A lot of web design and development relies on you being able to capture images. This may be a logo for a customer or a picture of a product for your own use.

In the course we provide different solutions for this however there is a great free product called Jing.

Jing is a product that can capture either a still image of anything on your screen or a recording of up to 5 minutes of your screen. Wouldn’t it be handy to show your clients how to do something, rather than just trying to explain the steps. Once you start using screen capture you wonder what you did without it. It is great for taking a picture of a website, Google earth images, or application instructions.

Jing is made by Techsmith who makes the best and most widely used professional screen capture applications. This free version is easier to use and has most of the features that you would need as a teacher. Jing is also Mac or Windows compatible.

Photoshop inlay or collage

There are some great effects you can achieve using photoshop and one I really like is to make an inlay over a photo tohighlight certain parts, for example:

Special effects using Photoshop warp.

Photoshop CS2 adds a new transformation type to the Edit > Transform menu called Warp.

With the new Warp command you can transform layers into a variety of predefined shapes, or use the custom option to push and pull your image around according to an invisible grid.

All this works right in the document window, so you don’t need to learn a new dialog box like you do for the Liquefy command. The Warp options are similar to those found in the type tool — arc, arch, bulge, shell, flag, fish, wave, rise, fisheye, inflate, squeeze, and twist.

In Adobe’s example, you can see how a layer was warped to fit a can. Layer masks and the multiply blend mode make the transformation appear even more seamless.Here is one I did using warp.

Using Photoshop in Camtasia for online videos.

With the proliferation of web videos, it would appear that many have no shame producing and distributing crappy videos. While if this is a video of your dog Charlie catching a frisbee while jumping off the dock at the lake, that is one thing.
