Health Focus

  Doctors, medical professionals and researchers from the Medical University of South Carolina will be featured weekly in a series of radio interviews on South Carolina Public Radio called Health Focus.  

Award winning public broadcaster Bobbi Conner will host this series of health and medical features, covering a wide array of topics.   

Bobbi Conner has been producing and hosting public radio programs for over 30 years.  She was the longtime host of the national Parents Journal public radio program. Conner has lived in the Charleston area for over twenty years.  The MUSC professionals interviewed in this radio series are top experts and researchers in their field. Listeners will hear about the latest medical advances and new treatments on a broad range of topics; from diabetes, to childhood cancer treatments; from Autism research; to lifestyle changes to promote a healthy heart.   The Health Focus features air weekdays throughout the day.

  This week Bobbi Conner talks with Dr. Harris Slone about the benefits of sports and physical activity for older adults, with tips included to help prevent injury. Dr. Slone is an Assistant Professor in the College of Medicine and a Sports Medicine Physician at MUSC.

  This week Bobbi Conner talks with Dr. Sarah Taylor about efforts underway to improve respiratory care for premature infants. Dr. Taylor is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology at MUSC Children’s Hospital.

  This week Bobbi Conner talks with Dr. Elizabeth Wallis about teen depression and the need for early diagnosis and effective treatment. Dr. Wallis is the Assistant Director of the Pediatric Primary Care Clinic at MUSC Children’s Hospital.

  This week Bobbi Conner talks with Dr. Bernadette Marriott about a dietary research study underway to determine if Omega-3 Fatty Acids can reduce self-harm behaviors, and risk of suicide in adults. Dr. Marriott is a Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Psychiatry and she is the lead principal investigator for the BRAVO research study at MUSC.

  This week Bobbi Conner talks with Dr. Michael Yost about research underway in the MUSC Regenerative Medicine Laboratory concerning robotic 3D printing of living tissue. Dr. Yost is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of Research for General Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at MUSC.
