work from home - now the age old question gets asked.....what to do? I have a 4 year bachelor of science degree - I would love to do contract social work out of my home for some agencies who need office work done or home studies or what have you, but how to chase after that dream? When to give up? Who to mail resumes to?

At the end of the day I don't care what I do -I will do anything to stay home while my babies are well.....babies. I can have my career later.....my children come first. Having said that, I do not want to offend any working moms - I commend you, it is just not for me.

So, my smart ladies.....what do you know about working from home?

I will be about 6w3d. With BC my first scan was 6w1d so I am feeling good about the timing. Just to give you an insight on how great my new doc is her office called and the appt person spoke with me. Now, this is just the appt person not my doc or her nurse - When my new doc went to the new big hospital to head up the OB/Infertility dept she really wasn't kidding when she was excited about patient centered care and being on the cutting edge of culture change in hospitals.

Appt Person (AP): Hi this is Amy from Big Fancy New Hospital and I spoke with Dr. Lovely and she said it is up to you when you want your first scan as long as it is after 6 weeks.

Me: oh, uh, great, uh.....(flabergasted with the option)

AP: She wants to wait until 6 weeks to be sure you will see something on the screen to reassure you.

Me: Oh, awesome. I will be 6 weeks on Friday give or take a day so.....

AP: Ok I have Thursday open with a couple of times and Tuesday is her surgery day.....

Me: I guess Thursday is ok but I was hoping for something earlier.....

AP: Monday late morning? Is that ok for you? 11 a.m ?

Me: That is great, i will take it, I just need some.....

AP: Reassurance? I understand, I have you down. See you then. We will send for you medical records when you sign the release. Have a good day and try and relax this weekend.

Me: Ok thanks!

how great is that? i am so grateful to have such a good doc and to be able to go to her.

I am rather sick in the morning with queaziness and in the evening but during the day I can work quite well without thinking about the pregnancy. I am just tired and am finding I am constipated and get full really really fast when eating.

Lots of little cramps and pulls --

thanks for checking in with me!

The constipation, the tugs in the abdomen, the cramps, the stretching, the weird feelings.....and this is only at 5 weeks folks, imagine what lies ahead for your reading pleasure, if everything goes ok. I still have not heard back from the doc's office, not my usual doc but the wonderful doc who left when I was about 14 weeks with BC. Her hospital is about 20 minutes from my work and about 45 minutes from my home but well worth it, she is wonderful and heads up the OB/Infertility Practice.

It must be something about being pregnant with a toddler around, you just kinda, forget about it sometimes because you are too busy picking noodles up off of the floor and fighting to get jammies on. Funny. I was completely obsessed with BC's pregnancy, now this time, not so much, I mean I am just in more of a "think I'll go lay down now" the minute BC's head hits his pillow. Ah, sleep.

Boring isn't it? This post? yeah I know.

I am back though because I miss being here and writing with you all. We attended the best wedding last weekend and had such a good time, I wore a V neck dress and black heels and we danced and drank the night away (BC was with my parents). I kept talking with my best friend and was trying to tell her that I feel like I forgot to do something that day or weekend - I just couldn't shake the feeling. We got home and returned to life as normal. Then it dawned on me. I was supposed to get my period on the 10th or 11th. It was now the 16th. I thought for sure the mere thought of pregnancy would send my period running but it did not. While grocery shopping I picked up some tests and came home. While H was making supper I went into the bathroom peed and before I could wash my hands, there it was. 2 lines. Pregnant.

I walked out of the bathroom with the test and waited for H to look at me. When he did I said, "I am pregnant" and he said "Get out, you are not" (while smiling)

I am pregnant. 5 weeks. Due around June 20th. BC will turn 2 at the beginning of June.

I have requested an early ultrasound because of what happened with my miscarriage.

I hope to hear I can go in around 7-8 weeks if not sooner.....I have been tired and a little naseous but nothing to serious yet, usually it takes around 6 weeks to really feel the sickness.

So that is the news and I will be around a lot more. I have been reading all of you but just haven't been writing and now I need to write.

I bought 8 loaves of yummy wheat bread for $10.80. Upon rearranging ALL my meat in the deep freezer I wrapped my loaved of bread with plastic grocery bags taping them shut and laying them on top of ALL the meat. Literally, ALL the meat is a huge amount. 32: 1.5 pounds of ground hamburger and about 6 different roasts, 15 cube steaks, and about 4 T Bones. There is some misc. meat in there like soup bones too. I feel wealthy having that much meat but knowing it provides for us for a long time is a great feeling.

So, those pesky plastic grocery bags CAN be used for another thing!

Saturday night and I am relaxing and doing nothing. It is the best. I had a great run this morning - just a little over 2 miles. It was cool so I had on my spandex and Arm.y shorts and a nice long sleeve shirt, running in the cooler weather instead of the humidity is definetely making running better. I was going to push to run a 10k at the end of the month but I am just not ready so I have become content running 2-3 miles every other day and I think that in itself has made me a better runner. Taking the heat off of myself.

Because I am not eligible for short term disability via my employer until my year anniversary I went and purchased an A.flac policy with a surgical benefit. My particular policy pays out 1100 on the first day of hospitalization and 500 for days 2-4. I would suggest doing this if you are planning another baby or your first in the next year. The policy is $48/mo.

My house is quiet and dark, my dog is sleeping is so is my son and it is only 830 p.m. I have projects to finish up around the house like painting our trim and wood graining our doors - but tonight - I am done for the day and hopping into bed.

I have enjoyed not being pregnant since BC was born. I lost close to 70 pounds and now run 2-3 miles every few days. I go out for drinks with friends and have a wild night every now and again. But, nothing feels as good as carrying a baby within you. BC was down for a nap today and before H left we had a nice goodbye kiss that turned into a little more than that. These kinds of incidences have happened alot over the holiday weekend. This afternoon after surfing the net a bit while BC was down for his afternoon nap I decided to check my ovulation dates just for fun since we are not not trying to have a baby.

Hopping on to the BabyCenter website made my heart jump as I had done this so many times before trying to get pregnancy with BC. I plugged in my dates for my last cycle and boom there it was. Most fertile time - August 28th - September 2nd, Due Date - May 24th.

I laughed out loud. It had taken 4 months to conceive BC (I know, 4 months you say? I am not complaining just stating a fact) and I fully expect that with the next baby but really I laughed out loud because of the sheer timing -

Anyways, how beautiful is Chas? That girl is pregnant with twins (32 weeks!) and looks phenomenal!

Also, I have this eye twitch that comes about every half an hour - I notice it happens more when I am busy and a bit stressed. My twitches about 3 or 4 times and I can feel my eyelid move a bit even though I have caught it in the mirror and cannot see it all. I think I need new reading glasses, I don't even wear my current ones. Would that cause an eye twitch?

Ok, off to sprawl out in bed -- and watch mindless TV. Enjoy your Labor Day!

The end of summer is here and I am letting probably one of the last warm breezy days drift through my house. The sun is hot on one side of the house and cool and breezy on the other. I sat in my lawn chair outside today to watch my son play in our grass with our dog. Life is so amazing. Learning to let go of life's nagging worries is something I have become rather good at. I am able to embrace the now and let go of guilty feelings and financial worries for afternoon like this. I still keep our finances in tact and get creative while H is in school - less than a year left and we will have 2 incomes. Everything is temporary.

H left to go to the big city to meet up with one of his Army buddies - it is a 2 hour drive and they will go out for dinner and drinks - our budget is tight but you can't put a monetary value on friendship and a friend who may or not be deployed soon and who lives in a different state. $ means nothing.

My son was an angel at Mass this morning and I was so proud. Other than "talking" to strangers (aocht! oooocht! eeeeecht!) he was great. All sounds he makes now a days end with cht! not sure why but it sure is cute. Even more cute : emptying my drawers and filing cabinets.....not so much.

Being off of birth control is great. I didn't realize how much of an impact it had on my body until now. I just feel better. I was only on it for 5 months but geez I feel much better. This whole "trying to have a baby but not really trying thing" is kind of nice. Just leaving it up to fate right now. Getting pregnant right now would not be ideal but sometimes you just have to let life take it's course. H is not done with school until July 2nd so a due date after that would be ideal but hey, can't plan everything.

For those of you playing the home game of MrsSSG you will note that having an attitude like this is VERY hard for me but something I have learned to accept. Welcome to MrsSSG ---- ZEN.

Now that H is gone for the day and night - I have so much to blog about and catch up on. We have a little cash stashed away and every Christmas I face the mission of getting meaningful gifts on a budget. Last year I shopped via Amazon for 12 people and spent 200 and received free shipping on most items. Each gift was not "cheap" but marked down as the weeks ticked by. I purchased my order just before the 2nd week of December to avoid the mark up that happens right before Christmas. This year I will be back at it again and want to get the most meaningful gifts I can - the great prices are just a bonus but definetely help when you are on a budget. I prefer to go the online way of shopping but there are lots of ways to help you if are the Black Friday shopper. Ad Scans is a great way to stay ahead of the game and peruse the BF ads.

Black Friday is madness (so I hear!) and I figure if you can stay ahead of the game the better.

The ads listed on the site are not up yet but soon people soon! The air is already cooler where I live and the crisp air makes me feel like Fall is right around the corner. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here before you know it.

Grab your laptop get cozy and start making your lists – nothing feels better than finding a deal!

Which do you prefer? Online no personal contact Christmas shopping or Madness in the stores wall to wall people Christmas shopping? I think this year I will do a little of both with Ad Scans I can stay ahead of the game.

I can't go this long without blogging, it is just ridiculous! How have you all been? I have been reading, trust me just haven't made the time to blog. We are painting the kitchen and living room now and painting the trim and then we will be done with the home projects for a long time! We have decided to not re fill my bc prescription, not that we are planning on getting pregnant this second we are just not refilling the script. We really don't plan on trying until around Thanksgiving or Christmas but for now I just want to give my body a chance to cycle on it's own for a bit.

BC has a sudden bout of diarrhea and H is a little sick too so I have been disenfecting and hoping I don't become ill too. I don't have time to be sick!

Painting this week and then back to normal!

Still running, going early in the morning, I have figured and painfully so that I have to go in the mornings, the rest of the day is just too unpredictable. Still pushing passed 3 miles and again, painfully so.

It got worse and I went to bed when BC did. 7pm. I woke at 11pm and was very confused as to why it would be dark in what I thought was the morning. Feeling worse I let some water slide down my throat that felt like a ton of bricks. Back to bed and waking up at 6 am I felt good. I am starting to feel a sore throat now again tonight but nothing like last night.

H is out of town working so I am doing day care and work alone, which is fine I am just tired. He is ready to start school soon, so he will be around a lot more.

I am now training for a 10k but finding it hard to run when H isn't here to watch BC - I would take him with me but we live on a trail like gravel road. I know I can do it, the 6.2 miles but I am just so scared of really doing it. Because what then? My competitive nature won't let me just run a couple miles when I run I will just have to keep pushing myself.....which is ok just daunting a bit. My own drive is daunting? Seriously.

Finally pics of our latest DIY. New tile in the kitchen and bathroom, the tile isn't grouted yet in these pics, and new hardwood in the living room.

Post your resume on the web.

I started looking for a job in our area around the beginning of April and finally nailed one down in the middle of June. For my field and with our economy I thought I was rather lucky to find one so "quick." I don't have a huge resume as I am still young but I think it is pretty good.....that is until I came across Joseph Baniak. Joe is a veteran of the USAF and is in the market for a job. What would be as exiciting as his past positions I am not sure but he is posting his resume on the web for all to see. Go check out his resume to see his extensive exprience in the Middle East and leadership.

I always tell my friends and my husband a great thing they have going for them is to have their Military service on their resumes because nothing and I mean nothing can spell out how well you do under pressure when you see someone who has military service on their resumes.

He, of course, the lovely one year old, my first born, also peed on the T.V. as well. How? The T.V. has now taken up residence on any kind of floor space that is free and that is where he was allowed to stand after his bath and took the liberty of peeing all over that and the new floor.

The tile in the kitchen and bathroom look fabulous. H is working on the hardwood in the living room right now. I have toilet paper in my room, the stereo system everywhere and an air compressor in my house that is VERY noisy.

Hopefully by late tonight it will be done and we can live as normal as we once did, which does include toddler pee on the floor of course.

This isn't exactly true, I am just having a super busy day with our personal stuff on top of work. I actually get off of work at 230-3pm but today I had errands to run after work and I got home at 5. Boo hoo I know. I know many working women that don't get out of work until then! I am lucky, I also don't have to be there until 830. Spoiled I know. Quit my crying. ;)

I am just adjusting to life as a working woman/mom. I know I can be efficient at both I am just ironing out the kinks right now.

Time to go crawl into bed for my nightly episodes of Friends on at 10.....!! Does anyone else watch mindless TV at night?

I was already mad I had to stop what I was doing much less to speak with a telemarketer. After I hung up it had taken me awhile to get back in the groove of what I was doing and then I came across this press release.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Major Telephone Companies Blown Out of Water by Innovative New Player

July 15, 2008 –

SaferCalls launches new service to get rid of any unwanted callers. With full control of who calls and when they call, you never have to receive harassing calls again. Bad dates, stalkers, and telemarketers can be turned into blocked numbers in seconds by simply adding them to the block call list. They will never get through to you. SaferCalls protects you from the worst possible threat with the control you need, when you need it. Tired of bad dates, unwanted callers, and telemarketers? We're offering a special for $9.99/month when you signup with coupon code: 760508 at http://www.safercalls.com (Offer Valid til Aug 1).
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Safer Calls does cost money and with the economy not quite what it should be this could be considered a frivolous expense but with the Do Not Call List failing miserably in my household, this service just may be my answer to unwanted frustrations. There are times when an unwanted call comes in and it is automated so you wait in silence until it begins, then you hang up. I always wait just in case it is a friend of mine on a cell phone and it doesn't connect right away. 9 times out of 10 I am always connected to a telemarketer.

The SaferCalls website has a great FAQ section to go and figure out what this new service is all about. If you have the extra cash and have the added frustration I would say this may be a go for you!

We had a great time at the park this afternoon and even more of a great time lounging around the house and discussing major plans for our latest DIY project.

While H was overseas I was able to put away a substantial amount of money into savings and I was thrilled when on Thursday he finally decided to spend a little of it. Off to the store he went and came back with new large tiles for the kitchen and bathroom and natural hickory hardwood for our living room. I am so excited.

H will be doing the tiling this weekend so BC and I are headed to my folks' for the weekend while he slaves away here. Things are going to look so great. Right now we have low end laminate flooring in the kitchen and bathroom and low end carpet in the living room. I did not pick these choices even though our house was new construction it was all done by the time we came across it. We live in a fantastic wooded area close to many lakes so making these changes really make our home more like home because we have worked hard to make it better.

H also installed 2 ceiling fans, one in our room and one in BC's room. It just feels so much better in the house with all three fans running. We don't have AC but the breeze up here and the fans keep the house very cool.

BC seems to be doing much better since the Tantrum from Hell. He is still quite bucky when it comes to getting dressed and getting his diaper changed. He is just so busy he just. wont . sit. still. !! Arg!

Back to work tomorrow, I have another post entirely about how much I love my job.

We got lost and were miles away from food, real food, not chee.rios. BC got very upset. He stiffened up and cried and cried and cried and threw his arms out for me as I turned around to comfort him from the front seat. (The dog was on the back seat otherwise I would have jumped back there) He cried and was so upset he started to grunt and hold his breath because he would stiffen up like he didn't want to be in the car seat anymore. God, he was so upset. I noticed he was turning blue around the mouth.....he was just throwing the mother of all tantrums. And he was hungry so nothing comforted him. H and I realized very quickly this was no regular tantrum and he swooped over to the side of the road and I flung BC out of his seat and he went straight into H's arms. Instantly he settled down and looked much better.

It was not hot in the truck. He was overtired. But WTF? Good God any advice is welcome.

He cries when I leave him at day care, the lady who cares for him says he stops when I leave and has a great time.

Please tell me this is a phase. Please!

Many times it is nothing too big and other times it can be a bit controversial and this is one of those times. We all know the great debate about stem cell research is heavily debated and split among Americans and often times tied into the pro life - pro choice debate.

What I am about to blog about has nothing to do with either pro life or pro choice. Like many hot topics often times they become, well, hotter. I have a feeling this subject might just send the debate over the edge.

CNNMoney reports that stem cells can be collected in women's menstrual blood.

Now, take a breath and read the press release.

Taking Control: Future Therapies for a Host of Serious Diseases May Be Found in Women's Menstrual Blood

July 07, 2008: 01:28 PM EST OLDSMAR, Fla., July 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/

-- With today’s hectic lifestyle, where most women are juggling careers, family, relationships, and a host of activities, the idea of possibly facing a serious illness in the future is not something that readily comes to mind -- especially when a woman is in the prime of her life. But what most women don’t know, is that the key to treating a number of possibly life-threatening diseases that she, a parent, a sibling or even her children may face in later years, such as osteoporosis, heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, may be found within her own body -- in vital stem cells, which can now be harvested from her own menstrual blood. Now, thanks to the revolutionary research and technology of C’elle, a service dedicated to providing women with a safe and easy method of collecting and preserving stem cells found in her menstrual fluid each month, even the busiest woman can take control of her future, right in the privacy of her own home. With C’elle’s non-invasive collection process, menstrual cells are processed and cryo-preserved (stored at a very low temperature) for potential cellular therapies that may be used in the future. These self-renewing cells one day may even be used for sports medicine or cosmeceutical treatments, such as anti-aging therapies. "C’elle enables and empowers a woman to take control of her future health, and possibly of those genetically closest to her, in a fast, painless and stress free way," said Michelle Kay, Marketing and Sales Manager for C’elle. "We live in exciting times, as science and technology are discovering how extremely valuable menstrual blood stem cells really are, and the enormous treatment potential they represent for future therapies. C’elle’s ongoing research is supporting these promising findings."

For more information about C’elle, please call 1-877-892-3553 or visit http://www.celle.com/.

What do you think? I think it is very interesting and when they talk about those genetically close to you it does pull at your heart strings a bit. Science has come so far and to me it is just amazing how far we have come and where we are going. Being a liberal person my self this idea doesn't bother me. I actually think it is very interesting and I am eager to do a little more research.

Leave a comment if you like, please use your discretion and be appropriate.

I start work tomorrow and BC will go to day care. H is home tomorrow so he will go and get BC around 2ish, I figure a shorter day than usual is good for his first day.

We have some big home improvement projects coming up so I am eager to post about those.

As for now I am going to lay down in front of a fan and watch some good t.v.
