Compact Shelving Under Repair Week of November 16-20

From Monday, November 16 through Friday, November 20, the compact shelving in the basement is scheduled to be repaired. As a result, access to government document and basement periodical collections may be unavailable during this time. If materials are needed from these collections, please visit the Circulation Desk for assistance.

Coming up Wednesday, November 18, 2009: Searching for Images. Find out about resources you can use at MSU Libraries to find images. Whether you are looking for artistic renderings, photographs, or graphics, there are a number of tools and a variety of strategies you can employ to find them. In this workshop we will explore and experiment with image databases like Artstor, Camio, and MSU Digital Collections, as well as take a look back at some web searching strategies in Google and Flickr. Taught by Tim Donahue.

Coming up on Wednesday, November 4, 2009: Discover Books at Renne Library. MSU Libraries contain more than 700,000 books on subjects spanning the entire universe of knowledge. This workshop will include an overview of electronic resources used to find books and a physical tour of our library stacks. Learn how to identify a specific subject to browse and increase your chances at serendipitous discovery. We will dig into the MSU Library catalog, floor maps, Library of Congress classification outline, Word Catalog, and then continue on foot to see for ourselves how knowledge is organized in college and research libraries. As a result of this upgrade, it is possible that the JournaList may be unavailable for this period of time.
